Revision D Logic Board?

I've been having problems with my MacBook Pro for quite a while now. I've been in to see 3 different Mac "Geniuses" and they haven't been very helpful at all. Supposedly a Revision D Logic Board exists for MacBook Pro's with my serial number (starting with W8611), and would correct the problems that I'm having, but the geniuses refuse to acknowledge anything about it, and wont tell me how to proceed.
I've tried resetting the PRAM and SMC, and I've verified the permissions in the Disk Utility and nothing has helped!
What can I do???
Stuck with a crappy comp,

Hi Jay,
Your signature says you are running 10.4.8. It that correct? If so, apply the combo updater. Apply it even if you hav already updated to 10.4.9. through Software Update. See if this resolves any issues. Here is the link.
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1049comboupdateintel.html
After installing the combo update, run Software Update to see if you have other updates to install. Remember some of these updates will cause your computer to restart twice. Don't let this scare you.
Also, Repair Permissions after all the updates. Disk Utility is located in Applications-Utilities.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh17.html
Then I would like you to do a PMU reset, and PRAM reset. When resetting PRAM let it chime four or more times even though Apple says twice. Here are instructions....

  • Identify logic board revision (without GPU issue)

    Hello!
I am participant of this program https://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/
Few days ago I've got from apple authorized service repaired macbook pro late 2011 md318 a1286.
I have small reason to believe that its not new revision of logic board, just a board from other old macbook.
How can I identify that this is new version of logic board without gpu issue.
    Thanks a lot.

It doesn't look like brand new. May Apple send refurbished logic board to Authorized Service?

  • How Do You Identify Logic board revisions for MDD FW800?

I have a logicboard, the CPU board, and the heatsink for a PowerMac G4 MDD FW800 DP 1.25 that I want to sell, but I can't figure out what Revision it is (A, B, C) or if it is 133MHz or 167MHz. I do not have the computer (bought for parts) they came from anymore but I have my own MDD FW800 DP1.25 I could consult. Logic boards, I'm discovfering, don't make for easy reading--can anyone assist or point me to a "Logic Boards 101" text?

    Hi-
The following should help to ID the logic board.
For the FW800 1 ghz board, the part is identified by looking at the serial # ON THE BOARD.
Look for one of the following code combinations in the
    last 4 digits of the serial # : NME,P2X,P3E,P3G,P3U,P7P,P8E,
    PFD,PFF,PFG,PFT
This would be the 133mhz model.
For FW800 multi processor boards, the part is identified by looking at the serial # ON THE BOARD.
Look for one of the following code combinations in the
    last 4 digits of the serial # : NMF,P2Y,P3F,P3H,P3V,P7Q,P8F,
    PFE,PFH,PFJ,PFU
This would be the 167mhz model.
For the MDD 167mhz, rev A, look for one of the following code combinations in the
last 4 digits of the serial # MXJ,ND0,ND9,NE2,NE8,NEV,NEX,NFA,NFG,
    NG1,NKT,NNR, NNS,NNW,NRC,NWK,P8S,PG2,PG3,PG4,PG5,PG6,PGI
For the MDD 133mhz, rev B, look for one of the following code combinations in the
    last 4 digits of the serial # : NF9,NG1,NNR,NRC,PG7
For the MDD 167mhz, rev. C, to determine which 167 MHz logic board is installed in the computer, check the AirPort Card connector at the edge of the board.
If there is a 2-pin fan connector on both sides of the AirPort Card
connector, it is rev.C. Otherwise use rev. A.
Look for one of the following code combinations in the
last 4 digits of the serial # :MXJ,ND0,ND9,NE2,NE8,NEV,NEX,
    NFA,NFG,NG1,NKT,NNR,NNS,NNW,NRC,NWK,P8S,PG2,PG3,
    PG4,PG5,PG6,PGI

  • Can you tell if your MacBook Pro has latest revision logic board??

is there any way to tell if your MacBook Pro has latest revision logic board??

I'm awaiting the same thing, also in the U.K. The service center told me that they've had many of these repairs, and that there is a substantial backorder for logic boards in the U.K. I was told that it could be 6-8 weeks, which is absolutely appalling. I think that's an intolerable amount of time to repair a brand new, quite expensive computer.

  • Is a new logic board revision confirmed? How to recognize it?

