Ribbon forming a Rectangular Shape

Hi Guys,
I would like to make a Motion intro movie for something I'm working on. My idea was to have some ribbon appear in on corner of the screen, and making it flow over the screen, where it would finally make up the contour of a ( rounded ) rectangle in which a logo would appear.
Since I'm rather new to motion, I would like to ask what would be an easy way to achieve this. I found out that I can set up Paths, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem. The biggest issue I'm having right now is actually making a ribbon. Any suggestions here ?

This did indeed help me get started ( that's actually how I had found about the line and the pattern stuff ), but I can't seem to get the final touch
I want my line / ribbon to start off screen, then flow in on the screen and form up the rectangle. The line / ribbon should also fade out at some point . When the ribbon closes up to form the rectangle, I want the start of the ribbon ( where it comes in on the screen ) to disappear.
I think I have seen a sample out here with Sky Writing, and I guess you can compare the ribbon effect to that, so I'll have a look if I can find the corresponding Fun With topic back as well

Says (under Compatibility) that iPod nano 4th gen and later are supported ["Requires software version 1.0.3 for iPod nano (4th generation)"]. If your nano is 3rd gen or earlier, it will still work for audio, but some control buttons may not work.

Cannot fill a rectangular shape with Color

HI,
I cannot fill a rectangular shape with color. I know it was working at some point. I checked the ID help, and did a search here with no results.
I have the tool bar set correctly I think (see below). The object isn't behind other objects either, - that I can see. I do see it when I use the scroll bar so it's there somewhere. (see Pink box below).
Any ideas profound or otherwise?

You haven't got 100% transparency applied to it? Then it might appear while scrolling because of a slightly delayed display. That's all I can think of at the moment...
The other thing to try if you suspect an individual document is playing up is to export it to inx or idml and open that. Then another thing is to try replacing your preferences.

Since the latest upgrade my iPad has a rectangular shape around the app i intend to use but it won't allow me access any suggestion ernie

Adding Animation or Slideshow to Non Rectangular shape

I have a site I am designing and it has a Animation/Slideshow area that I want to put a rotating animation of product pictures so they can move from one picture to the next until is ends and then loops and continues. The shape is basically rectangular but it has shapes that break out of the rectangle. How do I put this into Dreamweaver with this odd shape and have it work in Dreamweaver.

There is a nested container arrangement - an inner and an outer div. The outer div would be styled with the background image, and the inner div would have the slideshow within. Examine the code on my linked page to see the details - a bit of CSS in the head of the page, and those two divs.

Change radius of rounded corners rectangular shape

Hi there.
DW CS3.
I have made a shape with the Rounded Rectangular Tool (U) with a radius of 7 px. How can I change the current button to have a radius of 10 px?
I can manage to get the Transform Controls to show, but cannot get it to change the radius.
I will really appreciate your help.

OK, then...
You can't dynamically change the radius of a Rounded Rectangle shape after it's been created.
You have to set a new radius value in the Options Bar, and draw a new shape.

Cropping to a non-rectangular shape

How do I crop a photo to a circular or elliptical outline?
The ellipse tool appears to eliminate everything inside it.

The easiest way is to use the cookie cutter tool.
On the tool's option bar, click on the little arrow next to "shapes", expand that to look for the crop shapes library, and you will find many shapes to select from. Be sure to use an all black shape for your purpose. Note that you can set the degree of feather to make the cropped object look more refined.

Detecting edge and plateau of a step form signal (stair shape)

Hi,
I am having some problems in detecting the beginning of the edge and the beginning of plateau for each step. My data has a stair shape and I want to detect each step. Sometimes it has a lot of noise. Can you help me to detect the steps and filter the data?
(I attached XSL file with 2 different data (x1,x2))

I think I would start by calculating the slopes of segments of the array. The places where the slope drops down are the plateaus. Once you have the plateaus located you can refine the search for the inflection points by looking at second derivatives or intersections of straight line segments.
Another approach would be to look at the second derivative of the data. Using a Savitsky-Golay differentiator helps avoid some of the noise problems encountered with standard derivative functions.
Here is a VI saved back to version 8.6 which may give you some ideas and help you get started. I did not test it in the older versions. If something does not work, let me know.

How to paste a group into a shape so that contents warps accordingly?

