...reversing motion in a clip?...

...i created an effect in MOTION 2 with a transparent background, but would like to reverse the action, how is it done? I exported a video file as lossless with alpha to FCP and reversed the motion there, but on playback somehow the transparency of the reversed portion of the clip has not retained it's transparency. Thanks

Whoops
Negative values on speed only work in Final Cut. My Bad.
In Motion/Inspector/Properties/Timing there is a Reverse checkbox.

This feature is not currently supported from within iMovie '08. Such effects can be generated externally using QQT Pro or the JES Deinterlacer (or in iMovie '06).

  • Reverse Motion tracking

I'm working on a project with some green screened footage and some of it was shot hand held but i want it to be still. I was wondering if it's possible to do a sort of reverse motion track, where i can analyze the motion and the make it stationary.
Does anyone know if this is possible in Motion 4?
    Much thanks.

That's just stabilization. It's in the manual look for STABILIZE WORKFLOW.
Keying stabilized footage can get weird because of the sometimes quite dramatic changes in position and rotation that take place during the output/rendering of the stabilized clip.

  • Reverse Telecine affecting identical clips different ways

I haven't a clue on how to begin searching for this.
I recently had a problem trying to get my Sony HZ5U 24p footage to true 24p instead of 30. It was causing big confusion in Color, blending frames together. Even though I placed the footage in a 24p sequence, it would just frames in unnecessary spots. And Reverse Telecine wouldn't work on footage imported by HDV - 720p24.
I was able to import to HDV-Apple ProRes 422 1080p24, Reverse Telecine, and add the clips into a HDV- 720p24 sequence to get the resolution I need...
    Except there's a problem.
Something isn't working when I reverse telecine.
The clips I imported were all 2:3, two frames of the same then three others that were individual.
I "reversed" two clips which came out to 1:1 (I guess), no frames are duplicated. But a few of the clips I reversed came out to 2:2! There are two frames of the same then two others that are individual.
I'm not sure what is wrong. I didn't import with a different setting, I didn't change anything in Final Cut, I didn't adjust anything in Cinema Tools. I never filmed in a separate format...
I have a consistent segment I have to make each week for a program, and it's done this for the past three weeks. And on one of the clips (either the one with 1:1 or 2:2) after I send back from Color the audio is shifted off a few frames.
Why would Reverse Telecine give me different results in the same operation of the same format of video??

remove the "/" in your file name. that happened to me too. Renamer4Mac is a great free utility that may help you.

  • How do i access the speed slider so i can slow motion in video clips?

i an having trouble accessing this function.  I have CS6 (windows) and i can't access the 'speed/duration sliders' to slow down my clip to look like its in slow motion.  I know this can be done...it says so in the help file in photoshop.
    thx

thx, i can't see where you do that (access the function to slow the motion of a clip).  in the help file it says to 'right click' on the clip to access those functions but when i do i get these optios below (no motion, pan, zoom, pan and zoom).  i want access the speed/duration sliders.
i would say the function isn't available at all, but i could be looking in the wrong place (although i have tried everything).
    thx for your reply.

  • How to change the motion of a clip

    Windows 7 ultimate

    Footage 1080p 24fps
    Gentlemen
    A very simple question
How do I change the motion setting of a clip
I mean I have a clip of a girl dancing on a chess floor background
I made duplicates of the same clip ,I changed the outfit of each girl by using effects
Now I wanna change their standing positions , I wanna make it look like many girls are dancing on that chess background , since I am a Premiere user, all I have to do is go to selection track motion and I can put her up and down (dont take me wrong here) by changing the X, Y and few other numbers,
So, how do I move here up, don , left and right
    Many thanks.

Mylenium's initial response is correct:  select the layer, press P, and adjust the position parameters.  As you have also descovered, you can manually change those values by moving the layer within the preview window as well.
These are fundamental basics for using After Effects.  You will have much more success and satisfaction using AE if you spend an hour or two with the resources here:

  • How to apply basic motion to multiple clips

    Hello!
How do I apply basic motion parameters to multiple clips? ie Scale, center and crop? Do I have to set the parameters for each specific clip or can I apply the parameters to multiple clips at once?
    Thanks

I'm going to assume you want to assign the exact same motion tab setting to additional clips.
Set one of your clips as desired in the motion tab
highlight the modified clip in the timeline
    type Cmnd-C to copy
highlight the clips you want to have the setting applied to
    type Option-V to paste
in the pop-up window uncheck all boxes except Basic Motion
    click the OK button

  • Purpose of motion tweens + movie clip symbols

Hello. I've been going over several tutorials and whatnot and I'm confused on the point of movie clip symbols and motion tweens. To me using the other tweens and symbols are "easier". Can someone explain to me why they're so beneficial to have been added to CS4/CS5? Except I understand that movie clip symbols can be adjusted using the 3D tools but is that the only difference?
    Thanks so much

it's easier to fine-tune different movieclip property tweens using the motion editor than it is to control those tweens using the classic tween.  that said, for most tweens, the classic tween works well and it's easier to implement.

  • Slow Motion on Multiple Clips

Ok so I'm newish to Premier and starting to get frustrated by how slow it is to edit in this software. Surely there must be an easy way to make a whole sequence of clips run in slow motion at 50% speed. I've copied down the clips to the timeline but it seems I have to time remap on a clip by clip basis and moreover there's no easy way to stretch the new longer clip in the timeline without moving it first to its own track and then inserting it back into the original.
Please tell me there's an easy way to do this!!!!

