Revisit Old Color Problem: PDF export

Hello,
I found two archived threads about the same problem, but I don't see a real fix aside from a bootstrap.  In Keynote, when I "duplicate" a slide that has certain colors on it and then edit the copy, the exported to PDF has some of the colors changed on the duplicated slide, but not on the original. If the the slides are opened in Preview they look correct, but when opened in other PDF viewers the colors change.
I have an example to show where the bright green changes, but I don't see where I can append it.  The first slide was dupliucated, the text and slide content edited, and then exported ->PDF -> Best.
Do I have to open all of my exports in Preview and then re-save them?  This has been occuring for years.

Alright, this is what has worked for me.
First to answer the question whether to use "Export to pdf" or "Print->PDF->Save as PDF" or "Save as PostScript" – I prefer the "Export" option for one reason: this method is the most accurate when it comes to object coordinates (images, lines, etc) AND custom slide sizes, while saving as PostScript is very cumbersome, especially when it comes to very custom, pixel-based slide sizes.
Anyway,
1. I have first exported the keynote presentation to pdf
2. opened it with Adobe Acrobat X (to witness false colors)
3. Now go to "Tools->Print Production->Convert Colors"
4. Ignore options, until the one which says "Output Intent" with a checkbox "Convert Colors to Output Intent". Select the profile "sRGB IEC61966-2.1"
5. Push OK.
6. [magic]
7. Profit
Hope it helps.
Cheers,

  • Colors problems with exporting

    I Use Lightroom 2.3 on a windows XP system. My computer has 2 XPs operating system. On my main active partition, the exported photos are bad in colors whatever the program i use to show them. Colors are fine in the Lightroom viewer. I use sRVB in lightroom's preferences. I have an N'vidia card, and use "color wizard" to etalonate my two screens.
    Both sceens render the same, (slight difference in contrast), greys are Ok from black to white on a internet chart. What can i do ?
    Also, This new lightroom is terrificly slow on my Athlon XP 3200+ and crashes sometimes, 1.4 was nice on this point of view.
    Attached, a screencopy of the two renderings: on the left the exported image, on the right the image seen in Lightroom.
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Thanks a lot, Dorin. I tried, but it does not change nothing.
    I'm using "ColorWizzard" witch is an independant program. What can i do, without his help to tune my screens ?
    I do not understand a single word of those color settings, how they work, how programs use them and wonder why they made that stuff so complicated.  I do not know what is the color setting is used and why Lightroom is not working like others...
    For the moment, i have erased all color profile: i have only one ICC profile: sRVB Color Space Profile. All other images  applications works (and worked before) ok with my settings except Lightroom.
    Please, explain me. I don't understand. i have calibrated my screens. I export for the web with SRGB color profile. Right ? What i see in lightroom is suposed to be seen across my calibrated screen. Right ? When it export he does not have to use any other profile ? The image i look at is seen across the same screen, right ? So what the hell is doing this expensive and $£µ§@# program ?
    [edit] i had tried a lot of random changes. Now i'm with two bad tuned screens (thanks Lightroom). But something is interesting. If i move any viewer with a photo inside, it is quite similar from one screen to an other. If i move lightroom, the image comes from normal to white key !
    Worse ans worse.

  • Problem printing pdfs exported from IDCS3 to hp color laserjet 2550L

    Since upgradingn to IDCS3, whenever I print a pdf exported from ID to my hp color laserjet 2550L, the graphics print with a red overlay and other colors change as well (black type prints brown, blue prints maroon). If I print the file to a .ps file, then distill it, I don't have the problem. If possible, I prefer to export because it's quicker. Is there a fix to this?
    Thanks in advance!

