Reverted to v10.7; getting error 42408

I used TimeMachine to revert from v11 to v10.7  iTunes is working fine, playlists, albums, etc.  Except...at iTunes Store I'm getting 'an unknown error occurred (-42408)' when it first starts up and if I try to download, for instance, the free song of the week.  I can play samples and browse the Store just fine.  I also get error 42408 when I try to deauthorize/authorize this computer.
I've gone back a couple times in TM to an earlier iTunesLibrary.itl and tried 'previous iTunes Libraries' while in TM.  I've also trashed com.apple.itunes.plist.
Any ideas appreciated...as opposed to ranting how you're going to switch over to the dark side.

Yes, those are in 'HD' as opposed to 'Home'.  They are quite embedded and I don't think I want to mess with all that.
I did use Time Machine to restore:
Album Artwork/
iTunes Library Extras.itdb
iTunes Library Genius.itdb
iTunes Library.itl
Previous iTunes Libraries/
iTunes Music Library.xml
All to no avail.  Still getting the error 42408 on Store startup and when I try to buy something.
Limnos...still using 10.4 huh?  I must say that 10.6 is a great improvement.  I haven't had to run Disk Utilities nor anything like TT Pro or Disk Warrior since going to it!  How many years now?  It's just very stable.  And, I think most Macsters like iTunes 10 pretty well.
When I get the 10.6 Install Disc I might even do a System Restore; just get er done once and for all.  10.6 is so stable I've never had the need for something like Pacifist.  Until iTunes 11 came along.  On the other hand, seems like when iTunes 10 came out, there was an outcry too.  But v11 is different; it's a complete overhaul.  Actually, it seems many people like it; a few of us don't.
Thanks again.

Can someone tell me why do I get error -42408 when I tried to download my recent purchases?

Make sure you have upgraded to the latest iTunes version.

  • I recently updated to latest iTunes and now my pc freezes.  I have a Tosiba 32bit running Windows Vista. Itunes will no longer connect to the store and I get error 42408 when opening ITunes. Please help!!

When I open iTunes I get the error message 42408.
I have googled and tried various solutions including
    - uninstalling, downloading and reinstalling. I have done that about 5 times.
    - sending the desktop icon to the rubbish bin and recreating a shortcut.
    - de-authorising the audible account. My computer goes thru the de- authorisation process and says that the account is deauthorised then when I go to re-authorise under Advanced all that is showing is to de-authorise the account. Weird.
    - contacted a tech guy locally and he has no clue. He's thinking it's probably a conflicting software problem. Obviously.
I have to uninstall the iTunes program just so I can use the internet as the new version slows/freezes everything and makes doing anything on my computer ridiculous.
Everything on my computer runs fine when Itunes is uninstalled. Great. not.
I would appreciate some further guidance as unfortunately iTunes seems to have complete control over my life. LOL! Basically if iTunes fails the rest follows... It's a dominoe effect...

    Update:
I contacted Apple Support and they agreed to waive the $40.00 tech support charge this one time which was very nice condsidering their update caused major problems with my computer. I realise I don't have to accept the updates but when they are released world wide to the public I do expect them to work relatively smoothly.
To cut a long story short after following the tech support advice and uninstalling and reinstalling itunes 10.5 for the seventh time and more than a week of going in circles and days spent away from my business trying to fix the problem - I gave up.  Because, as a non computer geek,  (no offense - I think cg's are amazing)  what I need is a functioning computer and phone to run my business that can be both relied on - all the time. That is what I paid for and expected when I bought Apples' very smart iPhone - I did not expect to be plagued by an update to a program that causes chaos for over 7 days. (And to be frank I've had problems with iTunes for the whole time I have been using it. From importing cd's to purchasing problems. gah!)
I may be one tiny person in a very large universe but I believe a certain standard can and should be expected when handing over hard earned cash to a company with a good reputation.
    I'm very disappointed with Apple.
Unfortunatley they have lost a customer...
This is how I fixed the problem:
Yesterday I bought a new smartphone - the Samsung Galaxy phone uses the Android Market and the Kies program. The phone is as good as if not better than the iPhone. The Kies program runs very smoothly on my computer. Downloading Apps is a breeze. My new phone is about the same size as the iPhone and a tad lighter.
    Problem solved!
As a side note - I will now save about $250.00 per year on my new prepaid phone plan with Boost compared to staying with my previous post-paid plan. I also get unlimited standard national calls in Australia plus unlimited texting too! Not bad for $40.00 a month.
While this solution worked for me it may not suit everybody.

