Reverse speed produced blank footage

Using PrPro CS5 with 2 clips overlaying each other.  I have a sequence with settings 720X480 1.21 widescreen 29.97 FPS
I have a shot of a television shot at 1280X720 and I'm overlaying the screen with another piece of footage that is 720X480 1.0 stretched to wide screen to fit.  I am trying to demonstrate that the footage I have on the screen can be played "backwards" but when I apply this effect (right click on footage, speed/duration, check the "reverse speed" box), the footage play choppy.  It blacks out for over half the duration of the clip.  Any help?

  • Premiere Pro CC Nested Sequence Reverse Speed Makes Black Footage

So... I have had this problem on three separate projects over the last few months.
2 of the projects were using video files and 1 of the projects used an image sequence. So type of footage does not appear to be an issue.
The issue is the same regardless. The issue below is happening using a DSLR 1080p30 sequence. I have tested this in other sequences such as AVCHD 1080p30 and HDV 1080P30. The issue does not occur on other 1080p30 sequences. It seems to be an issue with the DSLR sequence only.
Create a sequence-> place footage or images in that sequence -> make any needed edits, effects, etc. -> Place the first sequence into a new sequence (this sequence plays back fine) ->copy that sequence or nest the sequence from the project files list a second time -> right click->select "Speed/Duration"-> Click "Reverse Speed"-> Click ok.
This process should give you one nested sequence that plays forwards and one that plays backwards.
The issue that has happened repeatedly over the last few months is that the reversed sequence turns to black footage. If I expand the track the footage still shows up as a thumbnail. Also, the sequence maintains its time. The entire sequence turns black from start to finish.
This is possibly similar to the previous fixed multicam nested sequence issue but is new as of CC 14.2.
Any suggestions outside of not using that sequence type would be appreciated. Also, hopefully Adobe sees this and can verify if there is in fact an update issue that has caused this specific issue.

Rolling back to driver 314.22 did seem to work at first but got the same issue.
Adding footage to the timeline =  working,
Add adjustment layer = stil working
add lumetri effect with a LUT = the Lut isn't applied and the image freezes
Removing the adjustment layer = pause frames are black

  • Time Reversed Layers Have Blank Frames in CC

Hey guys.  So in my project file I have a lot of looping footage, which I achieved by using time reversed layers.  I started the project file in a trial version of CS5.5 last week, but upgraded to Creative Cloud yesterday.  Since moving to CC I noticed that all my time reversed layers have missing frames at the beginning of the layer, causing a blinking effect on my footage.  In the final comps those layers will flicker out, showing the images and backgrounds beneath them both within AE and in the final comps when I render them to an .mov.  I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this bug and knows of a way to fix it.  I've nudged my layers around a bit, but regardless of when the layer starts or from which point it begins sampling my footage, the first frame of the time reversed layers are blank.
Here's some information that might be helpful:
The compositions are 1280x720, square pixel aspect ratio. Starting timecode of 0:00:00:00 on all comps. The footage type is h.264 with a framerate of 23.976, the same framerate as the comps. My footage interpretation is premultiplied for Alpha, set to use the framerate from file, starting timecode of 0:00:00:00, and with seperate fields off and remove pulldown off.
The specific version of After Effects CC is 12.0.0.404. My computer information is Mac OSX version 10.8.3. 3.,4 GHz Intel Core i7. 16 GB RAM, 1600 MHz DDR3.
Thanks in adcvance guys.  I could really use some insight in answering my question.

Yeah.  We're hoping to move everything to a better video format once we get a better network that can handle that quickly, so for now we're using h.264.  In case you're wondering, the same problem happens with other video formats too.  Creating a new composition and time reversing it gives me the same problem.  Here's a screenshot like you asked for:
My timeline's zoomed in as far as it goes.  Even though my cursor's at the intersection of the two layers, the time reversed layer, which is a pair of eyes above the mouth, shows up blank and there's no eyes.  Any thoughts?

