Reviving a broken G5

I've got a dual 1.8GHz G5 thats out of warranty and not quite functional. Its logic board has some bent pins on the main cpu socket, and I can't seem to get them bent into the right shape to work.
Its possible that one of the CPU's is flakey as well. I'm thinking of getting a uniprocessor replacement logic board and trying to revive it.
However, I wanted to make sure I got the right one (I think I need the 233mhz rather than the 167mhz, but not sure), and that the CPU's could be used one at a time with a replacement board.
Is there any other issues I should be worried about? I know the disassembly is fairly tricky, but I've managed to take it apart already and think I'm okay there...

I have a core 2 duo Macbook Pro which is nice but my girlfriend is always on it so I was thinking of reviving a broken Powerbook G4 1.5Ghz with 15.2” screen (the one with the variable backlit keyboard). I was wondering if anyone could comment if it was worth it and the best way to go about it. I am based in the UK so looking at UK sources for parts.
Basically the symptoms are:
1 – Trackpad dosent work 99% of the time unless your slam it hard. I tried to play with it but broke the plastic catch as well. Taped it up OK so the keyboard works but not the trackpad
2 – Dosent hold the time and date
3 – Main battery is nearly dead
4 – A number of the screws out of the side are missing
Can anyone suggest a good source for the main and time and date battery? What is the best way to fix the trackpad? I notice people occasionally sell the whole top section of the body with the keyboard, trackpad, speakers etc. Is this the same unit for the 1ghz, 1.25Ghz and my 1.5Ghz? Finally, does anyone know where to source the screws for the side of the body?
Any help would be appreciated. I would like to revive the machine as it is in a pretty sorry state but I think it could be salvageable.

i just bought a wireless router and i cannot get it to work. it is a wrt54g v6. the power light keeps flashing. I tried talking with linksys to get it fixed, but nothing is working. it says to disconnect from the modem and update my firmware, but i cant get the IP address to come up on the address bar. can someone please help me out.

If you have just bought the router and it has a flashing power light return the router. It is not worth trying to revive a broken router in that case. Return the router and get a properly working one. I would not want to start with a broker router even if you may be able to revive it. You'll never know what caused the problem and whether you will have more issues later.

If you take it to Apple, you'll get a replacement iPad, so all your files will be gone. Check with some of the 3rd party repair places below. They should be able to repair your iPad with the files intact.

HP Mini 5102 revival: Replacement HD and No CD Drive
The hard drive on my HP Mini 5102 Notebook went bad and I purchased a new one. I am trying to reinstall the Win 7 32-bit Home Premium OS and I have the HP Recovery CD that came with the notebook. Unfortunately, my notebook does not have a CD drive.
I have replaced the broken 160GB Drive with a 320GB drive and need to know the steps to bring my notebook back to life. I am afraid to simply turn it on with no software... what would happen if I did, would it recognize and allow me to format the hard drive? Any suggestions as how I should partition the new larger drive? Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks! Mark

All you need to do is to purchase an external DVD drive for $30.00 and boot from that.
If you turn your notebook on, it will just give an OS not found error, or some such error. You won't hurt it, but you can't format it or anything either because you have no OS to input commands. You at least need to have DOS for that.
There are ways to load W7 using a USB flash drive, but I am unfamilar with those. Google it if you want to try that route first.
Me? I'd go out and pick up a external DVD drive. You can use it anyway.

Broken Backlight, reactivated with a push to the screen.

After a speedy replacement of my old nano (half a broken screen); I received what looks like a brand new nano. Unfortunately, after taking the nano of hold the backlight didn't come on. I checked all the settings and was able to play songs. I decided to gently push the screen and was surprised to see the backlight come on as if the screen was a button itself. It has continued to do this all day. Once the backlight dims to the dark screen the only way to revive the backlight is to push the screen itself...
I'm guessing this isn’t normal but I thought I'd ask before I requested for another one.

Broken Ipod Symbol

My Ipod Color has been working fine for 2 years, recently I have been experiencing problems with it. At first it would just freeze, and I would have to reset it by pushing the menu button and the select button, but now when i try to turn it on, all it displays is a broken ipod symbol, and also a folder icon. 4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”

A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"

Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.

