RFC when running query

Do any of the experts know why when users run queries I see in SM50 the session is stopped for RFC. It then continues.
What is it doing  a RFC call for when running a query?
Thanks

Hi,
The BW front-end system uses RFC, to create the link to the the BW back end.So ,When you execute the query , first of all it call the RFC to get the result set from Underlying tables.

  • Want popup first when running query

    hi
When running a query, Users have requested to have variables popup first as a modal window instead of showing as a full screen web page.  Is there anyway to configure such requirement either in query designer or wad?
    thanks.

Once you attached a variable for one characteristics, and make sure that variable is user entry and it is also mandatory, then the variable entry screen should pop-up.
not sure I got your question.
    thanks.

  • Results table difference when running query from Alert compared to Query Manager

    Hello,
I have following query - Aim is to create alert to tell employee which customers to make visit to in next 4 weeks
    SELECT DISTINCT T1.CardName, T1.U_VisitDue, T1.U_VisitReason, T1.U_Priority, T1.U_Region as 'Area', T1.U_VNotes
    FROM dbo.OCRD T1
    WHERE DateDiff(d,T1.U_VisitDue, GETDATE()) <29
    Group BY T1.CardName, T1.U_VNotes, T1.U_VisitDue, T1.U_VisitReason, T1.U_Priority, T1.U_Region
    FOR BROWSE
My problem is that when I run query through alert the field U_VNotes is displayed differently.
Running the query from Query Manager the contents of this field appear in one field of the result table.
Running the query via Alery the content of this field is split into several fields in results table according to 'new line' in field entry.
This makes the results table from the Query less 'user-friendly' because if you want to sort the table by 'Date' column for example it makes a mess of the table because of the extra rows.
I want results table to look like top version in picture below ... but i want to run from alert.
    Is this possible?
    How can I achieve it?
    Thanks for any assistance
    Regards, Karen

  • ODBC error when running query on WEBI XI R2

    Hi all,
I have a newly installed XIR2 on Win 2003 (32-bit), I created a simple Universe pointing to MSSQL 2005. I encountered the error below when running a query from WEBI:
Database Error: [Microsoft] [ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified. Error: WIS 10901
    Any ideas? Thanks!
    Cheers,
    Arms

    Hi Armstrong,
If you are using an ODBC connection, make sure the connection is defined exactly the same on the server as it defined on your computer... With SQL you can try to create an OLE DB connection, then when you export the universe, the connection will still work... ODBC connections need to be created on all machines if you plan to use the desktop tools.
    Hope this helps

  • ORA-01843: not a valid month . Receive this error when running report in reporting services but not when running query in BIDS

    sql server 2008 r2
    RS2008 r2
I can execute the query in BIDS 2008 with out a problem and I can run on our RS2005 server without a problem
But when I deploy report and run on our RS2008 server I get the error
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Query execution failed for dataset 'NIR'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand)
    ORA-01843: not a valid month
    QUERY:
    select * from NIR_QUARTERLY where birth_date between :PARAM1 and :PARAM2
    order by PT_CODE

    CAUSE
The problem is caused by not using VALID dates values in the dataset.
    - This data problem was masked in the original version as the Predicate(s) used can change between versions of Oracle
    - Oracle does *not* guarantee the same explain plan or the specific order of predicates used between versions of Oracle
Reviewing the  EXPLAIN PLAN for both versions revealed in this case:
    1) The table was partitioned
    2) The EXPLAIN PLANS were not the same due to how the partitions were accessed
    3) If the same query was used against a non-partitioned table using the same data, the following error would always occur
       ORA-01843: not a valid month
    4) The problem string value was in this case found to include the string value of  '0000-00-00'
The ORA-01843 occurred when using the TO_DATE function against '0000-00-00'
    There is *no* Year= '0000' Month= '00' or day = '00' -- therefore the  ORA-01843: not a valid month

  • User kicked out of PS when running Query to excel

    Hi,
Just to note, I am actually a developer and doesnt know a thing about configurations or any PS tech admin knowledge regarding installation and setting up Psoft. So please be patient with me since im starting this just now and only starting to gain knowledge in this are.
Just to give an overview, currently we are supporting US psoft and I am located in malaysia tranferring the servers here at our end. we are on UAT right now and having trouble with the psoft application itself and from I see it, it can be caused by how it is installed. Because the US env (server in US) is working perfectly but the M'sia env are having errors (server in M'sia). Just to remind that its the same env only installed in different location, you can call it parallel testing if you like.
Now with the problem, when the user tries to run a query in the Query manager and doing "run to excel", the user gets kicked out of PeopleSoft online and giving just the literal "Error" message. And when I look at the PSQRYSRV dump file (just learned it yesterday), can't really understand what it says. I try googling it but to no success.
Does anybody can help me with this? TIA!

  • Bug Report - Hang when run query and then click on connection

SQL Developer hangs if you run a query in a SQL Worksheet, then while it's still running, right-click on the connection in the Connections window. It will come back again once the query finishes, but usually you want to open another sql worksheet while the query is still running so you can do other things.
I find the whole screen refresh very buggy, it's probably related to using Swing. I have to restart SQL Developer about once an hour.

