Reversing tracks

I know how to take an audio file and reverse it, I have done it in LE8. But when I tried it in LP9 the reverse option under FUNCTION in the sample editor is greyed out (along with every other function but 'change gain').
I bounced a few tracks from another project and then opened this other project and imported the bounce. When I double click the audio sample and the sample editor opens, the problem above occurs. I am confused as to why this is happening and wasn't able to find anything concerning this in the manual

Did you bounce to a compressed format, like mp3? That would explain the problem.
It sounds like you are trying to edit an audio file that Logic does not want to edit. Maybe it's a compressed file, like an mp3. The problem you are running into will not appear with every compressed file. However, it will appear with compressed files that were created by iTunes or Logic. Are you trying to edit a compressed file created by iTunes or Logic? If so, then use the excellent freeware Max to convert it to aif. That will solve the problem, and it's probably easier than doing the bounce over again.
Although doing the bounce again (and using aif this time) is the better approach, with regard to sound quality.

check the sample rate of the file, make sure it is the same as the project
When you bring in material with a different sample rate, Logic handles this automatically, so this isn't the problem.
you need to CMD A or Select All to process the audio
When you open material in the Sample Editor, an area corresponding to the region is already selected, by default. But it's easy to end up with no selection just by clicking somewhere, and that will create the symptom he described.
It's also easy to get fooled visually because of a bizarre inconsistency between the Arrange window and the Sample Editor window. In the former, a light background signifies a selection. In the latter, the opposite is true.
So it is a good idea to make sure that there is actually a selection. But there's no need to Select All. Of course it's fine to select only a portion.

Are the permissions on these new audio files set to "read only"?
Yes, that would create the same symptom. But I think most likely that's not the problem, in this instance.

  • Import CD reverse track numbers

I imported many CDs and iTunes put in reverse orders.  1st track is in the bottom....why?  How to fix?
I read several old discussions here...all answers just click on Column Name or Column Album and will sort by track number...
This problems has been there since at least 2007...Apple will ever fix this?
Very nice if 1 album in iTunes.  With more than 4,000 songs if we click those columns it's a difficult to find them....
It appears we can sort by 1 variable...not 2 or 3....
typically I sort by "date added" to listen new music
To click to album its sort by alphabetical all albums...
Are me missing something?  Can we sort by more 1 column?

iTunes doesn't do user selectable multi-valued sorts. If you want sorting on the Date Added column to list your most recently added albums in the correct track order then you need to ensure you add your new imports, one track at a time, in reverse track order, at least one second apart (probably not a problem if you're doing it by hand, but it makes a difference). If you are ripping a CD, changing the order so that the tracks are listed in reverse order before starting the rip works. If importing new tracks into your library from elsewhere I have a written a Windows vbScript for automating the process called SortDateAdded which removes the selected tracks and reimports them one by one so that the bubble into the correct order. You probably don't want to use this on existing albums though since it will bring them to the top of the list.

  • Reverse Tracking

    Hey guys and gals,
I just did a test shoot with my actor (whom plays a fallen angel) and have been following the guide "Demonic Face Morph" by Andrew Kramer for reverse tracking. (http://library.creativecow.net/articles/kramer_andrew/Demon_Face_Warp.php)
After I pick whip the settings and stabilize the motion, the footage sorta looks like its underwater! Again the image is stabilized, it just looks like it's underwater a little bit or maybe even gas fumes to think of another way to describe it. It's not too bad but it's definitely noticeable. It looks like this even when I export back out to .avi or .mov and the settings are all high.
I have Adobe After Effects 6.0 Pro for PC. Any suggestions???

Listen to Andrew. It sounds like you have your Frame Blending switch set to the Pixel Motion setting (a fine rightward slash, just like the Best Quality setting). Change it to Off, or to regular Frame Blending (a blocky leftward slash, like Draft Quality) and see if the distortion goes away.

  • Reverse Track

I am trying to reverse a guitar solo track. The manual indicates either Functions>Reverse or, Shift-Control-R. Seems simple however; do I select the track first and then press Shift-Control-R? Also, silly question but where is Functions located?

