Reverse Telecine Nightmare - 16mm - Please help...

I´m working for the first time in Brazilian Cinema as a assistent editor and i`m having a serious problem with Cinema Tools Reverse Telecine.
I´ve read the manual but I can´t get any solution.
We shoot the movie in 16mm with an Aaton minima camera.
The telecine was made to dv tapes.
I´ve created a database in Cinema tools with the flex files, exported a xml to final cut and batch captured.
My problem is:
When I use the Cinema tools reverse telecine and open my clip in Final Cut (6.0.3), it still contain fields and I can´t read the letters of the window burn
The field pattern is A2 B2 C1 D1 D3 -- Field 2 only as we can read in the manual.
I´m reversing for 23.98 fps
I´ve tried with the "Standard upper/lower" checked and unchecked with no positive results... When I open in the Final Cut, in a 23.98 project, and see the clip
frame by frame, I can´t read the letters and there is fields... I´ve tried the other options too... But the pull down is always there
In page 132 of Cinema tools manual,you can read in the "Check telecine results" session ---> "each letter should be clearly legible..."
That´s my nightmare... What should I do? Can anyone give me a solution for this problem??

Ugh - single field telecine.
I've never had to put single field video through Cinema Tools so I shouldn't be commenting - but I happen to know that another guy with a -similar- but different problem with single field telecine video in CT set his field dominance to F1-F2, and got usable video. Thought I'd mention it.

Single field telecine isn't that complicated, it should be easy for CT to just remove the extra field from the sequence. Make sure you're starting on an A frame (or field, in your case, I suppose.)
Again, never done single field video in CT, so feel free to ignore me completely.

WRT610N Nightmare, someone please help

Hi I bought the wrt610N three months ago and now am just getting it set up. I am having tons of trouble and have already spent 6 hours with techinical support today. They are no help. I cannot log onto the router wirelessly unless I use the wireless connectivity utility provided with the router. I cannot connect to the router using the windows based connection utility. I have friends that frequently come to my house and they cannot log on the router. My wife's laptop cannot get on the internet through the router either. The only way it works is to have them install the software that came with the router. It is too late to return this (Best Buy only accepts returns after 30 days), anyone have a similar issue and have some ideas?

If you have Installed the Linksys LELA software on your computer, You can Uninstall that software from "Add Remove Programs" and remove that software from your computer. Once you uninstall it you will be able to connect to your wireless network using Windows Base utility. Here are some settings which you can change on your router. After this all your computer will be able to go online wirelessly..
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop).In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
Click on the Wireless tab
-Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...This Settings are for 2.4Ghz
-Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
- Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bits.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

They will only be where you put them If you are doing the very basics, then they will be on your computer and they will be in your backup copy of your computer.
The itunes store is not global at all, never has been. You cannot redownload your content from another country. You can only use the countrys itunes store for the country that you are physically located.

I reversed a section of audio, and now the whole project and all of my backups are ruined. Please help

Okay, so basically I was really happy with the track, it has chopped up vocals all from the same vocal track.
I was just experimenting and reversed a section of audio, but didn't save the changes because i didn't want to save this reverse.
however now i've just opened my project and all of the vocals are messed up and not how they were before - and all of my backups are the same. can someone please help me , i feel like crying . I have no idea what has happened - and is there any way i can get it back to how it was before?

How are they not as before?
I'm not an expert, but as far as I know, when you change an audio clip in Logic you really change the audio file, meaning everywhere else where you have used the same file it will be changed the same way. I'd go for the Audio file list in the Browser and try to find the changed audio file and change it back. Hope it helps!

MPEG-4 should not be used in FCP unless it is converted first or optimized in the application.
Trash your preferences. Trash your project render files. Switch off background rendering. Do not re-render. Export your projects.
Ignore the last frame and first frame indicators.

Iphone 3gs screen sensitivity REVERSED........please help ???

