RGB Channel Curves or Levels
Hello,
I would like to see the ability to adjust the black and white point of the R, G, and B channels independently, as can be done in Aperture and PS, as well as the tone curve for each channel. I like the LR interface and UI approach very much, so I would be looking for something that fits into this frameworkperhaps a "Red", "Green", and "Blue" tab at the top of the tone curve window as we now have for Hue, Saturation, and Luminance in the HSL panel?
Also, a thanks for the 0 - 100% readouts. I find this fantastic, and wish I had this option for readouts in PS!
Many Thanks,
Michael Morrison
Agreed. This is a much needed feature!!

RGB channels Curves adjustment please
Please, add the possibility to adjust individually each RGB channels in curves....
Are you saying that this tool is not UseFull ? Are you Saying that this tool is not usefull in Photoshop too ?
Look, It's okay for me if you like to cut your beefsteak with a butter knife.... But LightRoom is a production tool for professionals, and professional need precision and productivity.
RBG Adjustment tool is not about getting adjustment more easy, it's about getting precise and accurate adjustments in precise tones. Just try to do all this on the same image in Lightroom, and if you really can, for sure it's not faster as you could do it with the RGB Adjustment curves :
- increase the blues in the shadows
- reduce the blues in the Highlights
- reduce the reds in shadows
- increase the reds in highlights
- increase the greens in highlights
I'm looking forward to see how you do that in a fast way LR. -
LR4.1 - Tone Curve - how to adjust individual RGB channels?
Hi,
I am having trouble figuring out how to adjust the curve of individual RGB channels. I am assuming the LR4 Tone Curve works like the PS Curves dialog with the channel dropdown.
The LR4.1 Help says:
To make adjustments to individual points on the tone curve, choose an option from the Point Curve menu, click the Edit Point Curve button , and do any of the following:
Choose an option from the Channel pop-up menu. You can edit all three channels at once, or choose to edit the Red, Green, or Blue channel individually.
When I click the little icon in the lower right corner of the Tone Curve panel, the panel shrinks so that I don't see the Regions sliders. If I click again, they are visible again. I can't find where to select one of the three indvidual channels.
The Help refers to "the Point Curve menu." Where is the Point Curve menu? Is the Point Curve different from the Tone Curve?
If I right-click (Windows) in the curve dialog, the context menu has a Show Info option. I click it on/off and don't see any change or any info. Where should I be looking for info?
Thanks for any help here.
JohnGood morning John,
The point curve is the one without the sliders. The adjustments for the individual channels are only available with
PV2012. You must be editing a file with PV2010 or 2003. When in PV2012 you will see " Channels: RGB" below the curve window. Click on the doule triangles following the RGB
to pick the individual channel.

RGB Channel unavailable in Camera Raw under point in the Tones Curve
How can I use the the RGB channel in Camera Raw under Tone Curve?
Hi yariel83,
Make sure under the Camera Calibration tab that the Process is set to 2012. -
New RGB Tone Curve also a Basic Levels Adjustment?
Adobe Staff: at first I was pleased and then let down about the new RGB Tone Curve feature because I thought it allowed for Levels Addustments - as with so many other photo editing software including Adobe PS Elements where you can squeeze in the left and right triangles to ajust the blacks and highlights and midtones.
I was playing with the Lr4b RGB curve yesterday and - is it correct that it does essentially act the same as "Levels Adjustment" by squeezing inwards the blacks (lower left) and whites (upper right) points?
Thank-youYeah, but blacks and whites in the basic panel are better, and usually should be applied after you've appled the others.

