Reversed channels

Every once in a while when creating Apple lossless files from one of my own CDs, the channels get reversed, right to left and left to right. It seems random, which is what is bugging me most. Has anyone experienced this or do they have a solution?

thanks for the link...ill give a look through
anyone else got some input...the likely cause maybe?
update:  seems that nvidia utility is for 4 and 5.1 speaker setups.  Right now i am just runing two speakers and have mixed up audio channels.
i am going to fool around with the software anyway however to see if it helps.

  • L/R channels reversed on headpho

    Hey all,
    I'm a bit of a newb here, so bear with me. I'm having a problem that's driving me nuts. I have a Audigy 2 ZS Platinum. When I plug my pair of Sennheiser HD 580 headphones into the headphone jack on the front panel, the left and right channels seem to be reversed. It gets bizarre when I plug in a couple of cheap Sony headphones... left and right are no longer reversed. I have trouble believing that a pair of good quality Senns would have wires reversed. Is it possible? Any ideas?
    Thanks for the help!

    alexs3d2 wrote:Well, from your sayings, it appears the Sen's use reversed channels. There sin't another explanation.
    So it would seem. But is this normal? I mean, are these headphones faulty or are the channels meant to be reversed?

  • Looking for suggestions for specialized tone generator

    An office colleague has two tuning forks: one is middle C and the other is G. When she strikes them and holds them near my ears for several seconds, one on each side, the effect is amazing. Then she reverses their position, to continue my nearly trancelike state.
    I want to find an application that will duplicate this effect. I can't find a tone generator that will create two tones simultaneously, one on each channel, much less reverse channels at some point. I am guessing there are music or mixing applications that can do this effortlessly, but I am too dumb to identify them. Will some kind soul help me out? If no app is available I may try to develop an app for that and get rich.

    In the waveform display, select the part of the audio file containing only the noise you want to reduce. Choose Process>Set Noise Print. The selected noise is stored as a noise print. Then, in the waveform display, select the part of the audio file in which you want to reduce noise (probably the whole file in your case), and choose Process>Reduce Noise. When the reduce Noise dialog appears, drag the noise threshhold slider to the right just a bit (I take it down to about -45db to -40db), and click the play button in that dialog window to preview the file. If you like what you hear, press Apply.
    FYI, this was taken nearly word for word from the Soundtrack Pro user manual, pp168-169.
    Happy denoising.

  • Audigy 4 speaker advice ple

    I have just brought a Audigy 4 card and while I am satisfied with it'sperformance I have an issue with my current speakers.
    I have at the moment the creative DTT2500 cambridge soundworks. Theseare great quailty speakers but they only have 2 analog inputs beingthe front and the rear. So there are only 4 speakers available forgames. So i have no centre speaker for EAX (I have the center speakeron a separate amp at the moment ).
    I accept there is nothing I can do about this and that I need to getsome 5. speakers that cater for all the inputs necessary for full 5.gaming. So my question is what speakers should I go for?
    I don't need them to have dolbly decoding or even digital input but Ido want the speakers to be of the same quality and output as theDTT2500.
    Any ideas?

    I can try that I suppose... but honestly why would updated drivers switch the channels?
    I have run the diagnostics that come with the card several times and they find nothing wrong with my setup...
    Is there a 'reverse channels' option that may have inadvertantly been selected?
    I don't know but, as for an example, I have Audigy 2 (SB0244) here, and I noticed one day while converting wave files to mp3s, that the channels were swapped when using the Fraunhofer Pro codec and not swapped w/ lame 3.96 --> next day, when I started to examine this issue bit deeper, there were no swapping at all w/ any codec (compared the mp3s w/ swapped channels to new ones and originals in PC as a wav and on HiFi system).
    Who knows what's going on w/ those drievers (I'm using the latest driver set) / system.

