RGB to CMYK conversion issue- Pulling my hair out@

Hi there-
I have downloaded a VECTOR image from Shutterstock, and it was built as an RGB file. When I try to convert it to CMYK (File-->Document Mode-->Concert to CMYK), it totally whacks out the image. I have tried everything I know how to do, and can't figure this out. I've tried changing the colors in the palette to CMYK, but it doesn't convert them permanently.
I'm attaching two files (as JPEGS so you can see the problem), one shows the sunshine image nice and smooth. The other is after the conversion to CMYK.

Object> Flatten transparency (check preserve alpha transparency with slider to 100 vector)
Change color settings (edit> color settings) to emulate Illustrator 6.
Convert to cmyk mode
Results
There were two main issues converting to cmyk.
Use of screen blending mode and the gradients themselves.
Screen blending mode was described in previous posts.
The gradients look also changed when converting from rgb to cmyk. If the screen blending mode was switched to normal, when converting to cmyk, the gradients would not look the same.
Flattening transparency is not an elegant solution, but it is a quick and dirty one.
Mario described this method in a previous post.
Depending on your color settings, it may yield unwanted artifact colors. Turning off CM, setting to Illustrator 6 emulation, will not yield the artifacts.

Is it not possible to create a text box, fill it with dynamic (data driven) text, but make the font size either scale up or down automatically, so that the entire text box is filled? This is a feature in PrintShop Mail Pro called COPY FIT. but no such feature in Indesign??

lol... it seems to work, but I have another huge problem!
Apparently .CSV files cannot contain page breaks in the data! The data I am trying to merge is a 'letter', with paragraphs, line breaks, etc.,
But, after data merging, it ignores page breaks and only merges the first paragraph of each letter. (sigh)
Solution? Hopefully, an EASY solution. lol as we have thousands of records.
Is there a third party indesign plugin that will allow .xml, or .xls data merge import??

I've managed to play music wirelessly from my macbook to the express/stereo, however i cant surf the web because i can only presume i haven't set up the express to join my sky network. So therefore the only way to surf the web at the moment is swap wireless devices from express back to my current sky network, then the airplay stops obviously.
I've tried to join the express to my sky network/netgear router, at face value it looks simple. The sky network name automatically comes up and then all i have to do is select the correct wireless security which i haven't got a clue which one my sky/netgear router is using, then type in the password which i presume is the network key number on the back of the netgear router? However its not connecting?? I am doing something wrong?
Can someone please give me some guidence on how to connect express to my current network?

Suggest that you ask Sky what type of wireless security that is used on the devices that they provide.
Once you have that information, you can choose the correct matching setting when you configure the AirPort Express to "join" the Sky wireless network.
The "password" would be the normal phrase that you use to connect to your wireless network at the present time.

RGB to CMYK conversion in Java

Hi All,
I want to take an image maybe in a jpeg or gif format or rgb and convert it to a series of CMYK images (one for each colour). If there an easy way using the API of java 2, or JAI. If not does anybody no an algorithm I can use to implement this conversion.

The algorithm is fairly easy..
For RGB with components ranging from 0-255...
K=255-(max(R,G,B));
C=((255-R)-K)/(255-K);
M=((255-G)-K)/(255-K);
Y=((255-B)-K)/(255-K);
Thats the quick simple conversion. You may alos do more complex conversions based on how pur the magenta, yellow, and cyan colors are.

In device manager it's showing as apple mobile device in recovery mode with an exclamation mark

When I tried to update in device manager it says access denied
Have also tried reboot without success

RGB to CMYK Conversion

Does the newer version of Photoshop Elements 13 offer the capability of converting/saving files in CMYK mode like the full commercial of Photoshop does? My older version of Photoshop Elements does not.

If your program is Photoshop Elements, then you have posted in the wrong forum. Somehow your thread has been posted in the Adobe Premiere Elements Forum (video editing). As far as I know neither Photoshop Elements nor Premiere Elements support still images with the CMYK color profile.

Pulling my hair out over IE8 issues with spry menu bar

Its a classic story, but for the life of me, I can't figure this out. I've seen it in a hundred different forums (all slightly different versions of the same problem) . I've put together a horizontal spry menu bar (version 1.6.1). It works fine in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc..., but goes nuts in IE.
layout and positioning of the submenus cascades horizontally, goes far right, etc.

I'm sure it's just a line or two in my CSS, but I sure can't find it.

Try adding/modifying the following

There needs to be an !important for the float so that it overrides the JS.