YES - there is a custom tone curve - finally, it works great. I don't miss the old sliders a bit.
But still missing is the color curve tool, complete with color picker like in competing products.
Right now the only way to color an image is the split toning - that works a bit like a color curve but it is very restricted.
With the color curve You can produce color changes very easily and very intuitively.
I hope Adobe can implement it.
PS.: Another thing I find useful is a RGB channel tool where you can type in formulas. The implementation is rather simple, it just needs a formula parser. With 3 formulas a unique development reciepy could be created:
Example:
R = 0.9*R + 0.1 * G
G = 1*G
B = 1*B + 0.1
But I guess this is too technical for a product like Lightroom.function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
Which program has the color formulas you proposed? - or is that an original invention .
For Bibble 5 there is a plugin available called MathBox by Baruchel. It uses the public formula interpreter muparser.
The input variables are r (red), g (green), b (blue) and also h (hue), s (saturation), v (value) and l (luminance) which all values beeing between 0 and 1, except for h, which is between 0 and 2pi. The plugin also implements 3 sliders which control the value of user variables x, y and z.As You can imagine, that tool is extremely powerful for example to do film simulation.
Even if Adobe does not want to show such formulas to "the public", it would be nice to select certain recepies from a drop downlist plus one slider for a user variable. The recepies could be loaded from an XML file which can be edited by the adventurous. That would be really a great addon!

In my Camera Raw 6.7, when using the Tone Curve, the RGB channels are grayed out and can not be switched on, probably because the Raw Defaults are missing.
How can they be restored?
Thanks,
WalterI don't believe that individual color channels can be adjusted in camera raw 6.7, even though you see that.
They can be adjusted in camera raw 7.x and 8.x.
In camera raw 6.7 your always adjustng the composite RGB channels.

Rgb/lab curve question ,help me

in the rgb ,i can use the curve and i can make dark or bright some ares of the photo
in the lab mode ,i have luminocity channel and i can make more dark or bright some ares of the photos
well my question , is
is there difference, odds between curve in rgb mode(RGB channel) and lab mode (luminocity channel) ?
what does it change?
is there a profit, advantage in lab mode luminocity channel?
i mean i did not find a exhaustive answer in the manual , and i can' see differences
thank
have a nice dayWhat is your question? You've described what the program is supposed to do, but it's not clear what you're asking about. Do you need help getting started? If so, have you gone through the LabVIEW tutorials? You and look over the material in the NI Developer Zone's Learning Center which provides links to other materials and other tutorials. You can also take the online courses for free. Have you looked through the many examples that ship with LabVIEW for data acquisition?

Need iMac G5 (iSight) monitor calibration help (RGB Channels?)
I understand the need to calibrate my display so that the final print matches what I see on my display. I plan to use the Gretag Macbeth Eye One Display calibrator, which I have already used on my last CRT monitor, with good results. I needed to adjust the Brightness, Contrast and RGB Channels individually to get the profile on the CRT monitor. I cannot seem to find these same controls in the iMac G5. Am I just blind...or do they not exist in this computer? Please help! Thank you, Regina
iMac G5 iSight Mac OS X (10.4.5)You do not have individual channel calculation on an LCD at least not with the G-M software (apple's built-in calbrator does a software calibration for individual channels, but you'll still be closer with the Eye-One Match results). Brightness you can set with the slider in display or by using the keyboard controls. Contrast is in universal access, but you should just leave it alone. The default setting is the correct one for beginning a G-M calculation.
EDIT Are you aware that there was an update to the G-M software a couple of weeks ago? You can download it from their website. -
How to adjust individual RGB channels?
Hi there, is is possible on a iMac to adjust the individual RGB channels? if so, how? if not, is there anyway to control the colour temperature of the screen? thanks
Hi,go to System Preferences and choose Displays, from there choose 'Color' and 'Calibrate' and then check the 'Expert Settings' box. You can then vary the colour temperature and each channel, saving your results as a profile so it can be easily switched or applied to an indiviual image in Preview.