That's the way sqldev works: almost every action requires querying the connection. Since the connection is busy with your query, it just hangs there until finished.
Lots of users complained about this, and some rudimental checks where put in place to pop up a "connection busy" dialog instead, but you will only see that in a few situations. Really, this needs a lot of work to filter out unnecessary queries. If other commercial products can, so can sqldev...
There's also an accepted feature request for automatically opening more connections when necessary (on the SQL Developer Exchange), so you can vote and add comments if you want to.
    Regards,
    K.

  • No response when running Query from client

    Hey.
I have a problem, I have installed Oracle9i on a Red Hat 9 Professional server, I have made my database, and have also put in some data, now here is the problem.
When i connect and run a query from my server, then it runs fine and fast, If i run the same query from min Winxp workstation, then my SQLPlus just hangs.
I can from my workstation ping and tnsping my server without any problems. and as far as i can see my tnsnames og listener is working fine.
    hope u can help
    /regards
    Jonas Skjoldan

We did have a bug in older versions of smartview where it was not possible to deinstall it. Smartview was removed but any attempt to install a new version failed. This was because Smartview creates a Registry entry in:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Installer
    and adds the key
    C:\DOCUME~1\USERNAME\LOCALS~1\Temp\_is3EA\
which then prevents any newer version of SmartView to be installed
I looked on my machine and the is3EA file does not exist, however there is an installer file called isA.exe
The registry entries for smartview are found under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hyperion Solutions\Hyperion Smartview - maybe you could try deleting these entries? --> solution works.

  • GENUNIID error when running query

I have a query this is giving me problems.  It works fine in our development environment.  I transported it to production enviroment.  When trying to run in production using Bex get a critical error.  Tried running it using RSRT get error "query could not be opened GENUNIID is invalid" Brain 665.
Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it?

    Hi,
Did it transport without any problems? Check the transport logs.

  • Remove Table Message when running query in CR2008

    Hi All,
I am having a very weird problem in which when I run my report, a Remove Table table message comes up saying that the database table could not be found. Proceed to remove? I cannot continue with my query because it doesn't see my tables even though they do exist. My database connector is SQL Native Client 10 and my database system is SQL Server 2008 Standard. I am running this query within the CR2008 designer. Any ideas why CR is not seeing my tables?
    Thank you,

    Hello,
    Any CR 2008 patches installed?
Can you tell us more what field it's trying to remove?
If you create a new report and log in can you see that table in the database Wizard?
Once you connect click on the Connection and select Options and check off everything except Tables.

  • Why an InfoObj. value shows up when running query but it's not in the ODS?

We've got an ODS which has PO records, multiple PO records could contain the same contract number.  When we run a query based on this PO ODS, expend the list for the contract number field (0Contract), find a value listed, but it's not in this ODS.
We wonder how this value was from.
We check the defination of this InfoObject 0Contract, under Business Explorer tab, the Display field is "Key", the "Query Def. Filter Value Selection" field setting is "Only Values in InfoProvider", and the "Query Execution Filter Val. Selectn" field setting is "Only Posted Values for Navigation", sth wrong with these settings?
Any idea where this value comes from?
    Thanks

    Hi Kevin,
Please see this thread for a discussion we had on this 'property' when using an ODS:
    Re: ODS Object-Specific Properties BUG
    Hope this helps...

  • Getting SQL*Net more data from client waits when running a query through web based interface

    Hi, you all,
We are having this weird behavior when running query through web based interface, we get a lot of "SQL*Net more data from client" waits, the OEM indicates that the current wait event is SQL*Net more data from client
It's just a very simple query wich invokes a db link.
When I execute the same query on any PL/SQL tool like toad or sql developer it works fine, but that query inside an application executed through a web based interface, it hangs for ever.
Where can I start looking for the problem.
We are working on a 3 Node RAC 11gr2, both databases are on the same RAC.
    Thanks.

    Hi ,
we managed to reproduce the case in test environment, below are the steps:
1)have 2 databases on different machines, will call the first one local, the other one remote.
    2)in the local database create:
a - DBLink to remote database.
b - read data from remote database(we simply used select count(*) from dummy_table )
c - insert data into a table on the local database
d - terminate the connection between the 2 databases (disconnect either machine from the network)
e - commit on local database.
what we noticed was the following:
1)when the local database is disconnected from the network(the machine is not connected to any network at the moment): almost immediately throws an error, and issuing the following:
select * from dba_2pc_pending;we found some data .
    2) when the remote database was disconnected(the local database is still connected to the network):
after 7-8 seconds an error is thrown, and issuing the following:
select * from dba_2pc_pending;did not return any data.
since this is pretty similar to our case ,we concluded that it's a network issue.
is this the correct behavior ?
as a temporary solution till the network issue is fixed ,we did the following:
    1) changed the call of the remote procedure to calling a local procedure that calls the remote procedure.
    2) added pragma autonomous_transaction to the local procedure.
    3) at the end of the local procedure rollback the autonomous transaction.
it seems that since the global transaction does not use the DBLink database does not issue a 2PC commit.
this works in my cases since the DBLink is only issed to read data.

  • Getting Strange Error Running Query After Partioning Cube

I am using BI 7.0, Service Pack 11:
I just partitioned a cube. I hav eorginal cube XFI_C001 and create a new cube C2_XFIC01 by copying from XFI_C001. Now I developed a query on C2_XFIC01. I did SM50, looked at developer trace, no clue.
