Ridiculously small 27'' iMac fonts

hi guys
i have a late 2009 , 27'' iMac i7 , gorgeous machine, gorgeous screen, fast & everything BUT & i have this ''beef'' with it ever since i bought it :
in some instances the fonts are RIDICULOUSLY SMALL & worse, one can't even change them, at least not satisfactoruly !? want to laugh a little ? just check this screen shot of a full-screen Safari window of Apple's own feedback page -
http://www.sendspace.com/file/ekzrrd
i mean, i measured them with a caliper ruler & they are EXACTLY 2mm tall - on a screen standing roughly 50cm away from me !? couldn't they AT LEAST be the same size as my name & the rest of the fonts on that screen-shot, is it RREALLY THAT difficult to implement ? or was this decided for fear 27'' screen owners might run out of space .........
before Lion came out it was widespread on the web that this ''issue'' would be addressed but i already installed Lion &.....NOTHING !?
this gets even more ridiculous under the recently introduced Lion possibility of running apps in full screen - i mean what's the point ?
& PLEASE, without wanting to be insulting to no one,  spare me the ''change the resolution'' or the ''zoom in'' half-a***d solutions i already read about elsewhere & tried - that IS NOT the reason why i paid nearly 2000€ for this machine, specially since according to what i read this font size change is EASILY doable on your run of the mill 500€ PC running clunky old Windows, apparently in any of it's incarnations...........
granted my eyesight is past it's prime but i do wear the correct prescription glasses & at the end of the day should a 2000€ computer put further strain on it ? or actually work with the user ( give him the necessary options.. ) to make his computing experience as pleasant as it's possible ? or is this because ALL 27'' iMac users have 20/20 eyesight ? i wonder....
any suggestions would be VERY welcome since this REALLY detracts from the pleasure that using this computer IS & i strongly suggest everyone having this issue with their high res 27'' iMacs or high-res displays to write to Apple about it, asking for a solution to this very real problem :
  http://www.apple.com/feedback/
meanwhile if anyone has a REAL solution to this i will be eternally grateful, many thanks

That's why I prefer the earlier 24" model, nearly the same resolution as the new 21.5" but on a larger screen.
There's always tension between two camps, those that want bigger screens to get more on and appear sharper by having higher native resolutions, and those that want bigger screens with a lower native resolution so things appear bigger.
Traditionally the former have won.

  • Typewriter Tool font is ridiculously small

I edit docs a lot with the typewriter tool. Never had a problem. Now  I dont know but all of a sudden why but the font size is like a 1 even if I set it to the max size. It's almost imperceptable the stuff I type cause its so small. How can I fix this?

Not possible. You'll need to go to your operating system and choose a screen resolution that displays the screen with larger pixels.
Or get a new prescription for your glasses (seriously!)

  • Intel iMac font rendition: Fuzzy

I've just got a new iMac (20" screen) and I'm having trouble fixing the fuzzy appearance of all text fonts...
I've played around with the options under:
"System Preferences / Appearance / Font smoothing style"
to try and remove the apalling blurring of characters, but even on the CRT setting, text smoothing takes place and renders the output very "smoothed" or more accurately "blurred".
I've changed the "Turn off text smoothing for text sizes less than..." value as well, but this just makes those smaller fonts look extermely "jagged", which is the other extreme!
The blurry characters appear in every font, in every application, and only resolve to sharp (but jaggy) characters when less than 10 point (in my case).
So much for Apple's famous graphics abilities!
    Anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Rob.

Which diplay profile are you using?
I calibrated my display profile (iMac) with Target
Gamma of 2.2 (PC standard) and fonts look good.
OK - I've now done this too, however the font smoothing still makes characters appear too fuzzy ...
eg look closely at the upper case letter 'i': 'I'
On my screen the top horizontal bar of the 'I' appears quite blurred - the bar is about two pixels thick, and the lower pixels are grey, not black. This causes the character to appear blurred.
This happens on all smoothed characters.
I've now set the non-smoothing to all font sizes below 12 point, however I'd prefer to remove smoothing from ALL font sizes!

