RH 9 Search Ignores Some Words in Topic Title

RoboHelp 9.0.0.228/Server 9
WebHelp Pro
RH 9 Server reports indicates that end-users are not finding topics using keywords "kaiser" and "backorder."  There are topics that contain these words and the words are actually included in each of  the topic titles.
I checked the following:
Project settings.  These words are not on stop list nor the ignore list.
Topic properties.  The "exclude from search" box is not checked.
FYI - project was upgraded from RH x5 to RH 9.
Any suggestions on resolving this issue?
Thank you,
Eva

Hi Eva.
What happens if you search for those keywords when you launch the help via the Web Administrator? If they don't show up there, try generating webhelp output and seeing if they show in that. If they do, I'd delete the output from the server and republish to make sure you have an absolutely clean search database.
If none of this works, can you see if there is some rhyme or reason behind this. For example are all the unfound search terms from one RH project? What other search terms in those projects do work? That sort of thing.

  • RoboHelp/Word 2002: Topic Titles/ID Automatically Changing and an Unregistered Routines Message

I’m posting a problem/solution that my team ran into
recently in hopes that it will save other people time if they find
    it also.
    Problem:
I have a Help project created on an XP machine, using
RoboHelp Classic, with Word 2002. There are over 1500 topics in the
project, It is compiled as Webhelp, contains 1,667 objects, and is
    22.8 MB in size.
While working in my project this week, I noticed 4 of my
topics in the RoboHelp Explorer view suddenly had a prefix of
"placeCity" in front of the topic title. It only appeared in the
explorer view and the Properties dialog, but not in the document or
topic itself. When I tried to change the topic title in the
Properties dialog and save, it acted like it saved, but when I
looked in the explorer view, they still had the strange, new
prefix. Then I noticed approximately 6 or 7 topics had the words
"State" and "stockticker" added to the topic IDs which showed up as
broken links. But when I looked at the compiled Webhelp file names,
    they looked normal.
I exited RoboHelp. When I went back in, I received the
following message: "RoboHelp Explorer has detected that there are
unregistered routines used by the following features in this
project. -Html Topics or hotspot links to Html pages displayed in
the Help window. -Link to a Html page, displayed in the browser. Do
you want RoboHelp to make the necessary updates?"
I never saw this message before so I selected Yes. (This
message also appeared to another user on our network, crashed their
computer, but their project was fine afterwards – they were
using a Word 2003). I don't know if selecting Yes stopped any more
chances of RoboHelp automatically renaming topic titles and topic
IDs or what it did. I was afraid I might have a virus, so I spent a
whole day running virus/spyware software. The results found NO
virus but I did have some Malware which I removed. I didn't know if
this caused my problem with RoboHelp or not.
    Solution:
We had other users guide us that it could be similar to the
font problem (with KB917334) that people were currently running
into. We checked and found a Microsoft patch had been loaded around
the time that our problems started: KB917335 for Word 2002. We
deleted the patch, rebooted the system, deleted all of the rtf
files from project, and then started RoboHelp. All issues were
corrected. We have now turned off automatic updates to that
computer until our release has gone out.
    Text

OK and thanks very much for checking that the HTML output is
not affected by this problem. At the moment all I can say is that
Adobe are looking into it but I don't know what they have found
    yet.
Changing the help type might not make you the most popular
person. I cannot say how much work it is but it's not a five minute
task. The problem your company has though is the winhelp has this
problem and at the moment you cannot get around it, assuming you
have tried all the suggestions that have been posted. That may mean
that there is little option but to go down the CHM route.
The only other thing that comes to mind is whether this
problem is RH related or Help Compiler related. If it is exclusive
to RH generated winhelp, then maybe some other tool is an option.
If it is Help Compiler related, it won't matter what tool you use.
Have you tried creating another project to see if you can
change topic ids in that? Has anyone else come across this problem?

