RFC Communication - error CPIC return code 020, SAP return code 665

Hello,
I have created RFC destination for connecting SCM system from Solution Manager. Both the systems are Unicode.
I am getting the following error --
ERROR                service '?' unknown
LOCATION             SAP-Gateway on host gva4103 / sapgw00
COMPONENT            NI (network interface)
COUNTER              4028
MODULE
LINE
RETURN CODE          -3
SUBRC                    0
RELEASE              640
TIME                 Mon Apr 24 11:28:21 2006
VERSION              37
And in SM21, I am getting following description
Communication error, CPIC return code 020, SAP return code 665
Following are the things I have checked..
1. RFC destination user checked, password reset in SM59 and in the target system
2. checked entries in /etc/services - Entry sapgw03 is present.
Please let me know what all things I need to check.
Thanks and Regards,
Vaibhav

I solved the problem by myself.
The problem was with the entry in services file only.
I was checking the file on Target system, which had the entry. There was no entry in Host system services file. After modifying the file, the connection now works fine.
Thus for RFC connection, entry of the target system gateway MUST be there in /etc/service of Host system.

Vaibhav

  • Comminication Error - CPIC ret code 020, Sap ret code 223

    Hi All,
Our SAP system receives inbound IDOCS from an external system (throgh TIBCO),
i have configured inbound partner profile in WE20,
There is now a problem in sending IDOCS to SAP. (Communication error CPIC code 020, SAP code 223).
Has anyone experienced similar problems - maybe point us in the right place to correct problem:
I have copied the text from the system log entries:
A CPIC function has failed.  The conversation ID and CPIC function are
specified in the system log entries.  Use the conversion ID to find more
detailed information about the error in the system log for the SAP
    gateway.
Meaning of the SAP return codes:
    1) Gateway errors:
    221,,Error in CPIC-SS
    222,,Storage bottleneck
    223,,Network read error

  • Communication error CPIC return code 019 SAP return  code 728. Delta error

    Hello Experts,
Would just like to ask if what we suspect is correct. We have running deltas in process chains occurring every early morning. However, upon checking the delta that should have run today, I found that the delta did not push through. I only found this one dump in SM21 that I think is related to the issue:
    MNo.
R49 Communication error, CPIC return code 019, SAP return code 728
    R5A > Conversation ID: 61442686
R49 Communication error, CPIC return code 019, SAP return code 728
    R64 > CPI-C function: CMSEND(SAP)
    R5A > Conversation ID: 61443687
    R64 > CPI-C function: CMSEND(SAP)
R49 Communication error, CPIC return code 019, SAP return code 728
    R5A > Conversation ID: 61444687
    R64 > CPI-C function: CMSEND(SAP)
Now we think that the delta did not push through because we are encountering issues with regards to our SAP R/3 system (the source system) and it is currently inaccessible. Did the delta not push through because of the issues and inaccessibility/uber slow processing of our SAP R/3 server? And is the error specified above illustrating this? Any explanation would help. I have already tried looking for similar issues but cannot find anything. Please help. Thanks!

    Hi
As far I know, The SAP Gateway carries out CPI-C services within the SAP world, which are based on TCP/IP. These services enable SAP Systems and external programs to communicate with one another.
CPI-C services can be used either in the ABAP program or for the external programs via the interfaces.
As RFC (remote function call) is based on CPI-C, all RFC connections also pass through the SAP Gateway.
Errors When Starting Remote Programs Using Remote Shell
When you use remote shell to start CPIC programs on other hosts, the following conditions apply:
The (gateway) UNIX ID must be available on the other host
The gateway host must be entered in the remote host in the file ".rhosts". This file must be located in the HOME directory of the (gateway) UNIX ID.
The program you want to start must be installed in the HOME directory of the (gateway) UNIX ID on the remote host.

    Hi All,
can anyone please tell me more about this error Communication error, CPIC return code 017, SAP return code 450 which is displayed in sm21.
We done post configuration of pi server yesterday, after the configuration we were able to log into Integration Directory and Visual Administator..
But today were are not able to log into both .....while logging into both we are getting authentication error 401.
we checked for users being locked but all users are not locked..even even tried reseting passwords,
also restarted the server but didnt help..
    Reward points for helpfull Answers.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Srikanth.

