Right-Command Key doesn't work

Well, on my PowerBook G4, there are 2 command-keys (I'm sure that's common).
My right command key doesn't work what-so-ever. I tried using the keyboard viewer and it doesn't turn gray either. Funny thing, but when I press the LEFT one, both cmd keys turn gray.
Well i dont know if its a missing driver or a setting, (maybe even a malfunctioning keyboard?) but if anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Sorry, my bad. Haven't read through it in awhile and thought it affected keyboard too, but looks like just trackpad and other issues described. You may just have a bad keyboard or something lodged under that key.

    Im cs5 but I have had this trouble in cs4.

    causiu,
    It is possible that the issues may be caused by preference corruption or interference from other applications.
    You may try the following (you may have tried/done some of them already) and see whether it helps. Since you had it in CS4 too, the most likely is 5).
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer;
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (irreversible);
    4) Move the folder with Illy closed (reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options, especially Item 7) with the usual suspects;
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

  • Right shift key doesn't work after BIOS update on Satellite A200-28P

    For some reason, after I upgraded my Bios, my right shift key doesnt work and neither does my FOUR and SIX button, hence why i have written in words :(,
    I tried reinstalling windows, hasnt made a difference.
    I tried rolling back the drivers for the keyboard, as well as changing to the US version of the keyboard, nothing has helped.
    Thanks

    okay first problem is, my warranty was due to expire, so i brought an extension, and nothing has happened whatsoever on those regards, secondly, i ran a keyboard test, and i found out that it wasnt only the four six and right shift key which was now no longer working, but also the f2, f10, f11, f12,
    I have used a external keyboard, which works :D but it annoying to use that when the whole point of a laptop is to have the inbuilt keyboard,

  • My delete key doesn't work at all

    Since I got my new Macbook refurb 2 days ago, the delete key has intermittently failed. Right now it seems to be pretty much off.
    Is there a utility I can use to see if it's firing events, and that therefore some piece of software is just swallowing the keypresses, or if the button is actually broken?
    The button has normal action.

    I've had the same problem. Whenever I turn on my MacBook Pro, or when I awaken it from sleep, if the computer is cool (i.e., hasn't been running recently), then both the Delete key and the right bracket key ( "]" ) don't work for a while. This may be 2- 3 minutes, possibly longer at times. During this time, the Keyboard Viewer does not indicate they are being pressed. Once the computer warms up, the problem goes away.
    Note that I have an Apple Bluetooth keyboard, and it works all the time, so I don't think there is a software problem.
    I called Applecare, and the person I spoke with had not heard of this problem. He suggested I reset the power management unit and the PRAM. The former is done by powering the computer off, disconnecting power, removing the battery and holding the power key down for at least 5 seconds. The latter is done by holding command-option-P-R when booting and waiting for the second chime before releasing the keys and letting the computer reboot.
    Neither of these fixed the problem. I think it's a hardware problem, but if the Apple discussion groups are indicative of the frequency of occurence, it doesn't appear to happen very often.
    My next step is to reconnect with AppleCare, who left the trouble ticket open for me. I wanted to post this so you could see that more than one person had the problem.

    If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
    Otherwise*, boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
    When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
    from the menu bar.
    In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
    Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
    Press return. A Reset Password window opens.
    Select your boot volume if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
    You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.
    *Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead the instructions on this page:

  • Left shift key doesn't work on some characters

    In some applications, such as Excel and AOL, my left shift key doesn't work on some letters. Consequently, when I'm typing I get lower case letters when I've typed shift plus the letter to get a cap. Right shift works OK, but I'm not used to using it. It happens on i, t, and p, I've noticed so far. I don't know if it's the keyboard or the application. Word seems to work fine.
    Would welcome any ideas on what is causing this and how to fix it.

    Is it possible that you have inadvertently switched to a different keyboard layout? Open System Preferences, then click on the Language & Text preferences. Within the Language & Text preferences click on the 'Input Sources'. You should see a long list of languages representing the various keyboard layouts that are available. Make sure that only the keyboard language you use is selected. If there are multiple languages selected then de-select the extras.
    If you continue to have problems then check the 'Show input menu in menu bar' checkbox in the lower section of the preference pane. This will place an icon in the upper right menu bar (it looks like a flag representing the language you have chosen for your input device) that provides additional options. I suggest selecing the 'Show Keyboard Viewer' option and then try pressing the keys that you are having problems with to see how they show up on the keyboard viewer graphic. If you've set the correct language for your keyboard and the key sequences still don't match, then you may need to take your keyboard in for service. Better yet, borrow another keyboard to confirm that the keyboard is the issue.

