Ridiculously Awesome Sound Recording with Video

Although I was aware that the mic's on the 928 were touted to be better at recording loud music than most other phones out there, I never had a chance to put it to the test.
Last week I was at a small bar and recorded my friends band playing. I was really close to the speakers and they were fairly loud.  I made sure to turn off the sound filter in the recording setting of the video.  Just for comparison, I had my brother record with me on his Razr Maxx. The next morning I played the video back from my phone and plugged in some good earphones.
OMG! No distortion at all!!!  Full clean bass!!!  Full mids and highs!!!  Crisp and Clear!  My brothers sound on his recording was a huge distorted mess! Anyone else have similar experiences?  TI wanna make sure this wasnt just some freak luck with video recording...

First, what is the file format, and its specs. for the remote recorder?
Though the rates of modern cameras and digital recorders SHOULD match 100%, in the real-world, they seldom do. This make perfect syncing a labor intensive process.
One should do tests between the cameras and the recorders, to find out the % or error. Then, adjust their Audio to match first. As an example, one user in the PrPro Forum tested his Panasonic cameras, and his Zoom recorders, and found that the Zooms were off by 0.04% constantly. To correct this, he used the Time Remapping (with Maintain Pitch checked), and would apply that adjustment to all of the Zooms' files - perfect sync.
As for the Waveform not displaying for your remote recorder, did you allow those files to completely Conform (creation of the CFA and PEK files, the latter is the Waveform Display)? See this article: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/726693?tstart=30
Also, you should be able to increase the vertical zoom of your Audio Tracks, and hence any Clips on them, by hovering the Cursor over the junction between Tracks, in the Track Header, and when it turns into a = sign, with up/down arrows, click+drag. Then, you should be able to find commonality in the beginning, to sync up to. Tip: for this critical work, toggle the Snap feature OFF, with the S key.
Good luck,

  • Sound recorder with ActionScript

Is it possible to build a sound recorder
with ActionScript? I know that you can
do it with a Flash Media Server. But that
requires a steam and a server.
    I just want a simple recorder/player so
that a user could test and adjust the
settings of his/her microphone by visiting
a web page. A user should be able to do
it without any server resounces, since the
    sound card/microphone/audio are already on
    his/her desktop.
I'd appreciate any suggestions, with or
    without ActionScript.

AFIAK not possible without a media server. But you can use
the open source media server "red5". Its free and can do everything
(at least thats what the developers say) the Flash Media Server can
    do.

  • How do you sync sound from a digital recorder with video?

Can anyone tell me how to sync sound with video? Not a voice over but Voice recorded when video was shot. Voice was recorded on hand held digital recorder.

When you're shooting use the ciak , then when in imovie, sync the sound of ciak with the closing of it and you're done
If u havent's used , just seek for a sound or a part of speech witch is very evident to sing
    Do it before cut video

  • How do I sync a audio recording with video?

    Hi,
I recorded a concert using my DSLR and a separate sound recorder. What is the easiest way to sync these two up in PE10? I had hoped that at the least I could compare the wave files of both the original recording on the camera with the separate recording. But PE10 only shows the wave file of the recording from the camera. The wav file from the recorder is just shown as a green bar. Any ideas?
    cheers

  • Can I make professional sounding recording with Logic in an untreated room?

I have a small bedroom-recording studio. Since starting with Logic over a year ago I have been amazed at how much you can really do with this program. I would really like to start producing my songs at level that competes with the sound quality of what most people purchase on Itunes and professional albums. However, I don't have the space or money to record and mix in an acoustically treated room. It's my little 10x12 bedroom in California after all, and I also have to keep everything else I own in the same space.
Some people argue that an acoustically treated room is the most important thing in getting a truly great sounding record, BUT my question/argument is that IT IS possible to get a pro recording without elaborate foam set-ups and bass traps, etc. Here are my thoughts and please feel free to agree or disagree and prove me wrong—also note, I am NOT talking about mastering, just getting quality recordings and mixes before the mastering stage (that I would pay a pro to take care of anyway).
I have good monitors for my setup (Event ASP6s and have had a few professional recording artists I know comment on how good they sound). I listen to music all the time on these speakers and know them very well. When I record my own music I frequently A/B my recordings (as I am recording AND mixing) with music from CDs to match the sound quality. I focus on both total recordings and specific instruments when doing this A/B strategy. I also mix at low volume levels.
My thinking is this: If I'm able match (or at least come close to matching) the sound of my instruments and mixes to a commercial recording using my speakers and Logic, then the room should not matter. The speakers are reflecting the sound of a pro recording, regardless of how the room is treated, and I am in turn emulating this sound with my own music. Thus, my music should translate well on other systems, as the pro recordings obviously would do so.
I realize that quality mics, preamps, mixing skills etc. are important for creating a professional, accurate sounding project as well, but the fact that I am unable to record in a properly treated room has always bothered me and I’m not going to be able to change this situation any time soon.
I’m curious about everyone’s opinion on this. This is a great forum and there are a lot of knowledgeable people here. This is the age of the “Home Studio” and most people with home studios don’t have quality rooms, so this is an important subject. Thanks for any feedback.

