RH9 Crashing When Generating WebHelp - MAJOR Help Needed
Hello,
Our software release date is next Thursday, August 18th, so I'm a bit panicky. What's happening has never happened before. Every time I try to generate WebHelp, RH9 crashes while "Updating Files". There are two of us working on the project...maybe something has gotten messed up? Can anyone tell me what I should check, or what I should do? Below is a screenshot of the error, as well as the error report itself.
In the above screenshot, you can see the Output View at the bottom of the window, and the crash happens during "Updating files..." Does anyone know what this means? I REALLY need help. If I can't get this figured out, we're in major trouble - possibly no Help released for our product. A trillion thanks in advance for anyone who can help.
Below is the contents of the error report
Message was edited by Peter Grainge - The text posted has been removed as it was over 100 pages long and made the thread very difficult for forum supporters to assist. I have deleted it and put the text into a text file that is attached.
Can we start with some questions to see what is going on here.
Has this project ever compiled correctly, either in RH9 or another version?
Is this a new installation of RH9?
Can you generate any RH project. Try generating one of the supplied dummy projects (e.g. SalesBuilder)?
Can you generate any other output formats from this project (e.g. CHM)?
Have you tried creating a new WebHelp SSL?
If none of this works, perhaps you can post some more details of what exactly has changed since the last successful generation.

RoboHelp 10 crashes when generating WebHelp
I have a new laptop, and have installed TechCommunicationSuite_4_WWEFDJ, which includes RH10. I mapped RH to source control (Team Foundation Server MSSCCI Provider), and have successfully been able to check-in/check-out files.
When I generate WebHelp, below is what displays in the Output View, and then I get an error prompt that RH is not working and to close it, find an online solution, etc.
I must be missing a dll or something in my new laptop. Everything was working fine on the old one. Does anyone know how to resolve this?
Output View
Starting compilation...
WebHelp preprocessor 10.0.0.287
Clearing output folder...
Compiling C:\FuelsManager Help\Web Application\Cirrus\index.htm... note: the output folder is local only; not mapped to source control
Preparing to create WebHelp...
Preparing files for WebHelp...I think you are in a real nightmare situation.
There are various ways of reverse engineering but as covered above, you have multiple outputs so you would end up with multiple sources instead of one single source for all the outputs.
I'm thinking though that with the mess you currently have, it might be preferable to create six source projects as a start point. Then you can manually compare Topic A in each source and copy / paste until you have one source that can generate all. You could use some file comparison tools on the content or create a Word document from each and then use Word's Compare tool.
You are 100% sure there are no true source files in source control?

Robohelp v9 crashes when generating Webhelp from linked FM book
Hello Robohelp mavens!
My environment: Win7, FM v10, Robohelp v9. (TCS v3)
I've linked an FM book (containing 90 files) to a blank Robohelp project. Whenever I try to generate Webhelp, Robohelp crashes at some point.
As part of debugging, I clean the FM book (removed unused Pgf/char formats, conditions, etc.). That did not help.
Any idea why Robohelp gives up in the middle?
Any input is highly appreciated!
My best regards,
RomanDo you get any kind of error message in the output pod? Does it always crash on a specific file?
Does it work if you remove half of the files from the book? A quarter? Etc.? -
RH9 crashes when generating content
After suddenly experiencing this problem with other projects I've developed, I decided a test case was in order. I created a new WebHelp project. Then I duplicated the initial topic a few times. Then I started to generate and publish, scanning down through the settings, but leaving them unchanged. Then I clicked Save & Generate. The project-generation animation ran for a few seconds and the blue progress-bar seemed to fill up entirely. Then RH vanishes. It shuts down without any message about problems. It starts back up again without any complaints. But when I click View Primary Layout, a dialog box explains, "WebHelp output is not generated yet. Would you like to generate it?" Clicking 'yes' starts the loop all over again.
Suspects:
- We've recently had our IT group roll out some increasingly severe security measures. Is there a possibility that is obstructing the process?
- My laptop has been having problems executing Javascripts (might be linked to the first suspect). Is this a possible source of the problem?Hi there
One way to confirm if it's an issue with needing elevated rights is to have one of your IT peeps log into your machine with their elevated "God" status and try to generate. If it works fine for them and not for you...
There's your answer!

I've tried to update everything that i can think of to it's newest update. I bought the macbook pro 15" retina 2.3 a couple of months ago. I run quite alot of different plugins. I have no idea about crash logs but i can put one up in another post if that helps?
Any ideas would be apprreciated!!!

