Revert to non-optimized footage

Hi,
If I import AVCHD footage and create optimized footage (i.e. prores), is there any way to revert back to the non-optimized footage once done editing to save hard drive space? What would happen if I just delete all the prores files - will the project break or try to open the SD card backup?
Thanks

Yes, you can just select the clips, Control-click and use Transcode Media to create either optimized or proxy media.

Whenever I try to just log timecodes into Final Cut without a tape, it reverts to non-drop frame timecode. How do I tell final cut to always revert to drop frame?

Well I wasn't typing typing either, but when I do type a semicolon it reverts to a colon

  • Manually defining Home directory path- reverts to "none"

Our OS-X 10.4.8 setup centralises home directories on our server, no users have homedirs on local Macs.
In WGM, I select a student, then the "Home" tab. As we nest homedir locations into folders by graduating year, I need to set the path manually. Sometimes, this works. Other times, no matter what I type into the path fields, when I click "save", the homedir location reverts to "None". I can't see why! I'm properly authenticated to WGM, and in fact I'm running it as root on the actual server!
I have had this bug consistently since 10.4 Server came out and NONE of the patches since then have fixed it, despite bringing it to Apple's attention several times.
    Not happy.

I used passenger to create and import the accounts and agree that it is an essential tool, well worth the money.
No, I was trying to tweak the homedir path for a dozen or so users I had made a small typo in, and this problem of the path reverting to "none" is very, very frustrating. The thing is: sometimes it works and sometimes I have to attempt editing the path three or four times before clicking "save" makes it stick. It's the lack of consistency of this bug that causes me the most grief (and make no mistake, it's a bug in Apple's software that they haven't fixed in over a year)

  • Patch 11072246  Addresses non-optimal index use

    Hi,
    on 11.2.0.3.0 on Win 2008
the patch 11072246 Addresses non-optimal index use when an index column is in descending order.
How can we know if we should apply this patch or not ?
Until now no user has found a problem like this. Does it mean that we have not non-optimal index use at all ?
    thanks and regards.

thank you. yes , 13965211 is superseded.
But in 16774393 ( Windows Patch 20) , non-optimal index use when an index column is in descending order is not addressed.

  • Why does my imported and optimized footage still say h.246?

I have imported my footage from my Canon 5D MarkII, I checked optimized media and copy. FCPX has now created two folders on my harddrive, "Original media" and "Transcoded media", so far so good, but when I check the codecs column in my event window it still says h.264 and not ProRes 422?? I also tride to transcode the footage after import but it still said h.246 (Tried to edit the h.264 footage but it didnt work for med so I think I need to transcode it)
Do I need to import my transcoded media to a new event?
I cant figure this out so could some one please explain this for med?
    All the best/ Tom

Info shows the original media format, not the transcoded file. To check that you're using the transcoded file, select it in the timelike and use reveal in finder to show you the file. It should be the ProRes version.

  • Non-optimal separation of items in the top iCal bar

    Hi,
the separation of items in the top iCal bar (e.g. Today, Day/Week/Month etc) is not optimal for me. Is there any way I can move these closer together, i.e. customize the interface, which is something many programs now support?
    Thanks.

I am running 10.6.8.  See pix below
What I am referring to is the bar on the bottom with the items to the right of the "Search" button.  Another thing is that I only want to delete certain items, not all of them.  When I do Safari>Preferences>Extensions it comes up showing only one of the items on the bar on the left of the screen - one that I do not want to uninstall.  I have gone to the sites of the other ones and do not see how to uninstall from there.  Hope this helps to clarify my question.

  • Non-anamorphic footage, do I anamorph it?

