RH6.1 - Oracle 8.1.5.0.2 - PLXML

the package SYS.DBMS_JAVA seems to be listed as SYS.DBMS_JAVA_TEST. Does this mean that the above does NOT work in Linux? (n.b. the porting work has not been completed yet as far as the java end of things in concerned)

Martin,
Is the problem solved...let me know...
installation on Linux 6.X is quite simple..
Email me directly..if you are still having probelm..
Good Luck

  • Database Problems on RH6.2/Oracle 8.1.5

I've created a database, but get the following error when trying to connect with sqlplus:
    ERROR:

    Any ideas?

I also finished installing 8.1.5 on Linux 6.2
    (Second time around).
First time when I installed the patch, SQLPLUS gor screwed up and I traced the reason as to why during the second install.
here is the problem: During patch (81501)installation, SQLPLUS compilation and linking gets screwed due to missing files . One such message was ' Cannot find crt1.o.
Can somebody enlighten me as to what am I missing in my linux installation.
PS: My data base is up and running without the patch. This is at home installation for learing and no great shakes inI don't install the patch quickly. Any body can help

Giancarlo, did you get an answer to this question? I am experiencing it as well. It may also be related to the NLS parameter setting, as I see that error message as well. And the "create database ..." command just doesn't work.

  • Sqlplus describe dumps core

The describe command dumps core eg.
    SQL> describe help;
    Name Null? Type
    TOPIC NOT NULL VARCHAR2(50)
    SEQ NOT NULL NUMBER
    Segmentation fault (core dumped)
    Same happens on v$license...

Seems linesize is the cause ie. linesize
of 126 or greater causes the core dump.
    SQL> set linesize 125;
    SQL> describe dba_tables; /* works fine */
    SQL> set linesize 126;
    SQL> describe dba_tables; /* dumps core */

  • COREDump / Stackdump

    Hi
    I am using RH6. I installed oracle 8.0.5
It installed fine. But when i am trying to
execute it is giving error COREDUMP.Why this error is comming.
I would like to know wether RH6 supports oracle or not ? In order to run oracle what i have to do?
    thx

No, 8.0.5 does not work on Redhat 6. You must apply the compatibility patches which are available on Technet, or install 8.1.6

  • Ejb BMP never commits even with transactions

I have serious problems with any EJB running inside the Oracle8i server, Linux Rh6.2/Oracle 8.1.7.0.1
ALL code does not perist its data, but it sielently fails. For instance take
    $ORACLE_HOME/javavm/demo/examples/ejb/transactions/clientside
I changed the last line in Client.java from crollback to commit()...
    I run this program twice:
    Beginning salary = 3000.0
    End salary = 3300.0
    Beginning salary = 3000.0
    End salary = 3300.0
The second invocation should show the beginning salary as 3300.0
In essance ALL of my EJBs are showing simular behavior. This problem is also seen in ALL of the examples. My environment uesed to work, but I can't figure out what changed to make every EJB-BMP nonpersistant.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks,
    -rick

I don't think my probmem is related to an exception being lost because no exceptions are throws, I have alot of trace information and I always see complete method calls through ejbCreate, ejbStore, et. al.
My problem is that a transaction never gets commited, even when the JTS is used. Infact I have this piticular problem with ALL Oracle BMP-EJBs
I'm just going to have to open a ITAR, guess thats want support is for. I'm just perplexed as to why it worked last week, and now the demos can't save their state.
a bit scarie for something that may one day be in production.

  • ORACLE 8.1.5 on RH6.0?

    All:
Just joined the OTN and found this newsgroup.
We first tried to load 8.0.5 by downloading the ~175M
from the ORACLE site. This took a few days to get what
we thought was the complete package.
I tried installing and got quite a few errors/anomalies.
Last week, I/we received my/an ORACLE CD ROM with 8.1.5 (*not*
8.0.5) on it last week. I tried to install it and I had
    some weirdness using "dbassist".
Came back tonite to try to figure out what was going on.
Several things mostly gleaned from this newsgroup:
    1) If you use GNOME/ENLIGHTENMENT you must install the
enlightenment patches from Redhat, otherwise the
    GUI installer doesn't work properly.
    2) JRE 1.1.6 seems to work fine on my RH6.0.
    3) Pay close attention to the "deinstallation" notes
on the CD ROM (I should have looked this over more
closely; I had 8.0.5 partially installed before
    I started the 8.1.5).
    4) I'd definitely would suggest using the "Custom" installation
mainly 'cuz the LINUX docs are not included in the
    "Typical" installation.
About 2 hours ago I used the installer to de-install
everything related to 8.1.5, and then per the "deinstall"
    instructions removed everything under $ORACLE_HOME.
Will report back here when I get done with the re-install.
Would be glad to share info/ideas with others who are using
    8.1.5.
If you should respond to this particular thread please
include my EMAIL as well as posting to this group as I
    don't regularly access this newsgroup.

