RFID - SAP AII

Hi all,
Need some infomation on SAP AII and also how to relate RFID with SAP AII and also SAP Data base,
How the data will be filtered in SAP AII?
If anyone knows regarding this let me know
Thanks,
-Teena.

Hi Teena,
<b>SAP RFID Solution Package</b>
The SAP RFID solution package provides a complete auto-ID middleware solution connecting RFID data directly from auto-ID data capture sources, such as RFID readers and device controllers, and integrates the data directly into enterprise applications . It converts raw RFID data into business process information by making the associations from key business rules, master data, and transactions to raw RFID data .
<b>SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure</b>
Auto-ID Infrastructure is compatible with SAP R/3 4.6C or greater, and it also has adapters for SAP Warehouse Management, SAP Business Information Warehouse, SAP Supply Chain Event Management, SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization, and all SAP NetWeaver components.
Auto-ID Infrastructure is designed to synchronize EPC and RFID information into your ERP systems by providing a complete, multidimensional data model of RFID-enabled assets, including:
<b>1.EPC number
2.Asset location
3.Status
4.Last RFID read point
5.Handling unit number
6.Packing hierarchy association (such as item, item-to-case, or case-to-pallet)</b>
It then maps this data to your SAP R/3 system via association to handling units (HUs). Handling unit headers include a standards-based HU number, weight, volume, and dimensions. HU content includes material number, quantity, unit of measure, batch number, plant number and location, and stock category (such as consignment), as well as serial number and inspection lot data.
These HUs are then associated with EPC numbers and are integrated into the appropriate transaction for processes such as production orders, transfer orders, sales orders, delivery (ASNs) and receipt, shipment, picking and packing, and inventory move and packing operations.
Because it is built on SAP Web Application Server, Auto-ID Infrastructure supports multiple communication interfaces (HTTP, SOAP, WSDL, SOCKET/ TCPIP), as well as mobile interfaces to PocketPC 2003 and Mobile Linux (Sharp).
<b>It runs on Windows (XP, 2000, NT), Unix, and Linux, and supports Oracle, SAP DB, DB2, and Microsoft SQL Server.</b>This should answer your query.
Thanks & Regards,

  • Need to read Hex data format for Handheld device. (SAP AII RFID )

    Hello,
we developed a custom screens for packing, unpacking, tag commission.. etc for handheld device for my client. the Serial number field  type is /ain/barcode. Its working fine. but for the new system need to read the Hex format. I created a new field in the screen. but the handheld device is not reading the Serial number in Hex format.
Could anyone suggest me how to read Hex data in Handheld devices. We are using Motorola MC9090 Series.
    Regards,
    Kamal

    Hi
Are you using the reader to read an RFID tag or for reading barcodes.
Ideally, if you read an EPC Gen2 RFID tag, for example, the 96 bit encoded EPC is read and that can be converted to its equivalent  HEX format for posting the observation to SAP AII.
In case of barcodes, the string is read as is printed on the barcode.

  • SAP AII (Auto-ID Infrastructure) to  BizTalk RFID  scenario

    Hi Everyone,
did some one work on this type of project ....
This project is <b>to develop a connector between SAP AII (Auto-ID Infrastructure) and BizTalk RFID for handling RFID related activities.</b>
    Quick response would be appreaciated.....
    Cheers,
    Raghavesh

    Hi Raghavesh,
If you want to use a Connector to communicate between Biztalk and SAP AII..you can use .Net connector available.
The other way is SAP AII uses XI for Communication...so you can use webservices between Biztalk and XI. The below document should be helpful

Use SOAP adapter for  BIZTALK .
Use  plainHttp adapter for XI .

  • Reg. Changes in SAP AII D.C 4.0

I am using SAP AII D.C. 4.0 and SUN RFID 3.0 middleware to find out RFID Autoid solutions. While doing tag Commission from SAP, It sends a XML message to SUN RFID middleware.  Because of SUN RFID 3.0 supports only SAP AII D.C. 2.1 XSD, I am getting XML Parser error. SAP AII D.C. 4.0 has some modification in XSD.
What is the workaround for this?
A detailed help would be appreciated.