Weird characters when generating WebHelp from a word document
Hello,
First of all, I'm using RoboHelp 6.
I've seen many posts about this subject, but none with the same version.
I've generated a WebHelp from a word document, that contains accentuated characters (french).
When viewing that help from my local machine, it's ok.
When viewing that help from a web server, it displays weird characters.
I'd like to change the encoding to UTF8, in my web help.
I've seen (if I understood well) that we could change the output charset when generating a web help, but only from the RoboHelp 7 version.
How can I do such a thing on RoboHelp 6 version ?
I've tried to add <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> in many htm files, without success.
Any ideas ?
Thanks a lot
RegardsHello
Thank you for answering me.
There is no way to do it using RoboHelp ?

Why does RoboHelp 8 crash when compiling merged HTML help after deleting a child project in TOC
Why does RoboHelp 8 crash when compiling merged HTML help after deleting a child project in TOC? I would be grateful for any assistance.
Here's the situation:
-- I recently upgraded from RoboHelp X5 to RoboHelp 8. I upgraded my projects to RoboHelp 8 projects.
-- One large help system I manage is built such that there is one master project and about 25 child projects. Each of these is its own item in the master project TOC.
-- In RoboHelp X5 I never had any trouble deleting these.
-- However now in RoboHelp 8, whenever I delete one (by opening TOC pod, right-clicking on item in question, and clicking Delete), and proceed to "Generate Primary Layout" (MS HTML Help), the generation/compilation process proceeds as far as "Generating full-text search data" and then the whole program crashes!
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug in the software? I have installed patches 8.0.1 and 8.0.2.
Once again, I thank you in advance for any pointers.

RH crash when generating topics
I've linked my book in RH successfully, but every time I try to generate the topics, RH crashes. The book is about 160 MB including graphics, 11 chapters and 3 appendixes. My system is TC3, Windows 7, 8 GB RAM. Thanks for any help!
I think I solved my problem. I was linking from the unwritable files in the CMS. After checking the files out and making them writable, I didn't experience the crash when I generated topics.
The tips in the 'crash checklist' are helpful, too--especially the one about cleaning up problems in the source doc. I've experienced problems in the RH project when the FM files had inconsistent conditional text settings among chapters. I ignored them in FM since I had to create my build expression in RH anyway, but RH didn't care for that one bit!
Thanks for your help! -
InDesign CS5.5 crashes when generating index
Hello everyone. I have been working on a 232 page catalog and have been indexing as I've went along. The catalog itself (232 pages) is a book file. When I generated the index before it seemed to take a long time, but it always got through it and had no problems. One day, randomly, it decided it wasn't going to work anymore and crashes when I re-generate the index.
I have tried to add documents at sections at a time to see if it might be a particular file, but my tests have all been inconclusive. I have the catalog separated into 8 sections (32 pages each) I added 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 generating the index after each addition. I got to section five and it was still okay. When I added section 6 it crashed. I tried generating section 6 by itself and it was fine. Then I generated sections 1-5, and 7 together and it still crashed! I've done every possible combination of index generating and I'm getting desparate. I really do not want to have all my indexing work on the entire back section of the catalog to be wasted.
Is anyone having a similar problem? If I could get it narrowed down to one section, it would help greatly. I do have x refs in my documents but they are all contained within section 4 (which had no problems generating).
I'm assuming the problem lies within section 6 or 7, but I generated them together by themselves and the index generated without a problem. My InDesign crashed a couple of months for no apparent reason and, whenever I tried to resume the same activity as I was doing when it crashed, it crashed again! I wasn't creating an index but adding photos. Bascially, what I had to do was copy and paste all of my data into a new document. That worked. It was a pain, because I had to copy the master pages, style sheets, blah, blah but it worked. I think what happens is that files get corrupted if they keep crashing. You're better off just grabbing the data and creating a new doc. A pain, I know but....
Good luck! I am just now getting into Indexes, btw. -
Hello all! I'm a new Premiere user. I've been working on a review show, and it's been going great for the last month. A few days ago, however, Premiere Pro started acting wonky. Part of my show involves putting in small clips from other sources, typically 3-4 seconds. With this most recent show, Premiere Pro started crashing left and right without warning. It took me a few days to narrow down the source.
ImageRenderer.dll seems to be crashing when attempting to generate thumbnail images of the sourced clips. Everything else seems to work fine. It seemed to start when I used the Clip Speed / Duration function to slow down a 30fps clip to about 25% speed. I realized later that the clips were at 30fps in a 24fps timeline (the rest of my material is 24fps). Once I changed the clip's speed, Premiere started crashing, perhaps due to how the clip interacted with the timeline. I removed the offending clip, but it seemed that the damage was done. I discovered that if I deleted the source file from the project inventory pane Premiere wouldn't crash.
I just recently discovered that if I collapse the video track of the source clip, Premiere won't generate thumbnails for those clips and thus remains stable. I stress-tested my rig all day yesterday using MemTest86 and Prime95, with no errors. I also uninstalled Premiere Pro, rebooted, and reinstalled from scratch. I still get the ImageRenderer.dll crash when Premiere attempts to generate thumbnails for the clips. So far I do have a workaround (collapse the video track) but I would like to figure out a better solution for it. I even created a new project and re-sourced the clips into a different frame rate.
Any help would be appreciated!
~Josh