  • InDesign PDF Export Color Issues

    So I've encountered a frustrating problem that I know others have experienced. It involves the PDF export from InDesign where the PDF color is not matching the document view. It's a critical issue regarding soft proofs for designs where color needs to match the desired result. I never had any issues before but now it's kicked in after upgrading to Mountain Lion and CS6.
    Let me preface a few things first...
    Yes, I've callibrated my monitor
    Yes, Creative Suite color settings are in sync.
    Yes, I've tried the changing transparency blend space... makes no difference.
    In my case I have an RGB TIFF placed which has dark midnight blue to light blue tones. When I do an export and it doesn't matter what PDF settings I use the color shifts making it more purplish bllue and the lighter blue tones go away.
    BUT, when I export a JPEG, the JPEG looks PERFECT, just like it should and matches the document view.
    So I figured the problem must've been solved with the new Acrobat XI... I download the trial and installed it. I created a new PDF and it comes up looking like it should. GREAT, except for the price to update to Acrobat Pro XI!
    THEN, some message comes up about trusted certificates?! I click ok... and the color on the PDF goes wrong again! What is the problem with this CRAP? HOW DO I FIX THIS GARBAGE? Is it fixable on the old version (Acrobat X)?
    I've worked in Adobe products for years but they are going backwards and becoming more problematic by the day. Not to mention it's ridiculous to have to pay $200 to get a new version of Acrobat Pro after recently buying CS6. This is an insult to long time professional customers, you should be providing this update FREE to makeup for your broken, out of sync with Apple CRAP.

    Well any local application change to the color settings is going to show up out of sync
    All syncing does is match the application's Working CMYK and RGB settings, but the only case where a Working profile color manages a document is when the doc has no profile assignment. So if I sync to North American General my Working CMYK space is US SWOP, but if I open a document with US Sheetfed assigned, US Sheetfed manages the preview not US SWOP.
    I'm not saying you aren't experiencing a bug, but you have to be sure of what profile assignments or simulation profiles are driving the preview and syncing doesn't do that. How you export (are  you including profiles?, making a conversion?), and what device you are simulating in both programs can make syncing meaningless for existing document's previews.
    I can't test X but with XI if you export a PDF/X-4 (where there's no conversion and all profiles are included), the  preview with Output Preview closed shows RGB objects unchanged—same as ID with Overprint/Sep Preview Off.
    When I open Output Preview the initial Simulation profile is the PDF/X-4 output intent which is the ID doc's assigned profile, in that case  RGB objects preview in the output intent's CMYK space—same as ID with Overprint on.

  • StarOffice 8 (Update 9) PDF Export problems

    I am using StarOffice 8 prupdate 9. I have been trying to export in PDF but I notived the following problems:
    1) When an 'area' (eg a basic shape) is filled with a color that is the same as the outline color BUT at a transparency level (say 50%) PDF exports this filled area with the same color as the outline and NO transparency.
    2) When I use connectors or Bezier curves, the bounding box of the curve overwrites whatever lies behind it.
    On the screen, none of the above problems are visible, just when I export to PDF.
    Any suggestions?
    thanks ....
    Michael

    Had to back out the patch. As soon as I did that, the spreadsheets all came back to normal. I don't have a StarOffice support contract, so I can't alert Sun to the problem that way. Not sure if Sun people ever read this, is there a bugreport address I can send the info to?

    Hello, i have one question. Please help me with indesign... i have prepared photoshop document with pantone color in channel pallete... This photoshop file i have imported in indesign document and when i export it from indesign to pdf so color (pantone) overlay over cmyk... i have pantone color just for parcial paint not for proof for customer.

    I have maked a problem when i set the spot color in photoshop for parcial with some pantone pink color! and this was the problem! I haven't known that i can set white spot color (lab color) and use it in indesign invisible nad in exported pdf too!!! this is what i exactly want!

  • Why does text color change when exporting to PDF?

    I have a white background.  In a textbox, I have black text and white text.  When I export to a PDF, the black text stays black but the white text changes to black.  Any idea why that happens?
    I have a similar situation with shapes.  I have a black circle and a textbox on top of it.  There is white text in the textbox.  When I export, the white text here also changes to black.  So you can't see it in the PDF (becuase of the black circle).

    I do not get the problem.
    All text stays the correct color. Black is black and white is white in the pdf.
    Are you opening this on a Mac in Preview, or are you opening it in Adobe Acrobat?
    I have opened my .pdf (it would have helped if you had posted your problem pdf) in Acrobat on a Mac and that also has opened correctly.
    I tried both exporting and printing to .pdf both work in Preview and in Acrobat.
    Are you doing something else you have not told us about?

