RH Outer Limits

I am creating a WebHelp project in RoboHelp 6 and am curious
if there are limits to some things. For example, are there limits
to the number of topics you can create and successfully publish?
And, more importantly, is there a limit to the number of
Conditional Build Tags you can have in a project? Right now, I have
around 300 topics, mostly a "page" or less in length and I have
around 25 Conditional Build Tags. As the system continues to grow
and mature, it's entirely possible it will double in size - both
number of topics and Conditional Build Tags. So, I'm looking for a
little feedback from some of you more experienced users who likely
work with very large and complex systems.
I will also have need of multiple WebHelp-based SIngle Source
Layouts - probably 25 or 30 different ones. Is that a problem? Are
there any technical issues with RoboHelp or will it handle that
kind of detail?
Thanks in advance for any feedback/information that anyone
can provide.
Brenda

On the number of topics, much depends on the content such as
heavy use of graphics, very long topics etc. I think most people
find that around the four / five thousand topic level, you might
see a slow down in performance when you are working on it. However,
it looks like you are way off those figures. Also it does not mean
you cannot exceed them or will see performance degredation, just
that you might. Whether or not it is an issue only you can judge.
On the number of layouts perhaps the only issue is confusing
yourself! I don't think there should be any problem there.
I'll have to leave conditional tag comment to others.

  • Macbook pro nvidia 9600 video out limited on levels of black

I have compared the picture quality of my 2008 macbook pro (nvidia 9600gt) with my windows desktop (nvidia 8600GT) using the same monitor (Cinema HD 30"), notebook being connected via mini display port to dual-link DVI adapter, desktop via standard DVI cable.
Macbook picture comes inferior in display of dark shades, to the point that I have several photos taken with Nikon DSLRs I use, where in Windows I am able to see large parts of the image (shade area), and in Macbook they are completely blacked out.
I must say that monitor is properly calibrated for both computers using x-rite colormunki spectrophotometer.
The online test at www.lagom.nl (with pages displaying various black levels nearing to complete 255 black) - also justifies my observation that macbook video just cuts the dark grey shades and makes them black, whereas windows video displays more of the dynamic range.
I have also looked at my iMac computer (2.8 Ghz, 24", with ati video card) and it seems to display a similar limitation.
That presents a serious handicap to photographers like me using macbook pro computers.
Does anyone have a clue to the issue? Can anyone test their picture using that page at lagom,
and report here as to what level of dark grey is still decernible of their monitor? (page is http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php or use any other similar test)

I must make an important clarification - I used Adobe Lightroom 2.3 for viewing the photos, and observed the black levels cutting effect there. same photo opened in Photoshop cs4 displays perfectly visible levels of dark grey. So I guess this is not a hardware issue related to nvidia chip.
Apple preview (available by pressing space bar on a selected photo-file) does show black level clipping just like Lightroom.

  • Optical audio out limited to stereo, or is 5.1 possible?

I've found a lot of clues on this quest for knowledge, but I'm not certain I've put them together correctly.
Can the Optical Digital Out jack in the PB G4 17" (1.67GHz) support 5.1-channel output if the media (movie, game) supports it, or is it strictly limited to two-channel?
If 5.1 should be possible, can someone who has achieved it briefly describe their setup?
    Thanks much.

There are also USB based external sound cards such as: http://www.hercules.com/us/Sound-Cards/bdd/p/56/muse-pocket-lt/. I've never used one though.
What is the source of your 5.1 sound? To be honest the only time I've been able to get 5.1 sound out of my Mac is when I play DVDs. There is a hack to get iTunes to play 5.1 sound when playing rented/purchased movies but everything has to be set just right or it doesn't work.

  • Server.out limitation

Is there a way to limit the number of server.out files or only retain a certain amount of them per server like you do for the other logs?