Scripting RGB channels for layers
When you double click on a layer in a Photoshop document, you can set each RGB-channel under "Advanced Blending". How can you script this?
There was quite a similar question regarding CMYK-channels, where MarkWalsh was recording an action. However, I'm still stuck with turning this recorded action code into JavaScript code. And I can't find any hints in the "Photoshop CS4 JavaScript Reference".
http://forums.adobe.com/message/2308538#2308538
Any idea?Marks code is using the script listener plugin, here is another example...
advancedBlend(false,true,false,80);
function advancedBlend(RED,GREEN,BLUE,opacity) {
function cTID(s) { return app.charIDToTypeID(s); };
function sTID(s) { return app.stringIDToTypeID(s); };
var desc103 = new ActionDescriptor();
var ref52 = new ActionReference();
ref52.putEnumerated( cTID('Lyr '), cTID('Ordn'), cTID('Trgt') );
desc103.putReference( cTID('null'), ref52 );
var desc104 = new ActionDescriptor();
desc104.putUnitDouble( sTID('fillOpacity'), cTID('#Prc'), opacity);
desc104.putBoolean( sTID('blendInterior'), false );
desc104.putEnumerated( sTID('knockout'), sTID('knockout'), sTID('shallow') );
desc104.putBoolean( sTID('layerMaskAsGlobalMask'), false );
desc104.putBoolean( sTID('vectorMaskAsGlobalMask'), false);
var list1 = new ActionList();
if(RED){
list1.putEnumerated( cTID('Chnl'), cTID('Rd ') );
}if(GREEN){

}if(BLUE){

? Selecting 2 of 3 RGB channels in to adjust in Levels
This is a CS4 question (and let me express my ingratitude to Adobe for dropping support for an $1800 set of apps).
In Photoshop CS4, using a G5 (non-Intel), in the Channels view panel (alongside Layers, etc), when it is displaying RGB, Red, Green,and Blue I am able to shift-click, on say, the Red and Blue channels to sleect only those two. The image still displays in full RGB. When I issue command-L (Levels) I end up with the basic Levels disalog box, and instead of it choosing by default "RGB" for adjusting, I now have "RB" and I can adjust Red and Blue together with the sliders, avoiding the green channel. I can do this in, obviously, three combinations.
For some reason, when I try this same thing on a friend's Intel Mac with Photoshop CS4 (same!), shift-clicking the Red and Blue channels in the Channels palette chooses them but the image display now displays without the Green channel influencing the image, thus rendering it unusable for adjusting two channels at once.
I figure that since I am using the same App version on each Mac, maybe there is a setting somewhere I cannot find, or I am forgetting a step on the way to my friend's computer.
Q: How do I choose 2 channels in the Channels palette while still having my image display in full color, and also be able to choose those two channels for adjustment in the Levels?
For those of you who are wondering WHY I would want to adjust 2 channels at once, here's an example: an image looks lsightly too yellow, bt ther eis no yellow channel. Yellow is full Red & Green, so, using my method, I can choose both those channels, and reduce the yellow by reduing R and G together.You should be able to shift click the red and blue channels, then make the rgb composite visible (make the EYE visible by clicking in that box)

In most converters today it is possible to apply color curves. Will it remain as it always was or we can expect this feature in LR3?
I understand that could be nicely done in Photoshop, but I'm sure the feature would be useful.
Thanks.You forgot one more thing to draw.
The color channels should be visible on the compisite RGB curve. Otherwise, you have no idea that you might have some manipulations in them.
Oh, and by the way, it'a nice way to add Levels too, without adding much UI overhead. The sliders are handy for adjusting teh white and black points (dragging the points themselves on the curve is a bit challenging). -
Camera Raw - Enable RGB Tone Curves
In Camera Raw, the Tone Curve Channel selection is disabled. How can I enable it to allow me to adjust specific colors in Camera Raw?
I’m using Photoshop CS5, Camera Raw version 6.7.0.339 on a Windows Vista 64 bit system, and my camera is a Nikon D90.
Thanks,
JackI don't think you can...ACR 6.7 was a crossover version tho have compatibility with LR 4 when it was released, as a result it was set to allow processing of certain features that were in LR 4 (and ACR 7). While the RGB curves show up dimmed, I don't think ACR 6.7 allows actually adjusting the RGB curves. I think the only way to get them is update to CS6 and ACR 7.x.
