Rewind live TV

Just got you view set up
Not clear if you can rewind a LIVE TV programme back to the "start" or just the last minute
I have tried all the relevant buttons and all that happens is it jumps back approx 1 minute and starts again

One thing that was better with old silver Vision box was that the if you pressed "record" during a programme, the recording would go back to the start of the current programme (provided that you'd been tuned in since the start, of course) - rather than the Youview tactic of picking up from the moment you pressed record.
A simple tweak, but so useful when you have got it.
(e.g. when watching a late night film and deciding to record it for another day - much better to have the whole film.)

  • Unable to pause and/or rewind live TV

Why can't we rewind/pause live TV any longer?  This just started late last week.  We get a message that states "Unable to rewind live TV at this time.  Please try again."  This has been going on for nearly a week now.   Thoughts on how to fix this?  Thanks

There is a very short period of time when starting a new channel that it will not work. But, you are talking later, after it is available.
If this is on other than the actual DVR - Try a whole house reboot to synch everything. Pull power on all boxes.
Restart RG - wait for all green
Restart DVR - wait for viewing.
    Restart all others.
If it is happening on the DVR , do just the DVR.
After that you may need a new DVR.

  • Unable to pause/rewind live TV

Can anyone help? Since the last software update I can't pause or rewind live TV.  Its OK on the recorded one. Any clues?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is a wee bug with the current software which means if you take the Try Again option the box forgets how to do trick play. The workround is always to take the Recorded TV option and use the exit key on the remote to get rid of the recordings screen. If you've already used Try Again your ability to use trick play will return after the next attempted or successful channel change provided you don't use Try Again again. No need to reboot in this case.

  • Anyone else haveing trouble pausing and rewinding live TV???

This is very frustrating, seems to be HD more than anything, you hit pause and 30 seconds later it pauses then try to rewind and it takes a minute to rewind about 10 seconds. I'm not new to this, there is a decent buffer when I try this and I have reset the receiver, to no avail. this has been an ongoing problem for a while now and is very disappointing especially during NFL playoffs and especially since Verizon is charging us money to do just this. Verizon, don’t advertise being able to pause and rewind Live TV when we cant and don’t charge us for it, THIS NEEDS TO GET FIXED!!!

the pause and rw functions work fine. If you are having a problem with it, call tech support. Think about it, if there were problems with the funtions, Verizon would not be able to rent DVR's. While the DVR's do have some problems, the storage is too small, there are issues with the HDMI cables, the guide is frequently wrong, and the multiroom functions can be a bit flaky but the basic functions work normally.
Before calling tech support you can try this...
    go to menu--->settings--->system information
when on the system information screen type these codes....
8888            this will flush crash logs that may be filling up the memory
2617            this will clear the nvmem
2601            this will reboot the stb
There are other codes but I've found that whenever my stb starts acting up, these 3 in this order will fix the issue. cant hurt to try.

  • Can't Pause or Rewind Live TV

That doesn't work on my box. I still get the circle with a line through it.
Adding to what Robert suggested, you need to access what you want to pause etc, through your recordings, not while you watch it live

Yes, I perceived that the new X1 system would have all the capabilities of my old Comcast system and maybe a few new ones.  My mistake.(skip this post if you are not into technical details of cable provider equipment) The statement 'stbs were never...' was incorrect when including the xi3 (newest stb). Added to the replies for clarity. Comcast has prominently promoted the xi3 as its newest set top box (stb). The apparent reason for the xi3 design is specifically to allow local stored video (SD Ram card) from live TV to be easily and quickly 'trick-played' of the STBs RAM buffer. Indeed, the xi3 is running as an approved exception to the FCC requirement of mandating a cable-card device as it does not contain any (none at all) cablecard instead relying on IP-only access to a designated gateway. In the current configuration as described to us on other threads, one tuner is used out of the available ones in local DVR(s). That is not the industry 'design' just one implementation of using a gateway (again in this case one of the local DVRs). However the real design is to put the gateway used in (part of) the modem/gateway device and entirely remove, it seems, all local Hard Drive based equipment opting instead to record in the cloud and watch locally. Time will tell (2-3 years maybe) what comcast does with it. In my opinion, since DVRs specifically are a 'loss' subsidized by comcast (meaning that entire cost all-in of providing the functions and equipment of a DVR is not being recovered as a revenue stream from us) that their goal is to move that 'loss' to a non-cost cloud solution. Basically comcast has already done the same for their headends as they have moved most of what  a head-end does to the comcast server cloud (too) aka head-end in the sky. I know that this is highly technical but lots of people (contributors) here are technical and more info is better than no info. Yes, and I do know that for whatever reason comcast has turned-off that design feature or has accidently set the TSB Enable Status to False, OR changed Max Duration of TSB to 0 minutes (TSB = time shift buffer). It also is currently unknown to us the size of the removable SD card in GB that is provided with the xi3.

