Right Side of Menu Bar

When i restart I am unable to use the items on the right side of the menu bar-sound, spotlight etc.
I have a spinning ball which eventually goes away. Is there a way to fix this?

If you installed Mackeeper, it could have seriously corrupted stuff, and this tip explains how to remove it:

• Right side of menu bar hidden after 2nd monitor disconnect

Hello, When I disconnect my 30" external monitor from my MacBook Pro, the far right side of my menu bar disappears -- the part with the clock and battery information, bluetooth menu and various other little doodads. How do I get the menu back?
Also, is there anyway to keep this from happening?
When the monitor is attached, I have it set up so the menu bar goes on the monitor, as well as the Dock.
The Dock resizes perfectly when I disconnect the external monitor. It's just the menu bar that's screwy.
I'm running an up-to-date version of OS X 10.5.2.

This is how Apple's marketing materials describe the process of hooking up an external monitor to a MacBook Pro:
"Connect an Apple Cinema Display to expand your desktop and lose nothing in translation."
This is false advertising. You lose your clock, WiFi menu, Time Machine menu, Spotlight and more in the translation.
This is a very real bug.

• Right side of menu bar freezes after using AirPlay Mirroring

When I use Airplay Mirroring with my MacBook Pro to stream "web only" videos on Hulu (or to stream Amazon Prime videos) onto my Apple TV, afterwards the right side of my menu bar gets the rainbow spinny thing (the "spinning beach ball of death," as my sister calls it)
I can't click on anything, the time and battery status won't move, the only thing I can click on on the right side is the Notifications tab thing and also DropBox. The left side is working fine, I can click on everything and it responds.
My dad fixed it last time it did this, I think he repaired the permissions or something (not sure though, I wasn't there when he did it.) So I know I can fix it, but I was just wondering if anyone else was having this problem/if it's an issue with the software or just my computer. If it's just my computer, I'll tell Apple and ask them to fix it.
Thanks

Create a new user and see if it happens within that user. If it does, reinstall the operating system. This is also known as an Archive and Install. Be sure to back up your data first. If it doesn't, drag the com.apple.finder.plist file to the desktop from the folder [home folder]/Library/Preferences and restart and see if the problem persists. If it goes away, the issue was a corruption in that file. Let me know if you have any questions.

• Right side of Menu Bar disappears Coming out of a Sleep

Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
Whenever my computer comes out of a sleep, the right side of the menu bar (clock, spotlight, airport, etc.) completely disappears.
I know exactly what's causing it: A week ago I just started using my MacBook with the lid closed. It happens when I unhook the MacBook from all the peripherals (display, power, keyboard) and then plug it back in to the peripherals. Now, if I open it after I unplug it from the peripherals, then plug it back in to them, the menubar will come back. It's only if it remains closed and I re-plug in the peripherals that this happens.
It's quite an annoying bug because the only way I've found to resolve it is to restart.

I found a workaround. Switch the display to a resolution smaller than the previous screen then switch it back.
Example, I have a 15.4 mbp and the resolution is 1400x900 (i think). When I hook up to my dell monitor 1680x1050 my menu bar disappeared. So I switched it to 1360x768 and all my items were back. When I switched it to 1680x1050 right after, the items remained.
The aspect ratios of the two screens are the same. I have a 1280x1024 which this has happened on - I still have to see if it works on that.
Just glad I don't have to reboot to fix this one.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

• Right part of menu bar and menu bar clock freezes.

Right part of menu bar and menu bar clock freezes after a few minutes works. Happens every single session and seems to not be affected of what programs that are running.  There are other anomalities too, which seem to be somehow related, affecting my main software (Finale).  Keyboard Maestro and Time Machine are always running in the background.  Any ideas?

Nope.
BTW:  After restart, it all seems to work.  This seems to happen after the MBP has been taking a nap and in all following sessions.
It's a 2 months old MBP, 8 gB RAM, all the newest updates on everything.

• Remove icons from right end of menu bar

On the Apple site I saw this procedure to remove icons from the right end of the menu bar : To rearrange the menu bar icons on the right end of the menu bar, hold down the Command key while dragging the icons. To remove them, hold down the Command key and drag them out of the menu bar.
It does not work with 10.6.8. As soon as I approach an icon it opens a menu wether I use the right or left hand side of the mouse. I cannot simply drag, as suggested.
Any other suggestion?
Thank you in advance

Some can't be moved or removed.
Check their respective System Preference, perhaps there is a option there to remove it from the menu bar.

• Strange square box on right side of bookmarks bar

Dear Mozilla Support
The other day a strange long square box appeared on the right side of my bookmarks bar.
The bookmarks bar I refer to starts on the left with the words "most Visited" "Start" etc, etc, with all my bookmark links icons displayed going from left to the right... but ... strangely, one day when I started my computer a strange "long square frame" appeared to the right of my bookmarks bar ,
and then pushed all of my bookmarks over to the left (eliminating most ) and now I have just a few bookmarks on that bar with a double arrow " >> " like this . I have to click on the "double arrow" to see the remainder of my bookmarks. I do not wish to have it this way, I would like this "long square frame" removed , so I will finally have "room" for my bookmarks again. By the way, this frame is "Not clickable" nothing happens when you click it, and it is "NOT A SEARCH BOX" it is just a long square frame taking up space on my bookmarks bar. Can someone help. Thankyou in advance ! Rick

There have been reports that this is caused by the Zoom Page 9.0 extension.
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

• No dots top right and no menu bar at bottom

I am trying to use firefox on my new samsung 3s. But I do not have the dots at the top right of the screen, nor do I have the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. I have absolutely no idea whatsoever how to access ANYTHING. I want to use tap to play and set the add ons etc. How can I do this if I cannot access any kind of menu from either the top right or along the bottom of the screen please?