IChat AV, pulling my hair out

My hair is receding more each day as I try and troubleshoot this. . Hoping Ralph can help.
I have a MacMini at home, 1.4 GHz processor, 1G RAM running 10.4.6, new iSight camera, can't for the life of me get iChat AV to work.
Most of the time, when I try and connect to someone (another Mac user) I get an insufficient bandwidth error, a "User did not respond" error, or a "User declined Chat request" error. When I or someone else tries to connect to this computer from somewhere else, we get the above errors, but occasionally we'll get the audio but no video. Connection doctor shows essentially no video being received. I've checked Activity Monitor and there is nothing else hogging the processor. And, here's the curious part. . .
This Mac Mini connects to the Internet either via Airport which is in turn connected to my cable modem, or directly to the cable modem with the Airport Base Station as a bridge. When using my powerbook wirelessly on my home network, iChat works flawlessly, so I presume it's not my cable modem, but rather something about the Mac mini computer I have.
I tried unplugging the ethernet cable, forcing the Mac mini to use the airport connection instead, and iChat worked fine yesterday, but today even that doesn't work.
I've got none of the add-ons, no Virex, and have run speed tests and all is well. Why can I connect with Airport from my powerbook and iChat AV works fine, but with the Mac mini it doesn't? Aren't they using the same common output to the internet, the Cable modem?
I've changed the Quicktime streaming settings - no help. I've read FAQ's and troubleshooting until I'm blue in the face. Here's hoping someone can help.
It's Father's Day and I was counting on being able to chat with my kids at home, as I'm away. I'm really bummed.

In the Internet tab is how the Airport connects to the modem.
As the Modem is in Bridge mode if this screen is set to DHCP tehn it will see the ISP issued IP address which we know is happening.
In the Network Tab, yuo should turn On/Select Distributing Addresses. This will turn On the Airport (to computers) DHCP and both computers will then be able to connect properly.
The default range for the Airport is 10.1.xxx where the Airport it self is 10.0.1.1
This option allows you to change that addressing.

Want to pull your hair out? Try moving the HD/SD combo shows.

Seems simple enough, right? You download an HD show on your desktop, which also comes with an SD version for your iPhone/iPod, and you want to put it on your laptop. Ah, things are never as simple as they seem. Try it yourself, or, simply back up your show (both versions), delete it from iTunes, and then try to put it back in your library.
When you attempt to copy the shows back, only the HD version will copy over. The SD version will not be copied. If you try to manually copy the SD show, it won't. If you try simply moving it to the library on your own, next to the HD version, iTunes won't recognize it.
There is no obvious or simple way to move or restore a combo HD/SD show. It's easy to move the HD or SD show into your library, but not both so they function as they did when first downloaded from iTunes.
Has anyone else seen this issue? I was finally able to figure out a method to get it to work, but it's very convoluted and involves multiple steps that aren't intuitive.

maybe it does have to do with other apps. i wish i would have paid attention to when this started occuring so i could narrow down which application might be the culprit.
the only thing that seems to be working right now is if i take my loop folders out of library/audio. i dragged some to my desktop (don't ask me why i did this) and imported them from there. for some reason they are staying in my loop browser. also when asked where i wanted to put the files, i selected them to go where the rest of the loops are at....in the proper directory. i'm thinking of trying this with all the loops and see what happens. something is corrupted and i'd like to know what and why. i admit, which i am embarrassed about, my computer is a mess. i really need to organise it and all that. actually, i am hoping hoping hoping to get a macbook just for my music. it would make life easier for me seeing i am quickly running out of room on all my hard drives.
the only loops i am having trouble locating are all the ones i made recently. which i am upset about. but i am sure they are here somewhere. i just need ot wade through the mess to find them.

Pulling My Hair Out! K7N2 Delta2 & MSI NX6200AX (solved, see link last post)

