RG54GS & Nortel Contivity problems

Hi Guys,
I am having trouble in connecting to my work LAN via Nortel contivity client. If I plug a LAN cable into my toshibia Tecra laptop, I am able to start up the client and get into my works LAN. But via wireless I am unable to do so. I can start the client, but when I run work applications, like Exceed, I get no response, and the connection times out.
I am able to ping platforms in my work domain, but I can't connect to them.
I thought that NAT may have something to do with it, but then why would it work when I plug in a LAN cable?
I have reset the router to default settings, and the same result.
Any ideas on whay I could do?
Thanks
Dave

I have had the same problem with a Hp laserjet 1200, the bad news is look around the forums we are not the only ones. It seems the gateway jsut doesn't work with HP printers.
Could somebody please fix the problem or please tell us how to!

  • RG54GS Internet DHCP Problem

    I have this problem :
    - Whenever my cable-modem restarts himself or loose connection for awhile MSI RG54GS cannot obtain new DHCP lease ...
Goes like this .... all is working fine .....
Cable modem goes offline (for some reason) , MSI obtains from modem a 192.168.1.x IP and stops trying to renew IP .
In system log whenever my cable modem give MSI a ip like this , there are no new DHCP renew tries . I have to go to web-admin page , to internet zone and choose DHCP client again ....
    - Any ideas ???

if there's a possibility to set up on cable modem fixed ip, then set it up and...then set it up on router..

  • Will Nortel's Contivity VPN Client work with Cisco's VPN 3000 concentrator?

Hi, need help. We have VPN 3000 concentrator and a number of VPN clients (these are using Cisco VPN client).
We have one user that wants to use Nortel's Contivity VPN Client. Will this work with the Cisco COncentrator 3000?

Tricky question - in theory yes, if the nortel client follows all the ISPEC RFC's.
I did try to get the cisco VPN client working on a Nortel Contivity once - did not get it working - but did'nt have that much time to test and get it working.
My advise - Configure, TEST DEBUG TEST DEBUG!

  • Nortel VPN still broken with Airport Extreme firmware 7.1

I've just recently started using the NAT'ed mode of my 802.11n Airport Extreme and the the Nortel VPN connectivity is still broken with firmware 7.1.
I've setup a side by side config using the new Airport Extreme and my older Airport Express to make sure the issue is indeed with the Airport Extreme.
Here are the details of my setup:
    ISP: NTT/GOL B-FLET (PPoE)
Wireless Config #1 - Airport Extreme firmware 7.1
Wireless Config #2 - Airport Express firmware 6.3
Client #1 - Nortel Contivity VPN V06_01.014 Windows XP 802.11g
Client #2 - Nortel Contivity VPN V04_86.033 Windows XP in Parallels 802.11n
The odd thing is that it isn't totally broken. The VPN connection is made and low bandwidth transfers work fine (ie. ssh, http requests), but higher bandwidth transfer fail to complete (ie RDP/RDC, ftp's, Outlook xfers).
When my clients are on the Airport Extreme Network, they have the issue but don't have the issue on the Airport Express network.
Is anyone else still having problems with Nortel VPN ? Does Apple have any suggestions ?
    Thanks,
    Eliot

I'm using Apani's Nortel VPN client (the most recent version) on my Mac mini, and the Windows version on my Windows XP notebook computer. Both were broken with the original AEBS firmware (7.0), but now both work well with the updated 7.1 firmware.
Keep experimenting - I'm sure you'll get it working.

  • Private VLAN Problem

I have a 6509 running with a Sup720 and the latest IOS. Trying to configure several ports as a private VLAN with the below config. Problem is, in addition to not being able to talk to each other, hosts can't talk to the promiscuous port. Thoughts?
    vlan 172
    private-vlan primary
    private-vlan association 472
    vlan 472
    private-vlan isolated
    interface GigabitEthernet4/7
    switchport
    switchport private-vlan mapping 172 472
    switchport mode private-vlan promiscuous
    no ip address
    no cdp enable
    interface GigabitEthernet4/8
    switchport
    switchport private-vlan host-association 172 472
    switchport mode private-vlan host
    no ip address
    no cdp enable
    interface GigabitEthernet4/9
    switchport
    switchport private-vlan host-association 172 472
    switchport mode private-vlan host
    no ip address
    no cdp enable

