Reverting Firmware to 7.1.1?

I've been reading alot about the pitfalls of the new firmware for the Airport Extreme 802.11n and Airdisks in this forum, I am having issues mounting my external drive as well. Alot of people suggest reverting back to the 7.1.1 firmware version to resolve the issue. I have had no chance finding it on Apple's website and it appears that I don't have any previous versions of the firmware on my computer when i look to choose it from the manual setup option in Airport Utility. The Update checker simply tells me I don't need any new software. (These are the only specific steps I have found in the discussions here)
Please tell me where I can find the older version of the Airport firmware. Please

Instead of clicking on "Check for Updates," you can get to previous versions of the firmware from the "Base Station" menu in the AirPort Utility.
Start AirPort Utility. Click the "Manual Setup" button on the status screen for your AirPort Extreme Base Station (or choose "manual setup" from the "Base Station" menu).
Once AirPort Utility has finished "reading current settings," click on the "Base Station" menu and choose "Upload Firmware." You should see a dialog box listing your current firmware version and a drop-down menu that lists all the previous versions of the firmware stored on your computer. Just choose "7.1.1" from that drop-down menu and it will reinstall the firmware and restart your base station.
That's it.

  • Reverting Firmware on Airport Extreme

I have a relatively new Airport Extreme. It came with 7.4.2 installed. I recently updated to 7.5.2 and now I'm having a few problems, mainly that I am unable to update any settings on the device. I know from research that this is a problem with the firmware but the only resolution I've seen is to revert back to the previous firmware.
Given that the 7.5.2 update on this device was the first update, is there any way that I can revert the firmware? Obviously nothing is in the historical folder.
    Cheers.
    m

My newer Airport Extreme came with version 7.5.1
After installing the newer 7.5.2, I no longer have the 7.5.1 available. It seems to have been removed with the 7.5.2 update.
If you've never had 7.4.2 then it will not show up as an option to revert back to.
For some reason, there is no "Download" button for the 7.5.1 firmware on the page listed above however there is the 7.4.2 available for download.

  • How do I revert firmware PowerPC g5 to older firmware?

Hi, I have a PowerPC G5 dual 2.0 june 05 that I would like to roll back the firmware. I downloaded the version from apple and when I try to instal it says I have a newer version. Without looking the last numbers were f8 instaled and f7 downloaded.
My fans run crazy. The drive bay fans and the rear cpu fans. No hardware problems running hardware test. Nvram reset, pmu reset. Memory all good,
    I have a seagate green 2tb drive.
I got this machine and another and this was having some troubles and never really worked perfect. First issues were hanging at the apple logo. After much monkeying I was going to use other machine and swapped power supplies. No difference, but noticed that the bottom processor was not seated exactly perfect.
This would explain the intermittent booting. I had it at the apple store and it fired perfect every time, got it home and nothing.
At that point with 80 gig sata the fans and all worked perfect. Since 2tb installed the fans keep humming away. I would change back to the 80 gig, with the exception that it seems anytime I change any hardware the boot hang happens.
This just has me suspect to the firmware issue, and want to roll it back before any more swapping. It is consistent in booting now, and just noisy.
I have searched internet and cannot find a step by step to revert back. Years ago I did a manual update on an imac, seemed I went into terminal and typed a long string etc.
    Any ideas or help appreciated.
    Thanks

Before you go that far, have you reset the NVRAM?  Occasionally a HW change will confuse the device table stored therein and a reset will clear things up.
To reset NVRAM, you need to boot into Open Firmware by holding down the cmd-option-O-F key combination until you get the white Open Firmware terminal screen.  Once you are there, enter the following three commands:
    reset-nvram <cr>
    set-defaults <cr>
    reset-all <cr>
The last command will cause the machine to reboot and with any luck, you should come up with a normal boot.
The fan issue may involve a thermal calibration issue, though the fact that it works fine with the 80 Gig drive says that's probably not the issue.