    Hi
We can Add the following Java options to the JAVA_OPTIONS variable:
-Dweblogic.Stdout="stdout-filename" , so that we can have the stdout messages only in one file
or else better redirect the stdout logs to a server log and then limit them from admin console like Server logs.
Inorder to redirect the JVM standard out messages:
    * When you start the Administration Server, include the following Java option in the weblogic.Server command:
    -Dweblogic.log.RedirectStdoutToServerLogEnabled=true
    or
The JVM in which a WebLogic Server instance runs, sends messages to standard error and standard out. Server as well as application code write directly to these streams instead of using the logging mechanism. You can redirect the JVM output to all the registered log destinations, like the server terminal console and log file.
To redirect the JVM standard out messages:
    1. If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit (see Use the Change Center).
    2. In the left pane of the Console, expand Environment and select Servers
    3. In the Servers table, click the name of the server instance whose logging you want to configure.
    4. Select Logging > General, and click Advanced at the bottom of the page.
    5. Select the Redirect Stdout Logging Enabled check box.
For more information, see Redirecting JVM Output.
    6. Click Save.
    7. To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes.
Not all changes take effect immediately—some require a restart (see Use the Change Center).
    Result
The JVM output will be written to the registered log destinations.
    After you finish
    Restart the server.
For more information, please check the following link:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12840_01/wls/docs103/logging/config_logs.html#wp1022848
It completely depends on which version of Weblogic server you are using. So, please check accordingly.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Sreedevi

  • TV out & composite AV cable

If you hook up an iPod Touch to a TV via Apple's composite AV cable, will you see a complete mirror of the iPod display on the TV (all screens, including Safari, youtube, iTunes, etc)?
Or is the TV out limited to displaying videos and photos/slideshows?

    Hi,
I want to know if it is possible to install a software that allows to transfer
via Compositive cable TV all that is displayed on my ipod touch (safari, ect...).
Or is it an hardware problem?
    Can anybody else help me?
    Thanks!

  • S-Video out and aspect ratio

    Hi,
I'm think of getting the Apple Video adaptor for use with my Sony Widescreen TV. As I understand it, this adaptor outputs an S-video signal that mirrors the iMac's built-in display.
Will this display in true widescreen on my TV or will it be in a 4:3 aspect ratio? Is there a way of choosing between the two?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I don't think my question was a clear as it could've been.
What I really want to know is: will my iMac output s-Video that is anamorphic widescreen. i.e. will I be able to fill my TV's screen without "stretching" a 4:3 image?
Or, is the iMac's s-Video out limited to Standard PAL or NTSC 4:3 without support for anamorphic enhancement?
I know that the iMac supports 4:3 and 16:10, but widescreen TVs are 16:9.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Any distribution limitations for commercial use of i-DVD to create content?

Are there any limitations placed upon content created with i-DVD, and distributed for commercial purposes... for example Macromedia placed specific wording in their 'academic' versions of software that the resulting project could not be distributed for commercial purposes... ie sold...
Thanks if anyone can specificly point out limitations or state there are no such limitations...
    John Clark.

Are there any limitations placed upon content created with i-DVD, and distributed for commercial purposes
No. Note that disks created with iDVD are not copy protected at all.

  • Crop to image limits.

I have an image with a transpartent background layer and one image layer. Is there a way I can use the crop tool to crop the image to its outer limits exactly?

The trim function in Photoshop can be used to do this quickly.
    Go to "Image > Trim"
Make sure you have "Transparant Pixels" and all sides selected.

// call the method to print the email addresses
    printAll( );
// got to call the method to save the email addresses to file here

    in line:218 you have:
    GetPage(PageAddress, Depth, emailClass, LinksClass);
This will result in a "cannot resolve symbol error" because
    1) PageAddress is not defined in your main method nor is it defined in your main class. You have to declare and initialize it to something: eg: String PageAddress = "whatever you want";
    2) emailClass is a class. You want to pass the instance of that class that you created. In line 185 you did emailClass email = new emailClass(); so you want to pass the object email.
    3) same thing for LinksClass. Don't pass the class, pass the object that you created. Line 189:
    LinksClass Links = new LinksClass();

  • IMovie 6 FCE - odd error, plan B?