That did the trick, thank you. I guess I missed that the first two times I read through the documentation. I still have one problem, though. I ended up configuring 5 ports, 1 in promiscuous mode in port 25, two in community mode in ports 11 and 12, and two in private mode in ports 13 and 14. The PIX was in port 25, the internet router and a Nortel Contivity were in the community ports as these need to talk to each other as well as the PIX, and two other devices that only need connectivity to the PIX were in the private ports. Traffic flowing from inside the network was moving through the PIX to the WAN router fine. Traffic flowing through the PIX to the private ports was working fine. Traffic through the Contivity to the PIX and the router were flowing fine. But, VPN connectivity through the WAN router to the PIX wouldn't work. It wasn't a configuration issue with the PIX or the router, because as soon as I put them all in a standard VLAN, it worked fine, so it had something to do with the PVLAN configuration, but it just didn't make sense to me. Everything else was working in all directions. Any ideas?

  • Nortel VPN Issues Returned with 7.3.1?

When I first bought my Airport extreme, I had to put it on the shelf for a couple of months because it wouldn't allow me to make connections to my firm's NORTEL CONTIVITY VPN server. A subsequent firmware update (maybe 7.2) fixed it.
Now, running 7.3.1, I'm having the very same issue again.
    Anyone else.
    Kenny

No Love. Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't do anything. I suspect that a previous post about the version of software is correct. The reason being: Our company has VPN servers in North America, Europe, and Asia. When Apple "Broke" the VPN function the last time, we were still able to connect to Europe (various users of Apple routers in the company). Then, when Apple fixed the problem with a firmware upgrade, we were able to connect to all three servers no problemo.
Now, with the 7.3.1 firmware upgrade, the problem returned exactly as it had before. To wit, we can still connect to Europe, but not the other servers.
    Regards

  • OEM Vista 64 bit finally installed with bootcamp

As indicated in earlier posts, both Apple and Fusion techs told me to give up on installing OEM Vista 64 bit -- despite the fact that other posters have successfully installed OEM Vista 32 and 64 bit. My install process is set forth below; I have some other questions re: Vista, some related partition questions and a question re: Fusion and Vista.
    Install of Vista:
    1. Used Superduper to clone Mac OS X and apps on the raptor in bay one to the Hitachi 1T.
    2. Removed raptor from bay one and booted up on 1 T on bay 2.
    3. Used Boot Camp Assistant to create a boot camp partition on 1 T of about 119 Gb.
    4. Inserted OEM System Builder Vista 64 bit.
    5. After following the instructions, I got to the point where I couldn't get the install to work back in March -- i.e., after selecting boot camp partition, the "next" button would not highlight and let me move on with the installation. I got past this point by clicking on a button on the far right (same page where I selected the boot camp partition) and clicked on "driver options" or some such item. This opened up a selection of items including "format." I clicked on format and the installation proceeded.
    6. I encountered another problem that took a couple of complete restarts and erasing of the the Hitachi 1 T and re-copying etc. with SuperDuper -- i.e., a black screen came up a couple of times and told me to hit any key (to reboot) -- big mistake. When I did this, the Vista installation disc started all over and tried to create another partition in addition to the boot camp one (but when I tried to proceed and select a partition -- boot camp did not show up. So Do Not Touch any key when the black screen comes up. The installation will proceed.
    7. Last glitch -- when the installation appeared to be completed -- after several reboots -- the Vista installation screen showed up again. I learned from several other experiences not to start the installation over. Rather, I hit the delete button on the screen (X) and forced a reboot.
    8. When it rebooted and sounded the restart, I held the option key down to get to the screen where I could open Mac OS X.
    9. I noticed that there were two window options but ignored them and opened Mac OS X.
    10. I hit the eject button and removed the Windows installation disc and went to preferences and start up and set Mac OS X as the start up op.
    11. I then rebooted and held the option key down so that I could open windows. When I did Vista 64 bit opened (but not at the higher resolution).
    12. I then inserted the Mac OS X disc (disc No. 1) and installed the drivers and other items from the install disc. Rebooted and higher resolution was there and keyboard worked properly.
    13. I then updated Vista (took long time and reboots) and eventually installed Sp 1 for Vista. Downloaded Bonjour to get the Brother laser printer on the Network to work.
    14. I also reinstalled the raptor and have been running the Mac OS X and apps off of the Raptor in bay 1.
    Questions:
    1. I can't seem to get the office Nortel contivity to work; it appears that there is some difficulty with Vista 64 bit. Any advice?
    2. Should I remove the Mac OS X and apps from the Hitachi 1 T from bay 2? Would this removal affect Vista (probably not)?
    3. If I remove Mac OS X from bay 2, I was thinking that I would repartition this part of the hard drive and create two partitions (for a total of 3 partitions counting the bootcamp with Vista). I would than make a Superduper copy of the Mac OS X and apps from bay one and just keep that periodically updated to have a current backup (I have the original 320 gb drive in a box with the original Mac OS X and apps as an additional backup). I would the other partition for storage. Comments?
    4. I still have not been able to get Fusion installed on bay one. Does anyone know how to completely uninstall Fusion? The Fusion techs have been clueless and apparently don't have a very good understanding of their own product. They still think that you cannot install OEM Vista on a 2008 Mac Pro; they tell me to come back after I buy a full retail version -- good grief!
Should I try to install Fusion on bay 2 and try to access Vista from there?
This install procedure is probably obvious to some but this is my first Mac and it definitely was not obvious to me. In any event, hopefully this lengthy description will help others who have been having difficulty in installing OEM Vista 64 bit on a 2008 Mac Pro.
Thanks to all for your advice and especially Joseph Wiedermann.