    Quick question,
I'm just, literally, about to begin importing 19 episodes of a TV show so we can place them on DVD. The show was "SD widescreen" as the leader on the DVCAM tapes says, but it's not anamorphic. When I import a test clip in a widescreen timeline, I get a scrunched picture still with the black bars, so right now I'm inclined to just ingest in a regular 4:3 timeline and leave the black bars alone. However, to me, 16:9 is more pleasing and I like editing in it more, and I'd also like to do the best job I can here, which would be to make this true 16:9.
What's the easiest way to make something anamorphic? I tried cropping and then scaling, but I don't want to degrade the image by scaling it 133%. I'd also like to not need to export or really even render these approximately 19 hours of shows, but that may be asking too much. Is there, and if so what is, the easiest way to make footage already letterboxed to be true anamorphic not just 16:9 in a 4:3 frame.
    Thank you all,
    -Brian

Thanks Studio, that was exactly the experienced opinion I was looking for. Now I'm just hoping that my boss doesn't change his mind later on and decide he wants true widescreen DVDs. Definitely not going to web, so keeping it 4:3 it is.
    Muchos gracias,
    -Brian

  • Revert to non mavericks os using time machine backup

i have installe mavericks and it has rendered my printing useless, i now wish to use my time machine backups to revert to a previous time without mavericks. this shouldn't be difficult but i have no idea how to go about it. my time machine backups are available via a wireless link to my nas drive.

    I Diff wrote:

Possibly. Time Machine is guaranteed to work with a Time Capsule, an external hard disk connected to it, or a mounted internal or external volume on the source Mac. NAS devices are supported but there a lot of caveats.
From OS X Mountain Lion: Disks you can use with Time Machine
"If your backup disk is on a network, the network server must use Apple File Protocol (AFP) file sharing, and both your computer, and the networked backup disk, should have Mac OS X 10.5.6 or later. The AFP disk must also be “mounted” (available to your computer)."
Since only a Mac can run OS X, what the above means to me is that the NAS must essentially be a Mac.

  • DSLR footage no longer recognized? Adobe Premiere Pro 8.2.0, OSX 10.10.2

A few months ago I upgraded my mac to Yosemite, and around the same time updated Premiere.
Premiere CC 2014 Now has major issues with DSLR footage.
First, I was able to get some DSLR footage in, but whenever I scrubbed through it in the timeline or source monitor the image would freeze, then the software would lock up.
The footage worked fine on a PC running the latest version of Premiere, and there was nothing unusual about this footage - .MOV, .h263, same type of material I usually work with,
I tried opening several other projects (mainly non-DSLR footage, but .MOVs exported from other sources) and CC 2014 works fine with that, so I think it's just something specific to that footage.
TODAY I try bringing some different DSLR footage in to Premiere CS 2014 and it won't even turn up in Media Browser. I try to drag the .MOV file in, and I get an error that the file isn't recognized. I tried dragging one of the files to my internal drive, same problem.
I still have 7.2.2 installed (last full release of Adobe CC before it was relabeled 2014). That takes the footage fine in Media Browser, and scrubs through it like I'd expect.
What's going on? Is it Yosemite? Is it Premiere 8.2.0? Did Adobe suddenly drop native support for DSLR files and now expect us to transcode everything??
    Please help.
    -Brian

Yes, I am not sure why Vinay's response was a PM. Agreed it would have been helpful to post publicly.  All I did was uninstall Premiere Pro CC 2014, clicked yes for the option to remove preferences also, then immediately re-install.
    Here is Vinay's message:
    Hi Brian,
We have noticed this issue recently on 10.10.2 and we are trying to find the possible cause and as per my information this issue might arise due to licensing issues. So, might be in the OS upgrade process the licensing files are corrupted but right now I cannot comment on it. Please follow the step of Clean un-installation of Adobe products and the re-install them again.
Please uninstall all the Adobe applications manually from Applications folder one by one. Once done go to below locations and delete the specific files.
~ Files / Folders ~ Click on Go menu in finder and select Go to Folders option to type these location and click go to Navigate
    /tmp
    /Applications/Adobe*
/Applications/.AdobePatchFiles (hidden, use Go > Go to Folder command)
    /Applications/Utilities/Adobe*
    /[startup disk]/Library/Application Support/Adobe*
    /[startup disk]/Library/Preferences/com.adobe*
    /Users/[user]/Library/Application Support/Adobe*
    /Users/[user]/Library/Caches/Adobe*
    /Users/[user]/Library/Caches/com.adobe*
    /Users/[user]/Library/Preferences/Adobe*
    /Users/[user]/Library/Preferences/com.adobe*
Once the locations are cleaned. Please re-install Premier Pro CC 2014 only to check if it works fine. Once checked you can install all the applications again.
Please PM me once it is resolved.