    Hello!
Bear with me - i'm an old time pro at iMovie (1, 4, 5, and 6), and have just upgraded to FCE HD. As in, loaded it up 6 hours ago!
So, why did I upgrade? I'm pushing the outer limits of iMovie - particuarly with titles, transitions, small video effects, and other motion - exactly what FCE is better at! I see this is going to be a huge learning curve - and i'll work my way up eventually.
In any case, I have been working on an iMovie - er, rather - half a dozen iMovies, which will eventually be combined and iDVD'd. Basically, I've been taking pictures with my Nikon digital still camera, photoshopping together some silly scenes, and placing them in the video track, complete with narration, SFX/VFX, music, and so on. It's kind of like a video comic book, actually. Each is around 5 minutes. Most are done, but there are a couple of fixes i'd like to make in FCE - particuarly with sheer lack of title options in iMovie (and plethora of them in FCE/Livetype)
Well, my biggest worry is about the problem many seem to be having with iMovie transitions not importing, or screwing up the sync between audio and video. It seems many of the posts (that I saw) were posted in 2005 - before iMovie 6 and FCE 3.5. Has that changed?
Said error is as follows: After trying to import an iMovie project via the import command in FCE, It gave a warning - "File Error: 1 file recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown."
    Ooookay...
So, plan B - better safe than sorry. Like I mentioned, most of these "movies", more of chapters really, are finished. It's just one or two I'd like to re-work a bit.
Since this is mainly just a hobby, i'm not TOO worried about pristine quailty, just as long as the timing is correct. So, I should probably just export what I have, and re-tool the resulting movies on FCE. Question is, what format should I use? It's a DV project, so I can just export "full quality", however I don't know enough about FCE to know what it's "native formats" are.
Oh - I have also tried to simply open the "Timeline Movie" from the Cache folder in the iMovie project (control-click the package, "Show package contents"), but it siezes up FCE.
In any case, the one critical condition about the movie is the timing - because I don't have a video camera, and the movies are made with stills, the timing between audio and video is pretty critical.
Well, I hope that made sense - I think I need some sleep!
Just in case: I'll repeat the questions:
    1. What does that error mean?
    2. Are the iMovie > FCE oddities fixed?
    3. If not, what's the best format to export my iMovie, to import into FCE without too much quality loss?
    4. Is there any special thing I need to do to ensure that the audio and video of the exported movie sync up?
    Thanks for helping this newbie!
    -Dan
PS: I'm hoping to get a MiniDV camcorder for my birthday in 2 months. (well, i'm asking at least! ) Are there any particular things I should check for in a model to ensure maximum FC compatibility?
    15" 1.67 Powerbook G4 (non-HiRes), iMac DV (9.2.2)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi Daniel.
The problem with converting iMovie into FCE is that it is like changing apples into bananas - a tricky task!
As for an export choice I am not absolutely sure without doing a test but I think "Full Quality DV" will be the best. (I have only got iMovie 4 so don't know whether iMovie 6 has different options).
Just test it and see - it will probably take less time than writing a letter!
    Ian.

