Revert a bad sync

i just added another computer to my firefox sync account, and i'm almost certain i chose "replace all data on this computer with my sync data". but my sync data ended up being replaced by the data on the new computer (basically nothing). it might be a bug, or maybe i messed up. is there any way to revert back? if not, i suggest reverting be added to the next version :)
thanks

  • 7th Gen iPod 160 Reverting to Manually Sync

    Greetings all,
Since the installation of iTunes for Mac, v11.1.4, my 7th Gen 160gb iPod keeps reverting to manually sync, telling me that it is syncing with another library.  I added some music to my library yesterday, connecte my iPod, and noted the issue for the first time then.  I went ahead and told it to erase and re-sync my music, which it did successfully and everything appeared to be fine.
I then attached my iPod this morning, having made no changes to my Library, and it was again "Syncronizing with another library."  This time I did a factory restore on my iPod, then did a full sync and everything was fine.  As soon as the sync completed, I ejected the iPod, and reconnected it and it was immediately manually syncing again.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I'm considering wiping out my library, removing iTunes and re-intalling and starting from total scratch, but I sure hate to lose my play-counts and ratings...I am also interested if I can get v1.11.3 of iTunes for Mac.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Update:  Another resync yielded the same results; as soon as the iPod was disconnected and reconnected it was manual once more.  It seems to be working now, but I will watch it and follow-up after some observation time.  What I did:
In the ~\Library\Preferences folder, I deleted the following files:
    com.apple.iPod.plist
    com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
    com.apple.iTunes.plist
com.apple.iTunes.genius.plst (or something similar...it's not there anymore so I cannot say for sure )
I then removed my iTunes library by deleting the iTunes folder out of my Music folder.  This is just the library control files, not the actual data, which I have in another location.  I advise caution doing this unless you know exactly where your actual media resides on your system.
I then started iTunes and it asked me to create a new library, which I did.  I did not import any media in at that time.  I then did a factory restore on my iPod.  Once completed I reconfigured iTunes the way I wanted it (all custom preferences were wiped) and then imported my music into my Library.  Finally, I setup my iPod to sync my music and then kicked off the sync.
I have ejected and mounted the iPod several times, even doing so after a full system and iPod reboot.  In all cases the iPod seems to be remaining in automatic sync mode.  Keep your fingers crossed for me.

  • A bad sync overwrote my profile with the wrong information. How can I recover?

I turned on sync on my home computer without realizing that I'd set up a sync account for my work computer. The two computers have _very_ different bookmarks and login/password data. Before I realized it, my home computer profile was overwritten with my work profile. My bad for not backing up my profile, but here I am. I will lose physical access to this computer for four months on 10/23, so I'm trying to get back to the old state. How can I do this? I'm leery of trying a reset, given how I just messed up my system.
My original goal was to have two profiles on my work computer, one for home, one for work, and both synced according to the device name.
Many thanks to anyone who can help.

These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.

  • Bad Sync

Hi. My 6822 wont complete the sync process. PC Suite tells me the sync has finished but the phone just dislays "quitting sync" forever. I have to stop it by presseing the end call button. Next time I sync the phone creates duplicates in Outlook (presumably because the sync process didnt finish) Any idea how I can fix this?

Just check the "Manually manage music and videos" option in the iPod section of iTunes and then, drag just the songs you want from your library to your iPod.

  • Bad Sync Cable

I just purchased my Ipod Touch, 2nd generation. Right out of the box, the sync cable wouldn't work. No connection to my PC. I tried another 3rd party sync cable that I happened to purchase at the same time as my Touch and it worked fine.
Anyone else have to deal with this problem?

    Hello, Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I am sorry that your iPod Touch Syncing cable is not working. If you get the chance you have a couple options below to either swap out the cable or get it tested and exchanged if needed.
-Visit the location of purchase and speak to a store rep
-Book an appointment at the Genius Bar in your area http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/

  • ITunes erased my contacts/calendar, how can I revert to pre-sync?

    Hello all,
My Powerbook's hard drive recently took a dump on me, which was upsetting enough as I had many useful papers on there, but fortunately I did backups of my pics/music library. I sent my computer off to Apple for repair--under Applecare fortunately--and spent the last few days setting up the OS to the way I had it pre-crash.
Anyways, one bright spot (I thought) was the fact the I still had a good/current copy of my contacts and calendar on my iPod. So I plugged my iPod into my freshly configured Powerbook, enabled syncing of Addressbook/Calendar in iTunes and proceeded to update my iPod... BIG MISTAKE. Instead of asking me how I wanted to sync my computer and iPod--for example, did I want to keep contacts and cal events on my iPod and apply them to my mac? YES! Etc Etc. iTunes simply replaced my iPod's contact and calendar files with my Powerbook's blank versions, great. So now I've lost my contacts and calendar in addition to many undergrad papers. I used to think that Palm's Hotsync software was the worst in terms of options and usability, but after this I believe that Apple could learn a lot from Palm.
I've tried Norton Util 8 to do an unerase on my ipod to check for the old version of my contacts file--no go.
    I've tried DiskWarrior, nothing.
I've tried (and am currently still trying) Data Rescue II, so far nothing.
Things are looking real good about now, starting to get little upset here.
    Any ideas?
    -Evan

Well after a Thorough Search, Data Rescue II eventually found an older version of my iSync file on my iPod, which I was able to restore and import into my Address Book. Good thing I only really needed one file (although my calendar would be nice too) because the DRII demo only allows you to recover one file that is <5MB.
I still can't believe that there are no real priority options when syncing your iPod...