Can you please post this in the windows vista 64 bit solution thread? Here is the link.

  • NetWeaver Basis support...with a Mac???

Those of us who prefer a non-Windows desktop platform are often frustrated and disappointed with the lack of support we find for our platform of choice in the mainstream business world. But, again some of us are stubborn enough to stick to our guns and try to live an “alternative” lifestyle.
Recently, after being a full-time employee for over 12 years, I decided to become an independent NetWeaver Basis consultant. So, one of the first things I had to think about was having a laptop for my new business. Having recently bought a Macintosh laptop for my personal use (just a couple of months before I made up my mind about going independent), my decision was actually about whether or not to buy a Windows laptop or use my Mac and risk my future clients denying me access to their office networks.
    Why a Mac?
Being a Unix fan, I love the idea of having a Unix-based desktop (in case you weren't aware, Apple's operating system’s core is a BSD Unix called Darwin). I can run the Mac Terminal application and develop/test Unix scripts right there, and run SSH and X-windows and other Unix tools without the need for add-ons. Plus, audio, video, modem, wireless and every other piece of hardware on my laptop works like a charm out of the box -- which is usually not the case with most Linux distros. All that apart from the legendary simplicity and elegance of the Macintosh user interface.
But, as you probably know, not everything in a Mac lover’s life is sweet potatoes, especially if you work in the non-Mac-specialized IT world. Two of the main drawbacks (for me, anyway) are the relative shortage of free software and utilities as compared to Windows and Linux (though this is getting better as more people use Macs), and the lack of support from many software vendors in the business arena.
SAP, I must say, is one of the few large business software vendors that have always (since I can remember) provided a Mac client. Not as nice as its Windows-based cousin, but the Java GUI does the job (for the most part) ...in the ABAP-based world, that is. However, SAP does stop short of providing Mac support for all NW front-end components. And since lately I’ve been focusing on Portal and XI, I will need more than just SAPGui in order to support my future clients with my Mac.
So, this is where things start getting more difficult:
SAP’s official position on Portal Administration functions is that Internet Explorer (which only runs on Windows) is the sole supported platform. Nevertheless, I have tested most of the basic functions to work well on Firefox for Mac.
As far as XI, I believe the Java Web Start-based Integration Builder tools are also only officially supported on Windows. But since Web Start runs on the Mac as well, there is in theory no reason why the IB tools would not work properly on my laptop, and my initial testing of them has been successful.  By the way, the same goes for other Java-based GUI tools such as Visual Admin, SDM GUI, and even SAPinst. All of which I have tested to work ok - just for fun, as I usually prefer to run those tools via VNC or X emulation.
In any case, living outside or on the edge of official SAP support is not a wam a cozy feeling, if you ask me.
Some other things a NetWeaver consultant might need that you can’t run on a Mac are:
NetWeaver Developer Studio  (though I want to try tweaking the Mac version of eclipse, just for fun, but haven't had a chance yet).
Other specialized NW front-end components, such as the ones used for MDM.
    Microsoft Project.
    Microsoft Visio.
    NetMeeting.
So, with all of the above shortcomings and iffiness, who is going to try to support SAP customers using a Mac?????
    I, for one.
I'm not sure how successful I will be, but here’s my basic checklist for the road:
SAP SW:          SAP GUI for Java
              SAP Download Manager
    Browser:          Firefox
    Office suite:     OpenOffice.org
Project SW:     Project Viewer by Steelray
              Omni Plan
    Diagramming SW:     Omni Graffle Pro
Remote Desktop:     RDC client for Mac (from Microsoft)
              Chicken of the VNC
VPN clients:     Nortel Contivity and Cisco VPN clients for Mac
Oh! and, yes... Virtual PC for Mac with Windows XP Professional...to run IE, NWDS and all the other stuff you still can’t run on a Mac .  After all, I can’t afford not to be able to support my clients! I promise to use it only when nothing on the Mac will do ;). Perhaps I will be able to do without it some day?

