Right-click, drop-down menus in Firefox 15 cause entire Mac OS 10.7.4 system to hang, forcing manual reboot.

I bought a new MacBook Pro.
I am running Mac OS 10.7.4 with Firefox 15. Every time I right click or try to use a drop-down menu in Firefox, it causes the entire system to hang, forcing a manual reboot.
No crash reports are available as the Firefox does not actually crash.
I have tried
1.) Starting Firefox in safe mode
2.) Disabling all the add-ons
3.) Resetting Firefox
4.) Removing and re-installing Firefox
5.) Disabling hardware acceleration
The problem still occurs.
This is critical a critical issue as I have been using Firefox's Zotero plugin to write my PhD dissertation which is about 50% complete and now I cannot use Firefox or the Zotero plugin and have about 800 references I do not want to have to manually re-enter!! Also it is preventing me from continuing work on the dissertation as I am unable to insert references, and I have submit this thing by March!!!!

Ok, further developments. Still can't get Firefox to work; it makes Lion hang and I have to force a reboot. I tried using terminal to open FF's profile manager, delete my old profile and make a new one. Same problem.
I tried making a new user account in Mac OS, and doing another fresh install of Firefox. It worked! I was able to use drop down menus and right click without crashing the system!
However, as soon as I installed the Zotero plugin... the same issue started occurring again.
Dear programmers, please help me. It will literally take me weeks of work to re-do all of my citations using a different software or manually. There must be a way to fix this problem!

  • Downloaded brushes not showing on right click drop-down list

I have recently reinstalled Photoshop cs5.1 and ran into a problem. My installed brushes are not showing up on my right click drop-down list. I took the old brushes and copied the folder to the new location. When I go to use these brushes there used to be a big drop down list when I right click anywhere on the canvas. It now only shows the basic brushes, but here is the thing though I can load and see them through the preset manager but they are not on my drop-down list like they were before I reinstalled.
I have noticed something odd as well this may help in the solution I have noticed that some files from Photoshop are saved on to my second hard drive, but I do not know if this is the cause.
The reason I reinstalled is my GPU acceleration wasn't working and had to reinstall to fix this. If any other information is needed I would be glad to share. This is just cutting into my workflow time since I have to load every single brush singlely and if I load them all I have to search through every single brush to find what I need.
    Thank you!

I found a solution to my problem it may help others! I run Windows 7 64-bit this has two seperate folders for applications when installed. I did a windows search for one of the names of the available brushes on my right click list. The search showed me where the brushes were at. (Example: I searched in windows: DP Brushes) Aparently photoshop normally installs as a "32-bit" program in this location, C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe PhotoShop CS5.1\Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 (64 Bit)\Presets\Brushes it is here that I copied my new brushes to and it showed up again. Hope this helps anyone who was in my situation!

  • Combine supported files in acrobat missing in acrobat x pro when I right click drop down menu

combine supported files in acrobat missing in adobe x pro when I right click drop down menu also Convert to Adobe PDF is missing too.  The open with & share with options are gone too when I right click files.  My computer crashed & I had to have the motherboard replaced.  The tech store put some of my programs back on my compter but not sure how or if they did stuff correctly.  Need help fixing my problem becasue I use this all the time.  Thanks

I'm having the same issue. I got a new PC, insalled Acrobat X pro and when I right click on an Office file, I could not combine or convert Office files to PDF. I upgraded to Acrobat XI and still no fix. I triled to convert or combine office files to PDF from within Acrobat and I get an error message saying "Acrobat does not support the conversion of one or more of your files to PDF. Please remove these files or go to Settings and choose the PDF Portfolio option".
I've tried to convert or combine Office 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013 files and none work. The weird thing is that the option shows up for Excel .csv files. Even more werid is that I have the PDF tabs showing in the Office applications.
I contacted Adobe support via chat and they were unable to help. I was directed here, so any help would be great.
    Thanks.

  • Problem with drop down menus in firefox 4

when I scroll over a drop down menu, for example when I right click and put the cursor over one of the options it goes black. If I scroll over one of the menu bar drop down menus as I move over one of the options it stays highlighted in gray. I am running firefox 4 and have already tried turning on the menu bar and turning off hardware acceleration

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Menu bar items don't work, right click drop down menu gone

when i right click, nothing happens, also although the menu bar is there, but there is no drop-down menu for any items (file edit etc). i've checked this on my other browsers, i have opera, seamonkey and google chrome.
all these things work except for menu bar in google chrome since it doesn't have one by default.

I restarted firefox 4 with Add-Ons Disabled. Go to Help and use the Down Arrow key to select the Restart with Add-Ons Disabled option.
A startup box with options will show up. Do NOT select any of the options unless you want to disable the item permanently. It started in SAFE MODE and then there were no problems at all with the Menus. I simply Customized some of the menu bars and then restarted. Now all the Add-Ons are back, the menu bars are where I had them before AND the Drop-down Menus are WORKING!!!

  • Is there an add-on to put `close this tab' on the right click drop down?

