Right Click Open file with

When i right click on an mp3 file to open it using another application than the default itunes, I am presented with a list containing the applications I installed but weird enough is that in the list their is also Quicktime and iTunes, what is weird is not their presence but that each of them is listed twice. It is like Quicktime then under it Quicktime then under it in the menu iTunes then under it iTunes again. Can anyone tell me how can i remove the duplication from the menu. Both of them lead to the same version, I mean both Quicktime links lead to the same Quicktime app & not that each one is for a separate version.

I believe that applications are listed twice as Universal binaries are able to open the file in two way…
1) As an Intel native application
2) As a PowerPC application under Rosetta
As it turns out, it doesn't matter which of the two you list as the application will always open as an Intel binary unless you force it to open under Rosetta (there's an option in the Get Info wwindoe for the application).
While it can be a bit strange it is in fact correct. The list should however reflect this in some way whether it only lists an application once else signifies the PPC versions.

  • Windows Explorer Right Click - Open file in Air App

I have an AIR App that I made to run on my desktop.  It is used for editing specifc XML files.  I want to know if its possible to setup so that I can right click on an XML file while browsing Windows Explorer and choose an option to "Open in (my AIR App)" ... that would lauch my AIR app and also open the xml.
Right now, I have to launch my AIR app, click to open a file, and then browse for the file and select it.

ok so after all of this time, i stumbled upon something that should solve my problem.  i created a new AIR file in flash and put a text field on the stage with the name "my_txt" then I just added this bit of script (below) .... then once I installed the air app, i opened a file into the app and the path to the file was displayed in the text box thats on the stage.  now i just have to use this path to actually open the file.
    import flash.events.InvokeEvent;
    NativeApplication.nativeApplication.addEventListener(InvokeEvent.INVOKE, invoked);
    function invoked(evt:InvokeEvent):void{
              my_txt.text = String(evt.arguments[0]);

I often have to open files .cue with Text Edit. Right Click, Open with, Others, Text Edit. Is it possible to put Text Edit in the menu avoiding to use "others"?

The easiest way is to keep Textedit in the Dock and drag the .cue file(s) to the Dock icon.
You can also create an Automator Service:
    Open Automator
    Select: Service
Select Service receives selected [files or folders] in [Finder]
    and:
Then select one or more .cue file, right click (or Control-click) on the selection to display the contextual menu. Scroll to the bottom of the contextual menu and select Services -> (what you named the Service).

  • Windows Server 2008 R2: Different file associations when double-clicking vs. right-click - open

I have a basic .xml file on my Windows 2008 R2 desktop. I have set the file association for .xml files to Adobe FrameMaker 12. When I double-click the .xml file, it opens with FrameMaker. When I right-click -> open the .xml file, it opens with Notepad.
I need the .xml file to always open with FrameMaker, even when I use right-click -> open. How can I set this up for all users on a Windows 2008 R2 server?
    Thank you!
    -Nicole

    Hi Nicole,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
When you double-click on a file in Windows explorer, the Windows shell looks up the extension of the file in the registry to see if the extension is registered. If the extension is not registered, Windows displays the Open With dialog box, allowing the
user to choose an application to associate with the file type. If the extension is registered, Windows calls the ShellExecute() function with a command of "open." It also passes the name of the file that was double-clicked as a command line parameter.
Associations go further than simply opening a file, though. If you right-click on a text file (.TXT) in Explorer you will see two items at the top of the context menu. The first is named Open. Choosing this menu item is the same as double-clicking the
file in Explorer. When you choose Open, NOTEPAD.EXE will be started with the selected file loaded (assuming a default Windows installation). The second menu item is called Print. Clicking this menu item will cause the file to be printed without displaying
    Notepad at all.
There is some registry setting for the application association to take place, you can edit them under following path.
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Test App File
    (Quoted from below article)

    Hope it helps!

  • Right click Open With sometimes not working (Photoshop Elements 9, Windows Vista)

We recently upgraded from Photoshop Elements 7 to Photoshop Elements 9. We are running Windows Vista.
Last night, my wife was right clicking on JPEG images in her My Pictures subfolders and choosing "Open With" to open the files with Photoshop Elements. In some cases, this worked. In other cases she would right click the file, Adobe Photoshop Elements would start, but the picture itself would not display.
I tested one of these pictures and was able to open it with other applications, and was able to open it by choosing "Open" from Photoshop Elements' file menu.
Has anyone run into this before? Why are some pictures not opening when you right-click and use "Open With"?

    Hi,
you can make PSE9 default program for opening any image on you vista machine.
    Then it souhld work fine.
    cheers,
    Sam

  • Mac Spotlight Results: Right Click/Open With/Reveal in Finder?

    Hi,
As many others, I am a heavy Spotlight user/searcher. I tried quite a bit around, but I seem not to be able to "right click" open with on the Spotlight search results (Spotlight used from the menubar). I can open search results, but that is most of the time not what I wish to do. More commonly, I would like to "Reveal in Finder" or "Open with" (i.e., opening a PDF in Photoshop or Acrobat, not Preview, depends on what needs to be done with it...).
How can I get "right click" on search results enabled? Is there any way to enabled that? If not, how is your workflow to a) find files + b) do something else with them then open with default app?
    Thank you for your thoughts!
(p.s. I know that I have the right click option if searching from a Finder window rather than then searching from the menubar, and that I can get the menubar Spotlight open as a Finder Spotlight search result set... however, the results in the Finder menubar are different, and much better, then the what is presented in Finder... so it would be much better to have the right click there)

    Thank you, that really helps!
I tried Command + double click and that is exactly what I needed... you can "open with" from Finder then in a second step (one step more then would be logically required, I do hope Apple simply enables right clicks in search results in the next release)

  • My trackpad can't open file with double click

i don't know what's going on, but my trackpad can't open file with double click. i have to open it with right click, open or open with. i've tried to fix it in the system preferences, it didn't work out well.

