RH HTML search tab results

Hello,
We're using TCS, RH7 and FM8 with all updates and patches. We
compile a CHM file with RH from a FM project Imported by Reference
into RH.
We select Search Tab in the Windo Properties dialog box.
Tri-pane Tabs and Windows area. When we generate the RH project and
perform a Search using the Search tab, the file names show up in
the Select Topic to Display area, and the first page of the
selected file shows up when selected, with no indication of where
the search topic is.
What setting am I missing or using to make this happen? I
want a list of the topics (headings) containing the search text,
not a list of FM file names.
Best regards,
Karen Gross

You have an option in RoboHelp when you import files from
FrameMaker which allows to control your topic names. If you select
<$paratext> and you are paginating the FrameMaker files based
on say "Heading 2", the name of generated HTML files is determined
by your <$paratext> in Heading2. RoboHelp makes the topic
titles of generated HTML files same as the HTML topic names. When
you search in WebHelp, it displays the topic titles which contain
the search term.
If you control the topic filenames, you can get the strings
you want to show up in Search results

  • Searching for a term using the Search tab in HTML Help doesn't find all relevant topics.

I'm using the Search tab in the HTML Help window to search for a few words.  But those words are not being located within the topics.  For example, one of the words for which I am searching is Australian.  I can find the topic that contains that word using the Contents tab.  But the Search tab doesn't find it.  I have even tried copying the word from that topic into the Search box but it is not found.
Is there a known bug in HTML Help search capabilities?

Is this a stand alone CHM file or is it merged? If it is merged, does the word appear in the search in the CHM containing the topic is searched? I assume you've checked that your Stop List doesn't contain the word being searched?

  • Opening search bar results in a new tab

My search bar opens the results in a new tab, but, when I click on one of the links on the results page, FF no longer remembers the search results page (ie. the Back button does not work). This problem goes away if I set the search bar results to open in the current tab (about:config > browser.search.openintab > default). Please tell me how to get the back button.

You can try to set the value '''browser.search.context.loadInBackground''' to true in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config about:config].

  • RoboHelp8: Search Tab takes time to show results

    Hi,
I am experiencing yet another irritating problem with RoboHelp 8. When I deploy my web help, my search tab takes longer than usual to load search results. The Contents, Index and Glossary tabs are working fine.

    Hello Seemeen,
Before publishing your project please check the Web Help Properties (from SSL Layout) in "Search Options" (Next Page), "Enable substring search" must be unchecked, screenshot attached :
    Hope this help !!

  • Firefox search engine results not appearing in a new tab

how do i configure FF (3.6.13) to display search engine results on a new tab? It used to do this for me but now doesn't anymore, and I can't find any config settings to change this.

Type '''about:config''' in the URL bar and hit Enter. <br />
''If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.''
'''browser.search.openintab''' is the preference, '''true''' is the value.

  • Unable to add Search Tab to HTML Help

In RoboHelp HTML 6 I check Search Tab in the Window
Properties dialog but after I compile, no Search Tab is available
in the compiled help. Other Window features seem to switch on or
off as expected. This project was converted from WinHelp (RoboHelp
2002 for Word) at some point. I'm not sure what import/conversion
process was used to move it to HTML Help. Other project aspects
seem to work OK. Previous WinHelp to HTML Help conversions have not
experienced this problem. Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Hey Rick,
I actually tried that pretty early in the process, but still
ran into the same problem. The good news, though, is that I seem to
have fixed the project. It's a bit of a kludge, but whatever works.
I opened the *.hhp file for the project in question in
Notepad, then opened the *.hhp file for another project that had
the search tab, and compared them. I ended up making the following
changes in the problematic project's *.hhp file to make their
    settings match:
In the OPTIONS section, changed Full-text search to Yes.
In the WINDOWS section, changed the settings for the
project's main window to the following:
    "Project
    Title","project.hhc","project.hhk","","",,,,,0x40040520 (etc.)
That last number in the line was something entirely different
originally, and I think that's where the problem lay. Saved and
closed the file, then recompiled and the tab now shows up.
    Hope this helps!
    Best,
    Melinda

  • I just downloaded FF4 and now the "SEARCH" tab located at the center of my home page isn't functional. I unisntalled and reinstalled but the result is the same.

    Question
I just downloaded FF4 and now the "SEARCH" tab located at the center of my home page isn't functional. I uninstalled and reinstalled but the result is the same.

