  • SAP PORTAL Time-Out Settings / BO iView Reports..?

We have created BO object-specific iView requests in SAP PORTAL based on Ingo's posting....
SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise & SAP Enterprise Portal - Part 3 of 4
Currently, just posting some small CR4E and Analysis for Office (*Design Studio will be added in a few months) report objects that are based on BW queries - and response time is a few seconds.
However, long-term as our BW grows - and the volume of data/periods expands we may see some reduction in the performance of these reports, and they make take a few-minutes to return data.
The SAP Portal team already have an issue with an ECC / T-Code report (*no Business Objects involved) which runs over 100 seconds - and hits a Portal time-out....and are wondering if we would hit the same issue if a CR4E within the Portal ran longer than 100 seconds...?
I think the answer is "NO", the Portal time-out would not apply in that scenario. My assumption is that in our solution-path, the Portal's 100 second time-out rule would ONLY apply to the process of the Portal invoking the iView request - and opening the frame for the CR4E content.
Once the frame is open - and the RPT / Prompt-Screen is loaded the Portal time-out is "happy".
After that iView -> BO frame is established....so, even if the CR4E & BW Query took more than 100 Seconds to return/display the data - the SAP Portal would not time-out - as all of that activity is actually taking place at the BOE Platform layer within the frame (and using the time-out settings at the BOE level).
Can anyone confirm that my assumptions are correct, or explain where the assumption is wrong..?
    Thanks in advance...!

In our scenario, the SAP PORTAL has a 100 second time-out, but the Business Objects platform where the CR4E content is hosted has a 600 second time-out for "View on Demand" reporting.
When the SAP PORTAL opens the iView connection, it is opening the CR4E content in a frame on the Portal. Prompts are entered - and the RPT execution begins on the BOE platform.
There is a "spinning-wheel" displayed from the BOE platform, and if run in BO LaunchPad it could run for up to 600 seconds before a time-out occured.
When it is presented in SAP PORTAL via iView connection - does that "spinning-wheel" from BOE Platform provide enough of a "heartbeat" to let the PORTAL know not to drop the connection at 100 seconds....?
My reasoning is that SAP PORTAL should be opening the BOE content with the same rules that apply when the report is opening in the BO LaunchPad.
We are going to create a "SLOW" report in CR4E (*Lots of charts & sub-reports) to test/compare LaunchPad and Portal display of the same report.

  • Basic configuration in GRC 10 for portals

    Hi Gurus,
Could you please tell me the basic configuration details in GRC 10 for portals.
    Thanks,
    Mukesh

    Hi Mukesh,
    You can refer to https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/sno/ui_entry/entry.htm?param=69765F6D6F64653D3030312669765F7361…
However there is no such guide on Portal integration with GRC, you might need to follow below steps:
1- Create one HTTP type RFC connection between GRC and Portal system.
2- Create System Alias in portal system for GRC system
3- Deploy the GRC Portal content in Portal system
5-Portal content comes with 5 work-sets and one security role. You can assign the portal role that comes with the Portal content to user in Portal and also GRC roles to the same user in GRC system.
    Hope this helps.

  • Web services enabled RFC for SO creation in SAP  5.0 is not responding

    Dear Members,
Third party application is not able to getting response from SAP R/3 web service enabled RFC.
We have created a RFC for creation of Sales order by passing mandatory values into SAP thorugh third party application from outside SAP. Accessing RFC in SAP through Web service is not sending response properly. However Sales Order is getting created in the SAP system perfactly, in return to third party application to out side SAP through web service throughing an Exception.
As standalone RFC in SAP, which is creating Sales order perfactly.
Here we have deleted web service of RFC many times and recreated also, still the problem is not get resolved.
Web services is got configured perfactly in the SAP, because other RFCs are working fine.
Please someone suggest how to resolve this issue in case of Sales Order creation through web service enabled.
    Sudheer