  • Topic titles in Search always showing up in English

We are working with a RoboHelp HTML v8 project with 247 topics.  Inside each topic, we are using conditional build tags to mark the content for each language inside each topic.  So for each topic file, it has a section of English text, French text, German text, etc.  Each marked with a build tag indicative of the language.  When I compile each CHM file for each language and open one of the non-English help files and click on Search and enter text, the topic titles shown are in English.  If you click on one of those in the list, you see the preview of that topic with the appropriate translation shown.  My question is if there is a way to get a translated topic title to show in the search results list instead of the English text?
The only way I see to do this is to create multiple topic files (a new topic file for each language for each existing topic file in our project).  I would rather avoid having to do this.  Is there any other way of doing it?  Thanks!

  • Is it possible to ignore noise words conditionally in working with Full text search containstable

I have a question on stoplist file. I need to search for exact phrase string("this is the incident") which contains   noise words. As part of the FT search engine, during parsing it eliminates noise word and search on remaining string in
    the given phrase.
let us say there are 10 rows which contains the term "incident" in the FT table . and 1 row which has the exact phrase.i.e."this is the incident".
if we use containstable() to search for "this is the incident", we are getting 10 rows instead of 1 row.
To resolve the issue, we have 3 solutions
1.either stoplist file needs to be modified to remove the words (this,is,the)
    2. set stoplist = OFF.
    3.empty stoplist.
Apart from the above solutions, is there any better solution with out touching noise words file list.
If any solution that provides flexibility to ignore noise words conditionally at one time and not to ignore them.
    Please provide your suggestion.
    kkprasad

One question that I ask is:  Why would I want to exclude noise words?
Noise words were created to limit the size of the full text indexes and avoid processing the many 'this', 'is', and 'the' common words.  But the disadvantage of doing so is that you cannot find some things as you would like.
My feeling is that computers are more powerful and have more storage and it is often better to just index everything.  As long as your search does not include 'the', then the large number of 'the's in the system will pretty much be ignored.
NOTE: If you change the noise words, including SET STOPLIST = OFF, you have to rebuild the index in order for it to implement your decision.
Of course, for very, very large full text indexes you would need to test.
Is your full text search on relation database columns, e.g.  Description NVARCHAR(1000)  or are you searching Word, Excel, and other more complex data?
If your full text is relational columns, it might be that you could:
    1. Select only the fulltextkey into a temp table (e.g. #FTSfulltextkey) from the full text index using noise words.  That would give you 10 rows.
    2. Then directly query the table to find the string as you define above.  (But remember that punctuation and symbols are generally ignored by Full Text Indexing, but would still be there in the string of text.)
    SELECT *
    FROM MyTextTable T
    JOIN #FTSfulltextkey K
    ON T.fulltextkey = k.fulltextkey
    WHERE T.Description like '%this is the incident%'
Full text search is powerful, but it has limits. And the behaviour changes depending on the Language of the search.

  • Firefox randomly does an automatic search for a word I type and redirects to some website. Any ideas why?

I've been having this problem for awhile now. If I type a word while using firefox (in a form, searching a page for that word/phrase, etc.), Firefox will later (at a seemingly random time) do an automatic search for that word/phrase and redirect me to some site (e.g. if I search a page for 'history', Firefox will at a random time, redirect me to, for example, history.com). I have no idea what might be causing this, and it is really annoying when I'm filling out a form online and Firefox randomly goes to some site, interrupting what I was doing at the time.

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode? <br />

  • Extra words keep appearing in some topic titles

Using RoboHelp for Word X5, with Office 2003.
Something very odd keeps happening to a couple of my topics. The topic title is supposed to be "Copy Buildings or Structures", and when I have the topic open in Word for editing, the topic properties display correctly. But when I access the topic properties from the RoboHelp Explorer window, the topic properties display "placePlaceNameCopy PlaceTypeBuilding or Structure". I've corrected the properties and saved the document, but it keeps reverting back to that strange name.
I even deleted the topic (heading only since I didn't want to have to recreate the content) and recreated the topic with the same name, but the problem came back.
Luckily, this doesn't seem to affect the Webhelp output and this problem is invisible to the end user, but I'm just curious if anyone has seen this and knows what it's doing...?

  • How to search for a word in a text editor

    Hi,
I have created a custom container and added some text to it. Is there any method to search for words in this?