  • Ingested footage from p2 and cannon DSLRs not previewing in Lion

    Hi folks,
I just recently made the upgrade to OSX 10.7.2 so far FC Studio has been handling it just fine.  I have however noticed one thing and I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.
While I obviously do most of my work and sorting through footage within FCP, I have enjoyed the ability to preview clips from my finder window in Leopard and Snow Leopard... I use it most often when I need to scan through raw footage to find a specific take that I want to reference in conversation with an editing partner, or when I'm double checking that I've got the correct raw footage for the correct project in the correct Capture Scratch folder.
It would seem that since I installed Lion footage that was ingested from a p2 card, or from a Cannon DSLR will no longer play from the finder window.  I can open that same clip in Quicktime Player and there's no problem, or I can of course veiwe it in FCP... but if I want to take a quick look in the finder there's no dice.
Other video files that have gone through a pass in Compressor, or even the raw, non-ingested footage from those same sources will preview from teh finder just fine.
Has anyone else noticed this?  And if so, is there a fix for it?
    Thanks so much,
    avi
    (FYI, I'm on a 27 inch iMac 2.8 i7, 4 gigs ram, running FCP 7.0.3)

You can drag a file or folder into to Finder's tool bar for quick access -for instance, something that is located several layers deep in the file system but often used. It works in the same way as an Alias.
    Here's one I just made:
If you delete the original, the ? appears because the link to it is broken:
You can drag the ? out by holding the command key.
The Dock will behave in the same way if you choose the "Keep in Dock" option, then delete the original.
To your QuickLook issue, I'm officially baffled. It might be a good idea to post on the OS X specific discussions forums here with a link to this thread. Reinstalling is something that really should be the very last resort.
ETA; I just posted for more assistance in the special Lounge area of the forums.

  • Retina Display and streaming non HD video

    Hi -
how does non HD video content look on the MBP-R in Full Screen mode?
Is its blury like the non optimized Apps or website content?
    Is it even more blurry?
    Reason why I am asking:
Watching series online on a regular screen pretty often looks ok but not great. Depending on the internet speed and the movie qualitity you can see the compression in the picture and so see the pixel. How does this look on the new retina display?
Has anyone of the early owner time and motivation to check and post a screenshot?
(like streaming from hulu, youtube or iwatchnetw....)
    Thanks

it looks great, but once your eyes have got used to the retina-quality desktop, 1080p would just looks "so-so"

  • IMovie - quick questions about video files when importing and optimizing

Hi, have some quick questions. I think they are simple.
    1. When I import a video (from say iPhoto), where does it get "Move" or "Copy" to?
    2. Why would I want to do "Copy" instead of "Move", because isn't it then taking up more space?
    3. I'm wondering if after I optimize a video, I can stash away the original (non-optimized video that I either "Move"d or "Copy"d earlier) into an external hd.
    4. By the way, what is the new file name of the optimized video?
Though things are working fine in iMovie and iPhoto, I'm trying to manage hard disk space, and hope answers to these questions will help.
Do you guys have a guideline on how to manage hard disk space when it comes to iphoto and imovie?
    Thanks.

As has been suggested you can encourage people to download QuickTime player by doing something like this...
    http://www.mirroroftheuniverse.com/Songs.html
You can also present your songs like this...
    http://roddymckay.com/Satellite/JukeBox.html
This is a SnoCap jukebox and you need an account to use it but you'll get the link to ESnips on the above page.
A 3 minute song has a file size of about 30 Mb in AIFF format. Converting it to MP3 reduces it to about 3.5 Mb and M4A to about 5.5 Mb.
iTunes will do these conversions for you and M4A is far superior to MP3 as far as sound quality is concerned.

