Right-clicking with the trackpad button?

Hi,
Is there a way to enable the trackpad button on my Macbook to right-click? If there is, would someone please post how to do it. Thanks in advance. I appreciate it.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
There are a couple of different ways. If you hold down on the "control" key while you click, you will get the contextual menus. Also, in the Mouse & Keyboard System Preferences, under the "Trackpad" tab, you should be able to enable the two-finger clicking to get the contextual menu (if it's not already enabled). In other words, if you're holding down on the keypad with two fingers while you click, you'll get the right-click menu.

  • With version 3.6.3 I can no longer do a right click with the mouse and check the properties of a live url link on web pages

Windows XP Pro, SP3. Firefox 3.6.3. Ever since updating to this version a few weeks ago I can no longer do a right click of the mouse and check the properties of an active url link on webpages. I've always had the option before. I want this feature back!!!!

In Firefox 3.6 Properties has been removed from the right click context menu.
You can use ''View Image Info'' or ''View Page Info'' in the right click context menu to see the (image) properties.
You can use the above mentioned extension (Element Properties 6) to get that context menu item back.

  • How do I "Right Click" on the Trackpad?

I know this is a "newbie" question but what is the motion on the trackpad for a "right click". Please bear with me, this is my first Mac laptop. Thanks!

    Hi,
two options: hold CNTRL while doing a click.
The preferred one is to use a two-finger tap for right-click. You have to enable that feature via System preferences -> Mouse/Trackpad. This is where you also see all the small movies about multi-touch options for the trackpad.

  • My left and right click on the trackpad don't work.

From reading a number of the posts here, it would seem that trackpads not working is an issue that Apple may need to look into. I have personally resorted to using a mouse and the trackpad as a touchpad. For all the finger gestures, my trackpad works fine, but it doesn't respond at all to the left or right click options. It clicks audibly, but neither responds. There were some posts about playing around with a PRAM (whatever that may be), but surely there must be a more definitive solution. Does anyone know if this is an issue that is being addressed by Apple or does anyone know of a permanent solution? I don't mind continue to use the external mouse, but it seems a shame that the trackpad malfunctions and there is no apparent solution; that's unlike an Apple product. Your input would be appreciated.

    This fixed it :
    "Solution:
With the laptop open, turn it on to it's side. Repeatedly click the trackpad with a firm, but not excessive amount of force. Put the laptop on the other side and repeat.
I can't explain why this works. Perhaps some amount of debris or dust has built up under there ? I went from not being able to click-drag without an excessive amount of pressure, back to a normal amount of pressure after doing this."

  • Does the ibook have a right click on the trackpad??

I have just purchased football manager and it requires the use of the right mouse button but the ibook does not have one it is just a block with one click? Does any1 have any suggestions?

Click and hold brings up contextual menus in certain cases, for instance, for icons on the dock, but for many applications, including games, CTRL-click is the equivalent. Also, you can just plug in a two-button USB mouse.

  • I can't right click with the new lion update. how can I fix it?

Before the Lion update I was able to right click and now I cant. It doesnt even give me the visual example when you get into the track pad set up page. just the 1 finger and the 3 finger opts. AND everytime i got to set up the two finger tap for right click, once i get out o that pane it doesnt work and whe i go back to the set up pane it is unclicked. Help!

Create a new user and log in as that user, and see if Safari works over there.  If it does, then it's probably something in your local login environment related to Safari.  If the other user also has trouble with Safari, then there's a more general problem with Safari.
Also check the console (Applications > Utilities > Console.app) when Safari tips over, and see if there's anything relevant logged there.

  • FINDER RELANUCH every 3 clicks with the second button of the mouse.

And another thing is that when i run Quark on my old machine it runs perfect but when i try it on my new Macbook pro it just closes for it self.
I really need to work! and it is very dificult for my like this. CAN YOU HELP PLEASE???
I was thinking of reinstalling the OS but i don't want to loose any of my stuff like mail, or the programs that came with the macbook like garage band etc,..
i would be very thank full, i am from Argentina, south america.

Hi nicolastarallo, it sounds like a Contextual Menu item.
Navigate to ~(yourHome)/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items.
Log out and back in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
As for Quark, you may need to call them to get the second license going.

  • The pull down menu or icon for printing does not respond. The only way I can print a web page is by right clicking with the mouse and selecting print? Your comments please

When I try to print a web page by selecting the print icon or by the pull down menu -print, nothing happens. It does not respond. I have to right mouse click and then select print, which then works. Why is this happening

Try using the Add Bookmark Here ² extension. You can drag the Add Bookmark window to the size you want to see. <br />

  • Right Click with trackpad

Recently all Macbook and Macbook Pro users got the ability to do right clicking with the trackpad. This happened with the new OSX update.
My Powerbook is still like new and I am not ready to upgrade as yet but I would like this right clicking feature. I checked out iScroll but my 2005 Powerbook is no supported.
Does anyone have any know of any software that would help me to do this..Thanks..

Yes, SideTrack enables you to assign a right-click to the trackpad, a corner of the trackpad or to the trackpad button, and all using only one finger.

  • Click and Drag not working with the trackpad....

Well, this is an unexpected problem.
Just this morning, it seems my computer is refusing to let me click and drag with the trackpad button. I can click and hold, but when I move my cursor, say in a menu, nothing is highlighted. For sliders for volume, clicking and dragging does nothing. I can't highlight text. It's getting very annoying. It won't work when I tell just the trackpad to click and drag as well (not using the button).
    My hands have been a little "waxy" since I've been sick, but the mouse works perfectly otherwise, so I don't think that's the problem at all. Any suggestions? Please tell me my 'book isn't goin' bad. >>;;

That seemed to work! After shutting down and taking out the battery, I cleaned my keyboard and computer, too. Seems to work now Thanks!
Wonder why it did it...a glitch, prolly...

  • Right-click with 2 fingers on Windows Vista taskbar and nothing appears

I just updated my Bootcamp to 2.1, I thought it would solve my problem
"Right-click with 2 fingers on Windows Vista taskbar and nothing appears" but I still have this problem, I cannot right-click on my windows vista at all.
though, right-click on the notification area works.
right-click = pressing the trackpad with 2 fingers.

Now I have figured out I have to use 3 fingers instead of 2 fingers.
but in the BootCamp Control Panel there is an option that says
    * Use 2 fingers for right-click

  • I don't seem to be able to right click on the macbookair mousepad; how do i right click?

How do I right click with the MacBook Air using the mousepad?

    Silly rabbit wrote:
    Hold down the shift key
On yours it's the SHIFT key?
Out of the box, most Macs use the "fn" key in concert with the trackpad tap to perform right clicks.
On all three of my Macs, it is the fn key that is used. The shift key does nothing in regard to trackpad clicks, except It does however make all text selected to the right of the cursor.

  • Mouse will only click with the right button...

recently my macbook has decided that i dont need a right mouse button, and the touchpad is not responsive when clicking either. i have some suspicion that the trackpad button might be stuck. im also curious as to whether the usb's might be messed up. has anyone ever had this issue? how should i go about fixing it?

nope, but i noticed since the lion update that the problem only persists if i touch the trackpad before i finish signing into my account...

Sometimes during the "old-fashion" macbooks there is different feelings in the way you control it. Take it to the apple store and I am Pretty sure they can tell you what is going on and if it is "Time for a Upgrade".