    Hi ARC,
Here the issue is that, Sales Order is getting created but while sending the Order num. to Webpage through web service then rasing below Exception.
    Runtime Error UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION
    Except. CX_SOAP_CORE
    Date and Time 07.05.2008 20:13:24
    ShrtText
An exception that could not be caught occurred.
    What happened?
The exception 'CX_SOAP_CORE' was raised but was not caught at any stage in the
    call hierarchy.
Since exceptions represent error situations, and since the system could
not react adequately to this error, the current program,
    'CL_SOAP_TRANSPORT_EXTENSN_ROOTCP', had to
    be terminated

  • Portal Time out

    Hi ,
I want to set the portal time out , such that if a user is not doing any activity , the portal should log him out(like banking websites)
Please let me know the steps to do the same
I found out that it can be set from System Administration --> System Configuration --> UM Configuration --> Security Settings, but i could not find Lifetime of the SAP Logon Ticket option there
    Please help

    hii.
The termination of the Portal and all Web Dynpro applications as a whole is defined by the Security Session timeout.
This is an absolute timeout value, e.g. the default is about 27h, that always terminates the whole security session after the defined period of time independtly from any user interaction.
The expiration of the HTTP sessions is handled automaticaly and does not need to be cared about.
When the HTTP sessions are created they get the maximum of the application session timeout and the default HTTP session timeout. After the corresponding application session has been destroyed, the HTTP session gets a very small value to expire as soon as possible.
Go through this SAP NOTE to make the suitable changes:-
    Note 842635
Also refer to NOTE 842878 for Session Management Information.

  • GRC AE User provisioning for Portal giving error

    Hi,
We are having GRC AC 5.3- SP9.
While doing user provisioning for Portal, we are getting the following error:  DBCacheVerifier.java@58:isExpired(). Detailed error log is attached herewith. The back end system (EP Dev) is installed with GRC RTA. Connectors are testing OK. The CPIC user id in backend system EPDev is ED1GRC and has SUPER ADMIN Authorizations, with SPML read/write actions attached to the Role. EP Dev system is having UME as data source, not LDAP. The issue was existing even before the SP9 upgrade. We have restarted the Server several times lately. Pls help me in this.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Jagadish H S
    BASIS Team, BPCL, Mumbai.

    Jagadish,
This type of error would normally be a data setup issue. Have you imported all of the initial data files (XML ones)?
Otherwise, if it is just a cache issue, then restarting the server would normally solve the proplem. I would also check the Java Netweaver Admin console to ensure that the memory settings are sufficiently configured to match the hardware that is deployed.

