Rh 9.1--webhelp errors

Hi, I'm generating WebHelp from RH 9.1. I'm on Windows xp.
When I attempt to open the webhelp, I get the following error in
the browser screen:
Your browser does not support frames. We recommend that you
update your browser to a version that supports frames.
To view the Help system without frames click on this
hyperlink.
And the Internet Explorer window has "blocked active content"
bar at the top. If I click to accept active content, help displays
fine. Any ideas how I can prevent this error?
This does not occur when you generate Webhelp from RHX5,
right?
thanks, Nina

Hi ninacrum
If you want to banish the pesky little yellow information bar
so you don't see it when you are testing, perform the following
steps in Internet Explorer:
1. Open IE
2. In IE, click Tools > Internet Options... > Advanced
tab
3. Scroll the window down until you see the Security section
4. Place a check mark in the check box labeled: Allow active
content to run in files on My Computer
5. Click OK to dismiss the Internet Options dialog
Your end users would also need to do this if you intended to
install WebHelp on their local PCs.
Cheers... Rick

  • RH8 WebHelp "Can't Move Focus to the Control..." Error

While testing my help (primary layout is WebHelp) on my local
machine, the help books/topics freeze after a series of clicking
them open and closed. I'm not doing this rapidly or in a manner
unlike a regular user would. IE 6 gives me a page error. The
description reads "can't move focus to the control b/c it is
invisible, not enabled, or of a type that does not accept the
focus." The URL points to the whtdhtml.htm file.
I've searched the forum and when this problem came up before,
an answer was in a tech note. I read the TechNote rb_95432 on this
issue and it suggested editing the webhelp4.js file; however, I
don't think this file is generated by RoboHelp 8, as it doesn't
appear in my generated help files.
Is there a different file I should be looking at? Is this a
problem with my HTML that I should seek or an Adobe compilation
issue with IE 6? I recently upgraded my help project from RoboHelp
6 to RoboHelp 8 and am on a Windows XP machine.

  • WebHelp js syntax error

    Hello All,
I am getting what, as far as I can tell, is a random javascript error. When I hit save/generate to create WebHelp Pro output locally (still in testing right now), I occasionally get an error that when viewed states, "whtopic.js syntax error, line 2098, expected char. 1". If I open this js file in visual studio, line 2098 is blank. Any ideas on why this would randomly occur?
    Thanks

Thanks to both of you. To clarify, yes the output skin is generated, but the main body of the browser is blank with a cycling (it flashes on and off) javascript error in the bottom bar of the browser. It's hard to show a screenshot of that. It does not seem to be one specific topic that I was most recently working on that is causing the issue. As I previously stated it seems to be random, which is frustrating. Also, using Rh 10, but I'm limited to Window's XP and IE 8, which I'm sure could be part of the unreliablity issue.
    I appreciate the feedback

  • Search Error in Compiled WebHelp

I am using RoboHelp X5.02. When the WebHelp system is placed
on the web server, and a user attempts to use the search feature,
the results only say "Searching..." and a message appears in the
    status bar: "Error on page."
For at least two years the search feature was working
perfectly. This error starting appearing recently.
When I test locally on my own computer, I do not receive this
error. However, when it is placed on the web server (not using
Enterprise), the search does not work.
This help system is fairly extensive, comprising about 600
text files and well over 1500 image files.
Does anybody have a solution to this error?
    Thanks,
    Anne

It is possible that an entry in the search database is not
    pointing to the correct location.
But the problem is server response time, I think.
RH divides the search chores by using a multilevel database.
Keywords and pointers are grouped alphabetically into several
files. They reside in the whdata, whgdata and whxdata folders. A
master file says, for example, that Aardvark to Donkey is in the
first one, Dumbo to Fox in the second, and so on.
The search looks first in the master file and consults only
the relevant file, which makes it faster than starting with A.
However (I'm guessing here), this depends on all the files being
resident on the PC. When the search goes looking for a hunk of the
database that isn't loaded, you get the error.
You can test this. When you search for something beginning
with "A", does it work better than for a keyword starting with "T"?
Does a search for a "G" word sometimes work, and sometimes
    not?
Same for the index, except the index starts to load before
you enter the term. If it's not completely loaded, it works for A
    but maybe not for Xylophone.
This brings me to my favorite pet peeve.
Disclaimer: I am not an expert in the following subject, but
have a strong hunch. Feel free to disregard or correct me.
The number of impediments to server response time is growing.
Let's assume hardware and transmission lines are not to blame.
Programs that run network traffic cops and source authentication
now look into some places where they previously did not, I believe.
    Maybe at the packet level?
When the highway's smooth and the weather's clear for a
caravan, how many tollbooths are ahead?
As I say, I hope some networking/security expert will explain
    why I'm wrong.