    Lilan,
To search a character field for a particular pattern, use the SEARCH statement as follows:
    SEARCH <c> FOR <str> <options>.
The statement searches the field <c> for <str> starting at position <n1>. If successful, the return code value of SY-SUBRC is set to 0 and SY-FDPOS is set to the offset of the string in the field <c>. Otherwise, SY-SUBRC is set to 4.
The search string <str> can have one of the following forms.
    <str>
    Function
    <pattern>
Searches for <pattern> (any sequence of characters). Trailing blanks are ignored.
    .<pattern>.
Searches for <pattern>. Trailing blanks are not ignored.
    *<pattern>
A word ending with <pattern> is sought.
    <pattern>*
Searches for a word starting with <pattern>.
Words are separated by blanks, commas, periods, semicolons, colons, question marks, exclamation marks, parentheses, slashes, plus signs, and equal signs.
<option> in the SEARCH FOR statement can be any of the following:
    ABBREVIATED
Searches the field <c> for a word containing the string in <str>. The characters can be separated by other characters. The first letter of the word and the string <str> must be the same.
    STARTING AT <n1>
Searches the field <c> for <str> starting at position <n1>. The result SY-FDPOS refers to the offset relative to <n1> and not to the start of the field.
    ENDING AT <n2>
Searches the field <c> for <str> up to position <n2>.
    AND MARK
If the search string is found, all the characters in the search string (and all the characters in between when using ABBREVIATED) are converted to upper case.
    Pls. Mark

  • When I go to google on firefox and search for a topic, I try to open a website and another website (morsearch, clickkick, etc) will open up instead into a new search engine with the same topic . What is this?

I go to google. I type in "plants". A lot of sites will pop up in google. I click on a site (does not matter which usually). The site will then start to switch to a new url from (click kick, morsearch, etc) turning into a new search engine with the same topic and more options. I never get to the page I want unless I type the url directly into the address box. It always comes back with a search engine. So far I have found this only happens while starting in a search engine. When I get into the actual page, everything is fine. I am using McAfee for security and it hasn't caught a virus or anything yet. Help please! Thanks!

  • Different Color Text of Topic Titles by Child Project in Search Results List

Does anyone know how I can change the text color to indicate the source project of a topic as displayed in the Search Results list?
I have followed Peter Grainge's directions for setting up a parent project that has several child projects, one of which contains outdated version-specific information. Thanks, Peter!
I would like it to be obvious to the user before they open a topic from the Search Results list that it is from the old legacy project.
I have found where the font is set, (thanks to the RoboWizard), but I am not a Javascript programmer and am uncertain how to code the "if document is from this project, then use this font" logic.
I would also like to put a "caption" below the "Search Results per page" line to explain the purpose of the color change.
I am using RoboHelp HTML 8.0.2. I generate WebHelp output which is then FTP'd to our server.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Leon,
Let me make sure that I understand your suggestion - I should change the title of each topic in the "legacy" knowledge base so that they each include a short identifier, such as "First Topic - Legacy"? If so, I suppose that would work, but I'd have to change 1,000 topics. The topic titles would no longer match the filenames (I'm trying to freeze changes to the old knowledge base to which there are many links from our user forum), which I suppose is not a big concern at this point.  I'll run some tests.
That has also raised another question in my mind, but I'll post that separately. It's about the way Robohelp selects the text that is shown immediately after the title of the topic in the Search Results list.
Thanks for taking the time to help!

  • Tell me Logic for search for duplicate words(or strings) in a large file.