I have seen a lot of talk about a new logic board, and some sort of photo of a paper someone got describing that it required 1.0.4.6...
Is this really a new revision (which then fixes the whine and heat)?
How do you recognize it? I mean, does it have a name, or what do I tell the tech guys at my local service center here in Sweden?
Apple surely must have some stock of spare older logic boards left, and I really want to make sure that I won't receive one of those when I take my MBP in for service.

If your computer is still whining, then yes, you may absolutely be able to get your logic board replaced again. Your logic board was replaced once on March 29th but, as I now too can confirm, Apple released an even newer, revised logic board for the MacBook Pros during the last week of June.
If you are still experiencing the whine, call up AppleCare and simply be persistent and ask for a logic board replacement. If they say they don't know what you're talking about, simply tell them to look it up, as this is what I had to do. Once my Product Specialist sent an "escalation" to Engineering, he called me back within 2 business days and was able to directly confirm that there was a new logic board released recently, and we arranged to have my MBP sent in. And don't worry that your logic board was already replaced once. Mine too was replaced even more recently (end of May), but being as though this revision is very recent, it didn't matter. Just be polite but insist on getting a new logic board.
I however am still waiting on its return to verify whether or not my whine is gone. Turnaround time was amazing; MBP shipped overnight (over Thursday night, that is) and arrived at the repair depot yesterday morning and is on its way back to me as we speak! I should be able to report back on Monday afternoon...

  • Logic Board Replacement - Older or Newer Revision?

I recently took my 2008 MBP Unibody in for a checkup due to a few issues I was having and they have shipped it out to have the logic board replaced. However, I was wondering if they still keep logic boards from the very first MBP Unibody around or if I would perhaps be getting a newer revision?
My interest in this lies in that the first revision supported SATA 1.5 and I would love for my SSD to be better utilized with one of the newer revisions.
Any ideas or thoughts? Has anyone else has any experiences?

    Kitsune wrote:
That's all I was curious about was if they kept parts for older macbooks.
Yes, they do, up to a certain point. What that point is, I don't know, but I'm sure it's three years (AppleCare), and maybe a bit beyond.

  • Bad Logic Board on 17" 2ghz imac-3 days old

I just purchased (12/30) a 17" 2ghz refurb from apple and is now having the logic board replace at a local apple store. It took a bit longer to arrive due to the holidays. Out of the box everything was neatly packaged and appeared very clean and like new.
When I first started up right out of the box I immediately went through the apple setup assistant, ran the software updates, went to restart and nothing happened... no startup sound, black screen, glowing ambient light.... I unplugged the imac from the power strip, waited 1 minute, plugged it back in and it started up... so I thought everthing was fine...
Started some software installs, restarted and the same thing but the computer would not even restart after I plugged it from the powerstrip. I called Apple Support who was very helpful. They had me startup from the Apple Hardware Test CD and everything passed so I was asked to take the imac to a local Apple store to reset the PMU which involved taking the back of the imac off. The Apple Support Rep offered to help me over the phone but I felt more compfortable bringing it to the Apple Store. After the PMU was reset we performed multiple restrts with no problems so I took my imac home.
The following day I tried opening folder or a cd on the desktop and as soon as I double-clicked the folder or icon it would immediately close without diplaying the contents of the folder. I then did a fresh install of the OSX Tiger (archive & install) and I was the able to the open the items I having problems with. Proceeded to update my imac with the software updates -restarted-and no startup sound, black screen, no video. Unplugged it from the power cord and same no startup.
I took it immediately back to the Apple Store and the informed me the Logic Board had to be replaced... $850.00. I am defintiely purchasing the Apple Care for piece of mind. At the Apple Store they were very helpful and friendly. They said I should have my imac back in a week but I'll wait and see. If I dont hear anything by the middle of the week they said I should call.
Has anyone experienced these problems or sympthoms? Thank You for any replies.

Just to clarify. The rev Bs had same probs. And many rev Bs fall in that range as they are considered rev A having used the same internal components. What also is worth noting. The rev A and Bs use the same internal structure and placement of components. (They are arranged same way.) Which IMO is the problem. The Rev Cs (the newest ones) have been completely redone as well as adding a vent behind the support arm the size of a silver dollar.
They really learned a huge lesson on how to keep these cool. The first 2 revisions had all the heat generating components at the bottom of the case. bad placement for these things as they "marinate" the entire Mb, Hd, and Optical drive. The rev Cs are flipped around so all heat generating components are at the top of the case, nearest the vents. The fans also blow in a different pattern across the MB.
heres a pic of the two different set ups for comparison.

