RH Server 9 compatibility with Windows Server 2008 SP2/SQL Server

Our tech support people are preparing for a first install of RH Server 9. They have asked me to find out whether there is a recent patch that would enable it to work with Windows Server 2008 SP2 64 bit and MS SQL Server 2008.
If there is not yet a patch, will there be one for this OS/DB combination in the future, and when?
This is in reference to the knowledgebase article at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/884/cpsid_88483.html which gives a "not recommended" status to this combination.
Our infrastructure team would prefer to use this combination if it is possible.
Second question from the tech team: Do we need to separate the RoboHelp application from the database or can they both reside on the same server?

To answer your first question, no there is no patch to allow SQL Server 2008 to run on a 64 bit server. To answer your second question, I don't know. This is a user to user forum and therefore we are not party to any discussions on when or if a patch will be released. You could sumbit a feature request which the Adobe RoboHelp Product Manager will get. This will help advance your case. You can submit it here:

  • Any comments on speed and robustness of RH Server running on Windows 7 and using SQL Server Express?

    Hi. Can anyone comment on their experience using RH Server on Windows 7 and using SQL Server Express? That is, is it stable and fast enough for delivering Web Help Pro documentation to support occasional viewer browses. (We would have approx 250 customers who would occasionally access the HTML docs that support our software.)
    Our company is not keen on spending $s on Windows Server and an MS or Oracle database.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Kurt. You should have no problems with that configuration and user numbers. See Recommended OS/database combinations for RoboHelp Server « Technical Communication Suite

  • Is it possible to assign an AD User to SQL Server Login with a defined set of SQL Server Roles?

    A customer asked me if its possible to define in the Active Directory, the SQL Server Roles that should be automatically assigned to a sql server Login that is mapped to a Windows Account.
    In short, his idea is:
    - he creates in the Active Directory a User Group that "knows" about the SQL Server "SecutityAdmin" role
    - some Windows Windows Accounts are Member of this AD Group
    - if one of this Windows Domain Account is mapped to a SQL Server Login "CREATE LOGIN [<domainName>\<login_name>] FROM WINDOWS;" the created SQL Server Login will automatically be a Member of the SQL Server SecurityAdmin.
    Do you know if its possible to configure the AD / SQL Server in this manner?
    I invested some time searching through SQL Server Onlinehelp and AD Documentation. Found nothing. Dont even know if its fiction or a realistic wish.
    Any help, hint, adivce is really appreciated.
    Best Regards
    Paolo

    Yes, you can create an AD Group named "SQLSecurityAdmins", assign a login in SQL Server to this group and grant SecurityAdmin role to it (exec sp_addsrvrolemember).

    Hi Bodo
    Thank you very much for your reply. Dont know if i got it right.
    I create the AD Group "SQLSecurityAdmin", assign it to SQL Server Login and manually add the SQL Server Login as a Member of the SQL Server "SecurityAdmin" Role.
    Now i have a new AD User "NewUser", make him a member of the AD Group "SQLSecurityAdmin". Then i execute "CREATE LOGIN [DomainName\NewUser] FROM WINDOWS;". Is now the new SQL Login Mapped to the Windows Account "DomainName\NewUser" automatically member of
    the SQL Server SecurityAdmin Group?

    Hi. I need to get the update of my MS SQL Server 2012 installation in order to get the SP1.
    When I run the Windows Update it appears to download well the package.
    Then when it begins to install  I get the error "84C4000E: Se ha producido un error con Windows Update" (our server is in Spanish).
    I have the last updates for Windows Server, a rebooted our server and the issue remains.
    Any idea of what should I do to get the SP1 update?

  • SQL Server Express compatibility with Windows 8.1 - Which version(s) are compatible?