William - you are wonderful!  I had looked at that - they were set to 'internal' which seemed like RH...but selecting the 'design view' and then reselecting 'use default editor' instead of 'auto-select editor' did it.  THANK YOU!!!!!

  • Stacks ( No RIGHT-CLICK, Open with )?

While I do like STACKS for my DOWNLOADS, I have not been able to figure out how to ( Right-Click, Open with ) on files it displays. It there a key sequence I am missing or is the functionality just not there.
Opening the folder is a extra step just to ( Open with -> ) that is unnecessary.
    -Bruce-

The functionality just not there. It can't be so hard to Open in Finder. If there are a lot of files you have to open with the same app but aren't saved as so (for example Word files to open with Pages) you can make all files with the same ending open with a specific app. Right click on the file, go to Get Info and under the Open With tab you can select an app to open with. Click Change All to change all.

  • Lost start menu icons and not listed in right click open with option +more.

Weird. I need help. Quicktime 7.3.0.70 only--Start menu lost it's icons in the quicktime folder. When right clicking video files, the "open with" option no longer displays quicktime as a program. And lastly, open an avi file or even mpg and the program stops responding without even getting to play the file. I've uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times but can't seem to fix these issues. Can anyone help? Thanks. This just seemed to happen out of the blue.

I also have lost the icons for Quicktime in my start menu under Windows XP. The icons actually work when you do click them but the icons are not loaded. Everything functions fine and it's the newest version of Quicktime installed. I also have the newest version of iTunes installed. I ended up manually adding my own icons on the start menu as I've uninstalled and reinstalled Quicktime several times to no avail and even attempted to flush the windows icon cache. No go. This just started happening recently.
It's not happening on my WinXP Pro laptop however, although I've yet to upgrade to the latest version of iTunes+Quicktime.
*Right-Click Open With Menu still functions properly and the icon image is appearing correctly in that menu.

  • Can windows 7 'open with' right click open more than 1 picture at a time?

A few times I have been given a usb drive or SD card & asked to enhance a few pictures for someone.  I usually just select one picture & then right click open wirh & select PSE.  The problem with doing this is that I can only send one picture at a time to PSE.  Is it possible to get the open with command to have more than 1 picture open?  I'm using windows 7 pro.

    Hi,
You could try using the "Send To" option but you first have to create a shortcut.
Use the windows explorer to navigate to
    C:\Users\"Your User Name"\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo
In that folder create a new shortcut to the PSE editor.
Then you use it by selecting the images you want to process, right click and select Send To - the editor should appear in the list.
    Hope that helps

  • Opening files with double click

Hi, I'm using photoshop CS 6 and Yosemite 10.10.2 and wondering why photoshop is no more able to open files with a single double click. It opens the program but not the file. Second double click is necessary. Really annoying.
It is also irritating that ADOBE asks me everytime before it opens ps if I want to take part in a survey. I took part several times to get rid of it, but the asking continued ...This is harassing – does it stop when I buy the cloud???
    Anyone else experiencing this?
    regards from Munich

This was getting so frustrating I turned off FileVault and the problem went away. That's too bad, but there it is.

  • Opening files with double-click and FileVault

I'm experiencing an issue with 10.7.2 and something is telling me it's related to FileVault. When opening a .txt or .numbers file the associated application (TextEdit or Numbers) will open and display the document. But the pointer turns to the spinning disk and the application won't accept any clicks or keyboard shortcuts. If I alt+tab away from the application I cannot alt+tab or click the Dock icon to return to the application. After a few moments I have to Force Quit the application from the dock. I can also use kill-9 <PID> in Terminal to stop the process.
This *never* happened before 10.7.2. TextEdit will, about 20% of the time, recover after 1.5 - 2.0 minutes of me just leaving it alone.
This happens on *every* file I double-click for these applications. If I open the file from within the application (File | Open) it's fine, so I don't think this is a corrupt file problem.
I open most applications by selecting the desired document from Spotlight (command+space <filename>) - this has the same effect as double-clicking the file with the mouse.
Can this be related to FileVault? I'm open to coincidences, but because I've used 10.7 the same way (double-click or, more often, Spotlight) when opening files and haven't seen this until I started using FileVault I'm leaning towards that.
I've not made any modifications to the OS - there are no auto-load programs and I've installed ony about five applications that didn't ship with OS X 10.7.
    Anyone else seen this issue?

  • Sublime Text 2 won't open files with double click

Hi, this is my first time asking for something.
Well, i've been using Scribes, but sometimes i need tabs in my text editor, so i installed Sublime Text 2.
The problem is that i can't open files with double click, i need to use "subl filename" and that it's not funny :S
If i double click a file ST2 opens, but with a tab named "file" and without content.
Is there a fix for that?
My Arch installation (if is neccesary):
    Arch x86_64
    Openbox (stand-alone)
    PCManFM
P.D: sorry for my english D:

the reason seems to be a broken desktop file.  `/usr/share/applications/sublime-text.desktop` says `Exec=subl %U`, but it should be `%f`. Also the Aur package does not provide a `subl` symlink so you should create one.