  • Revert Firmware

    Hi,
I know there are many issues with Macbook temps etc. However, my daughter's Macbook was doing just fine until the new SMC firmware update, whatever that is.
It used to run silently, now she has the fans running permanently, what a racket!!
How can I revert the Firmware to stop the fans running continually?
I suspect I can't, but will ask anyway...
    Do I have any options?
    Many thanks,

    About the Firmware Restoration CD
The Firmware Restoration CD can restore the firmware of an Intel-based iMac (Early 2006), Mac mini (Early 2006), or MacBook Pro to original factory condition.
You can only use this to restore the Firmware after an interrupted or failed update. If your computer is already in this state, you'll need to download the software and create the CD on another Macintosh computer, or you can take your computer to an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider to restore your firmware. This CD can be created on both PowerPC and Intel-based Macintosh computers.
Note: This CD cannot be used to return an Intel-based Macintosh computer's firmware to a previous version if a successful update has already been performed.
You can locate the software for the Firmware Restoration CD at Apple Downloads.
To restore your computer's firmware, you must first create a CD using the disk image named "FirmwareRestorationCD.dmg", following these steps:
Open Disk Utility (located at /Applications/Utilities).
Click the Burn icon or select the "Burn..." menu item from the Images menu.
Navigate to where FirmwareRestorationCD.dmg is located, and click the Burn button.
    Insert a blank recordable CD
Click the Burn button to create the Firmware Restoration CD.
The files are burned to the disc.
Next, use the Firmware Restoration CD to restore your Firmware back to factory condition:
Ensure that the computer you are trying to restore is plugged into an AC outlet.
Turn on the computer and continue holding down the power button until the LED blinks rapidly followed immediately by a successive series of blinks (3 quick blinks, 3 slow blinks, 3 quick blinks), then release the Power button.
Insert the Firmware Restoration CD into the optical drive. You will hear a long tone once the recovery process has begun.
After 30-60 seconds, the startup beep sound is played and a progress bar appears beneath the Apple logo on a gray screen. The progress bar indicates the firmware is being updated. DO NOT unplug, shut down, or restart the computer during the update or you will need to start the restoration process again beginning with step 6.
The computer will restart automatically after the firmware is updated.

  • I want to revert the firmware upgr

I hav just done a firmware upgrade of my Zen Sleek, the behavior of the media sorce program changed in way that I don't like when I want to organize my Sleek player, I cannot find a way to show albums instead of artists, this is very bad, it's near impossible to find all track's representing an album, any work around ?Regard HJWoxen

    Me too.
I have a 40 gig Nomad Zen JukeBox Extra and I'm pretty sure after my last and only firmware upgrade I lost the ability to drag and drop loads of data onto my Zen.
Not sure if it's the firmware or if it may be a Redchair NotMad issue. I'm guessing firmware.
    I wanna revert back too.
I searched very little so far on the net but I know that the hard dri've on this baby is very easily replacable. Is the fitmware on the machine (memory) or is it stored in the harddri've?
Seems if you did an upgrade of the harddri've and made like you started from scratch you could revert to any firmware drivers you wished. IF that is stored on the harddri've.
But firmware is in the machine? Not the dri've?
I just got the 30 gig Vision M and am loving it. Would like to use the Jukebox 40 Gig dri've as data storage.
Any ideas on reverting firmware. Or the loss of data storage capabilities?

  • Cannot recognize my hard drive after upgrading SMC firmware to 1.6

I have a MacBook Pro mid 2010. The battery is not charging so I've tried to update the SMC to 1.6 to fix the issue. I rebooted after the upgrade and the disk is marked inaccessible.
Any way to revert to the old SMC firmware?

    Hey jpgurrea!
I have an article here that can tell you about reverting firmware on your Mac:

  • Windows xp not detecting airport

I've tried a lot of different things to get my Airport Express to work with this PC (Piece of Crap) running Windows XP.  It's like pulling teeth to get these two devices to work together!  I'm no newby to these technical issues, either.  I am very technically inclined, as a matter of fact.  I used to use this Airport Express with a Mac Mini.  Since my Mac Mini is currently inaccessible, I am having to use this old HP Pavilion.  While the Airport unit was being used on my Mac, I did a firmware update to the latest version.  I think it's still the latest version (late 2011?).  Since Windows XP can only run a version of Airport Utility no later than v5.5.3, could the firmware update be causing so many of my woes?  Even when I use an earlier version of Airport Utility, like v4.1, the Airport Express unit shows up, but I can't set it up!  I get a -4 error.  Version 5.5.3 is unpredictable, but it is currently not even detecting the AE.  When it does, I sometimes have to run a script I found elsewhere on the Internet that helps me to log on to it.  If it wasn't for that Microsoft script, all I would see is an Error -6753 or something.  Thus, if I could just get the silly AE to be detected by the v5.5.3 Airport Utility on my stupid XP machine, I could get everything to play nice.  Is there anything else I can try to get these two devices to cooperate?  Is there any way to revert firmware, or is there any need to?  I've spent days working with this problem!
By the way, I have no wireless Internet card in my PC, so I am trying to access the Internet wirelessly using the Airport Express via an Ethernet cable.  That is to say: the AE is handling the wireless transceiving; it is connected to my PC with an ethernet cable; and I need to set the AE up to join a network.  It has been reset to factory defaults many times, and that's the state it is in now.