I think what I did was right clicked on the toolbar when I went to the tab and properties to find out the name of it. I then opened the extensions and add-ons and found what it was there (I don't remember the extension)., You will find the mess involves the homepage tab you have. Click on your tool bar for customization and put the home page away. This doesn't remove it but it will stop bing from showing up. Instead, my tabs now go to a Google page but I can't put in a homepage. Instead I bookmarked Google to my menu bar and when I open a tab I just click that! Cheaper than a trip to a computer vet.
The only option you will have is to remove google, but if you do, you loose all your goodies. Though I did not try this myself, I fear saving your tabs, bookmarks , etc. will store with it, whatever this bing thing is. Hope this helps

  • Topics with ampersands (&) show up as question marks (?) inside Help's Search tab

    See the attached image.
    In the image:
Item A shows the Topic Title inside RH.
Item B shows what I'm typing in the Search tab of the HTML Help file. (I'm typing "GD&T").
Item C shows the list results. Notice that when I type "GD&T" in the search tab, the results return "GD?" ion the list of results.
In short the "T" is missing and the ampersand character shows a question mark character instead.
How can I get it to show an ampersand in this list and not delete the letter following the ampersand.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jared

Some co-workers of mine eventually helped fix this.
In the Topic Title field for topic titles that have the & symbol, you need to type &#38; in place of just an & symbol. This causes the & to appear within the Search tab list results. Note however that if you add this topic onto the Table of Contents, it will display &#38; there, so you will need to rename the TOC to just use &.

  • How to hide fields in BP search tab of CIC  Winclient ????

    Hi All,
In IC winclient my requirement was to hide the IBase fields from BP search tab. I have done that by changing the html file  in SMW0 and assigning it in profiles for search strategies.
But, now when I search for BP in CIC0 it doesnt get searched. I mean after search, the result fields dont get filled with any data. If I revert my changes everything works properly.
Are there any other changes required to be done ????
Am I  missing some step(s) in between ??
Any suggestions would be of great help !!!!

That is exactly the code I have deleted.
I have carried out the following steps :-
    1) Copied HTML obj. - CRM_CIC_EMP_SEARCH to ZASH_BPSEARCH. Deleted exactly the code you've specified.
    2) In define profiles for search strategies
    - Copied ISM_BPSEARCH to ZASH_BPSEARCH
    - Copied CRM_ISM_SUBCREATE2 to ZASH_CRM_ISM_SUBCREATE2
    - In search attributes->General tab-> Changed HTML for BP Search to ZASH_BPSEARCH.
    3) In Customer specific system modi->Define customer specific search control-> Copied the following entries
    O_ISM_BPSEARCH     CCMIBCOMPFIELDS     DESCR     X
    O_ISM_BPSEARCH     CCMIBCOMPFIELDS     DEVICEID     X

    O_ISM_BPSEARCH     CCMIBCOMPFIELDS     PRODUCT_ID     X
and changed O_ISM_BPSEARCH to ZASH_BPSEARCH and removed the X flag from all entries

  • Index & Search Tabs have garbage characters and no search box

Index and Search Tabs have numbers in place of the "search"
box. Although, the generated view looks perfect, the file
(WHLST10.htm) contains the same numbers and missing search box. I
am using X5 version. I import a MS Word file without an index and
am not selecting "Convert Index" on Conversion Options. Have also
removed "Auto-create styles from inline formatting" and "Convert
references into hyperlinks." Still getting same result. View
    attachment.

Hi STCSherri and welcome to our community
I'm guessing that you have either enabled the Section 508
check box or you have opted for the "Pure HTML" output. Both of
these settings are found in your Single Source Layouts pseudo
folder. Expand that folder, then right-click the layout and select
    Properties from the context menu.
The first dialog you see should have a check box labeled
"Section 508 Compliant Output". If that check box is not selected,
click the Next > button twice. You should be at the WebHelp
Options - WebHelp screen. In the "Navigation Pane Preferred Format"
area, where is the option configured? My guess is that it's "Pure
HTML". Try changing to perhaps DHTML > Pure HTML.
If all your options appear to be correctly configured and you
are STILL seeing the odd behavior, I would then ask which browser
and version you are using to display your help.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Search tab malfunction in RoboHelp 8 (WebHelp output)

I am trying to create a WebHelp output after importing a Word doc into RobobHelp HTML 8.  Once I generate WebHelp as the primary layout, the TOC and Index tabs work fine.  However, the Search tab isn't working: Regardless of the key word I use in my  search, the only result I get is a link to the imported doc (which imports as a single topic).  This isn't a helpful Search function at all.  What am I missing?

