Right headphone weak

I noticed when listening to music the right headphone is weaker than the left.  I am sure its a problem with the audio jack, because when I played the same song from my phone with the headphones, it sounded normal.  Also I plugged different headphones into the laptop and the right ear was still weaker.  Should I bring the laptop back to the Best Buy I bought it at or what should I do?

It depends...
You can just to check that's nothing major, but before that try to change the balance.
To check the balance open the audio manager, depending on your
laptop you may have Realtek Audio Manager or Conexant or SoundMax,
if you are not sure or can't find it, then open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound.
Depending on your OS different windows may pop-up, choose either Speakers icon or
if there's a headphones icon then choose it, and then click Properties, after that go to the Levels,
and click Balance and just make sure both Left and Right are equal.
If you do find the audio manager then just check the speakers or headphones audio level, here
you may have a bar and L R on each side just make sure its in the middle.
If you can't fix it then you can take it to the store.
Hope it helps.

  • IPod not putting out sound on right headphone

As of yesterday, my iPod is not producing any sound through the right headphone. I've tried my headphones on other devices and they work, and also tried other headphones on my ipod and the right headphone still has no sound.
It seems like a problem with the connection because when I jiggle the headphone jack, I get brief bursts of soun (it seems like if I physically hold the headphone jack towards the back of the ipod, it helps).
Anyone else encounter this or have a suggestion?

  • Ipod video right headphone not working

i think the prong in my ipod video is out of place, if i hold the jack down and on an angle, it works in both ears but if it moves out of its place, the right headphone wont work. is there a way to fix it by myself? can i move the prong back into place? or do i need to send it in for repairs and if i do will they wipe my hard drive?

wow. i just came across the same problem just a couple of days ago. My ipod was working fine in the morning and when I got off of work I got no sound out of the right earphone. I bought new headphones cause this has happened before and it was the headphones, but like you said, when pressure was applied to the jack it was only then that I got sound out of both earphones. Ive had my ipod for almost two years now and it is still in really good condition and I dont really know what could have brought this on. Is this a pretty common thing to happen? I had a 3rd generation before this one and had to send it back after a year or so because the battery died, but I did not have this problem with that one and was actually a lot rougher on it. Sorry for the long post. Thanks for the input.

    Did you try different headphones!?
If it's sounding the same thing on different headphones then you might have changed the Left-Right balance
Have a look at Settings -> General -> Accessibility
    There's a slider for L-R
If it's in the center then the headphone through which you're facing the problem might be damaged, try twisting the headphone wire of the speaker of the headphone (left or right) where you are encountering less volume.
If it's sounding altogether same on all the circumstances, the headphone jack might be damaged. Get your phone to the Apple Store and book an appointment
Try these steps and it will solve your question

  • Volume only working on right headphone (EarPods)

    Hi everybody!
After I plugged for the first time my Iphone 5 Earpods into my Macbook Pro 13', now it seems that only the right headphone is working. I cross-tested my Mac with other headphones, same problem. Audio really low on left headphone, almost inexistent. Also, I tried to connect the earpods to my iphone or other devices and they work like a charme. So I am assuming the problem comes from the Macbook. Is it possible that after I plugged the earpods in, some settings changed? I don't think I broke something, it's brand new...Anyway it's under warranty...so no prob in case. Thanks for answering...Bye!

  • My ipod audio only coming through the right headphone whats wrong?, My ipod audio only coming through the right headphone whats wrong?

Ive tried with mulitple headphones but my audio on my ipod is only coming through the right headphone. Whats wrong with my ipod? WIll I need to purchase another one?

I don't know if this is a common issue: I bought an iphone from someone and notice that only the plug design of the stereo headphone that comes with it fits in its receptacle. I tried others that are generally for the same size but they can't go deep enough in the receptacle thus can't get any audio. One thing I noticed is that this iphone's receptacle is deeper in the device than usual, so any other plugs other than the one provided can't fit. I can't use my external speakers with it!!! I fail to understand this. All all iphones like this or is it a defect particular to mine? After all, my ipod touch doesn't have this issue! If anybody knows, please tell me.

  • Right headphone keeps going bad

can someone please tell me why my right headphone keeps going bad. this happened about 2 weeks after I got my 4th generation 20gb I-pod. and they sent me new headphones but it has done it again also I don't BLAST my music only about 75% loud the only problem I may have is that my warranty is up and I didn't buy the extended one because I ran out of money please HELP!!!!