I do not have a PC here running XP to test, but if I did I would do the following:
    1) Turn off the Windows Firewall in the Control Panel
    2) Temporarily disable the anti-virus software
    3) Perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Express
    4) Connect the Express using Ethernet, open AirPort Utility to see if it will connect to the Express
    5) If still no luck, in AirPort Utility, click on the File menu in the upper left corner of the screen and select Configure Other. Enter 10.0.1.1 for the IP address and "public" (without the quotes) as the password
If still no luck, the HP is likely running some other applications that may be interfering with the connection.  I assume that the AirPort Express is not defective and the Ethernet port on the PC is operational.

  • PC can't connect to AEB external drive, but Mac can.

Until recently I was able to connect to the external hard drive I have attached to my 1 generation Airport Extreme base station, version 5.6.1, running firmware version 7.6.4. It just stopped showing up one day and it gives me errors when I try to connect saying credentials are wrong, but they're not. I've tried everything I could find, including changing some Windows settings, reverting firmware, resets and a lot more. It used to automatically connect at start up, and showed up as a 'Z' drive, and worked great. The drive is fine as well, that was my first concern. I just connected to it from the File Browser app from the app store, and my other Apple devices, MPB, Apple TV, both see it. Just not my Windows 7 pc. This was my last resort after many hours of troubleshooting. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

    Standard network troubleshooting.
    1. If you are using wireless plug in by ethernet.. never trust wireless.
    2. If the computer gets an IP from the Extreme.. ping the extreme in a command window.. does it respond? It must respond before worrying about all the rest.. Windows can auto decide it is now in a public location and ram up the firewall. Make sure your network location is home.. and if necessary turn off the firewall.. the TC must respond at least by IP.. name as well would be good.
    3. Open the Control Panel admin tools and make sure bonjour is running as a service. If it has failed stop and restart it.
    4. Try mounting the hard disk directly by IP in windows explorer.
\\10.0.1.1 (replace with the actual IP address).
    5. If it is only wireless that is the problem.. you probably had some sneaky windows security patch install and that ruined everything.. windows patches are often 2 steps forward.. 3 backwards.. you can no longer be attacked because you no longer have internet connection!!

  • Middle Mouse Click Doesn't Scroll

I haven't installed anything lately, but all of a sudden my middle click mouse button (when I click it down) doesn't work. Before when I click it down, the little arrow thing would pop up and I would be able to scroll up and down if I move my mouse up and down. What is wrong? I didn't find anything in the System Preferences thing and I tried to install their software today, but to no avail. I can still scroll if I turn the wheel, but I want the middle click scroll to work again. So does anyone know how to fix this issue and restore the little up and down arrow thing? Thanks in advance. Note: Mouse is a Logitech Wheel Mouse M/N: M-BJ58
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2.0 GHz

maybe someone else out there who has the mouse can shed some light on if theirs is working.
id try repairing permissions, if you haven't, doubt it could be that, but it never hurts. other than that, I would wait doing anything like an archive/install or reverting firmware till someone else can verify that it wasn't just broken by an update.

  • Time capsule - cant choose DISK

So i am trying to setup a time capsule. After i have reset everything i follow the setup guide step by step and when i need to choose a disk for my backups, i cant see any. When i enter the menu "select disk" there is no disks available? If i then choose the "setup time capsule" and double click the time capsule icon in the upper left corner . the menu pop up an i can under disks see the internal time capsule disk on 9xx GB but nowere to select it... Very frustrating
The airport works just fine through the time capsule though, i can connect to the internet etc. i just cant choose a disk for backup :-/
    any help is appreciated.

Hey LaPastenague - thank you for your answer.
Just to be clear - you want me to plug my computer directly to the internet with a cable, download the airport upgrade and then reset the TC and do the setup again, with my computer connected to the ethernet through a cable?
Im not sure what you meen by "you are running SL still" ?
Can you tell me how i can revert firmware on my TC?
Sorry for all this questions, i hope you have the time.
    thank you again.