    Hi Naidu,
Most common reason encountered for this problem is authorizations on installation. it is important to  have both network and local machine admin rights when installing content server software. If you don't, the installation will be successful but you encounter the 401 error. Try reinstalling with correct authorization and you should resolve the issue.
Try regenerating the roles. SU01 -> display each XI user -> open the roles -> double click on the role -> click on the User tab in the role screen then there will be a button for USER COMPARISON do that for all the roles in red.
If that does'nt work out, Take a look at OSS Note 751856 and 796726.
May be your security roles were not adjusted during the upgrade (Note 796726).
if found worth pls do the req
    Thanx

    Hi Walat,
    User access problem :-
You located at location B are not able to access server DEV which is located C
Pls take help from your system administrator for doing below task if you are not aware about output
From location B try to telnet server DEV on port 32<NN> or 36<NN>  ( <NN> is your instance no of DEV )
    for e.g
from command prompt run the following command
    telnet < dev server ip >  32<NN>
    check the ouput
    How to check the ouput
1   after giving the above command, if you get blank screen it mean ports are open
2  after giving the above command, if you get ouput on screen like " conneting to server < dev server ip > it mean ports are not open
If the ports are not open then inform you network team that port mention aboev should be open for users.
once the ports get open check above step again , if you get the blank screen , then you wil be able to login to SAP

  • RFC Communication error when doing initial indexing

    Hello Everyone,
I have a quick question, when doing the initial index rollup for a BIA index the job is failing with RFC communication error.
We currently have the setting related to " TREXRfcServer threads" set to "Automatic Changes" in order to avoid the RFC Communication errors when loading big loads in BI system.
We currently are on Revision 49.
I also have referred to OSS Note 1138603.
The issue is when I am rolling up the BIA Index the rollup job is failing with RFC Communication errors.
The Global parameters within BIA are:
    BATCHPARA - 2
    NUMPROC - 5
    PKGSIZE - 10000000
    SUBPKGSIZE - 20000
We have two app servers with 52 Dialog processes and 25 Background processes.
Any help would be really appreciated.
    Thanks
    Dharma.

Removing references to systems and ports
    Issue:
When the initial indexing is being carried out for an InfoCube to
create the BIA Index and there is more than one application server in
the system the job is failing with the http error.
    Hello Everyone,
Thanks for the input, after the automatic changes was configured for concurrent requests the error is different right now.
    The error message is,
"Remote communication failure with partner http://<Removed>:<removed>/indexCellTable"
    Overview/Background:
When the indexing job is triggered as a background job the failure happens when the S table index is being filled.
In our system where we are trying to do the stress testing we currently have two app servers and one central instance.
When I limit the RFCGROUP in RSDDTREXADMIN table to one App server in terms of logon group the job finishes fine.
Whereas, when I do not limit the RFCGROUP and all app servers are open for access the background job finishes with the error message
Remote communication failure with partner http://<Removed>:<removed>/indexCellTable.
We have looked into the OSS Note 1102652 and our BASIS team confirmed that they were able to ping from BI App servers into BIA blades and vice versa.
We also confirmed if the local gateway was used for connectivity.
The above issue was not in other systems where we only had one server.
We currently are at Revision 49 and SP 13 in BI.
    We have E5345 Clowertown blades (2 x 4) 16GB blades.
Please let us know if you need additional information.
Thanks in advance for the input.

  • Communication Error CPIC rc=20 SAP rc=236

    Hello,
We had SAP running on this application server and then switch hostname/ip address and now get the error message above.  In SM51 from the central instance the server is visible but double clicking on the entry does nothing.  If I double click on another host, SM51 and double click on host that was switched it works.  It's not working from the Central Instance only??
Any ideas to what to look at?
    Items that have been reviewed:
    /etc/hosts
    uname -a
Created new RFC connection to host, it fails as well.
    Thanks

    Hi Christopher,
Check /etc/services on the application server(s). Also look into the instance profiles on both sides.

  • Run time RFC communication error ERP ECO 7.0

    Hi guys
We are using ECO 7.0 for ERP 6.0 and I can acess B2b site and take products into the basket without issues. But as soon as I click go to quotation, I get run time errors. Looking at the trace i found that issue is with jco exception at RFC_Error_CommunicationCPIC Call CRMRCV.
I then looked into ECC ST22 dump log and found that lots of dumps under user id sapsys for get crm release information. I am not sure why ECO is looking for CRM release when we dont have CRM in picture.
If you have encountered this issue, please let me know.
    Regards
    Jai

Following is the dump that I see in our ECC system
      Function module "CRM_GET_TRANSFER_STRUCT" not found.
    What happened?
The function module "CRM_GET_TRANSFER_STRUCT" is called,
but cannot be found in the library.
Error in the ABAP Application Program
The current ABAP program "SAPMSSY1" had to be terminated because it has
come across a statement that unfortunately cannot be executed.
    What can you do?
Note down which actions and inputs caused the error
To process the problem further, contact you SAP system
      administrator.
Using Transaction ST22 for ABAP Dump Analysis, you can look
at and manage termination messages, and you can also
keep them for a long time.
    ror analysis
The program "SAPMSSY1" contains the CALL FUNCTION statement.
The name of the function module to be called is "CRM_GET_TRANSFER_STRUCT".
No function module exists with the name "CRM_GET_TRANSFER_STRUCT".
All function modules are listed in the Function Library (SE37).