Select your guitar solo region and open the Sample Editor. When in the Sample Editor hit Command+A to select the entire region, then ControlShiftR and click "process" in the pop-up window to reverse your solo. Another way to do it is to go to "Functions" in the Sample Editor menu bar and select "reverse" in the drop-down menu.
I guess you just found out on your own.

  • ITunes burning albums/playlists in reverse order

BURNING CD's IN REVERSE TRACK ORDER... (Version 8.2.1)
Here is the solution to this problem that has been ruining all of my blank cd's.
I was viewing all of my albums and playlists in the "grid" view. The solution is to simply switch to "list" view. Now, when clicking the little black arrow in the column heading for play order, to the left of the track name, all of the numbers should remain the same, with 1 at the top and the last track at the bottom. The actual tracks will reverse each time you click the arrow, but the numbers will stay the same, allowing you to actual be changing the order.
If you are in "grid" view, clicking on the little black arrow in that column will reverse the view of the tracks, but if you notice, a track with play order of 7 will stay with that associated file name even if you click it.
Switch to "list" view and a track with a play order of 7 will change to a different track after clicking the arrow. You will now be able to un-reverse any playlists or albums you are having problems with.

    ALSO...
If you create your playlist from an album that is in "grid" view, the tracks will be reversed and you will not be able to un-reverse the playlist by changing views. It doesn't make any sense, but try switching to list view before selecting the album/tracks you want to create the playlist from.
I guess this is the actual solution, more than my previous post.
I hope I was not the only person frustrated by this problem for so long...

  • Organising by date added in track order

    hi.
i have my itunes organised by date added so i can see whats newest in my library.
the only issue is that it doesnt list the tracks in the right order in the album and sometimes splits each album into smaller batches of tracks.
is there a solution to this?
    thanks

There is no general solution for what you want, but if you sort your CDs in reverse track order before you rip them it should work as you want. For multi-disc albums, rip the last disc first. When purchasing albums from iTunes pause the downloads and then download the tracks one by one in reverse order. If importing content from your hard drive then these can also be dragged in one at a time (must be at least one second apart) in reverse track order.
The above assumes you want the most recently added album sorted at the top, with its tracks in a natural playback order.

  • ITunes 11 Recently Added and Sorting Order

Upon updating to iTunes 11 last week, I've found that my Recently Added playlist is completely out of order both on my iPhone 4 and in iTunes on my Mac.
The playlist is now set to sort by artist name, not the date that the songs were added. Ordinarily, I would just switch my display to "Sort by: Date Added." However, when I do this, the tracks within each album are now listed alphabetically, rather than being listed in track order. Towards the bottom of my playlist, songs aren't even sorted by album anymore - three albums are completely mixed up, because I purchased them at the same time.
When I view this album on my iPhone, the same problem occurs. The songs are listed in the order that I downloaded the album, but the songs within the album are either in a random order (probably the order in which the songs finished downloading) or they are listed alphabetically. This did NOT happen prior to downloading iTunes 11.
To summarize: I can get the songs listed in the correct track order if I sort by artist, but then the albums are not sorted by date added. I can get the albums sorted by date added, but then the tracks are not sorted in correct track order.
What I would love is for the playlist to show the most recent album that I downloaded, with the tracks in the correct order. In other words:
    Most Recent Album
         Track 1
         Track 2
         Track 3
    Next Most Recent Album
         Track 1
         Track 2
         Track 3
    Is this possible?

    For reference...
In this image, you can see that the playlist is sorting by artist, and within each album, the tracks are in the correct order.
In this next image, you will see that I have sorted the playlist by "Date Added." When I do this, the "Sleeping with Sirens" album is in REVERSE alphabetical order (because it's ascending, not descending), not reverse track order. The albums near the top of the playlist are completely jumbled up.
Prior to updating to iTunes 11, the playlist worked wonderfully. The far-left column (the one that is selected in the first photo) was selected, and it would list all of my songs in the manner I outlined in the first post (albums by date added, with track order intact) and all was well. I am wondering if it is possible to get that again, or, if not, why?