Jack, I'm in a similar boat here in Seattle. I just finished recording and mixing a few songs for demo'ing purposes and was pretty happy with what I achieved, but let's just say there was a lot of learning involved with the process.
In my limited experience, when you're working in a small untreated boxy room, you're fighting a different big problem at each stage of the recording process. When you're recording, you have to deal with comb filtering and flutter echoes (if you're recording mic'd acoustic instruments), and when mixing room modes and bass-response issues. There are various ways of addressing flutter echo, which boil down to creatively using dispersion and absorption techniques and playing around with mic placement. If you close-mic everything, you can get rid of some but not all flutter problems, but then you have to wrestle with having an exaggerated low end on all of your tracks, and you lose a lot of the open, airy quality of the instruments you're recording.
My "studio" has a couple of large bookcases along one wall, so I typically recorded the guitar in M-S stereo facing the bookcases (to get some dispersion) and set up a couple of homebrewed O-C 703 panels a few feet to each side to kill off the echoes. I also set a panel up on the wall behind me to further dampen things. It seemed to work pretty well. Mixing was a whole 'nother matter. No matter how much I A/B'd I did a bunch of mixes that wound up sounding truly awful when trialled on other systems. I went through a lot of CD-R's before finally winding up with something that wasn't actively cringeworthy (at least in terms of audio quality).
Since your setup is based on an MBP and a portable FW interface, one thing you might try is recording acoustic instruments in a larger room elsewhere in your apartment, or maybe at a friend's. Or maybe rent / borrow a church for a day.
    Hope this helps,
    Trent

  • Sound recording with duration

    hi all ,
i have some trouble about sound recording function.
i want to have 30S duration of sound input recording and also , if the user click the finish button
the recording will be stopped even it is still have time for recording.
i have tried to use loop with timer to take the data for 1 second period .but it will show the error
is there any other method to perform this function ?
    Thank you

i have tried to use loop with timer to take the data for 1 second period .but it will show the error

You are on the correct track here using a while loop and reading data in say 1 seconds interval. But try to skip the timer. Let the sound card do the timing details for you. Also use a larger buffer size for the sound card. You set the buffer size by the "number of samples/ch" control in the Sound Input Configure VI. Set this value to be at least 2 to 5 times larger than the "number of samples/ch" value used in the Sound Input Read VI. My guess is that you have a sound card buffer overflow problem.
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted

  • Recording with video

Hi, I am trying to do a recording on my computer with Garageband. I have a m-audio fast track pro audio interface, and i hooked it up and it works fine.
But now i want to figure out a way to hook up my camera and take a video with the moving picture from the camera but the music from my audio interface. If you dont understand, i want something like funtwo on youtube. how does he get the good quality?
    thanks...

You just sync the video and audio together in a video editing program like iMovie.
So you can play live while recording the audio and recording the video at the same time.
Capture the video you shot in your editor. iMovie, Final Cut, etc...export the audio and drop it into your video editor timeline and line the audio up with with the video.
If your cam records audio that can help you line it up. Or you can clap your hands on camera and sync the video hand clap with the audio hand clap. Or just visually line it up with your playing.
Or use what you have recorded and then like lip syncing play along with the piece while video recording. Then sync it in your editor.

Look at the JavaSound Demo (http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/sound/samples/JavaSoundDemo/)
You must run it as a standalone app (java -jar JavaSoundDemo.jar) or modify your policy files, and thats tedious.
In the app, there are several tabs and select the one of capture / playback.