  • Cannot use rewind on some live channels that I've benn watching

I noticed that with the recent update, I cannot rewind on live channels such as Cinemax, even though I've watching them for several minutes.
Is there something wrong with my DVR config or a new restrictive feature has been implemented for some chNnels?

You should always be able to rewind live TV. Please reboot your box by unplugging the power cord for 1 minute. If that doesn't fix it, please send me a private message so I can help.

  • Rewind/Pause/etc... stop working.

I just signed up for Xfinity X1 service and had it installed earlier this month.  I have 3 boxes.  One main box (Model PC PX013ANC - with the clock on it) on the main floor, and then 2 model PC PX032ANI boxes, one upstairs and one in the finished basement.  Everything was working fine until about 1 week ago.  The box in the bedroom will stop allowing me to pause or rewind live tv.  When I try to use these functions, a message appears saying that the function is not available.  If I restart the box, it goes back to normal and I am able to pause and rewind again.  Then it will go back to showing that the function isn't available.  The issue seems to occur after 8pm at night, although that is the only time that box is used.  I haven't had an issue with the other boxes yet.  I have also noticed that, around the same time, there are major issues with the on-demand programming and if i'm trying to watch something, it will play for a few minutes and then go back to live TV with no explanation.  Can anyone help with these 2 issues?  It is very frustrating and may force me to cancel my service with Xfinity.

  • Rewinding or FFWDing Media Center TV sometimes results in TV Window blacking and loss of audio

I recently reinstalled Win 7 SP 1 Home Premium 32 bit and I'm still experiencing the subject problem that prompted the reinstall.
I'll be watching live TV with no problems and then decide to rewind a bit by clicking the rewind button a few times (the more times I click and the more rapidly, the more likely this problem seems to occurr) and the Media Center TV screen/window will sometimes
'smoothly' go black also sometimes with a loss of audio. The timer shows TV playback is still occurring and then after a while - 5 ~20 seconds, the picture and then eventually, the sound, return. This occurs both in Windowed or Full Screen TV viewing.
    My system details are:
Intel DG45ID Motherboard with E8500 Core2 Duo 3.16 GHz CPU and using onboard G45 Graphics
    4 GB (2 x 2GB) of compatible Corsair DDR2 RAM
Compro Technology E900F TV Card (receiving just DVB-T UK Freeview broadcasts)
4 x 1 TB Samsung HDDs configured in a 2 TB RAID 0+1 Array using native board functionality
All the latest drivers are installed correctly - chipset, TV card, Grahics, Audio and Intel RST as well as ME software etc. I've also tested with both Playready installed and not installed - with no difference.
Does anyone know whats causing this or workarounds to cure it please?

    Hello Niki,
Many thanks for your reply and that very interesting link. I've reviewed that workaround more deeply and it seems to stop the screen blacking/loss of audio problem but according to one of the threads that it originated from here:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_other-tv/losing-soundpicture-when-rewinding-live-tv-in/6e0f575a-4bed-4248-9cac-a6392b7b6d16 , the 'fix' also disables MHEG 5 Functionality, which for me, as a UK user of the BBC Red Button and other
interactive services, is NOT acceptable. The BBC have recently ceased their Ceefax (Teletext) service which has been superceded by the red button MHEG-5 based service so bug free MHEG-5 is our only option.
I see that the other thread I linked to has had no official comment from Microsoft - as a Moderator here (clearly someone with connections/influence at Microsoft to at least some degree) will you kindly pass this up the chain to be fully and properly addressed
please Niki? Otherwise maybe someone who is responsible for this field at Microsoft would care to comment here (and over on that other Microsoft thread that's been awaiting their input for some time)??
    I realise that
MHEG 5 , despite being an international standard, isn't utilised all around the world (notably not in the USA) so I hope this doesn't affect Microsofts prioritisation of providing a proper fix to this issue.