  • Need of SAP AII

    Hello,
we have already implemented WM. We want to use now RFID. During the picking (with RF), we want to put a tag on small bags. These small bags are packed in boxes that have also tag. Then the boxes are put on a pallet. We need to keep the information that the RFID of the bags are packed in which box(RFID) and in which pallet. How can we do that ? When the pallet go out from the warehouse through a gate reader, the system will make a check that all the RFID packed during the picking are on the pallet. For this process do we need to have SAP AII ?
The same question( do we need to have SAP AII.) for a second process: the pallets arrive at the store. A worker with mobile scanner will scan the pallet and the system will make a check that all the RFID that left the warehouse are arrived at the store.
How can we do it technically
Thank you for your answers and your help.
    Christophe

    Hi ,
yes , you need to implement SAP AII for meeting above mentioned two business requirements.
    Business requirements:
    1) Need to save relationship between child and parent objects (bags and boxes ) , SAP AII saves this information as a "packaging heirarachy"
    2) Automatically verifying the shipped pallets/boxes/bags while receiving at the store , SAP AII  supports this business process wherein, after processing outbound delivery ,it can trigger business process in SAP XI where all the ids (EPCs) are added to create ASN document , against this ASN document you can process inbound delivery at the customer end and hence verify the shipped materials while receiving.

  • Connector to SAP AII scanario

    My scenario:
    <b>Biztalk RFID ->Connector>XI--> SAP AII</b>
<b>We are not considering between Biztalk RFID to Connector.</b>We are bothered about<b> Connector to SAP AII</b>.Now our people say that,They dont want a folder concept where they will drop their XML content into a folder from where XI will pick it up throught File Adapter.
they want it to get picked up by XI directly from Connector. How is that can be done.Does anyone have any Idea or any suggestion.Plz guide me.
    how can we achieve....

  • SAP AII for production process

    Hello,
I'm an ABAP programmer but I have to find some information (integration scenario example) about using RFID for managing a production process with SAP.
    I found only for SCM:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_autoid40/helpdata/en/43/ec3b1c601f6bf1e10000000a11466f/content.htm
Is it posible to manage a production process with SAP's  AII <-> XI <-> ERP like it can be done for SCM?
    Thanks.
    Traian

    Hi Mustata,
Yes it is very much possible to RFID enable the SAP R/3 Production process.
AII 4.0 supported out of the box execution of Outbound delivery process and Inbound Delivery process.
The configuration guide for same are available at this link http://service.sap.com/scm
you can get the config guide in detailed information of RFID under SCM.
Now answer to your question SAP AII for production process.
AII 5.1 supports creation on new document in AII. Also the documents from backend system SAP R/3 sent to AII via XI with the help of standard document interface.
The documents related to production process can be then executed in AII with the help of RFID and after document execution in AII, if required, the document data can be sent to SAP R/3 for completion of the document in backend system.
Hope this answers your query. Do read the configuration guides.
If same process needs to be done in AII 4.0 then customisation will be need to implement the production process integration.
    Thanks and regards,

  • Middleware - SAP AII

    Hi RFID Friends,
i found many informations about SAP AII and RFID Tech. in this , but nothing to a Middleware, witch is essentail for comm. between RFID hardware and SAP. help.sap.com is like a cloesed book in this case. I read about BizTalk or Websphere, XI... but all those are to much for an Small Business case. it's unclear for me:
    1. What SAP AII need to get DATA from an Reader. What is the simply and cheap way?
    2. Because AII is an standalone System, is XI neccecery to get this Information from AII into SAP ERP?
    Can you help me please.
    Thank you all
    Bülent

    Hi Bullent,
You were correct in not finding out any information on RFID Middleware on help.sap.com.
This is because SAP is not involved in that business at all. Instead SAP depends upon its partners to deliver RFID middleware solutions. For eg, Biztalk from Microsoft, IBM middleware and PIXIE from Infosys technologies Ltd are such examples. SAP AII exposes an interface which the middleware development team has to comply with. Then there is also a SAP Certification process for Device middlewares that support communication with SAP AII.
SAP similarly also depends upon its partners for RFID hardware also. For. Zebra, Motorola are some of the RFID hardware that are compliant with SAP AII for mobile devices.
    Answer to your questions:
    1) SAP AII can get whatever data is written on the tags. It depends on your business requirement what data is needed by you on the tags. There is no simple or cheap way. There are two ways.
    a) Fixed Readers: Require RFID middleware between hardware and SAP AII
    b) Mobile Readers: Can be directly supported by SAP AII witout device middleware. (So this can be cheaper )
    2) Yes SAP XI is necessary to send data to SAP ERP. Else it will require huge custom abap development to support this.
I hope i have answered your questions. Thnks

  • Details about RFID with AII and XI.