*Also heres a pic and story of how they rearranged the internals.
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/imacisight_internals/imac_g5_isightinside.html
Enjoy. And know what youre getting into with ANY rev A and B because its not entirely components that make them garbage. Its HOW they are assembled. they will fail, its a mathematical certainly. heat is the most incideous thing for a computer. The rev As and Bs just arent arranged in such a way internally that the fans could ever keep them adequately cool. Again, after all Ive read and experienced first hand this is my opinion only.

  • Refused Logic Board Replacement?

I was wondering if anyone sent in their MBP 15" to replace the logic board to get rid of the whine and was DENIED of that service? Thanks. Also, what are the chances they will wipe your HD?

You can't really request for them to replace the logic board, but if you have enough issues that makes it sound like the logic board needs to be replaced then I don't think you'll have any problems. For me, I complained that the computer was too hot to comfortably type on and that it had just crashed that same day I brought it in to the Genius bar. I implied that the crash was heat related (I thought it was) but when the Geniuses tested it at the store, the computer never felt uncomfortable. Nonetheless, they still obliged and sent the computer in. The repair center replaced the Logic Board with the new revision and, like others have said, it works well.
Secondly, my 2 experiences with Apple repairs have been that they won't wipe your HD for a Logic Board replacement. Instead, they'll almost always perform an archive and install of OS X.

I was told by a seller in German store that Rev.E solves the whine and heat problems.

What does it mean? Is it the newest one?

I don't think anyone's English is good enough to understand what he wrote. It seems like he's being a bit of a jerk - as they say in American and if he was any sort of man he'd apologise. He's just making fun of the fact that you are not a native English speaker, but you should see and hear some of the horrible things they do to the English language in America so I wouldn't worry about it or him.
Your original post was fine and quite understandable. Sorry I can't answer your question about the latest logic board revision, but hopefully it will be the latest and best.
    Best of luck.

  • New MBP logic board and wireless internet does not work anymore

    hi there
i had to change the logic board in my only 2 years old MBP15". i purchased a new one and put it in by myself (relatively easy task). i still use the same internal HD as this one still works fine, so all data are the same.
however, the new logic board has obviously a different "identity" from my old one, it came with a sticker which says "ethernet ID 001FF3513E7A" which is different from before. this may be the reason i can still access my wireless network at home, but the self assigned IP address prevents me from connecting to the internet. all settings are as before and it worked always without a problem.
all settings were "automatic" before (using DHCP), and i use exactly the same settings again, but no success. i have to add that i use a new mac mini in the same network with absolutely identical settings (automatic) and this one receives a free IP address from the router (which is only in the last number different from the router's), but the MBP shows a totally different IP address.
i could finally fix it switching to "manual" and adding the same IP address the mini is using and just changed the last number, which has to be different from the time capsule i use as wireless device and the mini. like this everything works just fine.
but why does the mac mini perform everything automatic and the MBP (even with the new ethernet ID - and especially since i connect wireless and not using ethernet) is not able to do so?
i worry if i want to use the internet in any wifi hot spot i may run into troubles...
any idea what the difference between these two machines (with identical settings) is?
    thanks and cheers

Thank you. It didn't work unfortunately :((

Now it doesn't even find the wireless network anymore...
My computer and itouch are connected to WAP, but the iphone could not connect to WAP, but only WEP.
    Any other ideas?

  • Has the NVidia GeForce 8600M GT logic board replacement program been extended by a year?

I have heard that the logic board replacement program for MacBooks Pro with the failed NVidia 8600M GT chip has been extended from 3 to 4 years after the date of original purchase. • IPhone 5S 32GB Logic Board Repair

So several months ago I attempted to repair the cracked screen on my black 32 gb iphone 5S on my own. It did not work out. I ended up breaking the logic board and now the phone is basically unusable. I've been using my iPhone 4S for the past few months and it ***** so bad. I just want my 5S back but now apple won't touch it and no one offers repairs for the logic boards on the 5S that I can find. Anyone know of a solution or someone who offers the service. Because I can't stand the crap battery on the 4S and I miss my 5S I had only had it for like, 2 months.