  • Songs out of order on purchased album?

This is a recent problem for me, but it's happening all the time lately. Here's the issue: the songs in my purchased folder are sorted by date downloaded, but in the past, when I've purchased an entire album from iTunes, the songs appear grouped in album order.
Lately, though, they come into my purchased folder completely out of order. It's annoying on a couple of levels. One, I like to play recently played albums in their entirety straight from my purchased playlist; two, it makes it impossible to "make playlist from selection" and have the songs in the proper album order.
Don't know how this problem started, but I'd really like to fix it.

When you import or download albums they don't necessarily get added in track order, or reverse track order. I've a script for Windows which can remove and reimport tracks to sort them correctly but that's not going to help on your Mac. You may need to remove all the tracks and then reimport them one at a time first to last or last to first depending on whether you want you most recent albums at the end or the beginning of the list.
For general sorting tips see http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/grouping.asp

  • Organising by date added doesnt work.

I frequently find that in both folders, trash and 'all my files' the 'date added' item arrangement simply doesnt work.
I could add a file to that folder, then arrange by date added and that file will be way down the list...
Sometimes 'date modified' fixes this, and others times i doesnt.
There seems to be no pattern to this, just depends on how the mac is 'feeling' that day.
Would be such a useful feature if it worked well.
Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?
    Thanks

  • Need info...new to GB

I'm new to macs and new to GB. I'm a musician looking for a way to create music to share with other musicians via mp3 downloads through the our website.
    Is this possible with GB?
Also...I realize from what I've read that I can't use my own keyboard sounds....but i can control the internal sounds of GB with my keyboard, right?
    thanks for any input.

Hey man, i just read this whole post, you'll get what you're looking for with garage band. As with any recording program, the problem will be recording drums, but the loops in garage band are killer, far above most of the stuff on PC in terms of sound quality. I'm a music industry recording and production student at ASU in north carolina, and I do a lot of my own work right here in my dorm room w/ Garage Band. It has its limitations (i.e. no way to reverse tracks, and there are a few more, but most of them aren't very significant), but for what you're going to be doing, it will suffice. (If you've ever used sony's soundforge on PC, this will be a MUCH welcome improvement.) Garage band is the way to go, for the price, most programs that cost up in the 100's of dollar can't beat it.

  • How to accomplish the glowing eye effect?

Hello fellow Motion 5 folks. A Motion noob here. How do I get the glowing eye effect similar to what was done here:
    http://youtu.be/GqQ5i3sTg5A
I tried searching all over the net for tutorials in doing this but came out empty handed. Most of them were for After Effects which I do not use. Anyway if someone could tell me how to do it or at least point me towards a link of a tutorial or a book that could get me up to speed on this effect, that would be great. TIA!

Here's an outline for how to do this effect, it should get you close enough to do what you need.  BTW, this is how I would approach it, that doesn't mean it's the only way.  You will need to be familiar with:
    Motion Tracking
    Bezier Shapes
    Blend Modes
    Keyframing & Animation
If you haven't already, check out the Motion user manual sections on these topics, they go into deeper details than I'll give here for how to use and control things.
-Use the Analyze Motion behavior to track the eyes.  If you plan to do mimic what's happening in the example video, I'd do a reverse track since the eyes start out closed. Track each eye, and then go back and clean errors in the track if needed.
    - Once you have the tracking done, use the shape tool and create a bezier shape for each eye.  Make the shapes fit as close to to the border of the eye and eyelid as possible.
-Apply a match move behavior to each shape and reference the Analyze Motion behavior. The shapes should now be tracking to the eyes., but depending on the camera movement, head movement, or blinking, the shapes won't always match, we'll fix that next.
-Turn on animation recording, and at the first frame and the last frame, adjust the bezier shapes to fit the eye, this will give you the start and end points for the shape animation. Now go through the shot and look for "extreme" movements,( the end of head turns  or tilts, blinks, etc).  Continue to adjust the shapes to fit, but not on every frame.  Try not to create too many keyframes so you get a smooth animation.   At this point, you are basically rotoscoping  the shape. While doing this I usually turn off the layer, so you just see the shape outline and control points. Turn off the animation recording when done.
-For each eye, change the shape color to blue, red, green, whatever you want the main glow color to be. This will create the foundation shading like your example clip (blue edge glow glow).  Go to the Blend mode for the layer and change it to Add or Screen.
-Duplicate the layer, change the top copy to a lighter version of the original color, or almost white.  Don't use white, that will limit control for later steps. Change the blend mode to Screen.
    (Here's where things get fun)
-Add a blur or feather the shape for the bottom, darker colored layer.  As I mentioned previously, this is what will primarily affect the color part of the glow.
-Now you can continue to duplciate either the colored or light shape layers and play with the blur or feather to adjust and build up the glow.  When set to Add or Screen, each layer will make the overall appearance brighter.  Here are a few additional suggestions possibilities to play with.
-If you want the pupils still visible, use screen and adjust the brightness of the color, or opacity of each layer.
-Use different amounts of blur or feather for each shape layer. As I rule of thumb, I always use at least 3 layers for glows. Just don't go to heavy, remember, subtle always looks better.
-Try slight variations in color and brightness for each shape.
    -Have fun experimenting!
    Good luck!