  • Error message when displaying webhelp

We have created webhelp in Robohelp 7 and placed the
generated help on a server. We
have created a customized browser window to display the
    context
sensitive help online when it is accessed from the
    application. When a
user accesses this help for the first time they get the
    following
    message.
    "Line: 569
Error: 'null' is null or not an object in the file
    whtopic.js"
The help is then displayed and next time they access context
    sensitive
help they do not get this message. Any idea on what this
    message is and
how to get rid of it?

  • RH7 Error: Failed to read from log... Failed to generate WebHelp Pro

Installed RH9 trial on Windows XP PC. Then, generated an existing project using RH7 to a new C: drive directory location on the PC using the same name. Renamed the project files in that C:drive directory to a test name and opened the project's .xpj file in RH9.  It converted cleanly.
Now, when I go to generate the RH7 original project from the original server directory, I receive:
Error: Failed to read from log (file name) .log.... Internal error encountered,  Failed to generate WebHelp Pro.
Does the log file keep track of the previous generation (time stamp, etc), since this RH7 generation has a skip in it for the one generated to the C:drive?  I've compared the log files from each run (.txt files) and don't see a difference. I even copied the log file from the C:drive run to the Server directory. No luck.  Any ideas?

    Hi John,
Thanks for the prompt response.  I am trying to evaluate RH9 / RH Server 9.
When I generate RH7 projects, I’ve always put the server (RH7 Server) directory reference in the ‘Output Folder and Start Page’ field.  This directory reference is where the compiled output ends up right? In my case, it’s in that field as:
    PBSrobohelp\D$\RoboHelp <file:///
PBSrobohelp\D$\RoboHelp>  Web Files\PBS Unit Processes Manual.  I’m not aware of a C:Drive local copy of the files. Doesn’t it go out to the server output for the .log file in question?
For the test, I took an existing project in RH7 and replaced this server reference with a C:Drive local hard drive directory reference and ran the output to it.  Then I went to the C:Drive directory and changed the project name, because there doesn’t appear to be a way to do a ‘save as’ on a project – RH7 wants to keep that name badly.  I then, shutdown RH7 and started RH9.  I opened the .xpj file from the new test project copy. It recognized that it was from an older release and it converted the test copy to RH9.  It converted cleanly with about 2 inconsequential document warnings but did not create a TOC.  I looked it over and saved it in RH9 – it was already my test name.
The original RH7 project opens fine in RH7 and the Test RH9 project opens fine in RH9. So I think I have a good test copy.  It’s just that when I point the RH7 original to the Server Output folder (which has its files) it gets the error on generation.
We are evaluating RH Server 9 but I haven’t attempted to publish anything to it yet. I’ve stayed  purely on my desktop.
    Hope this clears it up.

  • Undefined is not an object error when using the Output Generator with Glossary Restyling script to create WebHelp

When I use the Glossary Hotspot Wizard to create links within my topics to the terms, I then generate the project using the script (because I want to use popups instead of having the text display in-line). I did not edit this script before running it - do I need to? If so, where does the script reside? Any suggestions would be appreciated so that I can get this working as intended :-).

The error occurs during the WebHelp generation. If I generate the project
without using this script, there is no error.
    The error indicates

  • RH8 "Kindly generate WebHelp SSL layout" Eclipse script error message

I give. It seemed to offer help, of the kindly sort, but in fact it ends the process without doing its job of producing Eclipse help.
Searching the Help for this error message gives no clue. "WebHelp SSL layout" returns no help results.
Here was my process: Word import to RH8, generate WebHelp, then run RH8 Tools>Scripts>EclipseHelp
I notice there is a WebHelp.ssl file in my project directory.
Are the scripts still in Alpha state... the script appears to be eHlpDhtm.js, I tried to edit it in RH8 but got another error, "navigator undefined".
Any ideas, before I go back to Dreamweaver.... ?
    thanks, -Dee