    hi
    Synchronous RFC (CALL FUNCTION-DESTINATION)
    Syntax
CALL FUNCTION func DESTINATION dest parameter list.
    Effect
Synchronous call of a remote-capable function module specified in func using the RFC interface. With the addition DESTINATION, the destination is specified in dest. Character-type data objects are expected for func and dest. The calling program is continued using the statement CALL FUNCTION, if the remotely called function has finished.
CALL FUNCTION - DESTINATION parameter list
    Syntax
    ... http://EXPORTING p1 = a1 ... pn = an
    http://IMPORTING p1 = a1 p2 = a2 ...
    http://CHANGING p1 = a1 p2 = a2 ...
    http://TABLES t1 = itab1 t2 = itab2 ...
    [EXCEPTIONS exc1 = n1 exc2 = n2 ... MESSAGE mess
    OTHERS = n_others].
    Effect
These additions are used to assign actual parameters to the formal parameters of the function module, and return values to exceptions that are not class-based. The additions have the same meanings as for the general function module call, the only differences being that, with the addition TABLES, only tables with flat character types can be transferred, and that if a header line exists, it is not transferred. The additions EXPORTING, IMPORTING and CHANGING allow you to transfer tables that have deep character types, deep structures, and strings.
For EXCEPTIONS, you can also specify an optional addition MESSAGE for the special exceptions SYSTEM_FAILURE and COMMUNICATION_FAILURE. If one of these exceptions occurs, the first line of the corresponding short dump is entered in the field mess, which must be flat and of character-type.
Transferring tables using the addition TABLES is considerably faster than using the other additions, since a binary format is used internally instead of an XML format.
    Parallel Processing with Asynchronous RFC
To achieve a balanced distribution of the system load, you can use destination additions to execute function modules in parallel tasks in any application server or in a predefined application server group of an SAP system.
Parallel-processing is implemented with a special variant of asynchonous RFC. It’s important that you use only the correct variant for your own parallel processing applications: the CALL FUNCTION STARTING NEW TASK DESTINATION IN GROUP keyword. Using other variants of asynchronous RFC circumvents the built-in safeguards in the correct keyword, and can bring your system to its knees
Details are discussed in the following subsections:
    · Prerequisites for Parallel Processing
    · Function Modules and ABAP Keywords for Parallel Processing
    · Managing Resources in Parallel Processing
    Prerequisites for Parallel Processing
Before you implement parallel processing, make sure that your application and your SAP system meet these requirements:
    · Logically-independent units of work:
The data processing task that is to be carried out in parallel must be logically independent of other instances of the task. That is, the task can be carried out without reference to other records from the same data set that are also being processed in parallel, and the task is not dependent upon the results of others of the parallel operations. For example, parallel processing is not suitable for data that must be sequentially processed or in which the processing of one data item is dependent upon the processing of another item of the data.
By definition, there is no guarantee that data will be processed in a particular order in parallel processing or that a particular result will be available at a given point in processing.
    · ABAP requirements:
¡ The function module that you call must be marked as externally callable. This attribute is specified in the Remote function call supported field in the function module definition (transaction SE37).
¡ The called function module may not include a function call to the destination “BACK.”
¡ The calling program should not change to a new internal session after making an asynchronous RFC call. That is, you should not use SUBMIT or CALL TRANSACTION in such a report after using CALL FUNCTION STARTING NEW TASK.
¡ You cannot use the CALL FUNCTION STARTING NEW TASK DESTINATION IN GROUP keyword to start external programs.
    · System resources:
In order to process tasks from parallel jobs, a server in your SAP system must have at least 3 dialog work processes. It must also meet the workload criteria of the parallel processing system: Dispatcher queue less than 10% full, at least one dialog work process free for processing tasks from the parallel job.
Function Modules and ABAP Keywords for Parallel Processing
You can implement parallel processing in your applications by using the following function modules and ABAP keywords:
    · SPBT_INITIALIZE: Optional function module.
Use to determine the availability of resources for parallel processing.
    You can do the following:
¡ check that the parallel processing group that you have specified is correct.
¡ find out how many work processes are available so that you can more efficiently size the packets of data that are to be processed in your data.
    · CALL FUNCTION Remotefunction STARTING NEW TASK Taskname DESTINATION IN GROUP:
With this ABAP statement, you are telling the SAP system to process function module calls in parallel. Typically, you’ll place this keyword in a loop in which you divide up the data that is to be processed into work packets. You can pass the data that is to be processed in the form of an internal table (EXPORT, TABLE arguments). The keyword implements parallel processing by dispatching asynchronous RFC calls to the servers that are available in the RFC server group specified for the processing.
Note that your RFC calls with CALL FUNCTION are processed in work processes of type DIALOG. The DIALOG limit on processing of one dialog step (by default 300 seconds, system profile parameter rdisp/max_wprun_time) applies to these RFC calls. Keep this limit in mind when you divide up data for parallel processing calls.
    · SPBT_GET_PP_DESTINATION: Optional function module.
Call immediately after the CALL FUNCTION keyword to get the name of the server on which the parallel processing task will be run.
    · SPBT_DO_NOT_USE_SERVER: Optional function module.
Excludes a particular server from further use for processing parallel processing tasks. Use in conjunction with SPBT_GET_PP_DESTINATION if you determine that a particular server is not available for parallel processing (for example, COMMUNICATION FAILURE exception if a server becomes unavailable).
    · WAIT: ABAP keyword
    WAIT UNTIL
Required if you wish to wait for all of the asynchronous parallel tasks created with CALL FUNCTION to return. This is normally a requirement for orderly background processing. May be used only if the CALL FUNCTION includes the PERFORMING ON RETURN addition.
    · RECEIVE: ABAP keyword
    RECEIVE RESULTS FROM FUNCTION Remotefunction
Required if you wish to receive the results of the processing of an asynchronous RFC. RECEIVE retrieves IMPORT and TABLE parameters as well as messages and return codes.
    Managing Resources in Parallel Processing
You use the following destination additions to perform parallel execution of function modules (asynchronous calls) in the SAP system:
In a predefined group of application servers:
CALL FUNCTION Remotefunction STARTING NEW TASK Taskname
    DESTINATION IN GROUP Groupname
In all currently available and active application servers:
CALL FUNCTION Remotefunction STARTING NEW TASK Taskname
    DESTINATION IN GROUP DEFAULT
The addition first determines the amount of resources (work processes) currently available (i.e. in all servers or in a group of application servers, comparable with login servers). The resources available for executing asynchronous calls on each application server depends on the current system load.
The applications developer is responsible for the availability of RFC groups in the production system (i.e. the customer's system). For details on how to maintain the RFC groups, see Maintaining Group Destinations For Load Distribution.
After determining the available resources, the asynchronous call is executed in an available application server. If no resources are available at that particular time, the system executes the exception routine RESOURCE_FAILURE (see the addition Exceptions). In the case of an asynchronous function module call, this exception must be handled by the application program.
The process for determining available resources in an RFC group is as follows:
First, the system determines the length of the dispatcher queue for the relevant application server. If it is greater than 10% of the overall length, the server makes no resources available. If it is smaller, the system makes available the current number of free dialog processes minus 2 (as a reserve instance for other purposes, e.g. for logon to the system or administration programs). Thus, one application server must have at least 3 dialog processes if RFC parallel processing is taken into account.
§ At present, only one RFC group per program environment is supported for parallel execution of asynchronous calls. Using both additions (DESTINATION IN GROUP Groupname and DESTINATION IN GROUP DEFAULT) in one program is not allowed.
§ The exception routine RESOURCE_FAILURE is only triggered in connection with asynchronous RFCs with the additions DESTINATION IN GROUP Groupname and DESTINATION IN GROUP DEFAULT.
You are recommended (for performance and other reasons) to use an RFC group with sufficient resources for parallel processing of asynchronous calls
    Continue with the following section:

  • Configuring runtime classpath for portal applications?

    G'day,
I've got a portal application that uses the classes found in system/kernel.jar and system/frame.jar. When I build the portal application in the IDE I can add these to the build path as external jars, but when I run the portal application I get "class not found" errors.
      java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sap/engine/core/Framework
So ... how do I add these jar files to the portal application's runtime classpath?
    --Geoff

    Hi Geoffrey
Jar files are required in two ways:
For Design time: User external jars(as you have done)
For Run time: Put the jar files in the lib folder(this way the par/ear ) itself will contain the jar files.
Right click the project - >properties->java build path->libraries-> Add Jars (and not Add External Jars)->select your project->dist->PORTAL-INF->lib->select the jar file.
    Hope it helps.

In the visual admin, should I have to mention the new SLD entries in SLD data supplier for one server node ( cluster > server node 1 > services) (or ) in the rest of four server nodes togeather?
Is changing the SLD entry in one server node enough?
I tried to chnage in the global configuration , but dont see any entries for mentioning the SLD details.
I will appreciate your help and suggestion
    Thanks in advance

    Hi ,
Changed the SLD in server node 0 and it got reflected in other server nodes automatically.
In content admin, even the SLD connection test is working fine.
Now there is a problem in Jc0 connections.
Only the SSO -Jco connection test is getting successful but the Jco metadata connection fails with the error"