While I know `close this tab' appears in the dropdown when you click ON the tab (which is sort of ridiculous when you could just click on the tab's `X'), but the same `close this tab' doesn't appear on the dropdown when you right click somewhere in the middle of the window
My question is this : Is there an add-on which puts the phrase where it's really needed - namely when you right click somewhere IN the window, so you don't have to maneuver the mouse to the tab itself or do the keyboard close?

    Every time Firefox opened

    Hello Frebe.
There is indeed. Try [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/710/ Menu Editor]. Using it has many advantages, of course, since you can change the place of pretty much everything, and hide menu items and whole menus if you want, but what you'll want to do is to move the "Close this tab" from the one menu to another.
If you need help using the extension (it's not really THAT intuitive), I'll help.

Hi, I have encountered a strange problem in that, on the internet if I click a drop down menu the rainbow spinning wheel comes up and the computer just crashes!! It randomly started happening and now it does it all the time online if I click a drop down. My brother who is a Mac whizz tried repairing the hard drive, clearing out safari, doing some kind of sudo script and none of it worked. I'm really getting tetchy with this. Can anyone help me? Thankyou x

As a temporary fix I've downloaded firefox and everything is fine. Should I just delete safari and download it again?

  • Adding to the "Right Click" Drop Down Menu

    All,
Being a PC guy for 20 plus years I have a lot of tools that I was use to using in the PC world that I am having a hard time living without in the MAC world. I have turned to the Macbook Pro for me (better product than a PC laptop will ever be) and several iMac's for my wife and kids, so we are not headed back to PC land ever again for our personal systems. I want to know though, if I can get some of my "easy tools" in place on the MAC. They may be there, and I just don't know how to bring them to life.
1 - When I right mouse click on a document (word, excel, Powerpoint, PDF, etc.) I have the option to "Move to the Trash" - can I get an option here to "Move to a Folder"?? This I really miss and would like to have as a function.
2 - Can I customize the "Services" Menu as well?
Look forward to the help !

Snow leopard makes it easy to customize right-click menu by creating services using automator. you can easily create one that will do what you want but a service like this may exist already. try searching the web for it first
2 - Can I customize the "Services" Menu as well?
see above. also check system preferences->keyboard->keyboard shortcuts->services. you can activate/deactivate existing services tehre and make keyboard shortcuts to them.
Look forward to the help !

  • All drop down menus opens and hides emmideately on ubuntu 14 with touch screen display

    Hi!
On ubuntu 14 with ViewSonic TD2340 touch monitor ("Advanced Silicon S.A CoolTouch(TM) System" touch panel) all drop down menus in firefox (in other system applications drop down menus works fine) opens and hides emmideately (I can't select any element in it).
I can't use special system function "Click on Focus", because it is just like double click - drop down menus shows with delay, but it is not real to work in ubuntu - I always have 2 clicks instead 1.

I ran Advanced System Care3 disk optimizer program on my computer and now the drop down menus in Firefox open too fast. Mostly in the Bookmarks menu with nested folders. I went into the registry and changed all the "MenuShowDelay" data values back to 400(which were changed to 200 by the program. All the other windows programs drop down menus went back to the original speeds and are fine. Firefox did not change back to it's original delay speed. Where is the registry entry or configuration file for Firefox? How can I slow the menu down?

  • I bought pages on the app store and have math type installed. However I am do not have the option to "Insert Mathtype Equations" either with right click or the drop down menus at the top of the screen.

I bought pages on the app store and have math type installed. However I am do not have the option to "Insert > Mathtype Equations" either with right click or the drop down menus at the top of the screen. I also have OS Lion installed if this makes any difference. Please help!

I assume but I can't check that MathType rely on the standard iWork applications location which isn't the one used by the mac App Store.
Create a subfolder named iWork '09 in the Applications folder.
Select the iwork applications which you own then drag them into the iWork '09 folder.
You will be asked to type your password. Don't worry, it's normal.
It's required because the System must store the infos describing the new location so that, if a new revision is delivered, mac App Store will be able to find the apps where they are.
When this will be done, try to re-install MathType.
I guess that this time it will behave flawlessly.

  • I am having some serious issues with firefox, i can't print anything because it is stuck on fax and I can't use any of the drop down menus on any site

I am having some serious issues with firefox to the point of choosing another search engine. I can't print anything because it is stuck on fax and won't let me change it to my printer when i do try to select my printer it jumps right back to fax. The drop down menus do not work on any of the sites I go to. For example when purchasing clothes and you have to choose a size from a drop down menu I can't do it when I click on the drop down menu it doesn't work at all. I don't have a virus I ran my virus protector and no viruses are present. I don't have any suspicious issues going on with my computer so there has to be something in Firefox that is causing my issues. I tried internet explorer and I don't have any issues there. I hope you can help me because I love Firefox and would really like to continue to use it.

Lots of issues there, main one getting fcpx going again, try deleting the preferences using the utility deveoped by these guys.