Posted about the troubles more then a month ago here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=96306.0 . Quick history, Built my Teens a PC with the Delta2 MB, an old XP1700 CPU, some old DDR, and my old (OC'd for 3 years and still running great) Gainward GF2-Ti. It worked fine. Ran most games just fine and they were happy. Then Son #2 wanted Battlefield 2. Hmmm...it needed Dx9c shader support...which the old card didn't do. So I got (Newegg) a MSI NX6200AX (GF6200 - 128MB - 9c shader support) and its been nothing but nitemares ever since.
It will boot up (did a clean copy of XP even!) in Windows. But as soon as I open a program that does any crunching (Like say trying to load nVidia drivers) the Monitor screen goes "black"....and the little lites go back and forth like Kit the car on Nightrider!!!!! Meaning it has lost signal.
Put the old card in and it fine!!!!!!!
Things I've done trying to fix it:
Reloaded Windows XP SP2 (right now SP2 is not installed yet)
RMA'd the Card for another one.
Bought a new 450W Rosewill PS. (was a nice old Enermax)
Swapped in my 19" Trinitron (thinking maybe the monitor couldn't support the card since thier monitor is a cheapo 17" CRT. Same thing happened to my monitor!)
Dug through the Bios with a fine tooth comb.
Today I added new Kingston DDR I mentioned in another post. Premium HyperX 1GB in Dual Channel. I also re-seated the CPU with new AS5, cleaned out everthing. PC booted up much faster.......
So I tried to load the drivers......AND IT STILL HAS THE SAME PROBLEM!
This is an AGP card, like my old one. I'm at a lost here. I'm about to re-install the old card just so I can get them off my PC. (I took a month off working on thiers so they've been living on mine)
Any ideas? The MB is Fine, Memory is fine, Power Supply is fine, CPU fine.........

Because you are using a card that has higher power requirements for starters, there could be other factors involved, but that would be the first thing I look at. DOT is Dynamic Overclocking Technology and it's integrated in MSI's drivers. I have a sticky topic about it in the VGA section.
Without being able to try the card in another PC, and/or trying a more powerful PSU, the troubleshooting is going to be hampered.
You may consider taking the card to a local shop to see if they can test it for you, and see if the problem follows the card.
I can't count how many times products are RMA'd becuase of the inablity to properly troubleshoot a problem.

I am about to pull my hair out. Web mail, mail, vpn.

I admit i'm a newbie!! Isn't that waht lion server was made for after all. When I login into webmail it replicates the username for the address instead of logging into the email account I assigned to the user. ex = John Doe is user i assigned him [email protected] Instead when I lof in to web mail I get John [email protected] Needless to say no email services work. I ping smtp.server.com i get response. I ping imap.server.com I get response. Help. Not a single part of this server has worked except for whats on the home page. wikis, people etc. please help. something is fundamentaly wrong.

I'm not quite sure from your post what the issue is, but I'll have a go at it.
Let's say you have a mailserver server.com
You create a user joe and in workgroup manager you give him an alias admin
Assuming you have OD running when you get to the login interface for Webmail the _user_ joe needs to log in with his password.
If you send mail to his _alias_ [email protected] it will be accssible from his user email account, accessed by logging in as _user_ joe If you send mail to [email protected] it will be accessible at the same login in the same mailbox.
You are _not_ creating a separate user or email account when you create an alias. All the mail goes to the user account that has the alias created on it.
Hope that's an accurate interpretation of what you are trying to do.

Had Enough / Pulling My Hair Out

I am extremely dissatisfied with all my Apple products currently and the issues just seem to get worse and its just getting to the point where I want nothing to do with Apple...
6-month old £1,500 Macbook Pro Retina - 16GB RAM - 2.8GHz i7
Doesn't wake up from sleep without restarting and losing anything open
Connects to a BT Wi-Fi despite deleting all BT networks from my list of preferred networks on a daily occurrence
Internet sometimes just doesn't work, despite being connected to the Sky Hub and all connection lights working, Safari just freezes and I can see Dropbox has disconnected - although other devices in the house are working fine
Kicks other devices connected to the Bluetooth speakers off, then cannot play anything to it without constant interruptions
Continuously told there is a problem with iCloud and have to re-enter my password almost everyday to see there is nothing wrong (as far as I can see)
Emails are no longer pushed to my Mac, I have to hear the notification on my iPhone then click Get Mail (or wait a few minutes)
Photoshop CS6 crashes, which I really didn't expect to be a feature on a machine with such high specification
I cannot connect to shares on my Western Digital NAS
Calendar refuses to open in full-screen mode despite me always using in full-screen mode and other apps (Mail, Safari) opening in full-screen mode when they have been closed in said mode
Safari is SOOOO SLOW; difficult to scroll down a page, always restarts and crashes
Finder opens folders however it see fits, despite having gone through and set the default view for my main folders
Calls from my iPhone ring on the Macbook for quite a while after I have picked it up on my iPhone (and this is a super pain when the laptop has connected to the speaker and its ringing full blast whilst I am trying to speak to someone)
2-month old iPhone 6 - 64GB
Cannot select which folder sent items should be saved to for one of my mail accounts (well I can, but as soon as I navigate away from the screen it goes back to the wrong one)
Phone crashes for a few seconds when opening any app
Constantly told there is an iCloud verification issue
Constantly informed that iCloud Photo Library has not updated for 7 days
Also that I need to connect to Wi-Fi for iCloud Photo Library to update - whilst actively using Wi-Fi
Also that iCloud is not signed in and iCloud Photo Library cannot update, then when I go to the settings there is a verification issue
Takes about 10 seconds for a call to connect (before ringing)
(Granted, a few years old) Airport Express in the room next to the router
Cannot play music to it without intermittent interruptions
Cannot play music if the device being played from is anywhere near the Airport Express or anywhere along the direct line between the Airport Express and the router
Sometimes can't even connect to it
...These are just a few things of the top of my head.
It's these small things that make it infuriating for me to complete simple tasks and sometimes just make the laptop/phone completely unusable. I would have expected better from something that isn't cheap at all. Maybe I am expecting too much?
Tempted to bin it all and go back to paper, pen, and landline as it seems nothing with regards to technology goes without mind-numbing interruptions.
I am sure there is no patch to install that will fix everything, but if you are an Apple expert and know how I might go about fixing just one of the above, I would really appreciate your response.