  • Polite use of these forums

    To Apple Community Forum Moderators:
I have owned Apples for almost twenty years and periodically have found myself in need of advice on an Apple hardware issue, network compatibility, or Apple Application issue. The Apple website “recommends” that we go to these Forums for information it seems like a good idea. It has the potential to expand technical help to those of us that have a problem with using a Mac or an Apple application. However, in every case that I have accessed the Forum I have either viewed attacks by some of what I'll call the “loyal users” against others that note problems with Apple, or have been the object of nasty responses myself:
    - Early on I engaged the Forum about the difficulty of getting Apples to work in a Windows Network Environment. When I got on I saw nasty comments about similar questions from other users chastising the user for being on a Windows network. Well there is little one can do about that. The institution's leadership decides on what kind of network will be used, not an individual user. To dismiss this problem is unrealistic at best and arrogant at worst.
    - After Microsoft moved to Office 2007 and left Mac users in the lurch I purchased iWork based upon what users in the Forum were lauding about about the Suite and what Apple said about it. I found it limited (from what I could gain from being a new user) and sought out answers to questions I had. The equation editor (the industry standard) at the time could not be used in iWork. So I pointed this out on the Forum. I got flamed by this guy that said that this was not appropriate place to point out limitations. I pointed out that Apple Developers would be nuts not to monitor these forums so it would be appropriate to point out functional limitations for future versions of iwork. All I got from the moderator was that I shouldn't have posted it. Others in this thread were flamed because they wanted more functionality from Numbers. They were told that anyone who is serious about analysis would use another database program (Excel maybe? - they didn't identify what program that might be.)
    - Just recently I sought out the Forum because I have had this laptop for two years and am having to replace my battery the second year in a row. I tried to get Apple Help on this after my first replacement and did (what I thought was) everything correct. Someone else was having a similar problem. I related my understanding of how to evaluate battery performance (cycle count), and pointed out that Apple has had a problem with defective batteries (most notably mine) and that users need to watch these metrics closely. Well apparently according to one reply post I mis-stated how to evaluate cycle count (though I think I am still correct on that – our IT people basically told me what to look for.) The reply was that I had not really read the manual on batteries. Well I did, though I could have misunderstood what the battery document was trying to say. Instead of accusing me of lying they could have elaborated on why my interpretation was mistaken.
Now in all these cases and more there are social forum communication flaws that Apple needs to be aware of. This flaw is a social pathology that is characteristic of the medium. First attacking a frustrated user is not a constructive exercise. There is a difference between a negative comment about Apple or its applications and negative comments directed toward users. A negative comment at an Apple Inc. product should not be viewed as some kind attack on all users or a violation of a misguided religious doctrine. It should be viewed as a window into a potential improvement. Apple should be “man enough” to take those graciously. This gives Apple a window into problems in either its Help Manuals or its design. Contrary to trying to stifle comments like this Apple should encourage this. (In fact after I complained about the inability of iWork to use Mathtype - Decision Sciences - an upgrade of iWork works with Mathtype.) In a similar manner Politicians in our state regularly lambast the University I work with. I don't have a problem with their attack on the Institution. It goes with the territory. I do have a problem if they focus on a particular faculty member. Apple Inc. can handle criticisms.
On the other hand the “loyal user's” attacks or nasty comments on users that are critical of Apple or frustrated users are another issue. We purchase the hardware or software and expect it to work based upon what we interpret from Apple advertising claims. It is not working the way it is advertised. We may not be accessing the computer correctly, accessing the Help Manuals correctly, using the Apps correctly, or there may be a problem with the product itself. That is why we go on these Forums. To get chastised or insulted by a “loyal user” does not solve our problem and it does not make us want to tell other people how great Macs are. (My experience with iWork pushed me to OpenOffice - which I am writing this letter in rather than Word or iWork.)
More importantly though it makes us very hesitant about engaging in this social forum about a problem we have with an App or hardware. Ultimately this could mean that many technical/business users such as myself will migrate away from Apple because they can't get the solution they need and the mere size of Apples competitors (e.g. Microsoft) means that user support is much more available. We can forego the nastiness by changing products.
Now this is not say that these issues I raise are unique to Apple Community Forums. I was just on an OpenOffice community forum and saw similar behavior so this really is a social pathology that is part of this form of communication. But moderators need to be aware of this pathology if the company wants users to rely on this medium for good advice. Apple hopefully views these forums as ways to see where they could improve products or add functionality to preserve or enhance market share as well as providing broad technical support. But moderators need to more forcefully impose politeness and gracious responses to users that may not sit well with the “loyal user” part of the community. Thanks.

"Every" time? I waste a lot of time here and I very rarely see anything that could be construed as "nasty". I read through all of your postings and I can't find any response that could be considered "nasty" or an "attack". In one case you posted some incorrect information and a couple of people called you on it. That's life and it happens to the best of us. No need to get upset about it.