    Hi all,
at first let me tll you, my engish is not the best.
The next I wont tell you is the important thing. I work as a SAP-Cosultant to develop different ABAP Report and WebAS BSP's. Since 1998 I use first PowerBook and now MacBook Pro.
I use this Machines, because, I am a great fan of Macintoh Computers and the Mac OS X TOO. For me it is simply to use, works in all kinds in all Customer-Networks no Problems with Firewall-Tools, and so on, and so on.
I work with the SAP Java-GUI. But in some kinds i need the Windows SAP Gui because the Java-GUI has Problems or can not do the work had to do.
For developing and testing the BSP-Applications I take Firefox on the OS X-Side equal on the Windows-Side. Firefox has very good tools for developing HTML like FireBug and Web Developer. The complete Pages the Custom was to see with teh Windows IE. In same cases I present the Aplication to the Customer with Safari und he ask me why the pages looks i Max OS X so pretty und with the IE so ugly. This is a very nice moment
But a last, nearly i have the same questons than Carlos Herrera tell us.

  • ARP detstination mac-address 0000.0000.0000

    Internet Router--->3550 Switch-->Nortel Contivity
    63.169.164.134-->63.169.164.140--> 63.169.140.136
All the devices are having public IP addresses and are in Vlan 100.
Sometimes the Internet Router is not able to ping or connect to the Contivity where as the switch is able to access both the devices (Internet Rtr & Contivity).
While checking on the switch & Internet rtr i capture the following logs.
    Switch#sh log

We have done a static ARPA entry in internet rtr for Contivity but still the issue remains same. The moment the issue persists again i tried to clear the arp on switch but it didn't make router to get reply from Contivity when i did the same clear arp-cache on internet rtr, it started getting communicate with Contivity.
I am not able to find the solution of this issue and the reason for that, now every time i have to do clear ip arp-cache on rtr whenever the issue comes down.
Also i want to understand the situation when a dest mac-address can be 0000.0000.0000.
Any help on this will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Bhupesh
If a router receives a packet to forward to a destination address which is on a local LAN but the destination IP address does not appear in the arp table then the router creates an incomplete entry in the ARP table (it is incomplete because the router does not have the destination MAC address and is attempting to learn it). The router creates the incomplete entry in the ARP table and sends an ARP request. If the router receives an ARP response then it puts the destination MAC address into the ARP table and the entry is now complete. If no ARP response is received the router will purge the incomplete entry. Note that the router can not forward the IP packet that caused the incomplete entry and the router will drop that IP packet.
In considering the problem with contivity I had been assuming that the problem was on rtr. But it occurs to me that it is quite possible (and even likely given the fact that you mention which is that in the problem the switch can still ping contivity ) that the problem is on contivity. I wonder if for some reason contivity gets an incorrect MAC for rtr? I suspect that clear arp on rtr fixes the problem because as it clears the arp table I believe that rtr will send a gratuitous arp which refreshes the ARP entry in contivity. In the time of the problem can you check the table in contivity?