Given old broken ipod mini with new computer

my cousin had a broken ipod mini and she was given an ipod video. she gave me her old broken ipod mini and it was past her one year warranty. anytime i touch any button there is just the apple logo and a sad icon. i`ve tried going online to find a solution but i couldn`t fix it myself. i know what everyone would say, go to the store and fix it right? but i can`t, personal reasons. she gave me her ipod video iPod CD and i installed iTuens and QuickTime player. i plugged the ipod mini into my computer but it`s not there and it won`t charge. it won`t do anything and everytime i still press any button it shows the apple logo then a sad icon.

1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.

C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.

A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.

1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)

Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. I can hear my guitar and record with Audacity, but when jackd enter into the escenario everything blows up. I read that nowadays almost any sound card will work with QJackCtl with the default options. I play with the parameters and sometimes jack refuse to start. With the default options on i can make it run, but i get no sound of the racks or guitar effects processors neither the guitar tuners that use jack takes the sound from the guitar. My line input is in capture via alsamixer, but still no luck. Any clue on this? I'm skipping steps?

HT1688 I have a damaged I-Phone and I need the contents of my calendar off of it. I did not have Mobile me at the time. Can I swap out the sim card from the broken phone to a new phone and recover this calendar?

I have an older I-Phone (3G) that for some reason the body of the phone has split in two. This phone was a business phone and it had a lot of important information on it. I have a second phone that is also a 3G. On the broken phone there is a lot of important information that I need in my calendar. Im not worried about anything else but the calendar. I didn't have the Mobile Me account at that time or I would be having this problem. Does anybody know if I can ust switch out the sim cards. I just need to recover the old calendar, so im hoping that the calendar will transfer when I switch the sim card into the good 3G. If that doesn't work does anybody know of anyway that I can retrieve this information off of this phone?

Nothing is stored on the sim card on an iPhone. If you backed up to your computer the backup will contain your calendar events. Otherwise, if your phone isn't functioning there is no way to back up or extract your calendar at this point.

HT1384 My lock screen/power button on my iPod Touch is broken, and I need some assistance.

As the title suggests, I can not use the lock screen/power button on my iPod Touch, it is broken. I can use Adaptive Touch to turn the screen on and off at will, and also turn my device off. But if I turn it off, I don't know how to get it to turn back on. Could I just plug it into a charger and turn it back on, or would I need to plug it into my computer? Please help, in a few days I won't have access to it for 9 weeks, I need immediate help.

If you power off the iPod, it will turn back on if you connect it to a charger like a wall charger or a computer. I just checked with a charging source to confirm. I knew it did it with a computer.

if the computer your music library is synct with is broken how do y transfer your music on your iphone to a new itunes on a new computer

1. Disable automatic syncing on connection: iTunes Prefs > Devices > Disable....
2. Connect phone.
3. Right-click the device tab on left border of iTunes window and select "Transfer Purchases." This will transfer all iTunes store purchased music, media and apps to the iTunes library on the computer.
It won't transfer non-iTunes store music/media (i.e. CD's you ripped yourself) and these will get deleted from the phone when you sync. There are 3rd party apps for your computer which may be able to backup non-iTunes media on your phone. Google.

[LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276nw] only vertical lines when scanning, scanner broken?

Hi all! I have a problem with the scanner in my HP all in one. If I scan (using the printer function or apples ImageCapture: same result) the output is just a lot of vertical stripes (in colors when in color mode). Not a trace of the image I try to scan. The lines are there even if i scan an empty white page. I see the stripes both when doing a preview scan and an actual scan. The problems are very similar regardless of if I use the flatbed or the feeder scanner (they are separate scanner hardware, yes?). I have updated to the latest software for the printer/scanner and I am connecting over bonjour via wireless. I am on Os X 10.9.1. Anybody having similar problems or is my scanner just plain broken? , , I understand that both of you are seeing vertical lines when scanning from your Laserjet M276nw. First, make sure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a surge protector. Now, so I know where to begin I'd need to know the following:If you are seeing the vertical lines when you copy as well as scan?Are you seeing the vertical lines when you copy from the flatbed? The document feeder? both?If you are seeing the lines from both the flatbed and the feeder are they in the same place?Once I know this I'll be better able to assist you.