  • Edited Playlist Reverts back whe Sync'd

    Hi
OK. So I edit a playlist on my iphone, shuffling tracks and adding new ones. when I sync my iphone to the computer it puts the playlist back to how it was when I created it? What am I doing wrong.
(to get round this at the moment I'm having to create a new playlist (so it's not on itunes) e.g. "Singles 2", adding the songs I want and then adding all of "Singles" to complete it. It just seems a fussy way round.

Hello! Well that didn't work for me as I noticed that when I deleted a song from my playlist it didn't automatically remove it from my playlist in itunes (only if I dragged playlists back and two).
I've foudn that if on my summary page I have everything unchecked, and then I have my music to just sync playlists AND ringtones, movies, books etc. to sync BUT NOT ANY playlists then it seems to work.
Before I had playlist for Movies, audiobooks, tv episodes etc. now I just click on the tab on my iphone and choose which to sync/unsync so fingers crossed so far!

  • QT 7.1 export to FLV - bad sync!

    Hey all,
I just upgraded to QT Pro 7.1.0 and am having problems with the 'Export to FLV' preset. (I have Flash 2004 MX Pro on the system). When I make an export to FLV (which I do frequently for web work) now the resulting video's audio is out of sync with the pic.
This however doesn't happen if I choose to use Sorenson Squeeze 4.0 to perform the same function.
The QT Pro versions prior to this have all exported to FLV with no sync problems.
Should I maybe upgrade to 'Apple Intermidiate Codec' 1.0.1 or am I barking up the wrong tree here ?
Anyone got any ideas they can share ?
    Thanks!

    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

You may need to download some of the Canon video codecs before you can export.
The 2126 error message is "notAllowedToSaveMovieErr" which doesn't mean that much to you.
You may also need the MPEG-2 Playback component.
Should be easy, but it isn't.

  • Restoring / reverting a bad isync

I had a lot of data on my phone. It got there originally from an isync I did a long time ago. After awhile, I figured I should back it up and do another isync, but never had the time or inclination until recently.
Somewhere along the line, my Address book got very messed up. I use Entourage, so I never paid much attention to Address book - until now.
After the sync, all my phone connections vanished. Contacts changed: 32 added, 0 modified and 773 removed. As happy as I am to have all those contacts removed, that's not what I wanted. The sync deleted all records on my phone (773), and copied the funny address book over (32).
Surely there must be some way to recover from this? Since Address book was in an odd state before the sync, a restore on that isnt going to help. What I really want are all the numbers I manually programmed into the phone. Many of those should have been in Address book from an earlier sync, but now aren't. Some never were. That's why I was syncing! Help very much appreciated.
    Cheers - jrab

  • Fixing badly-synced flash myself

Are there any tools (FireFox plugins, third-party flash players, etc), that allow end-users to fix flash video that is out-of-sync while it is streaming? Every once in awhile I come across a YouTube video, etc, that is improperly synced, and it would be great to be able to delay the video or audio as required — in realtime, while it is streaming — so I can enjoy it anyhow.
I'm using a Mac but can run Windows in Parallels if needed.
    • I should add that, where it is the audio that needs to be delayed, this can be accomplished with something like Wiretap Pro's "LivePreview" — you just put a delay filter on your sound output. But if the sound is running behind the video, I don't know what to do at all.
    • Also, if you have the video downloaded, it's easy to use VLC to fix either problem: just play the video and use the synchronization hotkeys (F and G, on the Mac at least) to line everything up.

There's no official Apple Store near me (India, unfortunately, hasn't heard the gospel of Steve) so I'd have to go an AASP in Delhi, next time I'm there. However, I'm concerned that they'll see I bumped my case up and put me on some blacklist of "idiots who voided their waranties". If I took it to them, could they refuse to treat any future problems on AppleCare because I messed up my case?

  • IPod Classic no longer showing folders unless I manually sync

I have had my iPod Classic for years, and am connecting it to my MacPro running 10.8.3 and iTunes 11.0.3. Have not had any problems with it until recently. I keep some of my playlists in folders, and have always only synced some of them (I have way too much in my library to sync everything). All the sudden in the last week my playlists in folders stopped showing up on my iPod. The folder shows up, but it is empty. My only solution has been to switch to manual syncing, and then the folder shows up and all the files within it (and they are already there). I have tried reformatting my iPod and resyncing, but the same problem occurs, and I have to revert to manual syncing, which is really bad when you can't break it off into it's own window.
Anyone have any ideas? this is really frustrating!

Any one else having this problem?
The only solution is o manually sync (which ***** now that you can't open multiple itunes windows) or to remove playlists from folders and they sync fine with my iPod. This only started happening recently so it must be some change in iTunes wity iPod classics.

  • [Bug] Bad algorithm to mark SMSs as read

I use so much my phone connected to my laptop... so I receive and send messenges on Ovi Suite. But is very annoying that when I disconnect my phone many messenger were not marked as read and this is why:
    1. If one contact is already selected when you receive a messenger that message is displayed but never marked as read and the contact and the messenger will remain in bold, double clicking it will mark it as read.
    2. If 1. happens several times until you double click that contact the last message will be marked but the others will remain in bold, and you can't do nothing to marked them but to change the view from contacts grouped view to time line view and mark one by one...
    3. Balloons doesn't highlight in bold even if they are unread.
    4. All these result on a bad sync of the read and unread messages with the phone. Leaving the phone with unread messages that has been already read on screen and replied.
Suggested Solution: anchors in balloons and scroll events could control if you read or not messages in the balloons view.