  • Who's in charge of pdf export: Dialog box or Color settings?

    Bridge has synchronized the color settings of all of my apps. But, I needed to export a pdf which uses different color settings. When I try to do so, I get this warning:
    The preset specifies source profiles that don't match the color settings file. Profiles specified by the color settings file will be used.
    So, who's in charge here? Why should a set of defaults override the specifics of this export? How do I get to be in charge?
    Thanks,
    Gary

    If you prepared the file for one print destination and the doc is going to different destination, you want to change the Destination Profile in the Advanced tab to the new CMYK profile and leave your document profile (source profile) alone.
    You shouldn't have any problem doing this at least in CS2 or 3. Just keep in mind the PDF will have new CMYK values, which would happen with any CMYK to CMYK conversion.
    If you are sending the file to a new destination and you don't want CMYK conversions, you have to assign new profiles to the document and that can't be done via PDF export, which makes sense because assigning a new profile may change the appearance of any document CMYK colors and you might want to make adjustments to those colors before exporting.
    Also, keep in mind if you are using the default Color Settings where the CMYK Policy is Preserve Embedded profiles, a CMYK profile is assigned to your document when it is made. In that case changing your color settings via Bridge has no effect on that particular document because it is the assigned profile which color manages not the new working space set in Color Settings. To change a document's assigned profile you have to use Edit>Assign Profiles... not Bridge.

  • Problem with PDF export and embedded font (characters disappear)

    Designer: Crystal Reports 2008 SP 2
    Engine: CR4E 2.0 SP2 (runtime_12.2.203)
    Hi there!
    we found a problem in the pdf export. It seems like there would be a problem with the embedded fonts, the problem is as follows:
    Rpt file with, for example only a text box which contains the german string " Änderungs Schlüssel ".
    Export the Rpt file with CR4E to a pdf file.
    When we open the pdf file in Adope Reader 8, the text appears to be correct,
    but if we print the PDF file from the Adope Reader, the text changes to " nderungs Schl sselu201C,
    here we are missing ther german umlaute.
    When we open the file for example with an alternative PDF reader like Foxit Reader, there they are also missing.
    After i found some posts here in the forum, there are people facing the same problem, since i couldn't find a solution in the forum, we build a little workaround for it that works for us.
    For all of you that have the same problem here the workaround:
    We used the IText JAVA library, this jar can can help as to fix the PDF file so the text is displayed correctly.
    Here the code:
    ReportClientDocument doc = new ReportClientDocument();
    doc.setReportAppServer(ReportClientDocument.inprocConnectionString);
    doc.open("C:\XY.rpt", OpenReportOptions._openAsReadOnly);
    //... database logon,.....
    InputStream inputStream = doc.getPrintOutputController().export(ReportExportFormat.PDF);
    inputStream = PDFHealer.heal(inputStream);
    //... write the stream some where

    The helper class using IText:
    import java.io.ByteArrayInputStream;
    import java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import java.io.InputStream;
    import com.lowagie.text.Document;

          try
             ByteArrayOutputStream out = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
             PdfReader reader = new PdfReader(in);
             // we retrieve the total number of pages
             int n = reader.getNumberOfPages();
             // step 1: creation of a document-object
             Document document = new Document();
             // step 2: we create a writer that listens to the document
             PdfWriter writer = PdfWriter.getInstance(document, out);
             // step 3: we open the document
             document.open();
             // step 4: we add content
             PdfContentByte cb = writer.getDirectContent();
             int i = 0;
             while( i < n )
                document.newPage();
                i++;
                PdfImportedPage page1 = writer.getImportedPage(reader, i);
                cb.addTemplate(page1, 0, 0);
             // step 5: we close the document
             document.close();
             ByteArrayInputStream ret = new ByteArrayInputStream(out.toByteArray());
             out.close();
             return ret;
          finally