The Oracle Enterprise Manager is not on the CD either. (at least

As far as I have heard, the all Java, cross-platform, OEM 2.0.4
doesn't install or run on Linux.

  • Oracle Application Server on RH6.2

    PIII-500
    256MB RAM
    512MB SWAP
    oas4081.tar.gz
Clean install of RH6.2 (custom, because I didn't want Apache and graphics utils installed).

    Installed OAS (seemingly no problem).
applied Patch for Backport bug # 1227322
    (libndw1.so)
But then when I try to run owsctl I get a segmentation fault. Sometimes later I'd get an error screen with a kernel error (unable to page virtual address:xxxxx).

    Hi,
Reports runs in the OC4J_BI_Forms instance. You have to stop it to stop Reports. Unfortunately, you will also stop Forms. Not sure why Oracle included Start/Stop/Restart buttons for Reports - my experience has been they are useless. Note that Forms does not have these buttons.
Sorry, don't have any experience with virtual paths.

  • Oracle 8.0.5 installation on linux RH6.0 kernel 2.2.5-15

    Good evening.
I'm trying to install Oracle 8.0.5 on a machine running Linux RH 6.0 kernel 2.2.5-15.
I wish to obtain some information about how and where can I set the following parameters:
    SHMMAX
    SHMMIN
    SHMMNI
    SHMSEG
    SEMMNS
    SEMMNI
    SEMMSL
    PROCESSES
    Thanks forward for your help.

You'll have to be prepared to wade through and understand the Linux way of recompiling your kernel. The files can be located using the "find" command. There is some great "HOW-TO"s in the Linux RedHat site.
Tip: Be very careful how you answer the "make config" questions because it can mess up the resulting VMLINUZ object. Also, be sure to place secondary entry in your "lilo.conf" to allow you a graceful way of getting back to the old kernel should the new one fail.
    Good Luck!

  • Here's a solution to Oracle Startup / Shutdown on RH6

I had a hard time getting Red Hat 6.0 to startup and shutdown
Oracle properly. Red Hat's slick rc scripts look cool, but hide
the problem unless you do some serious reading.
This script still isn't perfect, mainly because it can't
shutdown if oracle users are still logged in. This is a problem
with the dbshut scripts. I try to avoid hacking Oracle's bin
directory, but if you really want to go down, change the
shutdown lines to shutdown immediate. Oracle, please provide an
option to dbshut to fix this! :-)
My changes to the book version fix the following:
    1. It creates a file /var/log/dbora to log the startup output to
give you some visibility after the fact.
    2. Creating the /var/lock/subsys/dbora file after startup makes
the shutdown work. Otherwise rc won't even try. Deleting it
makes changes between run levels work right.
    3. The startup is NOT backgrounded so that if you are watching
it boot you can at least gauge the time it takes before the
    startup.
    4. It starts the listener too.
    5. It checks the log file for startup errors and makes the
screen say FAILED in red if it sees any errors.
    5. It allows dbshut some time to finish before unmounting. My
dual xenon machine goes down do fast dbshut wouldn't finish
    downing both of my sids.
    # dbora -start/stop Oracle
    #action
    ORA_HOME=/home/oracle;export ORA_HOME
    ORA_OWNER=oracle;export ORA_OWNER
    if [ ! -f $ORA_HOME/bin/dbstart -o ! -d $ORA_HOME ]
    then
    echo "Oracle startup: cannot start"
    exit

    /var/log/dbora.log
    su - $ORA_OWNER -c "$ORA_HOME/bin/lsnrctl start" >>
    /var/log/dbora.log
    touch /var/lock/subsys/dbora
    'stop')
    su - $ORA_OWNER -c $ORA_HOME/bin/dbshut &
    sleep 15
    rm -f /var/lock/subsys/dbora
    esac
if egrep -q "ORA-" /var/log/dbora.log; then
    exit -1
    else
    exit 0
    fi
Note that the links prescribed by the book are also incorrect.
Linux's rc levels do NOT run sequentially. Therefore, you need a
start and stop on the same level. If you want to save some RAM
on the serve by not running X, you'll want level 4 scripts and
level 5 scripts. So, Create all these links (as ROOT).
    ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/dbora /etc/rc.d/rc4.d/K10dbora

    ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/dbora /etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S99dbora
To be really safe also create these links. This way there is no
    escaping a proper oracle shutdown.
    ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/dbora /etc/rc.d/rc0.d/K10dbora
    ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/dbora /etc/rc.d/rc1.d/K10dbora

It isn't necessary to create the symlinks for the rc scripts
manually--that's what the "chkconfig" command is for.
