RH7 Topics appearing in another language

Another completley random, strange bug. I have a few topics in my web help project (same project having the TOC inssue; http://forums.adobe.com/message/3891122#3891122, as it happens) which are appearing either blank or in Chinese. !
I'm wondering... the svn (tortoise) system, where I check in my files to build to the product, is accessed by people all over the place, including Taiwan and China. Could their local access (Chinese keyboards I assume) be glitching the files somehow? I did just verify the project language is set to English; the css doesn't talk about language per say, just specifiying fonts like Verdana. Past that, I can't begin to guess what might be happening.
And of course we need to release this in the next week.
Thanks O helpful forum watchers!
Lance

    After downloading iOS 7 I can't use my AppStore as another language than english appears... I am getting frustred!

    I don't know if this helps, but I experienced a similar issue with my iPad 2 after updating to iOS 7.
    My "solution" to the problem, after pulling out my hair for hours, is to plug it in the wall charger, and then shut the iPad down completely. It does charge when turned off, although a bit slower than usual, or so it seems. Pheeew...:-) I realize that this is a pain if you have a problem with an iPhone, because you have to turn it off to charge it. Presuming that this works, of course. Otherwise, I don't know..
    After the update, the iPad simply does not respond when i plug in the charger, nor does it connect to the USB port. The battery just keeps wearing down. I think it could be connected to the firmware change that iOS 7 brings, which I guess in itself has to do with Apple wanting to block out 3rd party manufacturers of power adapters of the new "lightning" type.
    The only thing I can think of that might have gone wrong on my part concerning the update is that I didn't have it plugged in while installing the update - although I believe this is recommended from Apple. I'm thinking that in my case the new firmware update simply hasn't registered any adapter present upon installation, and that might have caused the iPad to not recognize an adapter at all, regardless of type. I have always used original Apple adapters, btw, so I'm not really guilty of anything other than not plugging it in while updating - or, at least that's my own theory. Which is better than no theory at all.. ;-)
    Obviously, I'm waiting eagerly for Apple to solve this issue. Not really happy at all with this..

  • Adobe X prints first in English then in another language

    Using Windows XP, IE 8, Adobe Reader X and HP Laserjet 4000 printer. Sometimes when I print email PDF attachments from Office Outlook 2003, the attachments start printing in English and then subsequent pages turn into an oriental language (not sure which one). If I view the attachment prior to printing all the pages are clearly in English. Other times if I print the item and it is okay (in English), if I reprint it, it may start in English and then goes to the other language. I have not incurred anything like this in any other printing program that I use such as Word or Excel. I have no idea why this is happenning. Any ideas what causes this and if so how to correct this?

    hello,
    i'll snip in below:
    - What OS are you on and version thereof? (ex Window 7 64-bit, OSX 10.7.4, etc)
    i'm runing 10.7.4
    - What language is your OS set to?
    my OS is set to english.
    - Is there a reason you chose English - (International) vs English (North America), just seemed odd?
    i was trying the "other" english. neither work.
    - Is this a home computer or work computer on a network? just want to ensure you are an administrator
    home computer.
    - Does the language appear to be the same regardless of if you reisntall?
    yes unfortuneatley. i un-installed the entire suite and kicked everything off my desk top, then went back through the download process again, downloaded all apps and it still came out foriegn.
    now, here's is something -- when i got my first iphone, it thought i was a forienger and i had to go into my phone and set the language there. but when i turned on the iphone for the first time, it was another language.
    so that adds a level of wierdness huh? (to fix it, i had to go onoine and look at a series of screenshots so i could tell where i was in the settings screens)
    - Which products have you installed already that you are seeing this in?
    anyhting CS6 related. illustrator, photoshop and in-design. basically the suite.
    thanks a ton for trying to help. i'll post a screen shot of the language.
    WELL look at that. i just went to open the application manager and now its all in english. hahahahaha... 2 hours ago it wasn't... i'll report back!

