Review quiz - move to next slide

I have a quiz which seems to work fine until it comes to reviewing it.  When i click 'review' it takes me to the first question which shows whether it was answered correctly/incorrectly but there doesnt seem to be anyway to move onto the next question.  No buttons appear at the bottom so you are just stuck on Q1.
Any ideas what's happened?
(captivate 6)

Hi Lilybiri,
I ran into the same navigation-during-Review problem, so I will try your solution.
I have 3 multiple choice questions.
I want to hide the Next button under the Clear button (although having a clear button is a little strange for multiple choice question because you can simply click on a different radio button, right?)
I added both buttons to all 3 multiple choice questions.
The first multiple choice question slide was easy - the Clear button slid right over the Next button.
However, on the 2nd and 3rd multiple choice slides, the Clear button slide under the Next button for some strange reason. As the buttons don't appear in the timeline, I cannot change their layer order. Right clicking doesn't help as there is no option to 'send backward.'
The Clear vs. Next stack positioning does not appear in your blog entry:
"All objects on the questions slides have top priority, and this is the sequence of the stack:
top most is Back button
Clear button just under the Back
Skip under Clear
Submit is the bottom object "
Any ideas how I can get the Clear button to appear over top of the Next button?
thanks!

  • Quiz allowing move to next slide without answer

I have a problem with the user being able to bypass the quiz without answering.
The global preferences are set to Required - the user must take the quiz to continue.
The quiz is set up so that pressing the submit button gives a custom correct/incomplete/failure feedback caption.
Actions are set to On Success and On Failure (with 1 attempt) to Go to the next slide.
There are also forward and back buttons.
If the user does not take the quiz but instead hits the forward button they can advance without answering the quiz.  When we tried removing the forward button the user could still move forward by clicking on the screen twice.
If the user answers the quiz and hits submit they get the correct caption but the slide does not advance to the next slide on both success and failure conditions.
We've been beating on what should be a simple bug for a week now and failed to find a solutions so we could really use some expert insight.
I am running Captivate 8 on a Mac

I think you messed up the embedded features of the question slides. Have a look at:
Question Question Slides in Captivate - Captivate blog
Personally I will never allow Backwards movement at all in a quiz. If you do that, you can drag the Next button under the Clear button. The Next button has a double functionality: during the Quiz it acts as a Skip button and that is what you do not want. During Review it acts as a Next button. If you do not use Review, you don't need the Next button. If you want Review, dragging the Next button under the Clear buttons solves the problem: during Review both Clear and Submit button will disappear and the Next button will be come available.
I cannot see directly what happened with the actions that are not executed, unless you have another shape button on the question slide that pauses after the pausing of the Submit button.
Your setting 'Required....' can cause problems as well, especially since you allow free navigation within the quiz (and outside) with the Back and Next navigation.
Please, try to read that blog post, and if you have more questions, will try to answer them.

  • Quiz - Show "Correct!" and move to next slide automatically.

I would like the "Correct" message to show on Submit, wait a second (so they can see it) and then move to the next question automatically.  But I also would like it to work in the std method for incorrect answers. (show msg, require a click to acknowledge they got it wrong, then move on to the next question.  Is this possible?

Hello and welcome to the forum,
You can skip one of the two steps, as I explained in this blog post, but only if you do it both for Correct/Incorrect answers. If you want a different behavior you'll need to create custom question slides. In Captivate 6 you can insert a shape button on a question slide, which could then simulate this behavior, but in CP5.5 no interactive objects can be added. You'll find a lot of use cases for custom question slides on my blog as well.

  • Next button in Review Quiz not working in HTML5.

    Hey folks,
We've created a course in CP7 and when I take the course on a Computer (SWF) everthing works fine, but when I take the course on an iPad (HTML5), and go into the Review Quiz section, the Next button is not working. When I click it you can see the click animation of the button being pressed, but it doesn't progress to the next question. I'm forced to close the window as there is no other navigational options, but when I do that and re-open the course, it takes me back to the beginning of the course like I haven't even attempted the course.
I've searched for a previous instance of this and I couldn't find anything, so I was hoping someone has either run into this issue before or might have a suggestion on how to resolve it. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hello,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
Need more information about this issue :
    1) Does it happen on a specific project or with a sample project as well (2 or 3 question slides) ?
    2) Which iPAD are you using and what is the iOS version ?
Make sure you have CP 7.0.1 update installed (Launch CP7 -> Click on Help -> About Captivate)

  • Quiz Skip Button Jump to Another Slide that is not Next slide.

Is it possible to make the Quiz Skip button jump to another slide besides the next slide? I'm using Captivate 7.
Basically, I want the quiz slide to exit to another slide that is not the next slide.

Branch aware is a totally different thing: it makes the quizzing variables dynamically adapting to the questions that are taken by the trainee.
You are talking about the Skip button, which is puzzling because that button label was changed to Next since version 6. And Branch aware only appeared in 6. Which version are you using? You are talking about shapes so it must be 6 or later.
Another question: do you allow Review? Because in that case you'll need that Next (Skip) button. http://blog.lilybiri.com/question-question-slides-in-captivate
You are talking about a 'custom Skip button'? Can you explain, and also what you mean by the rollover shape? If you have a custom button it should be visible on the timeline of the slide, contrary to the default objects on question slides that are embedded and have no separate timeline. Or was the question master slide edited to add a rollover shape to the default Next button?