  • 27" iMac: font in iTunes is illegible

On my brand new 27" iMac running Mavericks, the font in iTunes store used for song lists etc is displaying very very thin and is almost illegible. see the smaller text It is fine on my other computer with a smaller screen. It may be that the font isn't loaded and is being substituted but that seems unlikely. What is the font beingshould be and does anyone have an idea what I can do to make the font display properly?  Thank you.

Solved it.  I just needed to clear the font cache in my font manager.  Done.

  • Can TM use a drive smaller than iMac HD?

I have a G5 iMac with a 160GB internal HD. About half of the internal HD is used.
I have a WD MyBook 250GB external drive connected via Firewire. The MyBook is formated with two partitions. One is a 160GB partition that a use to clone my internal HD using CCC. The other is a 90GB partition that I want to use for Time Machine. I intend to continue to use CCC and clone my internal HD going forward so I always have a bootable drive.
I haven't gotten my Leopard upgrade yet so this my be an obvious answer but can I exclude the system files, etc. from the TM back-up since I will continue to have the clone and just back up my data (documents, photios, music, etc.) so I can use TM with the remaining smaller partiton on the MyBook?
I also note in another post that the Entourage DB file is always backed-up in full each hour so that will use a lot of the MyBook space. Can TM be set up to back up that file only one per day?
    Thanks,
    David

    Yes, you can.

Not that I can see. There doesn't appear to be that level of granularity in TM; it's include/exclude only and the scheduling of the backups is all built in.

  • Font Size problem : Swing font looks smaller than pdf font

    Hi
I'm facing a problem with font size in my swing application. I'm showing some text with a certain predefined font size. Using the same font size and type on same m/c, I 'm generating some pdf text.
The problem is that the text in swing looks smaller than the same text in pdf. Is there a way to achieve
    consistency in font sizes.

  • MAJOR iMAC FONT BOOK BUG PROBLEM

    Hi there,
Not sure if anyone can help me out there but it would be great to get some suggestions.
I'm having a major fontbook problem on my imac as of yesterday. I'm a graphic designer and for me this is an aboslute nightmare - a horror story. I lost all of my downloaded fonts yesterday (i opened font book because it didn't upload a new font that i had downloaded and wanted to see what was going on) and got the shock of my life. I am now having major issues with this software. On top of losing all of my downloaded fonts, I can't upload any new fonts anymore and for some reason it now has alot of chinese/hebru fonts loaded into it which is baffling.
I've been searching all over google for a way to resolve the problem and have no idea what to do now, nothing is working
    Please help!!

By default Fontbook has a large number of chinese, hebrew and other language fonts in it so that OS X can support 33 system localizations and several dozen keyboard input languages without adding any.

  • Small application name font in all apps

Something has gone wrong with my system. In every application, including the Finder, the application menu item (the menu that shows About this application, etc.) appears in a tiny font, even though all the other menus appear normally. Does anyone have an idea how I can fix this?
    Thanks!

Did you ever find a solution to this? I have the problem of garbled text in Entourage, and have tried everything to get rid of it but to no avail...any ideas?

You can look at an extension like this to block images.

You can also look at Adblock Plus.

  • Small, but readable font suggestion?

I'm working on a small food product label that has a lot of small copy—primarily directions for use, ingredients, and various other legalese. I'm currently using Arial Opentype regular and bold in a 5.75 point size with auto leading (6.9 pt), but I'd like to go larger. Does anyone have a recommendation on a good font to use for this application? Thanks!

I set a lot of type in that size range and rely heavily on all the various strains of Helvetica. It doesn't look vastly different than Arial, of course, but the availability of a full family of weights, plus the condensed and extended sets make it so much more flexible for copyfitting purposes. Other options to explore might be Franklin and Futura. I wouldn't dare go to a serif. Don't forget to take full advantage of InDesign's Justification settings.

  • Pictures ridiculous small...