    Hi
    See the attached 2 OSS notes for your problem
    OSSNote:960341
    Symptom
    In some device types (e.g HPLJ4, HPLJ5) you experience non-uniform character spacing in the PDF document after the PDF conversion of SAPscript or Smart Forms documents, using HELVE or TIMES fonts. You want to know the reason.
    Other terms
    CONVERT_OTF, SAPscript, Smart Forms
    Reason and Prerequisites
    The problem is not due to an error in the PDF converter but due to the fact, that the printer font, underlying the device type (e.g. Univers or CG Times in PCL-5 device types), is not available for the PDF converter and is either not available in Adobe Reader. The PDF converter has to try to simulate the layout of the printer font by means of a font which is predefined in Adobe Reader. This is done by assigning the letter widths of the printer font to the font used in Adobe Reader.
    The PDF file contains a table with letter widths, used by Adobe Reader in the output of text, for each used printer font (except PostScript fonts).
    Example:
    %Charwidth values from HP4300 HELVE 060 normal
    /Widths
    [ 278 333 500 633 633 1000 758 333 333 333 633...
    Adobe reader converts this width table, by modifying the space between each character, so that the specified letter width (= space between the current and the next letter) is kept.
    This 'Simulation' of printer fonts results in the sometimes visible irregular spaces in PDF.
    The PDF converter always uses the Helvetica Adobe PostScript font for the display of HELVE and the Times Roman Adobe PostScript font for the display of TIMES. However, for these Adobe PostScript fonts, Adobe Reader often uses a Windows TrueType font, which differs slightly from the original PostScript font.
    Solution
    Workaround: Use the POST2 PostScript device type or the PDF1 PDF device type for the PDF conversion of documents in the Latin-1 character set. They both use the Adobe PostScript fonts Helvetica or Times Roman for the HELVE/TIMES printer fonts.

    Symptom
    Documents printed via SAPscript or SmartForms do not print with correct special characters, e.g. ### prints instead of Japanese or Russian characters. What to do?
    Other terms
    SAPscript, SmartForms, printing, device types, OTF
    Reason and Prerequisites
    Help required to choose proper fonts in a SAPscript or SmartForm
    Solution
    When using SAPscript or SmartForms to print (or email or fax) a form from a business application, many factors influence the outcome of the actual text within the form. All these factors must be checked in order to ensure a correct printout:
    1) The language version of the form used to produce the printout.
    Example: If you want to print a French invoice, you need to have a FR version of your SAPscript or SmartForms invoice form RVINVOICE01. And the application program must specify the corresponding language key (FR) when calling the SAPscript or SmartForms API.
    2) The font selections specified in the form (possibly also in a SAPscript style or SmartStyle used in a form).
    Example: In a SAPscript form or a SmartStyle you need to specify HELVE if you want to print German text in Helvetica (or similar) font. If you want to print Japanese text, HELVE is not a valid choice but you need to specify a Japanese font like JPMINCHO in your Japanese form.
    3) The output character set of the device type
    Every printer in transaction SPAD has a "device type" assigned. Device types used by the spooler for printing support only one single specific output character set. All text from the form has to be converted (using SAP's built-in character conversion mechanism) to this output character set.
    A character set can typically support either a single language (e.g. Shift-JIS which supports only Japanese) or a set of languages (e.g. ISO 8859-1, which supports Western-European languages). It is possible that a given language (such as German) can be supported by several output character sets, e.g. you may use either ISO 8895-1 (Latin-1) or ISO 8859-2 (Latin-2) to represent German text. This is so because both character sets contain the special characters used in German.
    Example: HPLJ4000 is a HP LaserJet device type supporting the ISO 8859-1 (Latin-1) character set. ISO 8859-1 can be used to represent e.g. Dutch, English, French, German, Spanish, Swedish but NOT Russian or Japanese.
    As a consequence, it is ok to use HPLJ4000 to print English, German French etc. but not for Japanese or Russian.
    4) The set of available printer fonts for a given device type
    When formatting a document, SAPscript and SmartForms perform an automatic mapping of the font definitions in the form (e.g. "HELVE 14 point bold") and the available printer fonts of the device type. A replacement printer font is chosen, should the specified font selection not be available in the device type. Now this replacement can be problematic if a language-specific font, such as Chinese CNSONG, is specified in a form and it gets replaced by a font which does not support this language, e.g. COURIER.
    To solve this problem, font families in SE73 have language attribute assigned, e.g. some fonts are characterized as being suitable only for certain languages. And when a replacement has to be chosen because the original font from the form is not available in the device type, a replacement font is chosen which has the same language attributes.
    If no fonts for the language in question exist in the device type, the resulting font will not be able to print the special characters and you will see "wrong" output characters in the printout.
    Note on SAPscript/SmartForms Print Preview:
    The OTF Print Preview available in Windows GUI (e.g. from transaction SP01) will sometimes not show the "wrong" characters which appear on the final printout. Here is the reason: since the Print Preview runs in Windows environment, it will use Windows fonts to represent the actual printer fonts. A Windows font typically has more available characters (i.e. covers more character sets) than are actually available in a printer's resident font.
    A typical example where the Print Preview will differ from the printout is here: if you have a Chinese PCL5 printer such as CNHPLJ4 and use the Western Latin font COURIER in your document, the print preview will show you Chinese characters if you (by accident) tried to format Chinese characters in COURIER font. This is because Windows will automatically choose a font that can output Chinese characters (which is actually not Courier). But when you print the job on an actual PCL5 printer with resident Western and Chinese fonts, the Courier font will not print any Chinese characters but Western special characters instead, because the printer's resident Courier font does not include Chinese characters.
    Rule of thumb: all Asian device types (e.g. CNHPLJ4, JPHPLJ4, JPPOST, KPHPLJ4) support not only Asian fonts but also COURIER, HELVE and TIMES fonts. But these Latin fonts can only be used to print English text, not Chinese/Japanese/Korean characters.
    Which fonts are suitable for a given language?
    Language(s): Font family to use in a form:
    Latin-1 (Western Europe/Americas) *******
    DE,EN,FR,ES,NL,SV COURIER, HELVE, TIMES