Search for duplicate words (or strings) in a text file containing one word per line. For each word that occurs more than once in the flat file output should be as follows
<word> <number of occurrences> <line numbers in the file where the word occurs>
For example, if the word Hello occurs thrice in a file at lines 100, 178 and 3456 the output should read
    Hello, 3, [100, 178, 3456]

Incidentally i wrote similar code some days back. You need to do some modifications to get the exact output you want, but i hope it will be of some help.
One more thing its written using JAVA5

private static void findDuplicateWords() throws IOException
              Collection<String> words = new LinkedHashSet<String>();
              File file = new File(COLLECTIONS_TEXT);
              StreamTokenizer streamTokenizer = new StreamTokenizer(new FileReader(file));
              int token = streamTokenizer.nextToken();
              while(token != StreamTokenizer.TT_EOF)
                   if(token == StreamTokenizer.TT_WORD)
                        words.add(streamTokenizer.sval);
                   token = streamTokenizer.nextToken();

  • Search for more words one time

Goodmorning, as long someone could help me with the other issue http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1057325?tstart=0 I have another question for you.
I need to search for a specific list of words but I want to search only one time... So for example if I'm searching 3 different words HELLO - GOODBYE - CIAO I want that acrobat perform the searches in the same time and let me see how many times the words are repeated.
I try with the advanced search but I can only search one word at time...  I see there is a command under tools>protection>find and remove text (hope I have translate right from Italian software) to search for different words in the same time but the problem is that it can't report how many times thw words are repeated. As you see I need a mix of the two tools
    Do you have some suggestions?
Hope to read you soon. Thanks,
    Luca
PS: I know I can do that with the boolean expression but in this way acrobat doesn't separate the rusults.

It will work with any of the smart album criteria - file menu ==> new smart album
The easiest way to see is to take a look at what is available there - and make a smart album or two - if you don't like them just drag them to the iPhoto trash and do another one

  • Searching for a word or phrase in a file on NSS Pool/Volume

I have encountered a strange issue in that if I search for a word or phrase in a file at any level of the volume, from the root, down to sub folders, I get different results from 2 or more PC's.
Workstations are all Win XP SP2, Novell Client 4.91 SP4 for Windows
Server NW 6.5 SP6 with all post SP's installed.
    I have ran a nss /PoolRebuild=POOLNAME and a NSS /VisibilityRebuild=VOLNAME
There is only one volume on this pool.
And I still encounter the same results.
    As one example:
On my Admin workstation When I search the top level Folder of Closed Client folders for the word chronology, I get 2 files returned named chronfile1 and chonfile2, when I search from any other workstation (I have tried 4 different workstations at this point) at the same folder level, for the same word Chronology, I get multiple files with the Word in the File, but I do not see files chronfile1 or chronfile2. Likewise, the file names returned form the search results on the other workstations, are not returned in the search list ran on the admin (Mine) workstation. And yes, I am logged in as admin on the other workstations when running the search.
So far, this issue is only appearing on 1 volume.
    Thoughts?

I ran a NSS /PoolRebuild last night which fixed an issue the workstations not being able to see the 2 files in question.
Previous night I had just performed an NSS /PoolVerify.
Part of the other anomoly, the other workstations seeing more files than the admin workstation (I feel so Stupid, after 25 years you think I'd be able to spot the obvious) the reason the other workstations were returning files that the Admin workstation was not - Admin workstation doesn't have Word Perfect installed.

  • How to apply conditional build tags to the topic title that is displayed in Search tab of CHM?

I have the project in which 2 different words are used to reffer to one objects (this word/term depends on the customer). All other information related to functionality, steps, etc. are common. So:
In the help content (body of the files), I created 2 conditional build tags (CBT) for these terms.
In TOC, if topic title contains the term, I created 2 different topics reffered to the single topic file, but the title of the topic shows correct term (depends on CBT).
File names of this topics contain only term1.
The problem occurs when I generate CHM for CBT2 and search for the term1 (marked with CBT1) using the Search tab. All occurrencies where term1 presence in the file name, appear in the found results.
How can I resolve the issue?
These topics must be found by search (that's why "Exclude from search" option is not a decision).

Ahhh, you are correct. I believe it was Version 10 introduced that.
So here's what I'd suggest. Even though you are unable to use a variable in a Topic Title, it can still be used in other places such as the TOC, the Index and in the Topic content. So I'd still recommend that you declare and use a variable for those items. Just to simplify things.
As for any topics that have the term in the title, you could create two topics. One with the term one way and the other with the term the opposite way. Then use a Conditional Build Tag to exclude and remove the one that shouldn't be found.
This may cause you a bit of a maintenance issue by having the same topic content in more than one place. (one for each topic)
So to overcome that, you would be able to add the main body information to a topic and use an Inline Frame in the two topics that would then simply be shells with appropriate Topic Titles. Either that or declare a snippet and use the snippet in both topics. Put the main part in the snippet.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How do I search for adjacent words within MS WORD?