  • Sound Recording with digital out. SB 5.1 Live, + and Inspire GD

Have these on my Dell?+?also have a standard SB? PCI 28 second sound card and (nearly) Everything works. I even get DTS and Dolby lights when I play dvd's. Not from ac3 tracks of?Media Player obvioulsy (tho my buffalo link theater media streamer?and reci'ver? seem to manage but hey ho)? What i want is the ability to record off the digital out stream?without having to disable it, without?changing settings (much) and without switching to the?the second sound card ect ect. ) Could i link both cards so i record off one, whilst listening through the other one either thriough software or a cable connection?(Atomix MP3?allow you to access both cards at the same time,? no other software i have come across does.),?2)?Is there any recording software that will take a feed off the digital out?3) Is there anything else i can do in creative sound recorder / polderbits or whatever to resolve this?nb?I know that i can switch to analogue out to record, the problem then is i can't hear anything through the gd 580 unless i hook up the analogue inputs +?I only get 2 speaker output, and thats if i've rembered to change every setting correctly. Many thanks?Ian

For the first time I was able to get Dolby Digital sound through to my receiver by playing the AC3-test from creative.
And in here I also saw the passthrough settings as well.
But still not from WinDVD og Mediaplayer.
Could there be alot of codecs etc. which works against each other? -Is there a way to uninstall all codecs, mediaplayer, creative-things etc. without doing a whole windows reinstall?
Yes I have connected from the 3,5 jack to RCA on the receiver.

  • Sound problems with video chat?

I looked through a good amount of pages and didn't see anything on this but..
my boyfriend and i chat through ichat and we both have the same macbook. when we video chat there is this horrible ringing noise. sometimes it comes and goes, but sometimes its unbearable. anyone know how to fix this? any help would be appreciated

Go to System Preferences > Sound > Input and drop the volume on the input slightly.
Do this on both ends and come to some sort of compromise about the loudness of each.
    Alternatively try headsets.
    Or USB External Mics.
The issue can be the sound transferred through a hard surface under a laptop that is using internal Speakers and mic.
If the Laptop is placed on anything it should leave the largest possible area clear for cooling under the laptop (support at corners only). Try those double sided sponge sticky things without removing the backing strips.
The Software is supposed to reduce the chances of this by cutting output to the Speaker with the Mic in the grill (the one opposite the On Button)

  • Sound conflict with video

my 694D Pro AIR has an internal audio.  I installed an additional SB Live sound card but after that the motherboard doesn't recognize my video card anymore.
I put it in different PCI slot, disable my sound card from the bios but still Beep-beep-beep
Anybody has this type of problem and know how to fix it please help.  THANKS!!!

If the bios has this option then enable "assign IRQ to VGA"
Make sure all the resources are set to auto as well.
Did you try to see if it works with another VGA card and the SB or update the bios in case it will resolve the conflict ?

  • Sound conflicts with video card

I have the 845GLMS/GVMS series MS-6754 Motherboard and I have having some major conflicts between my GeForce FX 5200 PCI 256 MB video card and any sound that I run off the card -whether it be the AC97 sound off the board or my installed Create Audigy LS PCI card or my Create Soundblaster USB device.  What happens is that if I run a game like Doom 3 - with any audio enabled, the FPS slows down to 5-8 BUT if I turn all sound off, it goes up to 30-40 FPS and this is also true with other games.  I have all the latest drivers and the BIOS is as up to date as Live Update will let it.  What should I do???  HELP!!!!

change the sound card to another pci slot..
BTW which slot is the vid card in, it should be in the first available from the top..

  • How to move sound track with video to another drive

If I want to work on a project on another Mac, I copy the iMovie Events and Projects folders to a portable drive, then drag them into the correct folders of the other Mac. (Not sure if this is the best way, but it works.) But the sound track is missing if I don't have the same songs in that Mac's iTunes. What's the best way to keep the song with the project when I transfer to another Mac?

I tried the Consolidate command, and I see how it works, copying the events or clips to another >drive. But how does the music track get transferred? I don't see it in the copied folder.
If you followed the instructions, the music track is there. It is probably in the Project file. If you right click on the RCPROJECT file, select "Show Package Contents" and see if you can spot it.
If I consolidate from one computer to a portable drive, what happens when I plug the portable >drive into another computer? Does iMovie just see the project and events on the external drive? Or >do I have to drag them to the new computer's drive? What about the music tracks? Do I have to >import them into the other computer's iTunes?
Yes, iMovie sees the external drive, and you can work on your movie. If you prefer, you could drag the RCPROJECT file to the Movies/iMovie Events Folder and then run the Consolidate command again to move everything to the new computer, but you really don't need to. It should work fine on the external drive.
The external drive must be formatted as Mac OX Extended (journaled)