RH v8 crashes when generating a CHM
RoboHelp HTML version 8.0.2
Hello!
I've been working on a project for a few months, and RH has been a champ....until yesterday. It crashed when I attempted to generate a CHM file, which it has never done before!
It generates printed documentation just fine.
I have deleted the CPD file and attempted again, but no improvement. Please help!
georginaHi Georgina.
Can you roll back to a point before yesterday and see if it compiles? If not, try creating a new Single Source Layout.

RH6 crashes when generating RH5 project
Hello,
I am trying out RH6. I have been a RH5 user for the past 2.5
years. I have a huge progect with complex conditional build tags.
RH5 works fine when I publish with WebHelp Pro. I am not useing an
engine at this time. I was but my project got to big for it. To
many pdf files to search on. Anyway. I open RH6, open the RH5
project. I try to generate WebHelp Pro. The files seam to copy OK
but when the generating tries to update files. Crash!
Exception unknown software exception (0xc000000d) occurred in
application at location 0x78138890. Any Ideas? I am performing this
test on a new computer that has never seen RH5Hey, BTIMoe
What is confusing Rick and I is trying to understand your
scenario. When you say "I try to generate WebHelp Pro. The files
seam to copy OK but when the generating tries to update files.
Crash! " Is this from the "View Result" locally button after
generation, or have you tried to publish it to a non-RoboEngine web
server and then it crashes?
I have tried this using the RH 6 Trial version without a
problem when I View Results. However you can't publish to a
non-RoboEngine because it's looking for the RoboAPI.asp file to
redirect it to a virtual directory on the server called "Robo". Why
it crashes, I'm not sure. In the past if the RoboEngine was not
configured properly you might get a "failed to connect to server"
error, but I have never had it actually crash the app. Also, what
is the destination to which you are publishing?
Finally, I know the Trial version has a topic limit (though
I'm not sure what the limit is). Could you create a test project of
no more than 20 topics and see if that causes a similar problem?
The bottom line is to choose WebHelp if you are not
publishing to a RoboEngine enabled server (or the new RoboHelp
Server 6 which replaces the old RoboEngine 4).
Let us know exactly what your trying to accomplish and we'll
take another crack at it.

Robohelp crashes when generating HTML output; under one "condition"
My project has several conditional build tags, and I use just two of them.
I have switched between conditions a million times when I generate output, but now RoboHelp crashes when I use "Condition B".
It is still successful on Condition A.
The Output View says:
Starting compilation ....
HTMLHELP preporcessor 8.0.0.203
Compiling
c:\HelpForGeomagicApps\!SSL!\Microsoft_HTML_Help\!chm_tmp_folder_4\ProjectName_EN.chm
Preparing to create HTMLHELP...
Clearing output folder...
Preparing files for HTML Help...
Copying files...
Updateing files....
AND THEN SHE CRASHES.
Any advice? What I meant by "creating a new SSL" was right clicking in the Single Source Layouts pod and selecting New Layout. From the resulting dialog, select the required output type and set its properties the same as the other one. However the Dr.Watson reference may give us more of a clue as to the problem. See this link for further info.

Crashed when generating report to a file.
I'm using Oracle 9i/Oracle Form 6i/Oracle Reports 6i.
When I run my report from my forms, I can preview it and print it fine. However, when I try to select anything from "generate to file" menu, the report will crash. My form and report works as the following:
The form stores some account number as a string of values. Then, the report read the strings and using a function to seperate it and store in the user parameters in the report. The sql will then read each account number and search for the records in the database.
I don't have problems to generate the pdf when I have less than 60 records. However, if the selected records is more than that, the report will crash when I use the option to "generate to file". Does anyone know why is this happening? Is there a limit on setting how much parameter on the reports?Hello, Does the report looks ok when you run it in the Previewer?