  • Slow connecting since v6.3 upgrade

As soon as the v6.3 download became available, I instantly installed it. Now when I wake my powerbook from sleep, it takes much longer to connect to the AX. I used to click the Safari icon and instantly connected to the web, now I must wait perhaps 30 seconds to a minute. Any ideas? Thanks
    Geoff

I was having similar problems and managed to fix it without reverting firmware. I'm using WPA2 encryption and get instant connections now. I remember going through the process below but I don't recall if there was anything else I did. Just try it and see if it helps.
    1. Open the Network pane in System Preferences and select the Airport configuration.
    2. If the "join" setting is Automatic, change it to Preferred Networks.
    3. Delete all of the networks listed, including your main one (it may not stay deleted, but try deleting it once anyway). I had a bunch of them from my various experiments and trips.
    4. Change the "join" setting back to Automatic, close System Preferences (saving the changes), and rejoin your wireless network if necessary.
If the delay doesn't go away during the next sleep/wake cycle, try rebooting the PowerBook.

  • I have an issue with outgoing UDP being blocked after several hours of successfully working (1 UDP packet every 45sec).

    Airport Extreme with latest firmware.
I have a suspicion that I am falsely triggering some kind of DOS attack protection algorithm.
    Additional points:
the problem persists if I reset the UDP generating hardware
the problem goes away if I power down the hardware wait 5 minutes or so and power up again.
TCP from the same hardware to the same server on the net continues to work.
So this leads me to think that the requests falsely trigger some kind of UDP DOS attack defense.
Its not an issue using other APs using the same UDP requesting hardware - where UDP can operate for weeks.
Any thoughts on what is happening and/or possible workarounds gratefully received. I have control over the
hardware generating the UDP so I have some flexibility in addressing the issue.

Thanks for the suggestion unfortunately, this is a product development that has to work with customer's APs and forcing customers to revert firmware is not a suitable solution.
My current solution is to revert to TCP for 10 minutes and then revert back to UDP. This fixes this specific scenario but I suspect there are other scenarios that may trigger the same blocking behaviour so it would be good to know whats really happening.

  • CanI revert mu firmware to the older version as af...

Can you ask for help to revert back to the older version of the firmware as after I installed the latest version which i recently downloaded and now I am stuck with new software that does not support the language that i wanted to as in the earlier version.

    thanks a lot ,buddy,
I just went to Malaysia nokia to ask for the servicing agent to reload the language software for my mobile.
You know what, they confirmed that they are NOT having the latest firmware as my downloaded version,I need to wait for at least another month or so and once they get the latest version ,they will call me to reload and I will be charged abt 20 us dollars for the service.
I am just wondering what good does it make if I am informed by Nokia software updater to download a new firmaware and which I did and later made my mobile works not as good as the older version and strangely enough if Nokia were to put it on the internet for E90 owner to download for free how can the agent still want to charge me a fee for that.
Furthermore, if Nokia is not capable of putting up the multi language firmware as yet then Nokia should WARN their user before the user downloads and installs and finds out that it did not work. I felt some what cheated for the upgrade both making me felt ugly and causing me inconvenience that I need to use back my old Nokia phone and wait for the multi language version.
    This is totally NOT acceptable.
I am really disappointed with this type of arrangement that Nokia does for their so called " premium user" i.e the E and N series users .
    cheers,

  • Time capsule keeps disconnecting intermittently. I have reverted to an earlier firmware (7.6.1) but I am still having an issue. Any suggestions?

My time capsule keeps disconnecting intermittently. I have reverted to an earlier firmware version (7.6.1) but this has not solved the problem. Any suggestions?

    Disconnecting what?
    Wireless?
    Internet?
Local lan? Hard disk in the TC?
    Pray be specific.
When it is disconnected how do you fix it?
If the computer is plugged in by ethernet and wireless turned off, does the problem stop?
There is a bug .. well several really in the networking of Mountain Lion.. which seems to be worse with the TC.
It will lose access to the hard disk on regular basis. and it is just that .. a bug.. a reboot of the TC fixes it.
Did you use all very short names for TC.. wireless and disk name?
Is the issue with Time Machine? Or what and how are you using the computer that causes the problem.
Pondini has listed several solutions or work arounds for TM. See C section of his KB. on troubleshooting.

C12 and C17 being the most common.. asked several times a day.