Maybe you should increase your participation. You've only posted 17 times in 3 years. If you were at Level 2 (pretty easy to reach) you would have the ability to automatically alert the moderators about any postings that violate the Apple Terms of Use. Until then, it would be better to notify the moderators via this forum about specific posting that you think are improper. Otherwise, it is just hearsay. Perhaps those postings were from known trolls or people who are otherwise "looking for a fight". People often only start posting here when they have problems and, unfortunately, they sometimes wait until they are already very angry and upset. When they start threads with an argumentative tone, it usually doesn't end well.
I can't really say much about Windows networking. All of MacOS X uses SAMBA, so if you can access it via xterm, you can access via the Finder. Maybe start a new thread with more details and keep trying. Windows networking is very complex and SAMBA is just an open-source reverse-engineering effort.
"Flamed"? Again, I read those messages. That was hardly being "flamed". Plus, it had nothing to do with you pointing out limitations.
I pointed out that Apple Developers would be nuts not to monitor these forums so it would be appropriate to point out functional limitations for future versions of iwork.
Sorry, but that is not correct. There is way too much disinformation here for developers at Apple to get meaningful information out of it. If people find bugs or limitations they are usually encouraged to contact Apple via the appropriate feedback channels to improve the products. That actually happened in your case.
No one outside Apple really knows if Apple does or does not read these forums. The official word is that they don't and I accept that. This is a user-to-user tech support forum. It is not a place to complain, report bugs, or suggest enhancements. There are better places for that. This discussion forum is meant to help end-users, not Apple. Apple is a big, multinational corporation with lots of money. They have people whose job it is to track down complains, fix bugs, and enhance products.
All I got from the moderator was that I shouldn't have posted it.
There was no moderator posting in that thread. You can identify Apple employee by the Apple logo under their name.
Others in this thread were flamed because they wanted more functionality from Numbers. They were told that anyone who is serious about analysis would use another database program (Excel maybe? - they didn't identify what program that might be.)
You are the one who mentioned Excel. Someone correctly pointed out that if you are already a user of advanced Excel features you might not be happy with a 1.0 application like Numbers. Excel is 25 years old. No one expects Numbers to match it for functionality. But it might be easier for casual users than Excel. Again, there was no flaming going on.
The reply was that I had not really read the manual on batteries. Well I did, though I could have misunderstood what the battery document was trying to say. Instead of accusing me of lying they could have elaborated on why my interpretation was mistaken.
They didn't accuse you of lying and they did elaborate on why your interpretation was mistaken. You provided misinformation and suggested people take their batteries in to the Apple store for a problem that doesn't exist.
Now in all these cases and more there are social forum communication flaws that Apple needs to be aware of. This flaw is a social pathology that is characteristic of the medium.
I think Apple is well aware of that. That is why they have a good system of moderation that they have been working on for several years. This forum is much better than anything you will find anywhere else. I'm sorry, but you have no idea what a true "flame" really is
First attacking a frustrated user is not a constructive exercise. There is a difference between a negative comment about Apple or its applications and negative comments directed toward users. A negative comment at an Apple Inc. product should not be viewed as some kind attack on all users or a violation of a misguided religious doctrine.
Sometimes people just want to vent. It is pretty clear when someone starts a thread where they don't really want a solution but just want to complain. I always try to give them a solution, while at the same time tearing down all their logical fallacies. Sometimes they are just frustrated and are happy to get the problem resolved. Sometimes they take the bait and keep fighting. Either I've solved someone's problem or I have provided a solution to some jerk who then won't accept it just because it came from me. Either way I'm pleased.
It should be viewed as a window into a potential improvement. Apple should be “man enough” to take those graciously. This gives Apple a window into problems in either its Help Manuals or its design.
Again, you are assuming Apple reads these forums. They don't. These forums are for your benefit, not Apple's.
To get chastised or insulted by a “loyal user” does not solve our problem and it does not make us want to tell other people how great Macs are.
I gave up evangelizing a long time ago. At this point, everyone knows about Macs. If people are too boneheaded to use Macs, I'm content to let them suffer with Windows or Linux.
(My experience with iWork pushed me to OpenOffice - which I am writing this letter in rather than Word or iWork.)
Really? Safari has really nice text editing features with a built-in spell checker. Also, what's wrong with Word? You are obviously a power user, why not use Office? Microsoft got their start with Office, which started out as a Mac program and is still one of the best Mac programs you can buy.
I was just on an OpenOffice community forum and saw similar behavior so this really is a social pathology that is part of this form of communication.
So, in other words, you just invalidated your whole thesis?
But moderators need to more forcefully impose politeness and gracious responses to users that may not sit well with the “loyal user” part of the community.
Moderators really only get involved when there are violations of the terms of use. Being polite is part of that, but graciousness isn't. I think if you continue to post and start answering questions you will soon be able to easily report postings you think are "impolite". Hopefully, when you get to that level, you will be able to better identify a true "flame".

  • New PB 15" Fans, SMS, Temps, Gfx and other related questions!!