I have just been on the phone to Apple who instructed me to reset my SMC and PRAM which seems to have fixed the issue of waking after sleep, but see below for the results of the process...

I'm about ready to scream. I really wish dreamweaver was more
user friendly, but I get the distinct impression you need to attend
a year long college course to begin to understand how it works.
Took me hours to get the frames straightened out, but there
are two annoying problems - one is that annoying gap between the
top and bottom frames, and the other is some of the bottom frames
aren't aligned with the top frames, eventhough both are center
aligned, both 800 pixels wide.

No matter what the advertisements have led you to believe, DW
will punish
you badly if you do not take the time to learn about HTML and
CSS so that
you can be comfortable working with code.
The gap between frames would be fixed by adding
frameborder="0"
to your frame tag, e.g.,
<frame src="top_frame.html" name="topFrame"
scrolling="No"
noresize="noresize" id="topFrame" title="topFrame"
frameborder="0" />
<frame src="home_frame.html" name="mainFrame"
bordercolor="#FFFFFF"
id="mainFrame" title="mainFrame" frameborder="0" />
The alignment issue comes to you complements of the browser
when it needs to
drop a vertical scrollbar in one of the frames, of couse
throwing the
alignment off. The only fix would be to force both frames to
always have a
vertical scrollbar, which you can by styling each page in
those frames with
this CSS rule -
html, body { min-height:100%;margin-bottom:1px; }
You REALLY need to not use frames, though. It's rarely the
optimal choice
for your layout and will, as a new user, drive you aroud the
bend, as it
already seems to be doing. You just have no idea....

Flash - Pulling My Hair Out - Please Help!

Hi everyone. I support multiple users with flash. Recently,
some of my users are having an issue with some websites that
display flash content. Specifically, they will appear to load the
content, but only have a blank space (no X's or error messages).
What's stranger is that other flash sites (Adobe's tester.. the
M&Ms site.. many others) work perfectly fine.
Here's an example:

On this site for some of my clients, the map simply won't
load. You'll notice the transition effect (which is visible), but
no map. Just white. I've tried this on IE 7, Firefox 3, Latest
Opera.. all the same result.
Here's what I've tried so far:
- Put afflicted sites in the trusted security zones
- Uninstalling/Reinstalling v9
- Installing v10
- Cleared registry keys of all flash content.. install v9.
- Cleared registry keys of all flash content .. install v10.
- Update Java (just in case) to latest build
- Ran flash uninstaller with /clean switch.
- Cleared browser cache
- Deleted browser objects
- Tried a flash9f build someone suggested
All no dice. I don't understand why flash seemingly works on
many web sites but not all of them. I'd chalk it up to poor
programming, but it works fine on my machine, which has an
identical image to one of the machines not working properly.
Can someone look at that site.. what it's trying to load..
and maybe guesstimate a course of action? It's not a mission
critical problem..but it's driving me nuts! I'm almost ready to
format these puppies!
We're running XP SP1.

Do you have a small preloader to ensure that the script
doesn't run until all the frames have been loaded? I've had similar
problems and now all my stuff have a small preloader
upfront.