How to create Eclipse Help from RoboHelp 8.
    1.    Go to Tools->Options: Check flag “Convert RoboHelp edited topics to HTML”
    2.    Create an empty directory say "MyHelpPlugin" under plugins folder of Eclipse. You can find the plugins directory in the Eclipse Installed folder.
    3.    Generate WebHelp SSL
    4.    Open Scripts Explorer pod, View->Pods->Script Explorer
    5.    Run the Script “EclipseHelp.jsx”
    6.    Select the generated webhelp SSL folder i.e. WebHelp (<name>) under !SSL! folder.
    7.    Click Ok
8     In Select Eclipse Plugin directory, choose the same folder as in Step 2 ("MyHelpPlugin”) under plugins folder of Eclipse.
Caution: Contents of the folder would be deleted, so double-check the folder selected.
    9.    Click Ok
    10.  In “Describe plugin.xml file” dialog, specify the name of Help and provider name
    11.  Click Ok
    12.  View help in Eclipse by Help -> Help Contents
And you should be able to view your Help as a Book in Eclipse..!!!

  • Published Webhelp TOC books will not expand (Java Error)

    Hello,
I hope someone can help!   Our  published project (Webhelp) had been working just fine on IE8.  I'm not sure if there was an update to the browser, but suddenly none of the books will expand and the following Java error displays:  Help! My users are not happy.
Message: Object doesn't support this property or method
    Line: 892
    Char: 11
    Code: 0
    URI: http://apps-intranet-dev.avnet.com/em/DevTrain/GenesisTraining/WebHelp/whthost.js
Ps: I made sure my Robohelp software had downloaded the latest updates and then re-published the project. That didn't help.

That looks more like a javascript error, not a java error. Different things.
Please see the Sticky Topic Before You Post and note the section Include the Edition and Version.
Does the output work when accessed from the folder to which you generate, which should be local?

  • Error Message when trying to "publish" webhelp file.

I need help please! After generating the webhelp file, when I click on the publish button, it starts to do what it is supposed to do then stops...giving me an error message that "file is already in use." Any ideas on how to fix this? Tnx!

Forget trying to "publish"....I really just want to send out the htm file out through email for review....Is that possible? When I tried it before, it looked like it was trying to open the file from my temp directory instead of where it is actually located.....

    Hi,
As it seems that this error is triggerd by a custom javascript (modal.js on line 94), you may want to evaluate your script. The following links may be helpfull:

  • WebHelp Template Error: cannot resolve macro

    RoboHelp HTML 5.0.2 Build 801
    Word 2003 SP3
I have been working fine until this afternoon. I tried to
generate webhelp in two different projects. In the output window I
see messages through Updating files, and then a message flashes and
it goes to done, but nothign is there to view.
The message is something like Template Error: cannot resolve
macro WHH#78 or something like that. I really cannot read it.
I have look for the answer on this forum and in the Help
system, to no avail. I will be leaving soon but will come in the
morning and try to start troubleshooting again. Any ideas that
might help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks for your time.
I am using RoboHelp HTML 5.0.2 Build 801
I have created 5 or 6 help files. I always open them with
RoboHelp HTML because the primary layout is web help to be
    published to the web.
I always use the Single Source Layouts in the Project tab to
generate Printed Documents. I usually use the generate primary
    layout for the web help.
This is the exact error I get, no matter which of my projects
I try to generate web help for:
Template Error: can not resolve macro: WH_CSH2_HTM
Finished compiling WebHelp in 6 sec(s)
Should I reinstall WebHelp to fix the corrupted template? If
so will I have to restore my default.css?
I am a really plain bread and butter user. I have not
imported any templates or customized any templates. I have always
just opened my projects with ROBOhelp HTML and generated.
(Successfully, I might add, up until now).
Thanks again for any help you can give me.

  • WebHelp 5.10.001 JavaScript runtime error

Using WebHelp 5.10.001 (Adobe RoboHelp 11, WebHelp 5.50) and am receiving the following error:
JavaScript runtime error: Object doesn't support property or method 'RegisterListener'
The above occurs on js file: whproxy.js
    function RegisterListener(framename, nMessageId) {
        var wSP = getStubPage();
        if (wSP && wSP != this) {
            //return wSP.RegisterListener(framename, nMessageId);
        else {
            return false;
So I commented it out to avoid the error being thrown. What is the fix for this?

Could you please check that Robohelp 11 is updated to the latest update and also try to clear the cache and temp files from the machine and test the output.
Also could you please also check to login with any other user account in your machine which has the complete admin rights on it.
Is it possible for you to share the generated output with us or the project.
    Regards,
    Rajeev.