Hi Craig - totally understand why you are a little confused as to why I'd want to apply a job lot action but as a wedding videographer, I end the film with a slow motion film sequence of their day. Although each clip does need fine tuning to fit both to the music and to the general feel of the clip as well as fine tuning the in and out points, I do generally use a 50% slow mo as a rule of thumb and work from there. If this facility was available I could then do all the work from the timeline to fine tune which would be so much faster.
I had a look at the frame rate interpretation and while this does allow me to make a multiple quick change in the way that using a nested sequence would also allow me to do the job, the same restriction seems to still be there, in the fact that any fine tuning of the clip thereafter would be either difficult, impossible or quality would be compromised.
I've got to say though - I am impressed with these forums, in less than 24 hours I have had three or four suggestions all of which may work in a different scenario which I may be able to use, so thank you very much again.

  • Motion: recovering original clip (after trip to Motion)?

I sent a clip to Motion to use as a background for title sequence.
I need to do some work on that original clip (SmoothCam) AFTER the titles have been done in Motion.
I'd like to be able to rework the original clip (in its form before it was sent to Motion), how could I do this?
I don't mind creating an entirely new Motion project (once the original clip has been doctored) and then importing all my 'titles' from that first pass through Motion into the NEW and improved Motion project.
I can't quite figure out how to backstep on that original clip though (which is now a End Titles.motn clip).
Any suggestions would be most appreciated, thank you,
    Ben

If I understand this, when you view Item Properties for the clip it says the clip is 1920x1080 @ 29.97fps ... but when you double click on the clip in the timeline and then do Edit > Item Properties it says the clip is 1440x1080 @ 25fps but the sequence is 1920x1080 @ 29.97fps.
Also, please confirm ... you used MPEG Streamclip to convert your HD7 video to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec ... and you did File > Import to import the converted file into FCE ... and then you put that clip in your Sequence.
Would you open that clip in the QuickTime Player, then do Window > Show Movie Inspector ... what does it say for fps and current format?
    Also, back in FCE,
    1) what Easy Setup are you using? Do FCE > Easy Setup ... what does it say for "Use"? Then cancel out of the window.
    2) in the FCE Browser, single-click the name of your +existing Sequence,+ select Item Properties and tell me what it says for vid rate, frame size and compressor
    3) then please create a +new Sequence+ (File > New > Sequence). Do not put any clips into it. Then in the FCE Browser single-click the name of the new Sequence, select Item Properties and tell me what the vid rate, frame size and compressor are

  • Can Motion 5 make clips from scratch?

Hi!  I currently use iMovie and am saving up to purchase FCP.  However, I do have enough to purchase Motion 5.  I was wondering if Motion 5 can create clips from scratch that I could use in iMovie?
Like can it create cool graphics such as opening titles or graphics with words, or is it strictly a software used to edit video once it's uploaded from FCP?
Does this make sense?  Sorry for any ignorance on my part, btw...I'm pretty new to technology and I just switched to Apple from my PC so I'm still trying to get used to all the technology and terminology lol...
    Thanks!

    Absolutely!
For a program that costs as little as it does, it has an amazing set of tools in it.  Trivially easy to learn to do some things like titles, but with the power to create absolutely amazing motion graphics with full 3D positioning and lighting.
You'll be able to boot it up and make titles within minutes.
It will take you considerably longer to master every tool within Motion 5 though.  Not that they're exceedingly difficult, it's just that Motion 5 has a LOT of them.

  • Make slow motion with a clip shot at 25fps

I shot a bunch of clips at 25fps, but now I want to add them to the timeline so they will playback in slow motion but the audio (speech interviews) remains at normal speed. Is this possible, or did I need to have shot the clip at a faster rate in the first place?

Maybe I didn't explain my question well enough, but it does work. I placed my audio recording in it's own track, and placed the video action shots in their own video track, selected the video track only and used rate stretch and dragged it to the length of the audio. Voila, audio plays at normal speed and the separate video clip plays at 45%.

  • Copying motion values between clips/sequences

I have a few sequences where I use still images for backgrounds.
Is there any way to copy paste the values in the Motion tab (scale and center) between clips and sequences?
Now I have to double-click one clip, remember the values for scaling, position, etc and then switch to another seqeunce, open the corresponding clip and enter the values. Quite time-consuming and the risk for errors are at lest present.
So, any tips are greatly appreciated!

  • 60fps Reverse Slow Motion Bug?

I have been playing with slow motion in iMovie using 60fps source footage (i.e. 60fps clips in a 30fps project).  It does a decent job but I have come across some strange behaviour when playing the slow motion clips in reverse.  It appears that iMovie losses it's nice smooth slow motion when the clip is played in reverse.  By this I mean that in reverse the nice smooth 60fps@50% clips look the same as 30fps@50% clips, they are choppy.
Take a look a this clip for an example: http://vimeo.com/27162470  (just uploaded and currently being processed by Vimeo, may or may not be ready for viewing yet)
I cannot figure out why.  Wonder if this is a bug/limitation in iMovie or if I'm missing a setting somewhere.  I suspect the former.

One possible workaround is to reverse the clip before importing into iMovie but I have yet to find a tool other than iMovie that will let me do that easily.  Some quick investigation into MPEG Streamclip, Handbrake, and ffmpeg didn't turn up much.
Anyone know of a tool that will allow me to reverse the clip before importing into iMovie?