I know of 2 services that repair logic board damage depending on your issue and your location in the U.S. One is eDigitalNY which is on the east coast and offers their repair services on eBay in addition to their website. They guarantee their repair work. Just ship them the logic board (shipping to and from is included in the repair cost) and they will fix it. If for some reason your board is "toast" and can't be fixed, they will refund your money. The second option on the west coast is The Repair Stop. Like eDNY, all repair work is guaranteed. TRS is a bit pricier but they are the go to guys for water damage repair, an area of repair from which many others shy away.

  • Problem with Logic Board in a Macbook Pro 15" 2011 in Argentina

Hi I am from Argentina and I am reporting a problem I've had a few weeks ago:
I was working with my computer (MacBook Pro 15 inch Late 2011) and it suddenly stopped working; the screen was frozen. I proceeded to restart it, but it couldn't enter the operative system, showing a gray screen.
Given this huge problem, I took my MacBook Pro to an authorized support centre in my country (Mac Station, 1184 Ayacucho , Buenos Aires - Argentina). The people there told me that the Logic Board was damaged. For this reason they set a budget of 2.440 dollars for the replacement part – plus the installation cost of 120 dollars. They were trying to charge me the equivalent to a new MacBook Pro model MGXC2LL/A purchased in the USA.
On the web it is documented that the 2011 MacBook Pro has recurrent failures on the Logic Board. How can it be that the total cost of repair in my country is five times the cost of repairing it in the United States? I think their official resellers in Argentina are taking advantage of us.
How I can get in touch with Apple support or someone who can give me a reason for that cost? Can I recieve official Apple answer in this comunity?
In advance: I haven't got Apple Care because Official Reseller from Argentina said me that Apple had discontinued in South America.

Thanks muchly will check it out now.

  • How's your Mid 2010 MacBook Pro doing after changing logic board due to BSoD?

    After this very long discussion:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15665312#15665312
In which a lot of people had BSoD problems after upgrading to Lion, and then have solved the issue by having the logic board replaced, I'd like to ask, specially for those who have done it earlier, a few months ago or so: did you have any problem with your 2010 MacBook Pro 15" since then?
I'd like to know it because, by reading that thread, I have reasons to believe that the problem may arise again after some time.
I had the same issue with my MBP, but I'm still on Snow Leopard. I had the logic board replaced more than once (actually 3 times), and everything is ok since then.
Now I've been pushed to upgrade to Lion so that I can continue using iCloud. So i'd like to know what are my chances of going into that nightmare again.
    Any info will be appreciated.

    Greetings,
I've never heard of this issue - I have two MBP Mid 2010, and both are running Lion with all updates, and there are no issues of any kind. One of the graphic shops I work with has 15 Mid 2010 MBP, all running Lion, and there are no isues with them.
We use a lot of high end software, but no games, of course, just business and graphics apps. There have been no issues with Mail, Calendars, Addressbooks, etc, except for wanting a few more features, here and there,
which we will get in time.
Bad apps are the usual culprit, when there are problems with Macs, and they are not always easy to locate, so I just reload from scratch, and thet will usualy fix a lot of ills, if the normal troubleshooting tools don't resolve the problem. Fortunately we have had very very few issues with our Macs going back to the late 90s, and earlier - they just work, and work.
Try a reload if you have troubles.
    Cheers,
    M.

  • Mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15" 2.8 GHz Logic Board Part Number

    Hi all,
I have been searching for a few hours trying to find the part number for the logic board one of my MBPs.  I, unfortunately, have the Mid-2010 15" MBP with the bad GPU that results in endless kernel panics.  (I also had the first Pentium chip, the pentium 60 with the floating point error in 1995 too).  I upgraded the MBP to the 2.8 GHz, core i7 (2 core) processor when I ordered it in 2010.
Anyway, the apple tech guide exploded view does not show the part number for the 2.8 GHz.  It only shows the part numbers for the other 3 configurations - 2.4, 2.53 and 2.66.  I took the cover and discovered my my EEE code is "QAG".
I have just started trying to figure this issue out (too much time has passed and Apple will charge me to fix).  I want to try and find a replacement logic board and do it myself.   Does anyone have an idea what my part number is for the logic board?  None of the sites I searched have a 2.8 GHz board listed just 2.66.
An alternative question - In my PC building days, some motherboards were compatible with multiple speeds of main processors.  My computer model number
    MC373LL/A
is the same as the 2.66GHz model.  Does the 2.66 GHz logic board support the 2.8 core i7 too?  I don't want to screw up and order the wrong part.
    OSX Yosemite is installed.
    Thanks,
    Tony