    Hi,
I do have few more doubts, we have purchased hand held readers from Symbol and Intermec. As of now we are using .Net as intermediary along with the SDK's provided by them. Can I have the process of integration with SAP either using XI or AII and XI.
Will there be any documentation for the process of Integration I mean the configuration part needs to be done in XI, AII and R/3 systems. If so where could I get that. Our requirement is to have an integration with SAP.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Bharadwaj Kolluru.

    Hi Bharadwaj,
On similar lines as you mentioned .I have implemented one of the RFID -SAP application using INTERMEC passive devices.
For the RFID IMPLEMENTATION we were using the VC++(mfc) and the T6 API'S.
Refer one my techcnial paper highlighting the details mentioned above
Direct Link of the document is as under
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/c444f8e8-0d01-0010-4d9b-c6ff68e64519.
The case study which I have mentioned in this approach is a demo application.
I should say if you got to implement any of the RFID-SAP application with this approach then you have to do the feasibility study in all aspects both cost and time wise.Hope this should help you.
Also if you want to want to know about SAP-AII then refer all the below mentioned links and you will get all the necessary information.

  • Relations between SAP AII, ONS, PML and Savant???

The EPCGlobal provides a standard EPC-Network containing the EPC-Code and infrastruture-components like the RFID-Tag and -Reader, the ONS-Server, the PML-Server and a RFID-Middleware called Savant.
On the one hand I found a couple of articles where the SAP Auto-Id Infrastructure (SAP AII) is said to be a "RFID-Middleware". On the other hand I found a lot of presentation sheets with illustrations of the SAP AII architecture where the SAP AII is connected to Savant by the device controller and to the ONS/PML Servers by SAP XI.
Can anybody inform me about the relationship between the SAP AII, the ONS/PML Servers and Savant? Is the SAP AII a substitute for Savant? Which component of the SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure asks the ONS-Server for the URL to a PML Server where further information about an object which is identified by the EPC code are located? Are product information stored on a PML-Server anyway? Or are information only stored in the ERP-Backendsystem?
    Thank you for your reply.

    hi.Dirk
1)SAP AII is a "RFID-Middleware", but mostly it is a RFID Middleware for business process. It focus on business more than RFID readers. So it is not a RFID Reader manager(Device connector, or something like that)
2)Savant is a specification or a product release by EPC global. You can download the savant specification on EPC global .
    http://www.epcglobalinc.org/about/AutoID_Archive/documents/6_auto_id_savant-1_0.pdf
Savant is also a product, many company IBM, SUN make their RFID Middleware follow the EPC savant specification. And also EPC has a RFID-Middleware call savant.
Savant is design to manager RFID readers, filter RFID tag information, and log events.
3)The relation between AII and savant is they are on the diferrent layer of RFID Middleware, they should be work together.
4)ONS is another EPC RFID issue, it is design to record RFID tag data. On EPC's idea, all the data about RFID tag should be record on ONS server. I do not know if it will come true in the future.
    5) On SAP solution, Most of the data is still stored in SAP backend-system(R3,SCM,BW......), and information about RFID, e.g. RFID tag, RFID device, tag event is stored in SAP AII. And you can use BW in AII, if mass data is generated.
    6) PML is just a RFID XML.

  • SAP AII 2.1 RULES and Activities

    Hello!
I have configured the Standalone Business Scenario for SAP AII 2.1 but am stuck on an issue :
If the reader reads a pallet at location A,Packs it to stock, then at another location B the pallet is loaded and finally shipped out.For instance if by chance the pallet comes into the proximity of the reader at location A that read it previously our scenario suggests that the pallet EPC should be discarded but on implementation SAPAII read the pallet again and performed the previous set of operations.
Can anybody suggest how to solve the issue.
    Thanks