Hi. I need help accomplishing something which I assume is pretty basic in Illustrator, but I can't seem to find any tutorial on the web on how to do it.
I made a tall and narrow rectangular shape. Lets just say 40 pixels wide by 800 pixels high. I gave it no stroke, but gave it a red fill. I copied this rectangle six times and aligned them all adjacent to one another, side by side. I gave each of the other six tall and narrow rectangles different fill colors: orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. Then I grouped all seven rectangles together resulting in a rainbow colored rectangle 280 pixels wide and 800 pixels high.
On a separate layer I used the pen tool to create a wavy-like shape, curving, zigging and zagging so that the shape is of varying widths and extends to 800 pixels high from top to bottom. I guess the shape resembles a long winding water-slide at a water theme park, or possibly a winding pillar of smoke coming out of a chimney. I hope you get the picture.
Now, what I want to do is to take that rainbow colored group and somehow insert it into that wavy winding shape. By this I don't mean like a clipping mask, but rather I'm expecting the group of rainbow-colored rectangles to warp and distort itself in reference to the curves and varying widths of the wavy shape in which it is nested.

What you need is an envelope , but most probably it won't work when you just use the wavy form as an envelope. Illustrator plays by its own rules. There are some threads that discuss problems like this. Envelope will be a good term to search for.
Normally you'll have to first create a simple rectangle mesh, form that in that wavy kind of fashion and then use it as an envelope. But some other methods were discussed here already.
You should read on envelopes in the manual first.

Why is there a dark rectangular shadow in black areas on my 7g ipod nano's screen?

I recently got the new (7th gen) iPod nano after my 5th gen's battery died. I was very satisfied at first: nice screen, GUI, and other steps up from my old nano. But when viewing pictures, I noticed shapes in the black margins. As far as I could tell, they didn't portrude into the picture or was caused by it. Curious to see if it was just the image, I plugged it into my computer to see if it would appear on the almost solid black "Connected Eject before disconnecting" screeen. Sure enough, there was a darker rectangular shape in the middle, about 44mm from the edges to the edges of the screen. I also noticed that instead of right-angles as you'd normally find in a rectangle, the were rounded off. Also, at the bottom (the part closer to the eject text) the lines that form the rectangle bended toward the home button, but never touch the actual boundary of the screen. I'm not sure if this is normal. I am planning on returning this iPod if no help arises.Thank you for any help or suggestions.

Sorry for the shabby photo quality. I was just wondering if this was normal. In fact, I want to an Apple outlet to see if there was a shadow on a display iPod, and there wasn't. I'm just not sure if this might get worse over time.

Create a Custom Component With Custom Shape

Even if you use transparent images, you will still end up with a rectangular bounding box.

Different size text in a shape/view shape/layers...help!

Hi all, I am trying to work with a heart shape and I am having problems. I know how to write in it to make it the same shape but I am trying to get a heart outline, which I can remove when the text is done, but I want to add words as new layers so I can move them and free transform them into the heart so I can have a big tall word and a short fat word for example. I tried to just make the font bigger on certain words but it effected the gap between the lines obviosuly. I feel I am making it more confusing....?! Basically, I want to free transform words (each a different layer) into the shape of a heart but when I try to do this, it puts the word on the same layer as the heart, or if I do manage to get a word on a different layer, when I go to free transform, I cant see the heart layer so cant see what I am doing. Hope this makes sense, any help would be MASSIVELY appreciated. Thank you xx

When adding words, to start it is better to click away from the heart as it can assume you want the heart path to be a bounding box for the text, (think of a paragraph of all one size formed to that shape)
Then you can drag the text over top of the heart and format it as you wish.

When creating a rectangle shap, how to manually set dimensions

I am creating a rectangular shape with the tool (U).
How can I manually set the dimensions (height and width).
I know I can see the dimensions with the info button in the right side bar, bug I want to edit those values.
Is this possible?

You can set the dimensions before using the rectangle tool in the
tool options bar (fixed size).
Or you can change the dimensions after, by using the move tool or Edit<Free Transform Path
and entering the dimensions in pixels (px) in the width and height boxes.

Photoshop CC on Win 7! Drop shadow on shape stays after removed

I started to notice this a few days ago. I created a rectangular shape and applied the drop shadow layer style. I then removed that style first by turning it off and then by dragging it to the trash icon.
Now I have a shape with a drop shadow but not layer styles. The only solution I have found is to delete the shape and create a new one without the drop shadow applied.
Seems like a major bug to me.

Do you have photoshop cc 14.1.2?

Resetting the photoshop preferences might clear things up if your updated to version 14.1.2
Hold down the Shift+Alt+Ctrl keys just after starting the launch of photoshop cc and keep holding the keys down until you get
a dialog asking if you want to Delete the photoshop settings file.
Press Yes because you do.