    Verify your output by examining the OTF data
    When analysing printing problems of this type, be sure to check the OTF data which gets produced by SAPscript or SmartForms. OTF or "Output Text Format" is the intermediate page-description format generated from SAPscript or SmartForms. OTF will contain the final printer font names and character set/language identifiers which help to solve the problem. OTF will even name the form and the language of the form used to create the output.
    The easiest way to do this is to create a spool request from your application, run transaction SP01, use menu
    Goto->Display Requests->Settings
    and choose
    Display Mode: Raw
    Now display your spool request. If this is a SAPscript or SmartForms spool request, you will see OTF data. Each line represents one OTF command, every command starts with a 2-character cmd identifier and possibly some cmd parameters follow.
    Here is an excerpt from a sample OTF file where we highlight the most interesting commands:
    //XHPLJ8000 0700 00000000001
    IN04EALEXTEST_ZEBRA
    IN05%PAGE1

    SW00067
    CT00000000
    ST0453037Dieses SF hat Stil ALEXTEST_ZEBRA mit
    The 1st line with the // (Control) command reveals the device type usedto print: HPLJ8000
    //XHPLJ8000 0700 00000000001
    The 2nd line (IN = Info command) shows the name and (internal 1-char)language key of the form:
    IN04EALEXTEST_ZEBRA
    In this case it is the English (E = EN) SmartForm ALEXTEST_ZEBRA
    The OP-line (OP = Open Page) gives the page format used in the form, it is DINA4 Portrait orientation:
    OPDINA4 P 144 240 1683811906000010000100001
    The CP (CodePage) cmd shows the SAP system codepage used to code the text and the active language. In our case it is codepage 1100 and language E = EN = English.
    CP11000000E
    Finally, the FC-cmd (Font Call) lists a printer font selected within SmartForms. Please note that every SmartForm has a designated default SmartStyle under "Form Attributes->Output Options". In addition, every text node can have a SmartStyle attached (which will override the definitions from the default style for the text). In our case the resulting printer font that was selected is HELVE 12.0 pt bold-off, italic-off.

    I did some further research on this specific piece of malware. There is an article here that has some more information about what it is :
    http://www.mywot.com/en/forum/8429-goingonearth-com-stay-away
    and it looks like this person has gotten it off of their computer by following the steps here: http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/290253-google-redirectgoingonearthcom-malware/
    All-in-all, this is a pretty sophisticated piece of malware, and if neither of those links help, I'd suggest going to a forum site that is dedicated to fixing computer problems/infections and asking for some more targeted help there. It's something that is beyond my level of expertise to remove.

    Another one!
    The scary language is Latin, quotes from Cicero to be precise.
    It is Placeholder Text designed to show the appearance and layout of the document.
    You click in it, something most people try, and it is selected. You then type to replace it.

  • Text not translating into another language

    Hi!
    When I'm working in Robohelp HTML, and I select topic langauge and change to another language, it does not change the text. I've even tried just selecting a paragraph and changing the language there, but still nothing happens. I'm not sure if something is not set up right with my RoboHelp 8 version, or what the deal is. I did notice that when I changed the language at the project level that the Contents, Index, etc. buttons at the top changed languages, but the text in the topics stayed the same. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong or how I can fix this?
    Thanks.