Well, now I have another problem in this vein. It seems that what worked to restore iTunes before, trashing the faulty iTunes folder and replacing it with the backup copy, no longer works. When I do this, iTunes won't even recognize the new folder - I can't even import the xml file. This is a backup from four days ago when I know iTunes was working just fine.
Is there something new about the way iTunes handles files that I can't recover from a backup this way? Is there something I'm missing when restoring my iTunes library from backup?

  • No sound will come out of the right headphone, but they work on my other devices..is this a common problem for the classic?

Two headphones are now in limbo due to a strange curse my iPod Classic 160Gb seems to hae. Affter a couple of weeks, sound will cease to emit form the right headphone unless i jiggle the plugs cable around. Funny thing is, my headphones work fine on other devices..Is this a common problem?

I tried to update my driver and it works fine now, I appreciate looking through this forum and finding answers for problems that I am having.

  • Macbook headphone output, right channel weaker than left.....

I use my macbook connected to my stereo amplifier using a mini jack to stereo connector. I have started to notice isses though. It seems that after a couple of minets of working fine the volume of the right channel will suddenly reduce for no aparant reason. I have tested my amplifier/speakers/cables and have therefore come to the conclution that the issue is with tha macbook its self. Unpluging the cable from the headphone socket and then pluging it in again seems to resolve the issue for a couple of minets before the right channel once again loses volume...........
    Any ideas?
so far i have tried playing around with the sound settings but they are so few and far between that i can see no resolution other than to return the macbook to apple to be fixed.
    Thanks alot

If you're absolutely certain your cables, wires, speakers and everything else is 100% then yes, return it. You might try blowing a little into the headphone jack in the event you collected a bit of debris that is causing the problem.

  • Sound not coming out for right headphone

If I press the headphone jack backwards, I can get sound coming out of both earpieces. However, if I just let it stand still, I can only hear it coming out of the left side. I tried different headphones, so it's the iPod and not the headphones.
My warranty expired 2 days ago (naturally) and I want to know if there's anyway to manually fix this. Or if it's possible to visit an Apple store to fix it.

    1) Plug your headphones into another source, such as
a stereo. Does the problem still exist? If not, then
it is the iPod itself and not the headphones. If it
does still exist, then it is your headphones.
    2) If under warranty, Apple will ship you a new set
of headphones for no charge as long as you return the
defective part in the envelope provided with the new
    part they send you.
Oh gee, that's useful. So what's the fix if it's not the headphones?
I guess it's off to the apple store for me!
Does anyone else notice that all of us have no sound in right ear? Could it be an intrinsic flaw?

  • Isolating left and right Headphone chann

Here is an excerpt from a recent email that I have sent to Creative tech support. I wanted to go ahead and put it out into the forums in case anyone else was having a similar issue.
-Creative Model Number: SB0350, Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
    -Serial Number: MSB03505500027K
-I purchased the soundcard from Newegg as an OEM card. It was shipped to me in a static bag with the driver installation disk.
-I currently have "Logitec Z-2300 speakers" plugged into my sound cards "Line out " jack.
-I don't know what an external decoder is and so I don't believe that I have one.
I have double checked that my onboard sound is disabled, and it is. I have had it disabled in the bios now even through a couple of windows reformats so I doubt that it's an issue.
In the device manager the sound card appears to be functioning properly and the IRQ is NOT shared with any other devices.
I have checked and double checked each suggestion just to make sure that I have covered all of my bases.
I have however discovered a few more things that have boggled my mind. Like I metioned before, the sound from the 2. system is perfect, the channels isolate from right
to left and I have no problems with it whatsoever. The Logitech Z-2300 speakers that I am using have a small satelite/volume control that has a headphone jack in it. The sound becomes
extremely distorted when I plug headphones into either this jack or directly into the soundcards "Line out". Which leads me to believe that it isn't necessarily the speaker setup.
One interesting that that I DID notice however, is that the distortion from my headphones goes away if I manipulate the volume in the "Creative Surround Mixer". Regardless of what setting
I have my speakers set to (headphones, 2., 5.) this problem is the same. I have noticed that within the "Creative Surround Mixer", in the advanced tab where you can adjust the "Left" or "Right"
channel of your speakers, that if I lower the left completely and keep the right volume full then the sound becomes perfect. It works the other way as well, if I lower the right volume level and keep
the left level at full volume then the sound becomes clear in the same manner. Now, this is a temporary fix and I can use this for the time being, but I still cannot Isolate each channel from the other.
When just my Logitech speakers are connected I hear the left channel from the left side and the right from the right. When using the headphones I hear the "Left" in both side simultaneously,
and the same with the "Right" channel. I want to resolve this issue so that I can utilize the positional audio that this card has given me in the past. I know that the headphones are not at fault
becuase I have tried with two separate pairs of them. It seems like the channels are crossing/interfering with each other somehow and I'm not saavy enought to solve this problem. Thank you
for your continuing effort with this issue.