  • Cisco VPN on Mac existing with Apani

    Hello:
I recently installed Apani VPN ( a Mac client for Nortel Contivity connections that connects through a browser) on the same machine with my Cisco VPN. Now for my customers with Cisco VPN connections I fail to connect with this error:
    51     11:12:50.183  09/16/2011  Sev=Critical/1          CVPND/0xC3400003
Function SocketApiBind() failed with an error code of 0xFFFFFFFF(ike-init-state.cpp:402)

Unable to bind to IKE port.  This could be because there is another VPN client installed or running.  Please disable or uninstall all VPN Clients other than the Cisco VPN Client.
Only problem is I cannot find this process in my Activity Monitor--I'm not sure what the process is. The is no application that I can see in my "Applications Folder".  I haven't been able to get help from Apani. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Cisco but no joy.
Any idea how I can get cisco taking over again? If I have to choose between the two it is more important to get CIsco working. I am running a Macbook with OS 10.6.8.
    Thanks.

Apple's support section (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306256) says "How to enable Cisco VPN connections
You should use Cisco's VPN client software to establish a Cisco VPN connection via an AirPort Extreme base station. Note: In the Cisco VPN client preferences, make sure the "NAT-T" option is enabled.
Note: Some corporate firewall configurations may cause issues with the Cisco VPN software.
Please contact AppleCare support if you are unable to contact a Cisco VPN server via Cisco VPN client software and an AirPort Extreme base station.
I'm experiencing the same thing. DellLatitude D610. Netgear rangemax wireless PC card (WPN511). I can connect to the internet but I try to vpn into work I get half way through the connection process and get an error which states" Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client. Reason 412: The remote peer is no longer responding. I've spent 2 hours trying different settings. I really want to stick w/the apple product but will have to return it if I can't get it to work. I need cisco vpn via wintel for work.

  • VPN lost in 7.3.1 Firmware Update

After updating my AEBS to 7.3.1, I was unable to VPN into our corporate network using the Nortel Client. I reverted back to 7.2.1 and was able VPN in. I tried all the other work arounds previously posted and nothing worked. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

After updating my AEBS to 7.3.1 I had same exact problem, my Nortel Contivity VPN client stopped working.
I spent oven an hour on the phone with Apple support who could not help me in addressing this problem and they also denied that I could go back to the 7.2.1 firmware version. They are total incompetent!
Thank you to this thread I'm now back in business!
For those who may not know, Apple actually has posted how to download prior verion of firmware at this address:

    Thank you to you all.

  • Installed a new WRT54GS ver 7 router

I replaced my BEFW11S4 router with a WRT54GS ver 7 router recently. I use two VPN's for work, one to my employer's network and one to a customer's network.  Since installing the new router, I can access the customer's network without a problem but I get a "Port not connected" error when attempting to connect to my employer's network. Any suggestions?

When you open the VPN software or connection client, it usually gives you the brand of the VPN. Like Nortel Contivity Software, etc.

  • WRT600N WRT310N PPTP will not work in some cases

    Hello All,
This is more of a warning than a request for help. If you are using the WRT600N or the WRT310N and you need to use PPTP VPN connections, these are not the routers for you!
The PPTP support only work with MS PPTP Servers, it does not work with other VPN routers such as Nortel Contivity's and others.
Please read other threads in this forum, in most cases the wireless connectivity does not work properly, and the router is prone to freeze, requiring it to be hard booted often.
(Mod note: Edited due to non-compliance to forums guidelines.)

Just to update everyone... Firmware Version 1.01.36 Build 3 does not fix the PPTP issues with the WRT600N router.