  • Why doesn't Firefox run an adobe flash player slide show (no arrows to move to next/previous slide), but internet explore does?

When I try to run a slide show in Firefox, the first slide displays but the arrows to move to next/previous slide do not appear. When I try in Internet Explorer, the arrows appear. Flash Player is enabled in Firefox. There must be another setting I need to adjust. I am running Windows 7. I don't see how to access Tools menu item in Firefox. I don't see where I can check my Firefox version. It is the current version as is Flash Player.

  • Power point project won't move to the next slide

I create a project with several power point slides and then some automation and then slides again. The automation created within captivate moves from slide to slide. But the power point slides don't move to the next slide automatiacally. I have to click on next to make them move. I looked in the manual and can't find a source to tell me what to do with the slides to make them move automatically (like a slide show would be).  Any suggestions?

    Hi there
When you import a PPT, you have two options. One option allows the PPT to just play through. The other option inserts a Click Box object on slides that prevents the slide from moving forward until clicked by the user. The choice is made in the dialog.
The default is On mouse click. After your slides arrive, the timeline looks like this:
To allow the slide to move forward, delete the Click Box.

  • After selecting Review Quiz, user is not provided path to Retake Quiz.

Additionally the play bar must be used to move through review instead of a button.  All settings seem correct.   Advice anyone?

That is by design: if the user chooses to Review, the remaining attempts on quiz level are considered over. For that reason I will always drag the Review button under the Retake button, so that it will become visible only when all Quiz attempts are exhausted.
During Review you need the Next button (that doubles as Skip button during Quiz).  To avoid confusion for the user between Submit and Next, I will drag the Next button under the Clear button. It is not possible to drag it under the Submit button.

  • On nView titlebar, clicking "Move to next display", The resizes bigger, but not smaller.

Hello and TIA for your help.
    Environment:
Lenovo T61 laptop (model 6457-Z4U) set to 1680x1050
Internal video controller: NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M
External monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 940BF set to 1280x1024
    Win XP SP2
Problem: I am using the nView Desktop Manager and nView Control Panel. On the nView titlebar on the laptop, when I click the "Move to next display" button, then the window does move to the external monitor, and sizes the window to 1280x1024 to fill the screen. Good.
But, when I do the same on the external monitor (click the "Move to next display" button), then the window keeps the same size, and does not resize to the larger laptop window size (1680x1050).
In other words, the windows resize to the smaller display, but not the bigger display. What setting should I change?

  • Review Quiz - Matching Question

Hi fellow Captivate-rs! I'm urgently hoping for some help...
I've got a four-question "Knowledge Check" (quiz), complete with a "Results" slide, at the end of my project. When clicking the "Review Quiz" button, the correct answers display for the user to compare against theirs as well (as should occurr, of course). The only exception is with "Matching" questions. When reviewing them, I see yellow boxes where the correct answer could/should be viewed. However, the correct answer(s) do not appear. Does anyone know of a solution? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Captivate doesn't allow much flexibility in these pre-programmed quiz question slides.
If you're not trying to output to HTML5 you could rebuild the question as a drag and drop interaction using the Infosemantics Drag and Drop Lite Question Widget.
    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate-widgets/drag-and-drop/question
This widget has a special trick for showing the correct answer when in Review Mode.  Your learner can mouse over an object you specify in the widget settings that will then cause the drag objects on screen to animate and move to their correct positions.  See the instructions on this page under Show Correct Answer:

  • Backwards Navigation When Reviewing Quiz Questions

I have discovered from some students that they can cheat on my quiz. They take the quiz, review their answers and make note of the correct answers, then either drag the navigation slider backwards or click the Back button to return to the beginning of the quiz. This resets their original answers and allows them to retake the quiz with the answers they took from their notes.
The quiz is set up to allow multiple attempts, but I assume they should be starting over with each attempt. My quiz questions are randomized from a test pool, so hopefully they do not see the same questions again and not in the same order. However, by cheating in this way, they can take the same questions in the same order.
Is there anyway to limit backwards movement when reviewing the quiz?
I have turned off backwards movement while they are taking the quiz, but this setting is turned off when they start reviewing the quiz.
    I am using Captivate 5.