  • PDF export problem in Pages/Keynote/Preview

    I am having some problems with PDF exports (and "Print as PDF")  from Pages (as well as Keynote and Preview).  Here is my situation:
    I am creating a PDF of a barchart+legend from the program Mathematica.  I suspect the way the exported PDF is formatted is that the chart and legend are two blocks within the PDF.  This PDF opens perfectly in Preview and Adobe Reader, and imports perfectly into Pages and Keynote.  However, when the Pages/Keynote document is exported to PDF or printed to PDF, the resulting file opens fine in Preview but not in either the Mac or Windows version of Adobe Reader (part or all of the image fails to appear with a generic "An error exists on this page, please contact the author of this document to correct this problem" error message).  This also happens with the PDF is exported/printed as PDF from Preview itself - the resulting file opens fine in Preview but not with Acrobat.
    Any suggestions?  While I could reconstruct the barcharts individually in Pages itself, for the sorts of documents I'm working on I could easily have dozens of PDFs to import for a single project, and it's much easier to export the files from Mathematica as the analysis is done than rebuild each one from scratch.

    As far as I know, there is no provision for such settings in these programs.
    Developer documentation for ICC colour management in Firefox 2, Firefox 3 and Firefox 3.5, see below. Firefox 3 has ICC colour management disabled by default. Firefox 3.5 has ICC colour management for images within which there is embedded an ICC source colour space profile. It is possible to set Firefox to colour manage the application windows as well as images with embedded ICC profiles. The developer documentation discusses how to do this in what sounds suspiciously like a command line / terminal tool, and also how to point Firefox 3.5 to the display profile. This in turn sounds suspiciously like Firefox 3.5 is unable to talk to the system level service and ask for the display profile automatically.
    Camino and Opera ... I'll pass. I suspect it's more of the same mess.

    How do I transfer Adobe PDF Export from my old laptop to my new one?

    Install it like you originally did.

  • Why can't I include a color profile when exporting to PDF?

    I've a basic RGB illustrator file - no embedded or linked images, just flat colors and gradients.
    I'm working in sRGB space and this is reported correctly in the info field at the lower left of the editing window.
    Some issues:
    1. When I look at this file in Bridge it's listed as 'untagged'.  However if I re-open it in illustrator it's reported to be sRGB as expected.
    What's broken here?
    ...and of more immediate concern:
    2. Despite requesting 'Include All Profiles' on the output page of the PDF save dialog I cannot get a PDF exported that includes the sRGB profile.
    Same issues in both CS6 and CC - Windows 7, 64.
    Thoughts, comments or suggestions welcomed....
    Thanks

    Your .pdf is fine, if you open the .pdf in illustrator, adn hten do edit >> assign profile, this radio biutton will bo on what the profile. Also in the bottom left of illustrator you can see what color profile your document is saved with, btuy turning that on.
    Hold down option adn you will get other fun easter egg options
    Bridge only seems to show profiles for certain bitmapped formats, except .psb format.

  • InDesign CS5.5 Problem - Crash during PDF export (Runtime Error)

    Hello,
    I'm working with Adobe CS5.5 and have a problem with the PDF-export of some of my projects.
    The problematic projects are rather big (44-124 pages) with lots of pictures.
    The error I get during export is:
    [Headline:] Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
    Runtime Error!
    Program: C:\...
    This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
    Please contact the application's support team for more information
    The program is not specified in the error.
    Export works fine for these files on my collegues computer with the same settings (hardware and software are almost a match).
    Microsoft Runtime Library was completely reinstalled without solving the problem.
    Any suggestions how to solve this problem?
    Thank you very much

  • Indesign CS5 - Problems with PDF-Export

    Hello community,
    we do have a problem with Indesign CS5 and exporting data into PDF. It is about that logo on that white surface, which doesnt come along with the rest after the pdf-export. What we did was: We created that white surface in Indesign itself, put an effect on it with the Indesign effect gallery and then imported the logo in the surface ... the logo itself is .psd data. So, if we export it into pdf like that, it is just dissapeared. Does anyone have had a similar problem and what can be done about it?
    By the way ... if you put, for example, a simple backgroundshadow on a picture ... done also with the Indesign effect gallery, then you get just a white surface instead of the shadow, after the export into pdf. It does maybe correlate with the other problem ... not sure. Any suggestions?
    Thank you very much for your help and kind regards ...

    I would create the entire logo, including the white background, in Illustrator, save as PDF and place that in ID.