  • 'Reverse Speed' causes crash

    Hello,
I have a project which consists entirely of AVCHD footage from a Canon HFS10.  The footage is 1080i30 (60i) and I have broken it into several sequences so I can put them together in a 'master' sequence in the order I choose.  I wanted to reverse one of the sequences, so I placed the sequence into my master sequence, right-clicked on it, clicked on Speed/Duration, selected the 'Reverse Speed' checkbox, and clicked 'OK.'  Every time, without fail, after 20-40 seconds, Premiere CS4 (4.2.1) stops responding and then crashes.  Sometimes, I'll see a window pop up that says something about rendering the file.  At least one of the times, I saw in the 'Applications' tab of Task Manager a task titled 'Droverlord' which also has a Status of 'Not Responding.'  I have tried this with various sequences made from the original AVCHD footage with the same result.  I rebooted the machine, and I get the same result as well.  Has anybody reading this experienced this problem and if so, any advice on how I can successfully reverse a sequence?
Edit:  I duplicated the sub-sequence that I was unable to reverse within my 'master' sequence.  I then opened the duplicate sub-sequence and reversed the speed of the footage itself, and then was able to place that new sub-sequence into the 'master' sequence.  So, it appears that it has more to do with my attempting to reverse a sub-sequence placed into another sequence, rather than simply 'Reverse Speed' not working at all in my project.
    Thanks,
    Matt

Thanks for the follow up on your issue. Did the issue resolve itself or did you do some strategic troubleshooting to correct the issue?
I ask since this one incident may be symptomatic of program problems that are currently being masked and that need to be addressed. However, as they say, do not mess with a good thing if everything is working now.

  • Speeding up the footage more than 1000% but with transitions

    Hey there,
I am trying to speed up the footage of a view out of an airplane window in Premiere Pro CC. I basically want to have a view over the whole landscape, let's say in a height of 300m, and then speed this view gradually up until the airplane lands, and all this within around 3-5 seconds seconds.
The first problem I have is that I seem to not be able to speed my footage up to more than 1000%. If I wanted to have a time lapse between being up in the air and landing on the runway within like 5 seconds that is definitely not enough.
The second problem is that I don't want to start the timelapse sudden, but have a transition when changing the speed. Normally, I do that with these blue little handles to get a S-curve for my speed of a certain clip. When I tried googling it considering a higher speed than 1000% someone only suggested to export the speeded clip, import it again and then speed it up again. But then there is no gradually speed up possible, it only works for the same speed over the whole clip
Summarizing these problems, I can't find a way to speed my footage up to more than 1000% without loosing the effect of a gradually S-speed-curve.
Does anyone have an advice on how to solve this problem, especially focussing on my specific clip?
Thank you and sorry for my english.
    Peter

You should not have to render your captured material. If the capture settings match the sequence settings (conform this by checking item properties for both) then no rendering is necessary except for effects and filters.
Offline editing (editing in low res and capturing in full res) is not a function available in FCE.

  • Officejet 6600 produces blank pdf scans

I have a officejet 6600 all in one printer.I have had no troubles until today.I regularly use the device to scan and produce a pdf of my scan. Today the pdf files of the scan are showing only blank pages even though the image on my pc in the HP scan tool shows the correct image of the scan. So, the PDF file generation is producing blank files. All help is appreciated.

  • Problematic reverse speed in Audio Subclips

I am trying to create some room tone loops.
I take a portion of an audio subclip into the timeline and 100% speed-reverse it. The resulting clip does not have the same In and Out points that I have given to the subclip but (arbitrarily?) takes a different In and Out point from the original Master Clip and renders it in reverse. (The duration remains the same).
This does not happen if I use a portion of an Audio Master Clip in the first place, instead of using a portion of an Audio subclip.
Is this a conflict that occurs in FCP 5.0.4? Is it some kind of system or user setting?
Of course I could remove the Audio Subclip limits and work with Master Clips, but I am at the end of a project that has been fully logged in subclips and multiclips...
Any answer is quite valuable, since I am editing twenty-three hours of footage with numerous changes in room tones and speech...
Dual 2 GHz Power PC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   FCP 5.0.4, 2.5GB DDR SD RAM, 560GB Hardisk space

    Thanks, Patrick!
That's a way to work around it!
Yet, I am trying to figure out a problem-free way of logging that does not have to go through such changes until I finish a large project. I decide about the workflow in the beginning, but I have to change it when it comes to audio subclips and multiclip marking, and this full-of-surprises process is time-consuming and stressful.
Do you know if this is the usual case with FCP's audio subclips, even with the latest upgrade? Or is it just a problem in my system, which I should try to fix?