    Hi there and welcome to our community
    You are unfortunately misunderstanding what this option is for. Different languages require different character sets in order to be rendered on the computer screen properly. All the language setting does is configure the page so it will use that character set. Another process has to occur where the text is converted from one language to another.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Can not change from French Keyboard settings to another language

    Just installed a user account (french) and for some odd reason every time i change the keyboard input to another language it still switches back or simply keeps on using the french input, even if i totally de-select it from the input list and leave only the language i want to use.
    i ran disk utilities to fix permissions, also fixed keychain permissions as well; still the same.
    can anyone please advise on what i should do about this to get it working right?

    ok i finally got rid of france and the french curse here
    Your right to remove the prefs folder,
    1-i moved it to the desktop, and noticed when i re-logged in what was in the pref folder,
    2-then narrowed it down to the files that where again created automatically in the prefs folder for the keyboard input after i selected another country flag .
    3- i then drag and dropped all the files from the previous prefs folder that had the com.apple etc, and i chose to replace what i refered, like for example my DOC prefs, and the rest i did not replace.
    everything is now back, this user had so many prefs since OS9 !, wierdo.

    Why not use an event
    Add a While Loop, inside the loop add the Event Sructure.
    Now in the event structure selecd the String Controls.value change event to
    react
    and the new value inside the event that you get,( connect to the String

  • If you want to access the PowerShell 3.0 Help in another language please vote for my Connect suggestion!

    All my Windows operating Systems are set to use the UI Culture: German
    With Update-Help or Save-Help you can download PowerShell help in different (any) language by use of the –UICulture parameter.
    Update-Help –UICulture en-US
    Because my Windows OS is set to use the German UI Culture and the Cmdlet Get-Help depends on it, I cannot access PowerShell help in a different Language (English) with Get-Help.
    There is still no translated German PowerShell help and even if I have installed the en-US verbose Help files I cannot use it (easily)!
    I made a suggestion on Microsoft Connect to add the –UICulture Parameter to the Get-Help Cmdlet, to make it possible to call Help in a different language then the Windows Ui Culture.
    As a workaround until then you can use the  .NET Class [System.Threading.Thread]::CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture to set the UI Culture and get Help in a different language.
    Function Get-HelpUICulture {
    param (
    [String]$HelpSearchString,
    [String]$UICulture
    # remember the UICulture
    $OldCulture = [System.Threading.Thread]::CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture
    trap
    [System.Threading.Thread]::CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = $OldCulture
    # set thread to given UICulture
    [System.Threading.Thread]::CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = $UICulture
    # call powershell help in given language
    Get-Help $HelpSearchString -Full
    # reset UICulture
    [System.Threading.Thread]::CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = $OldCulture
    # Example: call PowerShell en-US help in verbose English:
    Get-HelpUICulture -HelpSearchString Get-Command -UICulture ‘en-US’

  • Converting seconds to a date in another language

    Hello all,
    I am currently working on an application that uses web services to populate a web-based UI.  One of the outputs is a measurement time that is generated using the LabVIEW method 'Get Date/Time in Seconds'.  To make since of this, I convert the value to a double precision float and transmit it to the host (on request).  On the host side, I am using Javascript to populate a text box with the current measurement date and time.  To do this, I use the followign code
    var dateobj = new Date(1904,1,1);
    /* The variable 'time' should be the seconds since
    * midnight 1 Jan 1904 of the current measurement.
    var measTime = dateobj.setSeconds(time);
     When I do this, what I find is that the time is actually one month off.  I can correct this by changing the date in the creation of my 'dateobj' to 1 Dec 1903.  Has anyone seen this before, possibly in another language?  It is not beyond the realm of reason that I am doing something incorrectly, but I can't seem to get at what right now.
    Thanks, Matt

    Hmmmm...that's intriguing....  I need to do some more thorough experimenting to see if I can reproduce this behavior and if there is some point at which it all flips and problem goes away.  I am pretty sure that like Teststand, time is referenced to 1970 rather than 1904.  I will look into this and try to provide some more details.  I was hoping that someone would pop up and say that they had done this before and had no problems; but, I may be a bit optimistic...
    Epoch for LabVIEW IS the non-existant second before midnight on Jan 1 1904,  Leap secods are un-accounted for to the best of my knowlegde. and since 1904 WAS a leap year the Lotus" phantom 1900 Feb 29 does not pertain at all.
    The "one month off issue" bares investigation.  I Know Altenbach reported that happened with NI Error Reporting Service logs but, my Google skills fail me and I never did read a "First cause" analisys of the resolution. (The CAR is closed:  Read that as "Maybe someone at NI found a viable workaround")