  • How do I cut a hole in the centre of a clip/layer?

I need to cut a hole in the centre of a clip so that the layer below shows through.
The reason I need to do this is their opacities are constantly changing and it creates unwanted shadows where the layers overlap.
An inverse crop function would be ideal. Is there anyway of duplicating this effect?

You can use a reverse track matte to accomplish that.
Draw a white shape in the Titler.
    Drop this over the clip.
Drop Track Matte effect on clip.
Set it to the shape and check Reverse.
You can also use the Circle effect to create a round hole.
    Drop it on the clip.
Check Inverse Circle and set Blending Mode to Stencil Alpha

I have the Jabra Cruiser and love it. The battery seems to last forever before needing to be charged. The forward and reverse track buttons don't work with the iPhone's but this is Apple's fault not Jabra's but the Pause button does work. You should be able to pick one up pretty cheap on e-bay or Amazon to give it a try. It's FM transmitter works as good or better than most FM iPod/iPhone transmitters.

  • Bluetooth devices are not working properly since ios 7 update...

Since I updated to ios 7, my Bluetooth devices are only partially compatible with my iphone.  The devices will allow me to use the phone and all audio/video playback.  However, I have lost the ability to do simpe tasks such as forward/reverse tracks with my devices.  This loss of functionality is consistent across both Bluetooth Speakers (Monster Clarity HD) and in my vehicle (Lincoln MKX.)
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

This problem can be both hardware or software related. To elimnate the option of it being hardware related, I would make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and have them check it out. They will be able to rule out the hardware issue. There are a couple of ways to try and fix hardware issues: 1) hard reset or 2) device restore. I've have linked articles with instructions to both for your reference.

  • Volume Jump issue

Hooray, I figured out how to post a question, haha.
I love my new nano, but there is a small bug in the software that is starting to bug me. Basically, the volume hikes up an insane amount (especially noticeable when using headphones) when randomly hitting the next track button. It's not a difference in volume level in the actual song, as I can press forward and then previous track and then it's an acceptable sound level again. the volume indicator is not affected, naturally my reaction when music is blaring in my ears is to turn it down, and it usually ends up below half way. press forward and reverse track to go back to the same song and I'm turning it back up to about 7/8ths of the way to full.
This usually seems to happen when I seek through quite a few songs in a short amount of time.
Just putting that out there, in hopes of a software update fix. Thanks

most comment here have been about sound jumping up. I'm having a slightly different issue. When I listen to a play list (or even the radio, thats why I dont think its a pre-setting with a particular song) the sound drops to 0. I then take the nano and increase the sound by hitting the plus sign. I can get it up half way, and right before my eyes the sound drops back to 0. It's driving me crazy. It usually happens after 30 minutes of use. Has anyone gotten through that problem?
I tried rebooting the nano, and then it might work for a day or two, but then I'm back to having the volume drop to 0 all over again. Please help