  • Linux toPostScript produces blank form

Hi there. I've dredged through the Internet looking for a solution, but haven't found any, so this is my last resort
I have a PDF form that has been reader extended and form data is imported into the using the Java libraries. When I generate a postscript file on Windows and send it to Adobe Distiller, everything is fine. However, if I generate a postscript file on our Linux server using the command line -toPostScript with no options, the PDF form is generated, but the fields are blank
I have another PDF form that I created using the same process and this generates fine... all data in the form is populated and the PDF is not editable, as I want it. But it's very strange that this doesn't happen for another form.
Note that the Linux server is running in a semi-headless state. I'm emulating the X server using Xvfb server, which works very well, and I've tried this using Adobe Reader 8.1.4 as well as 9.1 and they both produce the same result. Also, if I import the XML file using Adobe on Windows, send the file to the Linux server to produce the postscript file, then everything is fine.
Would you know what is causing the problem, if there's any security feature in the PDF that I should be enabling/disabling, or how to determine the differences with the forms? Is there a way to compare the different properties of the PDF files to isolate the differences?
Unfortunately, due to security reasons, I cannot provide a copy of the PDF files.
    I appreciate any answer given
    Thanks

    Hi Xenno,
Please add few flags to your command line when using the -toPostScript option.
    Try the following command:
acroread -toPostScript -markupsOn -optimizeForSpeed -saveVM a.pdf
Let us know if this helps.
Also try and export the data of the form that you are trying to print and let us know if you are able to export the data to an xml file.
For exporting data, go to Document->Forms->Export data.
Also please let us know of the workflow as to how you import data from the Java libraries.
In your first post you had written :
“Also, if I import the XML file using Adobe on Windows, send the file to the Linux server to produce the postscript file, then everything is fine.”
Does it mean that only when you import the data using the Java Libraries that the problem surfaces?

  • Is this because I have the wrong speed of blank DVD disks?

    Hi,
I'm using Toast 6.1.1 to try to write to a 8X 8.5GB DVD+R Dual Layer blank disk on an LG GSA-5120D Super Multi DVD Rewriter which is external and connected via Firewire. Writing to all other disks (DVD and CD) has been fine but not the previously mentioned DL disk. I get this from Toast before it starts to write at all I think:
    The drive reported an error:
    Sense Key = MEDIUM ERROR
    Sense Code = 0x0C
    WRITE ERROR
In the drive's manual it says this for Read/Write speed:
    Write: DVD+R Double layer: 2.4X
    Read: DVD+R Double layer: 8X
Again the disks I'm attempting to use are: 8X 8.5GB DVD+R Dual Layer so that looks OK (possibly?) but Toast only gives the speed 4X for this disk.
I think my trouble might be Firmware but just want to eliminate this possible problem. The fact that the manual says 8X for the read speed makes the disks I've bought OK? even though it says 2.4X for write?
    TIA,
    John.

    Thanks for the reply.
Oh that's fine -- so long as they'll work at some speed. I was starting to think that because I had bought 8X speed disks and in the drive's manual it says 2.4X speed for writing to DL disks they weren't going to be compatible. Funny how Toast only gives 4X as the speed for the disk (seeing as 2.4X is the fastest the drive will do for writing to DL disks). I guess it is a firmware problem I'm having then.
    Thanks.

  • Odd speed of captured footage

I'm writing to find out if you know what to do if, when capturing footage from tapes from the Panasonic AG DVX 100B into Final Cut, the video part is sped up and the audio stays normal, leaving a long black section (with audio, but no video, because the video was so fast it is over) at the end of the clip. I've tried capturing from both my camera and a deck, and for the past of week I've been getting the same frustrating result. It must be a setting somewhere, but I can't seem to figure it out. Have you ever experienced this?
    Warm regards,
    Jess

What is the speed change factor?
If you apply a speed change to it, can you get it look normal?
Open the clip and tell us what the properties are.

  • Email prints produce blank pages, both from Mail and from other apps

I've just discovered that, when printing an email from the Mail app, the printer produces a blank page. So far, I've tried the following to no avail:
    Trying different print settings
Saving the mail as a PDF, then printing the PDF
Printing the email from my Google account in Safari
Copying the email text into a TextEdit document and printing the document
All produce a blank page, except the Google prints from Safari, which prints the Google logo and the page footers, but omits all the email text. In the end, I resorted to taking a screenshot of the email and printing the image file.
Any similar experiences and possible solutions?
Interestingly, I've recently had problems copying and pasting text from emails, too. Wonder if this is related?
    Thanks in advance.