  • Wireless receiver gets live TV but cannot see DVR

I have a wireless TV receivers.  It works normally except it is unable to connect to the DVR receiver: when I try to pause, it says "Pause is not available.  The DVR is currently unplugged or restarting".  I can schedule a recording, however I cannot view the recordings or pause/rewind live TV.  The default gateway reported in Network Settings indicates that the receiver may be connected to the wrong access point - it receives U-Verse from the generic WAP, an Linksys E1200 rather than from the U-Verse WAP.  How do I get the receiver to connect to the U-Verse WAP?

  • Pause / Rewind is unavailable on this channel

Since we have received the new software download, at the end of June, (TVclient version: 2.0.26479.145) that includes the addition of iplayer we are no longer able to use the pause or rewind live TV, a message on an orange background states 'Pause is not available on this channel' or 'Rewind is not available on this channel' has anybody else experienced this annoyance or offer an explanation. Other than this thank you for the iplayer and the other goodies like recorded programme 4 x super fast forward, and multiple programme recorded deletion in a single button press.

  • New to FIOS with several video issues

I switched to FIOS from Comcast four days ago and now have several intermittent video and guide issues I never experienced with Comcast. I've read many posts about the new firmware (1.7) which is rolling out this month, and was hoping to get some clarification on whether these issues are addressed with the update. Sorry if I am re-hashing issues already discussed,  but I just want to be sure I'm dealing with the same problems as everyone else. The 2 STBs I have are the 7216 and the 7100. Both are connected via HDMI and both are v. 1.6.2.
    Issues on both STBs
    - Video and audio drops out for a second on HD channels, just a black screen. This occurs sometimes when switching to another channel, and usually does not recover unless I switch to another channel then back to it.
    - When switching channels, the channel does not change, even though info bar does change and shows the desired channel (if I switch back and forth between channels it will eventually switch correctly. This issue can occur using the Channel up-down button, the "Last" button, or using the number keypad.) Also, the opposite sometimes occurs - the channel changes, but the info bar takes several seconds to catch up.
    DVR (7216) only issues
    - Pixelation when trying to rewind live video (video remains live but corruption occurs llike it is trying to rewind) . Going to another channel and then back usually makes normal rewinding possible.
    - Signal drops when playing a recorded program (no audio and snow for a second or two). However, it is not the recording itself since it does not occur in the same place if you rewind the recording and play it again. This is almost the same kind of drop mentioned above, but there is snow instead of a blank screen.
I'm debating on going back to Comcast. I love the FIOS features, the extra HD channels, and the deal I got with Verizon, but it is all useless without stable performance.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated. -Mike

Update: Switched from hdmi to component cables and this seems to have corrected the video and audio drops both on live TV and DVR playback. No noticable difference in picture quality. Still sometimes get a very short skip, especially the audio right after changing channels, but nothing significant and no more than what I experienced with Comcast (probably would not have even noticed if I didn't experience the bigger problem).
Still experiencing the same intermittent bugs when changing channels. The 7216 STB doesn't always change channels, although the info bar reflects the switch. The 7100 is the opposite - channel changes but info bar has long delay. Also on the 7216, still have issues backing up live video. It appears that the buffer becomes corrupt now and then. Could just be a bad drive which may be causing the channel changing issue as well. Resetting the STBs and router had no effect.
I should be getting 1.7 update soon and will see if this corrects any of these issues. I will also switch back to HDMI after the update and will post my findings
Most of what you described are supposed to be fixed with 1.7. And as you saw most of it was fixed by switching to the component cables. Those items that are fixed by this are the ones that are being focused on with the 1.7
However, the problem with the info bar not changing in a timely manner. This will likely not be fixed. Those that already have 1.7 still have this issue. Also I've noticed lately that both my DTV DVR and my TIVO are both starting to do the same thing as my 6416 Verizon. (I have DTV with Tivo at another location). All three DVR's on two different companies are doing the same delay of 3-5 seconds when changing channels before the info bar changes. I watch the boards here and dont see any solutions and both DTV and TIVO said it is just a delay in the software on the DVR and that there is nothing they can do about it. It sounded like a cop out but since it is happening with 3 differnt manufactures and on two different companies, I'm not sure where to put the blame on this one.
the short skip that you see when changing channels is normal. usually this is when the resolution of the program changes especially when going from SD to HD. I've seen this on every digital system I've ever used. Dont think this is anything to be conserned about.
The problem with the box not changing channels. This is another story all together. This is one to be worried about and work on correcting. Does it only happen when using the remote? what if you use the channel up and down on the box itself? will it do the same with the other remote from the other box? Have you tried calling TS and had them reset the box yet?

  • Multiroom DVR does not work as expected.