  • Command + f2 doesn't work!

    Hi!
    Sorry for my english... but i try to explain my problem!
    I have an iMac27, two months ago i have bought a Dr. Bott for playing with my ps3. Ok, all works fine!
    Two weeks ago i came back from my holiday, i try to play but "command + f2" doesn't work!
    The problem is that it seems that command doesn't work because my mac doesn't try to seach any external signal... simply it do nothing! If i try "command + f1" or "command + f3", for example... they work!
    Can you help me!? My OS version is 10.6.4!
    Please, help me! Winter is coming and i have to play a lot!!!! :-D

    No, I'm suggesting that you test the ⌘F2 shortcut on something else, like Exposé (⇪). This is just to make sure that your keys aren't busted (or you could also just try using a different keyboard). If ⌘F2 works for Exposé, then go ahead and remove it from the Keyboard Settings to make sure your Dr Bott Video Link can use it again.
    As for checking why you're not able to receive a signal, are you sure you're using 720p from your PS3? Did you try using the HDMI cable on other devices (maybe connect your PS3 to an HDTV) to make sure it's not broken? This may sound obvious, but did you also check to make sure your Dr Bott is powered up (it might be dead; I dunno)?

  • Left command key does not work

    Hi all,
    I have problems with my left command key. I have had my computer for 1 year now - the fan wasn't working so I reset the PRAM, didn't work so sent it to the Apple technicians who replaced the fan. Since then, I am unable to combine the left command key with any of the 3rd keyboard row keys such as "C", "V", "N" or "X". Consequently I cannot copy, paste or get a new window. It occurs with all applications. The right command key works fine. The top and middle keyboard rows work fine with the left command key. Is this a software problem or should I return it to the Apple technician?
    Thanks,
    Vincent.

    Take it back. They either haven't got the keyboard connected in right when they put it back together, or there is problem with the keyboard itself.

    Plugins usually are installed externally to Firefox. However, you can disable them in Firefox so that Firefox does not use them.
    SearchReset is supposed to automate the task of resetting certain preferences, but you still can edit them manually if necessary.
    '''''Address Bar Search'''''
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''keyword''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Right-click '''keyword.URL''' and choose Reset. This should restore Google as the default for address bar search.
    Does that work?
    '''''Search Box'''''
    Usually it works to choose your preferred search engine from the drop-down. To remove an unwanted search engine plugin, usually the Manage Search Engines... choice at the bottom of the drop-down takes care of it.
    Do either of those work?
    There might be another way to hijack that search box; I think some of the other frequent responders probably are more familiar with it than I am.

  • Right Command key shortcut is behaving badly

    This is only happening with the right command key. Press the key and the whole desktop shrinks and reverts to black. At the same time if an app window is open - that window shrinks. This may have started when trying to make Mission Control act like spaces. I want to Command Click right or left arrow to make the desktop change to another open app. Just like spaces used to work. I have gone through all options in Mission Control and Keyboard shortcuts. Nothing corrects my apparant error in assigning shortcuts. I have tried resetting every keyboard setting to default with no luck.Have run out of ideas and airspeed.

    Found it. Amazing how things come together when you click on the Qustions Mark at lower right in System preferences. It is all there in help. I deleted all custom keys, started over. All is well. Love Lion and Mission Control

  • Unable to customize right Command key in system prefs on macbook pro

    Customizing the command key in the "Modifier Keys" menu in the keyboard settings in System Prefs on Mac OS X 10.6.4 only customizes the left command key. The right command key remains immutable, deeply frustrating a constant emacs user, here.
    Sometimes I must use the built-in keyboard, alas.
    I use a programmer dvorak layout that I put together using Ukelele. I don't want to re-map Command in the layout itself, however, because sometimes I use a Kinesis, which I'd then have to re-map every time I switch computers (i.e. constantly, all day).
    Imo, this is a bug. Since the menu permits re-mapping of modifier keys, it should enact it completely.
    Is there a work-around?

    Oops. I was behind on my software updates.
    Problem Solved.