    We have purchased a new computer that has Win 8.1 Pro. We are migrating an application from a Win 7 Pro machine we are currently successfully using (the vendor migrates it for us) and they have said that the application will require the installation of SQL
    Server 2008 Express (which we do have on our Win 7 machine).
    In looking at the requirements for SQL Server 2008 Express (on the download page for it), it does not mention it being compatible with Win 8.1
    In addition, Installation Instructions  says that it requires:
     Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1
     Windows Installer 4.5.
     Windows PowerShell 1.0
    I see that 3.5 is already listed as a program feature of Win8.1 and I've enabled it. Do I need to install SP1? I downloaded it, and launched it, and nothing happened.
    I also looked at the Windows Installer 4.5 download page, and it's not clear if that is compatible with 8.1. Do I need to download and install it?
    Power Shell 2.0 is already installed. I assume that will be backwards compatible with PowerShell 1.0; is that correct?
    I saw another question about SQL Server Express Compatibility with Win 8.1 (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/038ec00e-4fc1-41ba-9fdc-21c022aad67e/action?threadDisplayName=sql-server-express-compatibility-with-windows-81) and the response
    said that SQL Server Express 2012 will work, but the link contained in the answer led to a page for SQL Server Express 2014.
    My vendor has told me that SQL SERver Express 2012 will be backwards compatible with their product. But they said that I would first have to install 2008 first. Is that correct for Win 8.1?
    So, the ultimate questions are:
    1. What is the link for Sql Server 2012 Express for Win 8.1?
    2. Will the SQL Server 2012 Express download require prior install of the 2008 version
    3. What other component requirements are required for SQL Server 2012 Express, and how can I determine if they have already been installed. (This is a brand new computer with a clean Win8.1 Install).
    4. Finally, can we use the 2014 version of SQL Server Express for Win 8.1? If so, questions 1, 2 and 3 apply, too.
    Thanks for your help on this!! HIGH ANXIETY.

    Dear Folks,
    I would like to ask you about this thing. I'm working for IT department for bank in Myanmar. Our bank have up to 96 branches across all of Myanmar including H.O. We are using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 with Windows Server 2008 for our banking
    information system. My main problem is having to backup and restore the database backup files every time the servers in branches goes down for whatever reasons. I want to deploy this feature of high availability and failover cluster using Windows Server 2008
    and SQL Server 2005. Our branches have 2 Servers. One is for Primary and other is for Backup. What I want to do is that, I want to change Backup Server to Primary Server whenever the Primary Server goes down for whatever reasons. All the working data and databases
    from Primary will immediately replicated into Backup Server along with all the IP information of Primary Server. Please give me step by step guide for this process.

    Try below

  • SQL Server 2012 Standard compatibility with Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard

    Hi,
    Is SQL Server 2012 Standard compatibility with Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard.
    In volume licensing portal Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard is not provided in the list of OS supported for SQL server 2012.

    Hi Ajit,
    Besides other post, please also note that
    Service Pack 1 or
    a later update is needed for the support of SQL 2012 on Windows Server 2012 R2.

  • Windows Server 2008, IIS7, SQL Server 2005 - Will this work?

    Hi,
    Not super concerned about it being supported at this point, BUT, can I run/install CR XI SP2 on Windows Server 2008, IIS7, SQL Server 2005?
    I've reference the System Requirement stuff and it was written before Server 2008 was released.
    If it's possible, any help on what to install/not install would be great appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Try it. If it works great. As you are using ASP, your app must be using craxdrt.dll. This dll has been retired and no longer ships with CR 2008, so even when the next SP for CR 2008 releases, it will be of no use to you. If the ASP app does not work on the server, you may want to post your query to the Legacy Application Development SDKs forum:
    SAP Crystal Reports - Legacy SDKs
    and see if anyone can help.
    Other than that, the only option will be to go to .NET once SP 1 releases for CR 2008, or use CR 10.5 which bundles with .NET 2008.

  • IDM 7.2 under Windows Server 2008 R2 (SQL Server ): Which NTW ? Which JVM ?

    Hello,
    We are installing IDM 7.2 under Windows Server 2008 R2 using the database SQL Server 2008 R2.
    1/ Which NetWeaver should we use to install the Java Application Server (NTW 7.3 or NTW 7.2)?
    Using install guides 7.2rev8, we tried NTW 7.3 but it comes with JVM 1.6 that isn't supported, according to the PAM.
    Should we install the AS Java with NTW 7.2 that comes with JVM 1.5 (JVM 1.5 being supported)?
    2/ Has someone installed IDM 7.2 under Windows Server 2008 R2 (SQL Server)?
    If yes, which NTW was used (7.2 or 7.3)? Which JVM was used (1.5 or 1.6)? Which JDBC drivers (1.2 or 3)?

