Reverting from Windows 10 or performing a factory reboot?

I've been experiencing the internal_power_error, and the solution isn't working for me. Whenever I try to go into safe mode, I get the error as it's restarting. Does anyone know how I can revert to 8.1 or perform a factory reset?

You can create a bootable USB drive with a Windows 8.1 image on it if you want to do a clean install. The files from the old OS are also still on the hard drive but I'm not sure how you'd be able to use them if you can't boot to Windows 10. It's possible that it'll let you repair or something though if it finds the files instead of a clean install.

  • Can I revert to Windows 7 from 8 w/o reformatting?

I have got Windows 8 installed on a partition.  I think it's 8 Pro, but not positive.   I know it was the $80 upgrade for students.  Is there a way to revert back to Windows 7 without reformatting and starting over with Boot Camp Assistant?  I'd really REALLY rather not have to delete everything and transfer it back from my backup drive again, if there's any other option.....
I don't currently have a key for 7 Professional, but I'm told Microsoft does allow you to get one of those, since there have been so many that have disliked Win 8.  I've got Mountain Lion 10.8.4 on the Mac side, if that makes any difference.
    Any advice greatly appreciated!

What you can do is to start the MacBook from the Windows DVD and perform a clean install. Doing this you won't keep your applications, but you will keep your user files in the "Windows.old" folder.
As far as I know, Microsoft doesn't allow you to get a product key for Windows 7 if you don't like Windows 8, more when you have upgraded from Windows 7 and I suppose you have the product key. If you reinstall, you will be able to use Windows for 30 days without product key

  • Can not reboot into OSX from Windows using Bootcamp assistant

I'm having a bit of a problem with rebooting into OSX from Windows on bootcamp. Clicking on the icon in the system tray produces a message that Windows can not find the OSX disk. Trying to open the Bootcamp preferences also generates an error. I have no problem getting back into OSX if I shut down Windows and restart the MacPro while holding down the option key. This is with a Windows 7 install on Bootcamp, but I had the same issue with a previous install of Win XP. I nuked and paved OSX and the WIndows disk between installs so my current problem is not carry over from the XP install.

My bad I should have been more clear. The problem is actually with a XP install via bootcamp, my Win 7 install is in VM Ware Fusion.
The XP install is on a second drive. Since you asked about this I'm assuming it may be the reason Im having problems.
The error is I get when trying to access bootcamp via the Windows control panel or by right clicking the sys tray icon is - "An error occured while trying to access the start up disk settings. You may not have privileges ...blah, blah, blah. I only created one account and I have enough privliges to change admin stuff in windows so I cant see privliges being the issue. I reassigned the OSX partition a new drive letter and rebooted windows but this didn't help.
The only drivers I installed, other then updating the video driver, are the bootcamp drivers

  • How can I revert back to Yosemite from Windows 8.1?

Looks like I've really screwed up this time. I was trying to set up Windows 8.1 on my iMac Yosemite) and decided to use boot camp. After 8.1 was installed I wanted to go back to Yosemite but can't seem to do it. Is there no way to return to Yosemite from boot camp? I know the drive was partitioned into OS X and Windows sections and when I reboot holding down the option key, there is no partition for OS X shown. Please help.

We'd tested other browsers such as Netscape, Firefox, Opera and we don't hit any problem with them

  • Black screen on reboot from windows to mac?

    Hello,
A black screen is stalking me... I'd be much obliged if anyone can help.
    The problem:
I have Windows 7 installed with Bootcamp. Every time I shut down / restart from  Windows  to get to the Mac side, the chime rings, but the screen stays black. I can tell the Mac is running though, because of the sound I hear when I press the volume up/down keys on the keyboard. Then, at some point (5 - 30 - 60 mins later) the computer decides out of nowhere it's time to unveil the desktop... This never happens when I reboot from the Mac side (unless I force shutdown while the black screen is still there).
Things I tried that didn't work:
    - Command-Option-P-R to reset NVRAM (worked once but didn't fix it, and now when I try the screen stays black)
    - Resetting SMC
    - Apple Diagnostics came back with no issues found (when I restarted after the diagnostics, I got hit with the black screen again...)
    - Erasing the Windows partition and reinstalling it.
    Things I should probably mention:
The mac is a late 2013 iMac, Intel Core i5 with NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M, running OSX 10.9.1
I apologize if this has an obvious solution I somehow missed, or if it was answered in another post.
    Thanks for your time.

