Reverting back to OSX Mountain Lion

Can someone please tell me if I can revert back to OSX Mountain Lion from yosemite w/out affecting my backed up file's?
some of my files predate mavericks, other's don't.
Thank You!

This is my Etre check since wiping my hard drive...can't seem to get rid of Macpaw for some reason. There is also still a "Hosts" issue. I am calling Motorolla today to discuss my modem & built in router as there also seems to be a "Wi-fi" network issue on this computer since the yosemite upgrade. Will this ever end? Is there a way for me to manually remove the leftover traces of Macpaw & also address the host's issue? Also wondering how to reset keychain so the constant password prompts for every single program including Chrome & Safari end. Computer is also still unstable and shuts down randomly since the reinstall. I am beyond frustrated at this point. Can you tell?

• Revert back to osx mountain lion from mavericks?

Since updating to osx mavericks I have encountered numerous issues with my multi display set up to the extent that I have decided to go back to mountain lion
My question is how do I go about doing this as I have tried to go through the recovery but this only gives me the option to install mavericks
I have daily back ups so data loss is not a threat and I understand that erasing the drive is the most likely option
Any help will be appreciated I need this fixed ASAP as I need the set up for audio & video editing work!!!

• HT201364 how do I uninstall OS X Mavericks and revert back to OS mountain lion?

how do I uninstall OS X Mavericks and revert back to OS mountain lion?

You can't uninstall an OS X version. You would have to erase the drive and reinstall a prior OS version. That's why you should never upgrade without having a backup.
However, just about any router in the world should work with Mavericks, without the need of any DVD supplied software.

• How can I downgrade back to OSX Mountain Lion From OSX Mavericks without any Time Machines Backups

How do I downgrade from OSX Mavericks to OSX Mountain Lion. I do NOT have a Time Machine Backup and I dont want to lose all my files. Is there a way to downgrade WITHOUT a Time Machine Backup and still have all my files????

Since you need to erase your hard drive in order to downgrade, you would lose all your files. You cannot do what you want without erasing, so make a backup first.

• Why has maverick bogged down my iMac 21.5 with 16gb Ram to a snail mode I looking going back to OSX Mountain Lion, Why has maverick bogged down my iMac 21.5 with 16gb Ram to a snail mode I looking going back to OSX Mountain Lion

did the update to Maverick from OSX ML and boy has it slowed down my whole computer big time, what a mistake to have done this..... the whole computer has dramattically slowed, I thought Apple advertised be faster and slicker and better use of resources and I got 16gb Ram and 500gb HDD and 3.6 ghz processor, OSX Lion was snappier than this what a big mistake since this was installed.
Thanks god I did a disk image of the machine before I did it Ill go back and stay with OSX ML until Apple sorts problems I see many issues has risen and also Mail is playing up big time so who screwed that up?

Check your Activity Monitor to identify what might be slowing your system. Mavericks is as fast, if not faster, as Mountain Lion for me and I'm using a 2009 MacMini with 8 Gigs of RAM.

• How do I revert back to OS Mountain Lion from Yosemite

My MAC Runs like a Dog and takes ages to boot up after upgrading to Yosemite. Is there a procedure to follow that allows me to go back to an earlier operating system ?

Hey Gary!
Officially, downgrading your system to any previous version isn't supported by Apple.
There are other third party sites that offer suggestions to downgrade, which some for example are:
- http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/10/20/ipad-air-2-release-date-info/
- https://bgr.com/2014/10/23/yosemite-to-mavericks-downgrade/
With downgrading, make sure to backup all of your information! If you do not like those options, you can always Google search "Downgrading from Yosemite to Mavericks" or something along those lines for more options.

• Can somebody please advise urgently... I backed up my entire hard-drive of my macbook pro - just prior to installing osx mountain lion. I put everything into a folder on my desktop - then backed it up onto an external drive. Once this was done - i deleted

Can somebody please advise urgently...
I backed up my entire hard-drive of my macbook pro - just prior to installing osx mountain lion.
I put everything into a folder on my desktop - then backed it up onto an external drive. Once this was done - i deleted the folder off my desktop - and following this - things started to go all weird...pages hanging, the coloured 'wheel of death' appeared for ages. So i had to employ a 'hard-boot' restart - as i had not other options.
I'm pretty sure i made copies of of files/apps/folders etc - however not so sure now as i cant even start up my laptop!!!
Can somebosy please help me urgently??!!!

Got the exact same problem, and I also did this operation many times before, from 500Gb to 750Gb, and then from 750Gb to 1 Gb. Not My HD got a little such complaining about bad sectors when in windows bootcamp, but still runs fine though.
So I bought a new 1Gb drive exactly same drive as the one thats getting sick. I did the clone thing, with super duper, CCC, DU, but no matter it will not boot when i move the new drive inside the macbook…….**** thing exuse me, but wasted so much time.
Now I get this strange feeling that something must have changed in the macbook itself. Just wondering if this could be a EFI "mac bios" prevention thing, they made just to sell more new computers, when you can't improve or fix your old one.
If so, then its pretty scary. If not then I simply can't figure out why this suddenly becomes a problem for so many people, as I see so many posts about this!!

• Once i open the iCloud or address book I lose my administrative privileges, Mac OSX Mountain Lion

Mac OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2
The problem did not exist before this upgrade.
If I open iCloud, or AddressBook, or if assistantd asks for Keychain Access password, I lose all my user's administrative privileges, I can't copy and paste files anymore and everything that comes with that.
The error I am getting is:
The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items.
If I go GetInfo on the file, I can no longer access the lock-unlock feature in bottom right.
My user was migrated from another Mac with OSX Lion, but I've had NO ISSUES until after the latest updates to 10.8.2.
This is really annoying and I do believe it's only because of the update, so any help would be highly appreciated.
Thank you.