    Hi All,
Apologies if this is a long one - I have a few points to raise.
As a new 15" PB user I have spent the last week or so scouring these boards for information on my new baby. Much of it has been interesting, and I'd like to address a few of the issues raised.
    Fan Noise
Some folks have mentioned a constant but quiet noise from a fan on the unit. i too am aware of this, but it is not the cooling fan, but the HARD DRIVE. I recently upgraded my whisper quiet iBook with a Seagate Momentus 5400rpm 80 GB drive, and the sound on my new PB is exactly the same as that which began after this HD upgrade -these hard drives are slightly noisier than slower models, but i'm happy to live with it as it is non-intrusive.
As to the fan/s themselves on the powerbook - when do they actually turn on? I'm used to the iBook fan kicking in after 20 minutes or so of World of Warcraft, but I have still yet to hear my Powerbook fan outside of running the Apple Hardware Test. How hard do you need to push the machine before they come on?
    Temperatures
I can see that there is an issue with most temperature readers in that they don't update on the PB properly. I'm using the latest version of Temperature monitor which seems to update, however the readings seem weird to me:
Graphics Processor 100C, Power Supply Bottom 48C, Processor Bottomside 40.8, Processor /Controller Bottomside 41.5C, Hard Drive 36C, Trackpad 32.5C.
Are these in line with evryone else's? I am concerned specifically about the graphics processor reading, which is odd, as I am simply sitting here typing this with no other apps open. initially thought the program may have picked up on the battery charge rate, as it varied from 97-100, but sometimes it will change erratically for no apparent reason.
    Ticking in 3D apps
This may or may not be a new one. When I'm playing 3D intensive games with the sound muted I notice a ticking noise coming from the centre of the unit under the keyboard - it's not hard drive related. The ticking changes in speed depending on the scene shown on the screen, and seems to be consistent with the frame rate, i.e the ticking slows down as the framerate does. Anyone else notice this really weird behaviour?
    Apple Hardware Test
When I received the unit a few days ago i ran the Apple Hardware test and was surprised that when we got to the video memory part the screen suddenly went allpatchwork coloured for about 15 seconds. The screen then returned to normal and the test was 'passed'. Is this normal?
    Sudden Motion Sensor
The AMS tracker tool at kernalthread.com didn't work on my SMS equipped iBook - I really wanted to try out the little toys the author made where you rotate your machine and the display rotates to suit - a bit like a £1400 version of Warioware Twisted...
Anyway, it doesn't work on my new PB, even though it was specifically designed to do so. I have noticed some issues on here about SMS, so does anyone else with a new Hi res powerbook have the same problem?
Well that's about the total of my observations for the moment - any comments/suggestions would be most gratefully received!

    Hi David --
I have comments that might help with regard to a few points in your post.
Re fan noise: I have a Seagate Momentus 100 GB 5400 rpm factory installed and it's whisper quiet. I can't hear it over the noise of my typing even in a quiet room.
Re temps. I, too, have Temperature Monitor v. 3.1 installed. It was the first temp monitor (credit to Ned Snowing for turning me on to it) that appears to update its temperature readings on my PB. I have six temp readings, like you, but none of them are marked graphics processor. Where you have graphics processor, I have "Battery Temperautre." Maybe it's because you have the October 2005 revision PB and I have the February 2005 revision, i don't know.
My temps, starting with "battery" and then following the same ones as you outlined in your post, are: 31, 41.4, 40, 43, 35, 33 all º C. That 100º C reading you have has to be wrong, because it would surely well exceed the outer limits for the machine -- I don't see any category with a specified outer limit temp higher than 82º C.
Can't help on 3D gaming, not really what I use the PB for.
As for the AHT, I haven't run it in a while, but if I remember correctly, the patchwork graphics for 15 minutes thing that you describe is just the AHT doing its thing and testing your PB's graphics capabilities as part of its diagnostic process.
Finally, as far as the Sudden Motion Sensor issue goes, you might find the following (I warn you, very long) thread regarding the effect that upgrading to 10.4.3 (which I see you are running) had on people's SMS. Here's the thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=228309&tstart=50 the long and short of things appears to be that on many people's PB's (mine included), upgrading to 10.4.3 appears to have messed with System Profiler's ability to report accurately the status of the SMS. It also effects the AMS and the ability of the programs you described to tap into the SMS. You need to read the entire thread carefully to get all the subtleties of what's going on, and no one seems certain as to whether the problem is just a reporting one or whether the issue goes deeper and actually implicates the functionality of the SMS itself. I'm done with it, frankly, until Apple comes out with either a statement (unlikely) or a new update (likely) that hopefully fixes the situation. It's bee reported to death through proper channels.

  • Itunes libary cannot be read. It was created by a newer version.

I cannot read my song list or get my Ipod to comunicate with the pc. When I click on Itunes it boots up the lic. I agree to the lic. then it tells me my libary was created by a new version and will not let me in. Very frustrating. I have gone to the update site and updated the PC and the Ipod. Still same problem. In windows explorer I can see my songs but cannot play or get to them. Help!