  • Doom3 EAX 4.0 with X-Fi, t

    hello,
    sorry my english is very bad, i?m coming from germany but i try it
    i will buy the x-fi soundcard when it'ss available. now i have a audigy 2 zs soundcard and i?m playing doom3 with the eax 4 patch from activision. but there are many problems (with beta drivers and the latest offical driver?s, i tried with the normal and beta driver, all right installed), pc restart?s, soundbugs, overriden sounds (mastervolume and wave and bass are on down level but i have overriden sounds sometimes), reverse channels (front right sounds are on back right for example) and any more. this cost me much patience.
    i hope this will be fixed with the drivers from the x-fi soundcard. my question to you: can i play doom3 with the patch from activision and the normal drivers from my new x-fi soundcard well? or can this make problems with a new soundcard, because the patch from activision was only for audigy2/4
    i hope you can me help
    thanks and sorry f?r my bad english!
    EDIT: i have logitech z-5550 5. speakers on my audigyMessage Edited by nightboy8 on 08-3-2005 05:0 PM

    Doom3's EAX needs latest beta driver, in order to work with a Audigy soundcard. If not using latest beta driver, you need to disable EAX in Doom3. Or else you get sound errors.
    X-FI cards should work with Doom3 EAX out of the box!

  • Revising the Adobe CMM - call for feedback

    The first Adobe CMM was released a little more than a year ago. Happy birthday!
    It's been downloaded more than 50,000 times. (But does anyone actually use it?)
    Two companies - CGS Software and Color Solutions - have licensed the Adobe CMM for their products.
    The Adobe CMM output - within the limitations of the CMM framework and APIs - should match the color-managed conversions in Adobe applications.
    For applications that use the OS CMS (ColorSync, ICM, or WCS), installing the Adobe CMM may provide some benefits. The Adobe CMM extends the existing OS-level CMS with an alternate color conversion engine with which a color expert can build cross-vendor, cross-platform, workflows with consistent color conversions.
    It's time to figure out what conversion features to include in the next revision.
    A few bugs will be fixed.
    We're considering providing supplemental APIs to control BPC, but this would be useless to all but those who actually write code to call the Adobe CMM directly. Do you?
    We'd like to know how (and why) you use the CMM, about bugs in the CMM, or your CMM feature requests.
    Thanks,
    Lars

    Hello, Ken
    We've encountered following problems with Adobe CMM:
    1.) Adobe CMM reverses channel order for bitmap formats like BM_xRGBQUADS, BM_CMYKQUADS and probably others. Here you have MS specification: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms536563(VS.85).aspx
    2.) Adobe CMM doesn't accept 'spac' class ICC profiles. For example we have Lab->Lab identity profile, which we use to assemble ICC transformation like Lab->CMYK, CMYK->Lab. Microsoft CMM handles them very well.
    3.) There is serious problem with BM_GRAY bitmap format. At one place MS claims that BM_GRAY is 32 bits per pixel and only the 8 bit gray-scale value is used. In table of bitmap formats MS claims that BM_GRAY is 8 bit per pixel format. Both interpretations can be found in MS spec: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms536563(VS.85).aspx Adobe CMM uses 32 bits, MS CMM use 8 bits per pixel.

  • Select a default alsa PCM via environment variable

    I often use a headset, to select if using the headset or the normal soundcard I use a environment variable thanks to this code:
    ## .asound.rc
    @args.CARD {
    type string
    default {
    @func getenv
    vars {
    0 ALSA_CARD
    default {
    @func refer
    name 'defaults.pcm.card'
    Unfortunately the new headset has reversed channels so I created a pcm to fix:
    pcm.swapped {
    type route
    slave {
    pcm "hw:Set"
    ttable.0.1 1
    ttable.1.0 1
    pcm.HeadsetSwapped {
    type plug
    slave {
    pcm "pcm.swapped"
    The pcm works, but how can I set it via environment variable?
    Thanks

  • Three Monitors with Mac Pro 1,1 and Radeon 5770

    I have a Mac Pro 1,1 3.0GHz with an ATi Radeon HD 5770 graphics card. I'm trying to run three Samsung Syncmasters at 1680x1050, one through DVI, the other two through the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI adapter. I can currently get two at full resolution, with the third coming up as a Generic monitor at 600x400.
    Any ideas how I can get all at full resolution? Any help is appreciated!

    The commodity in short supply is the power to run the ACTIVE POWEED adapters. These contain driver circuits that create DVI from the supplied Mini DisplayPort signals.
    You must be certain that the extra USB cords are plugged in at the Mac end to get enough power to run the circuitry. If not, one of the displays will remain dark.
    At Startup, the display tells the Mac its name and capabilities over a reverse-channel in the interface. That is how the Mac knows what the display_name is and what resolutions are appropriate. Failure in the display, the cabling, or the converter could leave the Mac unable to determine that information.
    Debugging should be done in a two-display setup to assure that power is not the issue. Substitute computer ports, converters, cables and displays to determine which component carries the fault with it.