     Short description of my problem:
I can't use the multiroom DVR with the SD receiver I was sent nor another DVR. This leaves me only one option, an HD receiver which costs me more per month but does not give me any other added benefits.
    Long description:
I recently ordered FIOS TV. I was drawn in by the multiroom DVR. I was a DirecTV customer for over 7 years and never had a problem with them (never lost signal in a storm either...). I got an ad that said I could get a free multiroom DVR, which is $19 a month, free for life. With my DirecTV setup, I had a DVR connected to both TVs in my house. I thought it might be nice to watch a recorded show at either one instead of having to watch it on the DVR it was recorded on.
After a frustrating experience with tech support, I finally had my multiroom DVR and standard set top box activated. I recorded something on the DVR and went upstairs to try and watch it. To my surprise, I found out that I could not. I had recorded it in HD and the receiver that had been supplied to me was an SD receiver. At this point I found it stupid that if I wanted to be able to watch a show at both locations, I either had to record it in SD, which looks like crap on an HDTV, or record it in both HD and SD which would use up both of my recording channels for one show. I know that I can upgrade to a HD receiver and watch it on both sets, but if I am going to pay more (just to make something work that was supposed to work for "free"), I might as well pay a little bit extra and get another DVR. I really liked being able to pause and rewind live TV at both locations.
I called sales to place an order for another DVR. Surprise again, a multiroom DVR will not stream to another DVR. So my only option is to have an HD receiver if I want to be able to use the multiroom DVR and not lose functionality. As a result, I have lost 2 channels of recording because I have one less DVR than I used to, and I can no longer pause live TV at one of my TVs. I don't think that is worth the $10 ($19 - $8 for an HD receiver) a month.

    Justin,
Thank you for the reply.  I am in western PA but can't check my DVR for the version until I get home.
Can you please elaborate what you mean by "and as an aside, if you have QIP6416 DVRs and/or the QIP2500 SD STB, you will not be happy with 1.9 on any of those boxes."  I'm not sure what kind of receivers I have off hand.
If I can get two DVRs to work with each other I would be ecstatic!!!  Thanks again for the info.
You obviously have internet access, you can't use the internet to view what STBs you have in your account? If you do that, it will show you the model numbers of each of your STBs.
But anyway, the 6xxx boxes are the old original STBs that Verizon delivered for FiOS TV starting 6 years ago. They worked fine with all levels of the IMG up through 1.8 (I had one for 5 1/2 years, got rid of it earlier this year, replaced it with a 7232). With the new 1.9 level, the 6xxx and 2500 boxes perform very poorly, they just do not have the processor, graphics processor, memory (and for the 6xxx boxes, an eSATA port) to support the new HD graphics and things like an external hard drive. So your Guide will still be SD, it will be somewhat hard to read, the boxes will be slow, slow, slow, etc.
As I said, two DVRs most certainly can work together with 1.9. That feature is called Multi-Hub, it is free, just needs to be turned on on the DVRs. Allows you to access, schedule, and delete recordings on either DVR from other STBs as well as the DVRs themselves.
A simple way to tell if you already have 1.9 is to look at the Guide and if it has the light blue/gray background it is 1.9.
If you still have the two DVRs but not yet 1.9, I suggest you just keep them (unless they are 6xxx boxes), the new support should be available to you soon.
Edit: Just had a thought, I know Verizon also uses Cisco STBs in some areas. I have no idea whether they do where you are, but it is possible that that is what you have. If so, I think they have an older version of 1.9 that does not yet support some of the features that the 1.9 for Motorola boxes has. Not sure which features.....

  • Multi-Room DVR Questions - switching to Fios

I am getting ready to make the switch to Verizon Fios and have lots of questions.
I am going to get  a Multi-Room DVR and either 2 or 3 set-top boxes.
    I have 4 tv's:  A -Main (Living room) TV is STD-Def,  B - Bedroom TV  is Hi-Def 1080p,  C - Bedroom TV is 720P, D - Other TV - STD Def .
    1. Does it matter which TV I hook up the Multi-Room DVR to?
    2. Can I record in STD-Def and then  play back on the Hi-Def TV?
    3. Can  I record in Hi-Def and and then play back on the STD-Def TV?
    4.  Are the STB's the same for STD-Def and HD (in case I want to swich where I have the DVR)?
4a. If not, is ther a charge if I change the box from STD to HD?
    5. Will I be able to watch any channels on a TV that has no STB or DVR?
    6. What DVR functions are available on the STB's?
Play, Pause, FF, Rew? What about controlling the recording of shows?
    9. Is there a "higher capacity" Multi-room DVR, and how do I get one?
    7. What is the capacity of the multi-room DVR?