I am new to Mac. I need to search WITHIN MS Word Documents for specific phrases. Example: Jim is a good boy. Spotlight will find all documents containing those 5 words, but not those 5 words together. There has to be a way...
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

First, thanks, I did. My naive take is that new plug-ins wouldn't be required.
Second - I don't know about Google finding every document, but it returns some pretty impressive results, and fast (so long as Google indexes the page in the first place of course). You've never used this feature? I do it all the time when I want to see if there's an internet version of a document I have in my hand.
Here's a random example the feature in action - I went to boingboing.net and snagged a phrase from the October archives: "You should give props to BabyStyle.com for the blue octopus costume". Here's the link to the October page:
    http://boingboing.net/200610_01archive.html
and here's the link to the successful Google search:
    http://www.google.com/search?num=50&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&c2coff=1&client=firefox-a &rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=%22Youshould+give+props+to+BabyStyle.com+for+the+blue+octopuscostume%22&btnG=Search
Pretty impressive - the internet is a big place!
Thirdly, there was a program written for OS 9 called "Gopher" that did just that. It was pretty handy. Come to think of it, it may have been written for System 8! It vanished from publication before there was even a web for it to be distributed on, and when I switched to OS X, it wasn't working well under 9. Of course outside of the personal computing realm, there are well known database programs like Lexis and Nexis that perform exact phrase searches on their databases, which are pretty extensive (at least as large as most document collections on most personal computers, I'd venture). In fact if you've never used those programs they have some pretty powerful functions, like searching for any occurrence of a word within so many words of a second target word.
I'll give you a couple of examples of where phrase searching might come in handy. Suppose I have a collection of e-mails or correspondence (I guess we all do) and I want to find the one in which I facetiously repeated the punchline to the chicken joke - "to get to the other side". (You have to grant I might have a reason for wanting this particular e-mail, okay?) Of course if I search on "get", "other" and "side" I may wind up with four or five hundred results; those are pretty common words. That doesn't help me much. A phrase search, however, will yield, I dunno, three or four documents. Bingo.
Or, here. I work in an office creating documents all day long. I've been working in this office, on PCs, for 16 years. That's a lot of documents. I may create three dozen or more on a single subject. The documents are all on the same subject and all pretty much have the same words in them. Maybe I've got a single paragraph printed from one of them and want to find the source document. A simple word search will yield back 80% of the lot. A phrase search typed in from the paragraph is almost certainly unique, however, and will give me my document in a blink.
(Um, I'd have to move all the documents to a Macintosh to do this, but you get the point I hope.)
Spotlight says it finds "anything anywhere" on your computer. I would use a feature like this *all the time*. Why shouldn't it be able to do it?

  • Adding keywords to a topic causes search to return file names instead of topic titles

When I search for a term in my WebHelp Pro project, the topics returned are shown by file name if the topic has anything in its Properties > General > Keywords field and are shown by topic title if there are no keywords defined for the topic.
I've confirmed this behavior by adding and removing keywords from topics and watching them alternate between being shown in searches by file name or by topic title.
Obviously, I want topics to be displayed by topic titles in search results no matter if they have keywords assigned or not.
Any idea what would be causing this? Is this a known bug?
Here's some additional information. For this problem to occur, these four conditions must be true:
The topic must have manually added keyword(s) in the Properties > General > Keywords field.
The topic title and the file name must be different.
One must be searching for one of the keyword(s) added in step 1.
Occurs in WebHelp Pro when published to a remote server.
Talks with Adobe today are inconclusive but it appears that this was an unknown bug. Maybe I'll get a free t-shirt or something.

    Hi Rocky,
Log on to the Robohelp Configuration Manager
Uncheck the option "reindex documents at server".
Republish and check. If issue exists try restarting the Apache/Tomcat Server.
    That should work for you.