The issue is still there. I'm not entirely certain what I am supposed to be checking for but the problem remains. Regardless of the settings that I change within the TRAKTOR player it still seems to exhibit the interferance. I just recieved a letter back from creative tech support telling me that they could not help because the item is OEM.
"Along with the OEM often comes an agreement regarding the support, use
and service of the product. This agreement may place these support
services in the hands of the manufacturer or in the hands of the company
that purchases the product from the manufacturer. At times, support is
placed in the hands of a third party brought into the agreement."
I feel that this is a cop-out. I doubt that newegg is going to have a solution to my problem. I am using the driver disk that came with my hardware and I can't possibly be the only person that is experiencing this kind of erradic behavior. I am frustrated mostly because this was never an issue for me in the past, a month ago everything worked fine.
Could it be possible that there are other hardware/software/drivers that I may have installed that could be effecting my headphones in this manner?
    Is it time to reformat?
    -Mil0

  • My iPod can't plays music on the right headphone

Hi I am having some problems with my I put any headphones or speakers in the headphone jack it only
plays on the left side while the right side stays quiet. Also the headphone jack seems to be looser because I can jiggle the connector of my headphones around when plugged in and if I get it in the right place it start to play in the right but if i let go it stops playing in the right and goes back to the left only
I'm wondering if anyone has found a home solution to this problem or if the Genius Bar could resolve this problem for me.

Did you ever get a solution for this? I'm having the same problem on my iPod Touch, but Apple refuses to service it because they noticed a bump near the volume control when I sent it in. Accidental damage, out of luck, out of $300. It was two months old. I'm no technician, not by a long shot, but to me, bumping it there is a long way away from the headphone jack. Not to mention, it had to have been weeks in between whenever that happened and the headphone jack going out. I'm so furious and disappointed in the experience I've received from them. They've been very nice stonewalling me, but now I'm just annoyed with the thing every day and just want the battery to run out so I can go get some other device. Anyway, what ever happened here?

  • 2010 Nano 'Kills' right headphone/earbud?

I was in Paris the other day and after finishing up my work I grabbed my iPod Nano and Sony head phones to go out for a stroll.  I barely got through the first song and hadn't even left the hotel yet and the right earphone in the Sonys stoppped working.  Seemed strange, but then I picked up my Dre Tour Beats and went on my way.  An hour later my Tour Beats did the exact same thing.  I've tried them connected to a PC, a MacBook Pro, my iPhone, iPad and the right side doesn't work anymore.  I've seen complaints posted but never a root cause or fix.  I don't want to purchase and ruin another pair but i'm also afraid of purchaisning a new Nano.

Im still confused, the guy on the phone said I DONT have to return the headphones but on the page it says
Important: You must return your defective part to Apple. When you receive your replacement part, please check your box or envelope for return shipping
instructions. If you do not return the defective part,
we will charge a non-return penalty to your credit card.
_ I agree to pay CAD 23.00 if I do not return my defective part to Apple within 10 business days.
And why would I have to put credit card information if it's 0.00? I dont even have a credit card.

  • Only Right Headphone Works

It started almost right after I listened to a song where there was a part where all of the noise would go from left and then right. It was supposed to do that, but then, within the next 10-15 minutes, the left one stopped playing any music at all. I don't know if there is any relation.
Also, this happened after I updated my iPod, which has been suffering from the same stuff that supposedly everyone who updated their iPod has; it's going terribly slow, sometimes freezes, all that great stuff...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks again,

Not sure whether it is a hardware or software issues
    For software
restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If does not solve, likely a hardware issue relates to the headphone jack of your iPod, if you have test with another headphone with same result, you need to send your iPod for service

  • Right headphone channel won't work.

For somereason, the right channel in my headphones won't work in my iPod. It works in all my other deveices like my CD player and computer, but not my iPod. Does anyone know what's wrong?
      Windows Vista

If you are saying the headphones work fine then its most likely to be your ipod's headphone connection but try different headphones first, the ipod's internal connection is replaceable but i don't recommend you trying it, if it is within warranty, send it back to apple,
    Good luck and welcome