One way is to wipe the iPod clean and use it as a hard drive to carry the files over to the new comptuer. You must format the iPod in what's called Fat32, the older formatting for DOS. If you do this on a Mac, you use the Disk Utility to Erase the disk, and you choose MS-DOS for the format.
Then you plug in the iPod to the Mac, drag the iTunes Music folder to the iPod disk. Then you plug it into the Windows machine and drag the files to your iTunes folder there. See some instructions here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
On the other hand, you might try using a 3rd party program that takes songs off the iPod. But Windows doesn't read the Mac files, I bet they won't help you move the music cross-platform.
    Hope this helps...

  • MacBook Pro won't sleep in OS X after reboot from Windows (again!)

This problem originally occurred about a year ago and no solution was found then but after a time, it simply went away. Well, now it's back: after a reboot into OS X (10.6.7) from Windows (7 Ultimate 64 Bit), my MacBook Pro refuses to sleep until rebooted a second time, after which it behaves correctly again. The Console log reports the following message: "System Sleep prevented by active remote login session (600 second threshold)". I've disabled Growl and DropBox (possible suspects last time) to no effect, reset the SMC and PRAM, all the usual things. I've tried when connected to mains power or battery, on wired, wireless or no network at all and still the same problem. Sleep behaviour under Windows is correct. Hopefully the problem will eventually cure itself as it did last time but I would like to discover the reason and find out what this "remote login session" could possibly be. To reiterate, this ONLY occurs immediately after rebooting from Windows.

Tried repairing BootCamp in 7, no change, don't think there was anything wrong with it in the first place.
Here is a section of the log after reboot from BootCamp and it says "System Sleep prevented by active remote login session (600 second threshold)". This ONLY happens after a reboot from Bootcamp, after another reboot all goes back to normal. What could the "active remote login session" be?
    From log:
21/04/2010 23:08:56 kernel PM notification cancel (pid 16, configd)
21/04/2010 23:08:56 kernel IOPMrootDomain: idle cancel

  • Reboot into Arch from Windows

I don't really know where this post belongs, so I put it in the "Newbie Corner" since I'm new.
Is it possible to add a menu entry, make a shortcut, make a script, or make a program in Windows (7) that will allow me to reboot into Arch without having to choose it in the GRUB menu?
    Thanks,

Its possible to access ext2/ext3 partitions from windows, google for it. I did it before, way back when I was still dual-booting.
    Mine is an ext4 partition.
Grub is on the boot partition which will be ext2(Unless you specifically made it something else). Windows will be able to mount this fine and a script will be able to edit the Grub Menu before Windows shuts down.

  • Firefox will not start unless reboot has been done. If start is attempted, Firefox gets hung up, cannot close or log off from Windows.

I can start Firefox when I have just rebooted. If I close Firefox and come back later and try to restart Firefox, it tries to start but never does. A Control/Alt/Delete shows that it is running, but it does not load the screen. I cannot turn Firefox off or log off from Windows.

  • If I reboot to Windows directly from Windows (bootcamp options), I cannot launch a vm in Hyper-V

    Hello guys,
If I reboot to Windows directly from Windows (bootcamp options) or press "option" key and select Windows after power on iMac, I cannot launch a vm in Hyper-V anymore (the Windows Phone 8 emulator to be precise). It says hardware virtualization is not enabled in BIOS.
When I boot Windows from OS X > Startup Disk > Boot Windows or boot OS X and reboot iMac and boot Windows after press "option" key and select Windows, I can launch a virtual machine in hyper-V, so that's cool.
    How it fix? Any ideas?

You should always use System Preferences -> Startup Disk. It enables the CSM-BIOS layer. When you use the Option Key, Windows will come up, but underlying CSM-BIOS layer is not invoked. The Hyper-V depends on BIOS settings, it will only work when using the Startup Disk option.

  • How can I perform a factory reset on an Apple TV over a network from another room?

I would like to either perform a factory reset or erase user account information on a third generation Apple TV located in another room preferably over a network. This would allow me to manage the devices off site over IP with different people using the device and setting up their accounts for Netflix etc. Is this possible? I have heard of this being done without jailbreaking and I am curious to how they have done it.

Thanks Brian. It looks like the Apple Configurator app will reset settings and account info. I will look into third party apps as well. It needs to be as simple and quick as possible as we would be doing it daily to many ATVs.

  • How can i Perform a complete factory reboot on a macbook?

I have just brought a new imac and now i want to perform a factory reset on my mac book to clean it all up, but i dont know how can anyone please help me.
    thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If there is absolutely nothing on your MacBook you want to save, you can insert the original system CD/DVD disc that came with your computer, use the utilities there to erase the hard drive, reset system passwords, and reinstall OS X and original applications included.
There are various wipe schemes available that erase and over-write the data on the hard drive a number of times, however, these are not 100% guaranteed to absolutely remove all traces of original data.
A determined person or government agency would likely still be able recover some information. If data security is a concern, you might be better purchasing a new hard drive to install and just keeping or destroying the original drive.