  • RoboHelp X5 "no topics found" in "Search" tab

There has been one workstation used for RoboHelp HTML
development/compiling and has no issues. A second workstation was
built with the same application/version (RoboHelp X5.0.2). After
compling projects on this second workstation, when a .chm file is
opened and the users perform a search via the "search" tab there
are "no topics found". If the same project is complied on the
initial workstation, topics are found via the "search" tab. Anyone
have an idea on what is causing this problem on the newly built
    workstation?

Below is information from the workstation that does not seem
to be compiling correctly. I registered the .dll, but the "search"
still did not function (did a compile of the project need to occur
after the re-registration?). I will be getting the result from the
workstation that is compiling properly shortly and will post the
    result.

  • Missing: Search Tab

I'm trying to output a project into a CHM file using RoboHelp 8, and the resulting output completely lacks a Search tab. It's got a Contents tab, an Index tab, and that's it. (The project doesn't have a glossary, so the lack of glossary is no big surprise.) I searched through the forums, and the closest problems I saw were from people whose search tabs "didn't work." However, the fix in that situation (re-registering some DLL files), didn't work for me. I'm hoping someone out there has some insight into how to find a missing search tab. Thanks!

    Hi Shawn
Sorry, but I'm unfamiliar with Frame at this stage of the game. I think the placeholders come into play here. So you may need to experiment with inserting those.
When you create output from RoboHelp, you are able to choose the specific Index you wish to include in the output. Have you ensured you have done this? Additionally, I do believe that for a merged CHM setup a couple of things have to be in place for the index to show.
The master project has to have at lest one keyword defined and mapped to a topic
The index must be configured as Binary
To add a keyword to the master you will need to display the Index Designer pod. Unfortunately it's not straightforward. You do it by expanding the Index pseudo-folder in the Project Manager pod. Then double-click the index listed.
Now you add a term to the index.
From here you ensure Binary is enabled. Click File > Project Settings...
Then when you generate output, ensure you are pointing at the right index.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Search tab has stopped working in .CHMs

    I maintain several .CHMs for a client. For a reason I can't
figure out, the Search tab of any .CHM that I've updated recently
no longer works. Any search attempt results in "No topics found." I
verified that any older versions of .CHMs have working Search tabs,
but any .CHM that I've updated this year no longer has a working
Search tab. I even took one of last year's projects, made
absolutely no changes, recompiled, and voila, Search is broken.
I have verified that I've got all settings set correctly on
the Windows Properties dialog, plus all required .DLLs are
    correctly installed and registered.
The only change to my setup is that I upgraded to IE7.0
(finally!) earlier this year. And I've kept up with all Windows
updates. I have been using and continue to use RoboHelp HTML
X5.0.2. (I have not upgraded because, in my opinion, it was not
worth my $500. I'm self-employed and am holding out for a more
    robust upgrade.)
Any ideas? Frankly, I assume that a Microsoft upgrade has
messed up the works and I'm stuck, unless I shell out bucks....
    Nita Beck

Thanks very much for the reply, Author Care! As I said, even
for a project whose Search tab had been working and for which I
made absolutely no changes, recompiling that project now yields a
broken Search tab... Wassup with that??!!!
Including only an Index is not practical for the particular
Help system I'm working on today. It's loaded with esoteric terms
and strings of numbers (thousands and thousands) that users must be
able to (and, up until now, have been able to) search for, and it's
quite useful that found search terms are highlighted in the found
topics. There's no way that the Index in this case can replace the
functionality offered by Search. They are complementary
    features.

  • Searching with the Search tab only looks in 3 of 19 merged chms, no matter what is searched for

I'm using RoboHelp 8.  I'm using the Search tab in the HTML Help window to search.  Although it finds what I’m searching for, it only looks in 3 of my 19 merged chm files, no matter what I search for.   I can tell by the Location column in the search results.
Is there a known bug in HTML Help search capabilities?

It would be worth checking that the window and single source layout properties of all 19 projects are setup exactly the same. Also make sure that there are no child CHM files in the project directory before you compile. RoboHelp insists that they are copied in when you add links but they can cause issues like this when you compile. When you compile there should be no other CHMs in the project directory.