I have 3gs, and for the past few weeks having some wierd issues. hope i can explain it well.
I dunno what happened but my screen sensitivity has reversed, i mean to say generally when we make calls and if the phone is next to your ear the screen turns black and unresponsive to the touch of your ear and once you finish the call and remove the phone from your ear the screen activates to end the call.
in my case this screen sensitivity have reversed, the moment i take my phone next to my ear, the screen activates and thus it becomes responsive to the touch of my ear and as a result automatically the call sometimes go to speakerphone or sometimes go on hold and what not, and as soon as i remove the phone from my ear, the screen blacks out and not showing the screen end call button. i have to end the call through the top button. after a few seconds the screen appears and acts normal for applications and internet stuff. again if i make a call it starts acting in the same reversed way..............
its very very annoying and i need some expert advice. my phone is in its original condition, never unlocked, never jailbroken, with 3.1..........please please help me........hope u all understood what i was trying to say.........

And I thought I was the only one having this strange problem. For me too the automatic screen saving is reversed! Everytime I have a call the screen is on and active right next to my ear. When I want to end a call I have to place my finger on the sensor to activate the screen as it goes black otherwise.
Same while playing the voicemail: it goes black shortly after I start the recording and only would show up with my finger placed on the sensor...
No case. Reset and recovery done. No change.
So I guess we have a hardware problem.
I will go to my local dealer next monday to let them have a look!

ITunes is a nightmare... PLEASE HELP!!!

Ever since I downloaded the 5.0.1.4. version my nightmare started. When I tried to open iTunes I got a message that read:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Errors report contains the following:
Error signature
AppName: itunes.exe
AppVer: 5.0.1.4.
ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0.
Offset: 10001040
After several times, finally I was able to uninstalled the iTunes and the Quicktime. Then I tried to use the CD and install an older version. After installation I encountered the following message:
Quicktime failed to initialize Error -#2095
Now, I cannot use itunes nor download more music into my iPod.

I uninstalled QT and iTunes but I cannot delete the iPod and itunes folders...
This is the message that I get when I try to delete the iPod folder:
"Error Deleting File or Folder.
Cannot delete iPodService.exe. It is being used by another person or program.
Close any programs that may be using the file and try again".
This when I try to delete the iTunes folder:
"Error Deleting File or Folder.
Cannot delete iTunesHelper.exe.
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use".

ODI error when trying ro reverse engineer-- Please help

Hi all,
I am receiving the error below "ImportError: no module named java" when I am attempting reverse engineer from Essbase into the models tab in the ODI Designer.
I am using ODI version 10.1.3.5
I have all jar files related to Essbase in drivers folder. And all KMs related to Essbase in impexp folder. I have created CLASSPATH system variable with "D:\OraHome_ODI\oracledi\drivers". Should i need to add this path in PATH system variable?
What should i do to get this problem solved. Please help.

MOS Note 424232.1 says
Such messages are probably due to either a stale Jython cache (.../scripting/cachedir folder) and / or insufficient access privileges attributed to the Unix user account which has launched either the ODI Agent or Designer GUI and is executing a Jython script and writing to the Jython cache (default value being .../lib/scripting/cachedir/packages folder).
Alternative workarounds:
1. Stop all ODI processes and remove the cachedir folder, the restart ODI and retest the process.
2. Use a different "python.cachedir" information, on which the User has write privileges. This Java property may be set into the Jython Registry and specifies the directory used internally by Jython for cached information about Java packages in ".jar" files. If the directory is relative, it is interpreted relative to the Jython root. For complete information, refer to Jython documentation, at:
http://www.jython.org/Project/userguide.html#the-jython-registry
3. Try running Jython once as "root" in order to create the Jython cache directories or take appropriate administrative actions (for example, chmod 777....) to allow the user account to access these files.

Language of some of my icons has changed and I can't seem to reverse it, please help!