  • AE CS6 Crashing when scrubbing .mxf footage

    Hi everyone,
I am using native .mxf -  MPEG-2 HD footage shot with a Canon XF300, and nearly every time I place it in the timeline or or viewer and scrub AE freezes and crashes. Non mxf footage doesn't cause AE to crash.
I am running a newly built Windows 7 64bit system
    Dual Xeon 2687's
    EVGA Classified SRX motherboard
    96 GB RAM
3 SSD (operating system and applications on one, scratch and cache on others)
    GeForce GTX580 3GB
    internal 10K raptor drive (footage)
External OWC 4TB Qx2 RAID 5 / 0 (switched configurations in an attempt to resolve issue) (footage) - connected eSATA / USB2.0
I have adjusted the preview resolution settings, the preferences, the location of scratch disks, changed the location and connectivity of media hard disk, I have attempted older drivers, and ive switched video cards - I previously was using Quadro4000.  I have reinstalled the Adobe Suite, and just yesterday did a complete reinstallation of the OS. And that hasn't seemed to solved the issue.
In the Windows event log, the error reads: Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\After Effects CS6\Support Files\AfterFX.exe
                                                                  Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS6\Support Files\mc_dec_mp2v.dll
I am new to .mxf and I have only been using this footage format for a few months, however the crashing issue did not occur until about a month ago. Im not using proxies  I believe it was around the time when I applied the latest AE update.  I cant say with confidence it was the update because I also was switching GPU drivers to resolve Premiere Pro crashing.  Essentially AE worked when Premiere Pro didn't, and now visa versa.
It always catches and crashes before going into adaptive resolution.  Are the hard drives not able to keep up?
Footage runs fine in Premiere Pro
    Hardware seems to check out.
    Any insight would be appreciated.

I suspect you're an occasional (i.e. not full-time) AE user like me, you expect things to work as advertised, and when they don't, you're at a loss.
You have to remember this:  AE is a MATURE APPLICATION.  There is code under the AE hood that has been there for 20 years.  Adobe doesn't totally re-write the code from version to version, they patch where necessary to avoid a massive re-write.  If they did otherwise, your reasonably-priced, off-the-shelf software would be much, much pricier, and where would that leave you?
Does every such patch work each and every time?  Adobe does a lot of testing, but to expect that every possibility has been covered isn't realistic.
Here's another consideration: there are so many combinations of operating systems, system manufacturers, third-party cards, processors, etc. that can accommodate AE that it's getting increasingly difficult for an off-the-shelf application like AE to be all things to all people.  That's why you see so many threads where people ask diagnostic questions about OS, Processors, cards, media containers, codecs, AE settings, etc.  They all play a role in getting AE to work properly.
I'm not apologizing for AE.  I'm not apologizing for Adobe, either.  But given the currentl landscape, that's a just a fact of life.
If I had a big shooting schedule coming up, and I knew in advance that AE would play a big role in my projects, I would find a way to transcode my footage on its way into the computer that would cause AE fewer fits.
But that's me; I'm not a big fan of being on the bleeding edge, I like consistency.  You may approach the topic from a different point of view.

  • Indesign reverts back to defaults everytime mac is restarted...help?

Ever since installing CS4 I have had this trouble with Indesign -- specifically with the measurement units reverting back to the default of picas everytime I shutdown/restart my mac.
Yes, I have tried the old method of changing this in the preferences without any other files open. Has something changed with Indesign CS4?
I believe even some of the other settings revert, but none of those bother me as much as this problem with the measurements being in picas everytime.
Any suggestions on what I can do to make it quit reverting back to the default? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Changing default prefs only affects new documents, not those you've already made. Is that perhaps the problem? If the new defaults aren't sticking for new documents, I would suggest the first thing to try is trashing (replacing your prefs entirely) and editing them once again. See Adobe InDesign CS4 * Setting preferences