Back up all data now.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
Be sure to select the whole line by triple-clicking anywhere in it. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar. A text window opens.
In the Terminal window, type this:
resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

• My friend have new Macbook Air with OSX Mavericks and I have Macbook Pro with OSX Mountain Lion, Can I create a bootable maverick in pendrive from macbook air and perform a clean installation/update on my macbook pro with osx mountain lion?

I have late 2012 edition Macbook Pro, I have a internet connection with does not run smoothly It gets disconnected and reconnects Thus I failed everytime when I update my OSX Mountain Lion to Mavericks in App Store. My friend just bought 2013 end Macbook Air whicch have OSX Mavericks pre installed.
I was hoping if I can create a OS X version in pendrive from his laptop and use that to install and thuss also update OS on my Mountain Lion.
Kindly explain me in detail how to perform this.
I have already taken back up of all files and I am ready to total clean my laptop.
And I want to update to Maverick so I can thus further update to upcoming OS X Yosemite.

The Mavericks on the Air is probably machine specific since it came pre-installed, so it wouldn't work on your computer. See if your friend will let you access the App Store, where you can sign in using your Apple ID and download the installer. You can use this free program to copy the installer and update your computer.

• When installing mountain lion on my computer, why does it say "OSX Mountain Lion couldn't be installed, because the disk \ is damaged and can't be repaired."

I'm unable install mountain lion on my computer. Every time it says "OSX Mountain Lion couldn't be installed, because the disk \ is damaged and can't be repaired. Click restart to restart your computer and try installing again." So I press the only button listed as an option, it restarts, and the same screen comes up again. I can't make mountain lion go away...I've tried many times. What is wrong with my computer? It's stuck like this and I can't even get snow leopard back on there if I wanted to because I can't get away from the same screen. Please help : (

Insert your OS installer disk in the optical drive. Power the Mac down by holding down the power button. Then power back up and hold down the 'c' key so the MBP boots to the installer disk. From Disk Utility you should do a Repair Disk. If DU successfully repairs the disk quit the installer and reboot your Mac. You should update to 10.6.8 prior to upgrading to ML.
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Then do your ML upgrade install.

• Reinstalling OSX mountain lion

My computer is acting strangely and stops all the time to work - I can hear lots of little hard drive sounds and it is very slow until it is done (usually about 10 minutes), and my Adobe CS products are crashing and creating corrupt files that keep stopping.
I tried to reinstall the system today - I couldn't use the installer that came with the computer because I have installed Mountain Lion since.
I tried installing from the 'Install OSX Mountain Lion.app" file, and it went through the motions and said it was installing, but now it appears to be exactly the same - normally I would get the welcome screen and have to configure things. It did not give me an option to do a clean install.
How can I do a new installation to get rid of the existing problems on this computer? It is only a year old (iMac i7) and has 8 gb of RAM so it shouldn't be so slow. My laptop is the same and is much faster.
thanks for any help.

I couldn't use the installer that came with the computer because I have installed Mountain Lion since.
FWIW (and future reference), you should be able to install the original system (if it was Lion):
If you use internet recovery (Command + Option + R), then the original OS version will be reinstalled after you wipe the drive.
If you use recovery (Command + R) the current OS version will be reinstalled.
If the originally installed OS version same with install disks (Snow Leopard or earlier), you can boot from that disk; however, in order to revert, you will need to wipe the drive first.
And, since you want to get rid of "existing problems", starting over with a clean install is best. You do not know if your problems are only caused by the OS or possibly some incompatibility of third party software which would not be fixed if you simply reinstall the OS over the top of what you have.

• Will upgrading to osx mountain lion upgrade my Logic Pro 9.1.6 to 9.1.7?

I wanna know if upgrading m computer to osx mountain lion will upgrade my Logic Pro to it's current update to 9.1.7.
I wanna upgrade to the new osx im worried if it will update all my software as well

First, you can (and should) always back up your copy of Logic before updating, that way you can always go back to the earlier version if you need it. If you do that you might as well update to the latest version of Logic.
Going to 10.8 won't update Logic, but you'd probably want to update Logic (and most other apps) to the newest versions if you do a major OS update like that.

• OSX Mountain Lion - piece of junk

OSX Mountain Lion is a pice of junk!
(and this is coming from a die-hard Apple enthusiast)
the system crashes, the promised quicker performance is at at the cost of stability of the system,
shame on you Apple!
I cannot even write a review using the reguler channels (from launchpad) because it crashes
(and believe me, restarted the system several times)
Lost data during systems forced restarts, this is costing me hours of work!
(automatic data restoration does not work, dociments do NOT get saved)
what a joke!
Give me back my Snow Leapoard,
wait, you can't!

As Thomas says, may be an error during the installation, my advice is to re-install wat mountain lion, then download it from macc app store, create a key or a DVD boot:Want to make a Mountain Lion USB stick or SD Card Installer?- 9to5Mac
save the things you need, reformat and re-install.
also tries to use utility disk to verify and repair the disk and / errors (prior to the procedure that I outlined above.
or re-install snow leopard (next you have reformat ) and install mountain lion
from this address you can see the app compatible with mountain lion

• Why is my macbook running slower after loading OSX mountain lion?

Just downloaded OSX Mountain Lion a few weeks ago and my laptop seems to be running slower - delayed window filling, etc. Anyone else notice this problem or have any solutions? Should I just go in to see a genius?
TIA,
ddhall

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
One possible cause of a slow user interface is a large number of image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons. If you have more than a dozen or so such files, move them to another folder.
Otherwise, take these steps when you notice the slowdown.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Select the 50 or so most recent messages in the log. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