A friend of mine was messing around with my laptop and managed to change the language to what I believe to be Russian. I changed the language under the 'International' tab back to English, but for some reason some of my icons (e.g. system preferences, software update and language menu) are still written in whatever language this is. I've fiddled about with the settings in the 'International' tab for hours but with no success and I can't find a solution anywhere. Please help!

Did you do logout/login after moving English to the top of the list?
Also you could try going to system prefs/international/language and using the Edit button to uncheck the box for Russian.

Transcode/Flicker Nightmares - Please help!

Dear all,
I've used Encore 2.0 to build a DVD entirely of menus and slideshows. The slideshows are based on different image sources - some are high resolution digi camera images, some are low-res digi camera images, some are scans of photos (from a desktop scanner) and some come from the photolab (scanned from 35mm film). All JPEG. The menus and remaining slides were made in photoshop with the PAL template.
Some of the pictures in the slideshows and some of the slides made with photoshop (PAL template) kind of flicker when played on my DVD player! It makes it quite difficult to watch it makes you feel sick. Some of the pictures display perfectly (the high res digi camera pictures to be specific)
At the moment, all source is set to transcode to PAL 4MB VBR 2 Pass and it takes up only 1.2Gb of the disk
My question is - are my transcode settings the cause of the flicker? If so what should I set them too and if not not what else can I do to get rid of it!

Do you have the images as Camera Raw files?
If so, I would bring these into Photoshop, and save the images at 72 DPI, 720x576 document (from the template), and save as an uncompressed TIFF file.
Bring these into Premiere Pro, and set up your slideshow as you want it to look.
Export from Premiere as a CBR 3Mb/sec MPEG-2 file (This will look just fine, trust me on this).
Import this into Encore and off you go.

Reverse telecine and final cut

we shot a short with dvx 100a. we shot on 24p (NORMAL). I am trying to create a 23.98 workflow for the video. all the footage was captured in DV NTSC, and used cinema tools to Reverse Telecine. here come the issues: how do I know which "capture mode" the DVX uses? also which "Style." I tried different settings, and the strange part is that some settings work for some clips while others work for other clips, even though all clips were captured the same way. when i say worked, i mean some showed obvious "flicker" or "ghosting" and some were fantastic. all this on a 23.98 timeline in FCP.

yep, it's not in the manual and i found this one day long ago when i got my dvx just after they were first released: open the lcd and on the bottom towards the lens there is the counter button. with the camera in vtr mode and playing the tape, toggle that counter button and you'll get a wealth of info including what framerate the video was shot with.
as for the reverse telecine, how can one determine
what "capture mode" was used? apple suggests a burned
tc, but i do not have that off the dvx.
dude, as far as a reverse telecine, that is determined by which mode was used to photograph with the camera. with fcp 4 you only use cinema tools for 24p standard video but i understand with the latest version of cinema tools you can use for 24P and 24PA, but i've not tried this.

Adding flags to a Panasonic 1200 deck for reverse telecine in post?

I am doing a telecine of some 16mm film. We are dumping it as 720p DVCPRO HD with a rented Panasonic 1200 deck. I did this last time and everything looks great except I had major issues turning my 59.94 source material to 23.98 material [reverse telecine] in post. Is there a settingt on the 1200 deck to tell it to flag the frames as they do with the varicam so I can do a really easy frame excraction within Final Cut Pro or Cinema Tools? Hit me back with any info if you got it ... thanks!!!

This confirmed what I thought. You cannot Reverse Telecine something at 59.94. Cinema Tools is designed for footage telecined at 29.97...NTSC. It doesn't recognize 59.94 as NTSC because that is an HD frame rate, not an SD one. Cinema Tools was designed for SD.
For 59.94 footage, what I have beed doing is either just dropping it into a 23.98 timeline and rendering, or using the Nattress Film Converter to get it from 59.94 to 23.98. Both look great...but require timeline rendering.
So what you CAN do is drop all this footage into a 23.98 timeline, render or apply the filter...render and export as a self contained QT Movie. But then you lose valuable TC. Best bet would be to drop it into the timeline and just render.