    Hello,
I am new in the mac world and this is my first post. Sorry about all questions and details that might appear "stupid".
I am using iPhoto 6. Pictures size: 1600x1200
I downloaded pictures of my holiday in Mexico from my digital camera directly to iPhoto (import).
To be safe I used the Finder to do a copy of my Mexican pictures from the digital camera to a separate folder called "ALL" (outside the iPhoto Library).
The pictures were all fine (1600x1200). I watched them. Everything was ok.
Later, I wanted to import all my pictures that were still in my separate folder "ALL" (the new ones from Mexico and the old ones).
Prior to this, I deleted my iPhoto Library. I did not do any backup of the iPhoto Library as I felt safe since my pictures were all in my separate folder "ALL" (including the Mexican pictures).
Unfortunately, when I re-imported all my pictures from "ALL" to the iPhoto Library, the new Mexican pictures were all small (360x270)!!!
I double-checked my "ALL" folder and I realized that they were small there as well (360x270).
Are the original pictures (1600x1200) definitely lost or do I have chance not too have lost the beautiful holiday souvenir?
    Thanks for your precious help.

I'm guessing that when you did this: To be safe I used the Finder to do a copy of my Mexican pictures from the digital camera to a separate folder called "ALL" (outside the iPhoto Library). you copied the pictures from the Folder called 'Data'.
This is the folder where iPhoto stores the thumbnails it uses to display in the iPhoto Window. What you should have copied were the photos in the Originals folder. Or you could simply have selected them all and gone File -> Export and exported full size copies of the pics to a Folder on the desktop or whereever.
Yes, if you deleted the iPhoto Library Folder then your photos are gone, unless you can recover them with a file recovery tool like File Salvage

  • Smaller system window fonts

I just purchased a 60" monitor for my mac. I have set the resolution in the System Prefs to the smallest image. I have also reduced the type on the finder but my system windows font areas are still too large. Can I reduce the fonts of the system windows, i.e. mail, left area with inbox, junk, etc?

Yes, I have done that but it only effects the messages area of the window. Is there any way to change the sizes in the areas of the window that contain the inbox, junk, "on my mac", etc? Thanks!

  • Ridiculous fan noise - iMac 21" 2011

    Hey folks,
I have a brand new 2011 iMac (Core i7/1TB/4GB) 21" which i got at the start of July. The fan is making a really weird noise - I've never heard anything like it before. It sounds like there is a cricket stuck inside or something - its really loud and tends to get louder or quieter all of its own accord.
I'm pretty sure it needs a new fan but I'm in Belgium and they don't have official Apple stores here. There is a reseller close to me - can they do these repairs?
I recorded the fan noise just in case anyone has heard anything like this before. I know I have heard a few laptops make a noise like this right before the fan dies but I cannot afford to lose my iMac right now.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9498863/Memo.m4a is a link to the recording.
    Thanks folks,
    SJ

So I downloaded smcFanControl and ramped up each of the fams seperately. Turns out it was the HDD fan the was casuing the noise. I fired it up to 6400RPM and the noise stopped instantly. However after some more testing anything below about 5000RPM (which is annoyingly loud) yeilds the high pitched noise.
I have no idea what to do about this now...

  • E65 small message alert font

I recently purchased a nokia e65 phone. Ive noticed the message alert box is so small you dont really know that youve received a message. somehow out of luck while fidding around with it a larger box appeared at the bottom of the screen. unfortunately i somehow managed to lose this setting and it has again gone back to the very small writing in the line above the "no cal entried for today" line, for a new message received. can anyone help me who may have encountered this same problem please. ive gone through the whole manual and there is no help in relation to this. its driving me crazy, given Im so used to it on my previous phone.
    thanks

The last name first name display for contact in the SMS inbox is completely retarded. If you enter a contact into your contact list with their entire name in the 'first name' field, then the SMS inbox will display a message from that person with first name last name. That's good.
But if you put the contact's first name in the first name field, and their surname in the last name field, the inbox will display them in last name first name order. That's just dumb. And btw this is all with the contact list set to show first name last name.
How can there be no setting to change this? So annoying.

  • I am having trouble with my resolution, my screen is to small and my fonts are to big

I have an Dell E172 FP (OLD) but I can use it very well. Today I put in a CD Of games and after that my desk top dose not want to take the normal setting I had. Can u help? I can't even use Facebook because it sends a message that its too small.

Did you check the screen settings in the Windows Control Panel?
    *Control Panel > Display
If it only happens in Firefox then check that you do not run Firefox in compatibility mode or with a reduced screen resolution.
You can open the Properties of the Firefox desktop shortcut via the right-click context menu and check the "Compatibility" tab.
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.