    Or
    It got resolved in any successive Cumulative update after 10.50.1600.1?
    Regards Harsh

    Hello,
    If you have CSV with double quotes inside double quotes and with SSIS 2008, I suggest:
    in your data flow you use a script transformation component as Source, then define the ouput columns id signed int, Gp unicode string and C unicode string. e.g. Ouput 0 output colmuns
    Id - four-byte signed
    gp - unicode string
    cc - unicode string
    Do not use a flat file connection, but use a user variable in which you store the name of the flat file (this could be inside a for each file loop).
    The user variable is supplied as a a readonly variable argument to the script component in your dataflow.
    In the script component inMain.CreateNewOutputRows use a System.IO.Streamreader with the user variable name to read the file and use the outputbuffer addrow method to add each line to the output of the script component.
    Between the ReadLine instraction and the addrow instruction you have to add your code to extract the 3 column values.
    public override void CreateNewOutputRows()
    Add rows by calling the AddRow method on the member variable named "<Output Name>Buffer".
    For example, call MyOutputBuffer.AddRow() if your output was named "MyOutput".
    string line;
    System.IO.StreamReader file = new System.IO.StreamReader( Variables.CsvFilename);
    while ((line = file.ReadLine()) != null)
    System.Windows.Forms.MessageBox.Show(line);
    if (line.StartsWith("_id,qp,c") != true) //skip header line
    Output0Buffer.AddRow();
    string[] mydata = Yourlineconversionher(line);
    Output0Buffer.Id = Convert.ToInt32(mydata[0]);
    Output0Buffer.gp = mydata[1];
    Output0Buffer.cc = mydata[2];
    file.Close();

    User Action
    Assign "Log on as a service" to the service account on this computer. You can use Local Security Settings (Secpol.msc) to do this. If this computer is a node in a cluster, check that this user
    right is assigned to the Cluster service account on all nodes in the cluster.
    If you have already assigned this user right to the service account, and the user right appears to be removed, check with your domain administrator to find out if a Group Policy object associated
    with this node might be removing the right.
    I found following article:
    "MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID service was unable to log on as NT SERVICE\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID" error when you install WID in Windows Server 2012
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2832204/en-us
    To work around the issue, use one of the following methods:
    Assign the Log on as a service user right to NT SERVICE\ALL SERVICES in the GPO that defines the user right.
    Exclude the computer from the GPO that defines the user right.
    We moved the SCCM server to OU where no policies were getting applied and then applied the new GPO to that OU. Restarted the server and we were able to install WSUS role.

  • What is the best way to deal with memory leak issue in sql server 2008 R2

    What is the best way to deal with memory leak issue in sql server 2008 R2.

    What is the best way to deal with memory leak issue in sql server 2008 R2.
    I have heard of memory leak in OS that too because of some external application or rouge drivers SQL server 2008 R2 if patched to latest SP and CU ( may be if required) does not leaks memory.
    Are you in opinion that since SQL is taking lot of memory and then not releasing it is a memory leak.If so this is not a memory leak but default behavior .You need to set proper value for max server memory in sp_configure to limit buffer pool usage.However
    sql can take more memory from outside buffer pool if linked server ,CLR,extended stored procs XML are heavily utilized

  • Server Virtualization with Windows Server Hyper-v and System Center Expiration

    Prometric says: STATUS: Passed, EXPIRATION: 22-03-2015.
    Does this means that I have to take the exam again before 22-03-2015?

    Hi, Daniel.
    Let me understand this exactly.
    You log into http://register.prometric.com/ and then on the left side, you click
    Candidate History to see your list of exam attempts.
    Under the Status Expiration column, all the way to the right, it should read
    Passed and the date/time you passed it. Are you sure it reads
    2015 and not
    2014? Is there also
    another date on that same row/column for this exam's expiration below the date you passed it?
    On the Prometric site, this column is supposed to display the date you passed it and optionally the date it expires for many non-Microsoft exams.
    Typically for Microsoft exams, this final column will state the day you passed the exam and
    not an expiration date.
    As well, by passing this exam, I know that you also earned a Specialist: Server Virtualization with Windows Server Hyper-V and System Center certification title. This certification does
    not expire.
    Exam 74-409:
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/exam.aspx?ID=74-409
    Have you looked at your MCP transcript to see if a expiration date is mentioned there? No matter what it states on the Prometric site, your transcript will describe any exam/certification expiration dates much
    more accurately.
    Also, I understand that the 74-nnn series exams are Microsoft partner exams. Perhaps they
    do require recertification to keep up to date with the latest certifications.
    If your transcript does really contain an expiration, you can contact Prometric about this and see if they can help you understand it. Here is the Prometric contact information for Microsoft exams:
    https://www.prometric.com/en-us/clients/pages/contact-numbers.aspx?client=microsoft
    As well, if they can't help you, you can call/email Microsoft Learning Support with information found here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/help.aspx.
    Finally, if you want to be sure how this exam works against your employer's Microsoft partnership, you can log in and view the Partner support page here:
    https://partners.microsoft.com/partnerprogram/help/en-us/whgdata/whlstt14.htm#14
    I hope someone can help you get this cleared up.
    Good luck!