    1. Does it matter which TV I hook up the Multi-Room DVR to?  No it does not.
    2. Can I record in STD-Def and then  play back on the Hi-Def TV? Yes
    3. Can  I record in Hi-Def and and then play back on the STD-Def TV? Yes but will be in a smaller box in the middle of the screen
    4.  Are the STB's the same for STD-Def and HD (in case I want to swich where I have the DVR)? Verizon only uses HD boxes now and will work with SD televisions.  Verizon used to have SD boxes and last time I checked still had the basic SD terminal adapters -- these adapters do not support the guide or other expanding STB features including remote DVR access or on-Demand.
4a. If not, is ther a charge if I change the box from STD to HD? N/A
    5. Will I be able to watch any channels on a TV that has no STB or DVR? If your TV has a QAM digital tuner you can watch the local stations only (channels 2-49)
    6. What DVR functions are available on the STB's? You can pause and rewind live TV. You can set up a schedule to record all your favorite shows in advance so you don't have to set it back up every week. You can extend recording at the begining or end of show. You can set priority of shows incase there is a scheduling conflict. You can set a show to be protected so its only erased if you manually erase it. You can set how many episodes to keep. You can set whether to record either new episodes, repeats, or both.  Pause and rewind live TV feature is on the DVR box only, not on the other STB's.  You can pause and rewind DVR playback on these other boxes, but not live TV.   Note also that you need to be in an area which has the newer IMG 1.9 to be able to setup recordings from remote STB's and/or extend a recording as these are new features in IMG 1.9.
    9. Is there a "higher capacity" Multi-room DVR, and how do I get one? If you are not provided one at installation (depends if they are in stock or not) it can be ordered from out htttp://verizon.com/fiostvcentral website
It costs an additional $40 to order a 500 GB DVR if one is not provided at time of installation. I would hold out for one at that time so you don't have to pay the $40. You may be able to forgo the $40 upcharge if you can take your 160 GB DVR to a Verizon store and exchange it there (it they have the 500 GB DVR to exchange).  I would ask for the 500GB DVR at installation and make sure they can provide it before accepting it.
    7. What is the capacity of the multi-room DVR? 160gb for existing DVR 500gb for expanded DVR
    8. Can I add an external hard drive? The set top boxes running IMG 1.9 have this capability. 1.9 is still in its initial stages of deployment and not in most areas.
I hope this answers your questions you had.

  • BT Vision box and infinity

    Hi
We are considering changing to BT Infinity from normal BT broadband.
We currently have a black BT Vision Box (not yet updated) connected to an upstairs hub using the plug in black powerline adapters.
We paid about £60 to buy the box outright a couple of years ago so don't pay any monthly fee for Vision. We do occasionally 'buy' a film and the cost of this is added to our monthly BT bill. As this dosn't happen very often there is no ongoing cost to us of using the Vision Box for BBC iplayer or for recording, rewinding live TV etc
Would this change if we upgraded to infinity as I can only see the option of about £5 a month to use a vision box
    Thank you

Not in the least. There is no problem at all in upgrading to Infinity it will not affect your PAYG option.

  • BTV getting slower and s l o w e r and s l o ...

    Hi,
With every upgrade my Silver BTV is getting slower. I used to occasionally get the "Recorded TV is working. Please try later" every now and again, but now I get it almost every time I set up a recording or delete something. I think my record for this to be on the screen is over 20 seconds but 5 - 10 seconds is quite normal. I have done a soft reboot (and obviously BTV decides to do its own really annoying reboot around 7 am some mornings when I want to be able to rewind live BBC Breakfast to 6 am- WHY DOES IT DO THIS?) . This does not help but it least it fixes the other extremely annoying bug where it thinks it is running out of disk space and starts deleting programs when it really has no need to!!!
    Ta, Andy.

The box does not reboot itself at 7am every day at the behest of BT that is not normal behaviour.
I think you really ought to fo  a hard reset and clear everything off your hard drive and see if it solves your problem.
If it does not then you are I think looking at a slowly dying box which needs to be replaced.
    Factory Reset
Switch off the Vision+ box at the mains socket
Hold down the front panel OK and down arrow buttons
Switch on the power to the Vision+ box
Allow the box to start up (about 15 seconds)
Release the OK and down arrow buttons