Thanks for the information. Yes I have set the quiz up to allow users to review their answers. Yes I assume they will take notes on the answers, but I have not enabled the Retake Quiz button. Once they get to the results page and choose to review their answers, I assumed (incorrectly) that their answers would be locked and they would not be able to change the answers or results for their attempt.
My instructions tell them to relaunch the training, go through it again, and then take the quiz again. With the questions and answers being randomized, I was hoping that their notes (question 1 answer is B - question 2 answer is C - etc.) would not be very helpful to them and they would put effort into taking notes from the training to help them on the test instead.
    You said the following:
"If a user clicks the Review Quiz button after any attempt, they will be unable to perform a new attempt on that quiz until they relaunch the lesson again.  Also, if the user jumps outside the Quiz Scope by navigating back to any slide before the first scored object or quiz question, they will be unable to reattempt the quiz until relaunch."
I have tested this out, launching the training from the LMS, and it is not correct. I can go through the quiz, review my results, drag the slider or click the back button to the beginning of the quiz, and take the quiz again.
I have disabled backwards movement during the quiz, but once you start reviewing a quiz, backwards movement is once again enabled via the slider or back button.
I can hide the playbar and navigation controls, but when you get to the review, the navigation controls remain hidden and you cannot advance through the questions to see the results. I thought of adding a separate Forward button on the quiz question slides to allow the user to go forward as they review the slides, but you cannot add buttons or clickboxes to question slides.
I could certainly turn off the review functionality, but I think it is valuable information to the student. I need to allow them to retake the quiz, as my boss has set a very high bar (100% passing score) on the quiz.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
By the way, after typing up this response, I started doing some playing around, and I figured out a fix. I turn off the navigation controls before the quiz and enable the Skip button on each question slide. With the navigation off, the user can answer the questions and click Submit. Then when reviewing the answers, they can navigate forward by clicking Skip. They can no longer navigate backwards through the quiz and training material.

  • Captivate 3 - Continue and Review Quiz Button Not Working

I have just published a SCORM course in Captivate. It works perfectly fine once I've uploaded it into the LMS except one small part. I've set up the quiz so each learner is required to pass the quiz in order to complete the module. At the end of the quiz, the results page appears with two buttons (Continue and Review Quiz). Those buttons don't work.
I set up the quiz so that learners have 2 attempts to successfully complete it. If they're unsuccesful, the continue button should direct them to the beginning of the quiz so they could retake it. If they have successfully complete, the continue button should take them to the next slide. That's not working. For some reason, the continue button only works if the learner has failed the quiz. The Review Quiz button also doesn't work. I did select the option allowing them to do so. Can someone please help?

  • How do I set my project to advance to next slide on mouse click vs just play?

Captivate 6 on mac running OS 10.7.5 file format in question .htm (firefox)
I'm brand new to Captivate 6 (never used it before) I have put together a mock presentation from scratch which has a few introductory slides then a quiz. When I publish it there is a "play" button which is NOT the behavior I want.
I watched a training video from Lynda.com and the insstructor imported a PPT file, there was a dialog box which asked the how to advance slide, there was a drop down menu and one of two options was advance "on mouse click". This is the behavior I'm looking for.
I've scoured the internet and forums etc to find a comparable option elsewhere in Captivate 6 when creating from scratch vs importing from PPT and cannot find one anywhere. I've also read that you can insert a click box object and that that would do what I'm looking for but that doesn't work either.
Does any such option exist and if so where/ how do I get to it/ use it. Please see attachments below. First screen shot is the first slide I get which isn't the first slide either, what's up with that? Next one is simply to show how the project just "plays" instead of advancing slide by slide. Third is my publish dialog box. Bottom line I don't want a "play" button I want the user to mouse click next, next, next etc. How do I do this?
Thank you for any help or suggestions!

Maybe I understand something wrongly, but thought you also wanted to know how you can make slides advance on clicking the Next button instead of having it playing on automatically? And instead of using the playbar you want to have a Previous and Next button?
The way imported PPT with advance on Mouse click works is because there is a click box added to each slide that pauses that slide at its end. The user has to click on the slide to advance.
A click box is an 'interactive' object: this means that you can have it pausing the slide, that the user can interact with it and trigger an action like 'Go to Next Slide'.
You added (from what I see on the last screenshot) another interactive object, but now I'm confused: the third screenshot has a Prev and Next arrow, I think those are shapes. You do not need to add a click box on top of them (what I see on the last screenshot), they can be converted themselves into buttons. I blogged a lot about those shape buttons. Anyway, both click box and shape button can pause the slide. This is the case by default for click boxes (at the end of their duration, their timeline), for shape buttons you have to tell them to pause in the Timing accordion. In your case I certainly would choose a shape button because they can be put on a master slide, or timed for the rest of the project whereas Click boxes need to be unique on each slide, you'l have a lot of copy/paste to do then. In the Action accordion, On Success you choose the action, I think in this case you want 'Go to Next Slide' for the Next 'thing'
As for the first screenshot, Rod explained that you cannot get rid of the play button for pdf output, but you can have a poster image instead of the blank screen. There is a folder icon in Preferences, Project, Start and End when you deselect AuotPlay.
Here is a link to an article where I explain shape buttons:

There is an on-demand webinar as well on the Adobe site which I presented, only about shape buttons.

  • How do I stop the Cp from advancing automatically to the next slide?

I'm using Windows NT and Adobe Captivate 4.
Until now, I've been creating demos in Cp4 where the movie file just continues to the next slide automatically.  Now I'm making the Cp files more interactive and would like to know how to make the movie not advance to the next screen automatically.  In other words, I'd like the user to have to click the Next button to move to the next slide.
    Thank you.

    Hi there
You do this by inserting a Click Box or a Button object on each slide. Either of these objects will typically pause the slide until clicking the object or another action makes it proceed.