  • Reversed B&W adjustment layer; export color channel to layer; CS5.1; Ps extended (Win 7 64-bit)

    I've had a serial number for 1 whole day, so I hope this isn't a completely ignorant question.
    What I want to do is to have an adjustment layer that is a reversed, black and white image.  I initially thought to merge B&W and reverse adjustment layers, but read that an adjustment layer may not be the target of a merge.  Is the way to accomplish this to fiddle with the B&W adjustment layer sliders somehow?
    Also, I think this is a related question, if I like how the black and white displayed image of a given color channel looks, how can I export that channel into a layer?
    Thanks!

    You can't merge adjustment layers, but you can clip one to the underlying layer (including another adjustment layer), so that it doesn't affect the layers below.
    Click between the two layers in the Layers panel while holding the alt key (the cursor will change). The keyboard shortcut is alt+ctrl+G (although I don't remember if this is the default shortcut or if I made it up...I lose track).
    As for turning a channel into a layer it's straightforward. Target the channel and copy, then target the RGB composite and paste (otherwise you'll just paste into the same channel).
    Edit: for having had a serial number for a whole day, I must say you have an excellent grasp of the concepts. Those questions aren't ignorant at all; quite the opposite

  • Import is reversing audio channels

    When I put a CD in and play it through iTunes, it plays fine. However, when I import into iTunes, the left and right channels are playing reversed. I can't figure out why this is happening now (after having loaded some 1500 albums into iTunes without a hitch). Any ideas?

    Could the cords to the speakers be switched?

  • ITunes reversing right/left channels on import

    Hi there-
    Currently running iTunes 11.4 on a MacBook Pro OS 10.8.5. When I import audio into iTunes, the resultant files have their left and right channels reversed from what they are on the original source. It doesn't matter what format of audio files are imported. I don't understand what would cause this. Is there a bug possibly? Anyone else experiencing this? Thanks in advance-

    Yes, that would work fine. As the two channels were split by Pinnacle (wonder why it does that?), from the camera, they should Snap into place and be in sync, especially being WAV. The mix-down will be done automatically upon Export/Share. Same for mix-downs of any other Audio sources, like music, or SFX on other Audio Tracks.
    Now, just to make sure that you are getting what was originally recorded, open up Audio Mixer, and if necessary, Pan the Left Channel more to the left, and the Right Channel more to the right. Do not be temped to Pan them all the way in either direction, as you want some phantom center, and that comes from a touch of left in the right, and a touch of right in the left. Most Audio editors prefer working with pure mono sources, as they can then locate them, as needed in the mix-down. I feel that way about 6-channel Audio - give me 6 discrete channels, and let me work with those.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Left & Right Channels Reversed

    I recently imported a classical CD to my iMac, using iTunes 8.0.2. The left and right channels of the imported files were reversed. I proved this by playing the original CD, in which they are not reversed though they are in the iTunes file - whether played on the iPod or directly.
    I have noticed a similar thing sometimes upon downloading music files from the Internet, but it only happens now & then.
    Is there a reason for this? Is there anything I can do to correct it?

    Put the left speaker on the right side and the right side speaker on the left?

  • Reverse audio channels (PCI express X-Fi titanium)

    2Reverse audio channels (PCI express X-Fi titanium)& Hi,
    Today I bought an X-Fi titanium *hoping* it would have the option in the drivers to reverse my left channel to right channel and vice versa.
    I have gone through a lot of trouble trying to achieve this and would definitely appreciate the help in finding a solution.
    Why do I need this? When playing games I hear everything reversed *IN MY HEAD*. If I hear something left... it's actually on the right. Thats why I have to either reverse my speakers or wear my headphones backwards. BUT... I have a 00$ headset that doesnt allow me to reverse my headset because it only wears one way.
    My game doesnt allow me to reverse the stereo. Does the creative X-Fi software/driver allow this in *any* way?
    I appreciate the help!

    VLC media player can reverse than stereo chanels for music and movies but i don't know of a way to apply it to games. [email protected]

  • L/R audio channels reversed when over HDMI

    Hi!
    I hope someone could help me with this.
    For some reason all audio going from the HDMI output of my Macbook Pro Retina has Left/RIght channels reversed.
    Yes, I checked further commutation and when the same cable is connected to another source it works fine.

    I guess that is your best/only option. Use 48 kHz AIF audio in the export/import process.