  • Can no longer authorise my computer. Get error -42408

I can no longer play my protected iTunes content, music or videos. When I try to authorise ( or de-authorise) I get the "Unknown error occurred -42408"
This would appear to be since upgrading to iTunes 9.0.3 this week.

  • When I try to access iTunes I get 'The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.' But when I try to download iTunes I get error (-42408)...help please.

When I try to access iTunes I get 'The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. Would you like to download iTunes now?'' But when I try to down load I get "unknown error occurred (-42408)". Don't know what to do next and I can't get into my iTunes library. (I have an iMac, OS10.6.8.)

Did you uninstall iTunes 11 and replace it with iTunes 10.7? If so, you'll need to go through a few steps to put things right:
    Rename "iTunes Library.itl" to some other name;
    Copy newst ITL file from the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder into your main iTunes folder and rename it to "iTunes Library.itl";
    Download iTunes 10.7: http://appldnld.apple.com/iTunes10/041-7195.20120912.d3uzQ/iTunes10.7.dmg
    Download/install shareware app called Pacifist;
    Open Pacifist and, separately, mount iTunes DMG file -- drag iTunes PKG file into Pacifist and install iTunes via the Pacifist application -- be sure to answer yes to replacing everything Pacifist asks about;
    Enjoy iTunes 10.7.

    Hello, Julie.
Thank you for the question.  As the device is registered to the Apple ID, you would simply need to make sure the name is correct on https://appleid.apple.com/.  If the name of the device itself is incorrect and you wish to change it, see the article below.

    Hello suesq75,
This error message indicates that there are one or more components of iTunes that are missing or damaged. Reinstalling iTunes should resolve the issue.

I keep getting error code 42408. What should I do?

This has appeared when people have tried to revert to iTunes 10.x from iTunes 11.
This is what one user did to fix it after downgrading.

I get error message -42408 when trying to download itunes update 11.0.2 and I therefore can not update to that latest version.  What can I do?

    Hey there davidgor2!
I have found an article that should help you resolve this issue with updating your iTunes. The article can be found here:
    iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3297
and the specific part of the article you will want to look at first is right here:
    "Error 42023" through "Error 42408"
These alerts might occur when trying to authorize iTunes or during launch when iTunes checks for authorization information.
Install the latest iTunes from apple.com/itunes/download/
    Remove the SC Info folder.
If that does not resolve the issue, see iTunes: "Error 42408" or "Error 42404" after upgrading to iTunes 9.0.3.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

  • I keep getting error msg -42408 I have tried everything from Roy B and still get ther msg. Any other ideas?

I keep getting error message -42408 when I try to open ITunes Store.I sent a email to support and they sent me a link from Roy B,I tried both of his sugegstions and neither worked.Anyone have any other ideas????

Did you get anywhere with this, ikeaheerlen?
I am having the same sort problem (although my keyboard is recognized so I'm much further along than you).
I had a MacBook Pro with an XP SP3 partition and a Windows 7 partition on it.
I switched to a Mac Pro and wanted to migrate them over to it.
I used WinClone to make backups of both partitions and transferred the WinClone images to the Mac Pro.
I manually created the partitions and restored the WinClone images into each one.
But VMware wouldn't recognize either one.
So I deleted them both, and let Boot Camp Assistant (re-)create a single Boot Camp partition.  Then I restored the Windows 7 WinClone image into it.
Ever since then all I get is "BOOTMGR is missing" error.
I thought maybe since I had dual-boot working (with a boot manager) in the old MacBook Pro setup, that the boot manager must've lived on the Windows XP SP3 partition, and it's completely missing from the Windows 7 partition.  So I figured I needed to recreate it somehow.
After using the Windows 7 DVD ISO disc image to boot from, and trying several automated/manual steps, I can now actually get VMware to recognize the Boot Camp partition as being one, but when it tries to set it up for use with VMware, it complains that it isn't ready because it must have shut down incorrectly.  It says to boot into Windows, then do a clean shutdown.  But when I select the Boot Camp partition from Startup Disk, it boots from it but I still get the "BOOTMGR is missing" error even in a 'native' Boot Camp boot
I've tried all the steps I can find (including manual "bcdedit" steps booted from the Windows 7 DVD disc image) to no avail.  I don't know what else to try at this point ...