    Hello
What I was attempting to commuicate is that I went to the apple downloads section above on this screen, and then to the Ipod downloads for my machine (the 20 gig color screen Ipod) I then went to the downlaod section that showed ipod updater 2006.03.23. It looked to me as the most current one. Is that correct? I then choose the ipod software 1.2.1, which is listed as the one for my machine. That was not successfull in solving my problem. Still the same error message about my files were created by a newer version of the Ipod software. I read your suggestion after doing the above stuff. I noticed that the version you are suggesting is differant than what I downloaded off the offical Apple Ipod site.
So my question was about the differance in the versions. I was concerned because I did not see the one you suggested on the apple site the first time. I am attempting not to mess everything up so that I end up in reformat land. Uggggh! The thought of loading all the music again. But at least I have my cds so in theory I can get there. But currently, as I mentioned these files are still in my computer, but the error message says they were created with a later version of the software. That is puzzeling. One other factor my be that I needed to reinstall my files using an external back up hard drive after a reformating of the computer hard drive. I had backed up the computer using Windows live one care. The Live one care is the new MS service. It is pay for play to keep your computer protected. If you are old enough to remeber the TV show "outer limits", it is like the man said..."we control your screen".
I do have the Ipod files now loaded back into my machine. The originals are still on my Ipod and it plays just fine. I do not have a clue what version of the apple software created them. All I did was use my apple Ipod factory software. Do you know how to find ou what apple version these files are in windows? I am clue less.
I will attempt your path and look for and download the other apple software if you think that will work.
    Resectfully Apple Mike

  • FAQ's about Photoshop Express 3.0.1

    Photoshop Express 3.0.1 FAQ's:
FAQ: Is the sharpen tool in Photoshop Express 3.0.1 the same as in the previous version ?
No, the new sharpen tool incorporates the latest version of sharpening from our imaging teams at Adobe. It is different from the previous version in that the scope has been constrained to a range where we can preserve image quality while achieving the best possible sharpness.
FAQ: Why does the noise reduction tool work differently  in Photoshop Express 3.0.1 than in the previous version?
The range of the noise reduction tool in the previous version was wider than the the range of the tool in version 3.0.1 When it was used at the outer limits, it would cause images to lose detail and would degrade their quality. The new version balances the amount of noise reduced while still preserving image quality.
FAQ: Why does my image automatically zoom in when I use the sharpen and noise reduction tools in Photoshop Express 3.0.1?
Both the sharpen tool and the noise reduction tool can best be adjusted while viewing  the details of the image close up. It allows you to see the changes being made by the tool more clearly and allows for a much more precise adjustment. If you prefer not to use this feature, the zoom can be turned off in the settings panel.
FAQ: How can I achieve a larger range of sharpen or noise reduction as in the previous version of Photoshop Express?
While the features are not designed for uses outside of the ranges provided, you can achieve similar results by applying the maximum value for the tool, saving the image to your camera roll, and repeating the process.

I don't think there was ever anything wrong with your iMac. It should have more than enough power even in its basic configuration. (I am assuming that the Hard Drive is not more than 75% full or fragmented. Either of those situations could cause dropped frames).
There could be a fault with FCE and the first thing to try is to trash the preferences properly like this:-
    http://www.fcpbook.com/Misc1.html
One thing is certain - throwing money at it will not effect a cure. You do not need a more powerful computer or another FCE. If it is not working OK it is because there is something in either your Mac or FCE that needs "adjusting".
You could also go to FCE HD>System Settings>Memory & Cache and ensure the Application setting is at 100%.

  • Suggestions for new Sci-Fi on Vision

    Hi Guys,
The Vision Programming Team have asked for Sci-Fi TV suggestions from Vision users, that we would like to see available via On Demand.
So, via an email from Mod DavidM, I was asked to start a new thread, because they want our feedback. And 'FRINGE' has now been added to the Sci-Fi category (via the 'Serious Lack of' thread). So they do listen!
So to kick off...my last post on the other, main Sci-Fi thread...
Sci-Fi I'd like to see on Vision...
The DUNE and CHILDREN OF DUNE TV mini series (original novels by Frank Herbert).
They are both donkey's years old (2000 & 2003) and so wouldn't cost that much to purchase.
Both mini series won numerous Emmy awards and were also rated as two of the top three highest-rated programs ever to be broadcast on the Sci-Fi Channel.
Battlestar Galactica. Both the TV mini series and the full TV series (the highest ever rated show on the Sci-Fi Channel), which Sky aired between 2003 - 2009. Pure quality.
Also, as another plus, none of the above have ever been aired on British terrestrial television. So lots of potential for new viewers.
Anyone else with any gems you would like to see?
    Rank - Mostly Harmless.