After extensive googling, I have discovered that the new version of firefox has no menu at all on the visible page, but uses the galaxy s3's own menu button on the bottom of the phone when firefox page is open.

• HT201956 Why does the right side of the menu bar disappear or blink when I turn on my epson XP200 printer?

Why does the right side the menu bar disappear or blink when I turn on my epson XP 200 printer?

I have also been experiencing the same problems. Mac user since 1991. I own various machines but this particular problem lies with a MacBook Pro 2008 using 10.5.4
The laptop has two users. One is fine while one is not. A new user was created but upon logging in for the first time the right hand side of the menu bar blinked off and on just like the existing user. No hard drives have been connected. All files backed up via drag and drop wirelessly.
Since this development I have been unable to get to my iDisk; it might be related or coincidental. Last night I re-entered my .mac/MobileMe account details whereupon I was presented with a message saying the machine had not synced before. Not true. It had been syncing automatically since the day of purchase March 2008. I wonder if there is a connection between somewhere deep down in the Library, updated versions for 10.5.4 and MobileMe. Somewhere along the line a combination of events triggered the tool bar to start blinking...
It's strange how one user is fine (seldom used and DOES NOT have a MobileMe account) while the main one, me, is not fine (used heavily throughout the day and DOES have an active MobileMe account).
At this point, I don't intend to re-install and start all over again (I've done this so many times with other machines over the years that I was hoping those days had finally gone based upon Apple's brilliant recent advancements).
Any help or comments will be welcome.
Cheers!

Make a list of all the third-party applications that load an icon in the menu bar. Go through the list and eliminate all of them as suspects.

• Menu bar icons continually refreshing

Every 15 seconds or so, all of the items on the right side of menu bar - including the clock, but excluding the Notification Center icon - disappear and rebuild themselves. This started yesterday when I upgraded to OS X 10.8.2. I've removed all of the third party apps from the menu bar and it is still happening.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Troy

disable the spotlght icon. the service will still run in the background. you're just hidng the icon.
Hide the Spotlight Menu Icon in OS X
To reemphasize, this does not disable Spotlight or mds, it only hides the icon from the menubar.
Launch the Terminal from /Applications/Utilities/ and type the following command string exactly:
sudo chmod 600 /System/Library/CoreServices/Search.bundle/Contents/MacOS/Search
Hit return, and then you will need to kill a process called “SystemUIServer” to refresh the menubar in OS X and have the change take effect:
killall SystemUIServer

• Bug In Menu Bar Caused By NASA Photo Download

This post is just a heads up for anyone else who may have had encountered this problem.
Yesterday I suddenly I started getting a light gray line about 1/4 the size of the Menu Bar area right below the Menu Bar that went from one side of the screen to the other. Additionally I had a large number/letters combination up in the far right hand corner of the Menu Bar. These characters were backwards and were S125E011835.
With the help of a good friend the source of this problem was found. Yesterday morning I had downloaded a photo titled: "Hubble Floats Free" from this NASA web site:
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/archivepix.html
After downloading it I placed it in iPhoto and then made it a Desktop photo.
I had searched the computer for the above letter number combo with no luck, but my friend went a step further and googled it! Upon doing so he came up with that NASA photo that I had just downloaded a short time earlier.
No idea what is in that photo to cause this problem but though I would pass this along just in case anyone else may be experiencing it. I have been downloading photos from this web site for several years and making Desktop photos out of them and had never experienced this problem.

NOT a bug. New interface.

Send a "gripe" to Apple.
If enough people do, maybe (maybe) they'll change it.

• Menu Bar and Hard Drive Icon M.I.A.

Hi
When I woke my MacBook from "sleep" a while ago I have no menu bar or any of the icons that go on the right side of the screen. My dock is barely visible. I've tried system preferences to check on the screen size in "display". It's set to 1280 X 800. I've restarted about 4 times. I shut down and started. It keeps coming back this way. I went to user>library>preferences>apple.com systemuiserver.plist and deleted it. Then restarted. No joy. Please help?
Thank you!

This sounds like either damaged OS files that the Combo update did not replace or an incompatible add-on of some kind, especially a "haxie" that adds a third party (not from Apple) Menu Extra toward the right of the menu bar. There are actually two kinds of menu bar add-ons, menu extras & status items. Menu extras can be rearranged with an ⌘ key drag; status items cannot. Avoid third party menu extras if possible. Although popular & useful, Apple does not support their use. They can cause problems, including ones that interfere with the proper installation of OS updates that can require reinstalling the OS to fix.
Assuming you only have Apple menu extras installed, I suggest you try starting up in Safe Mode. If behavior reverts to normal, but only until the next normal startup, then you probably have an incompatible add-on. If not, you may have to reinstall Snow Leopard 'over itself' - IOW, just run the installer again after starting up from the DVD.
If a safe boot is only temporarily effective, while in that mode create a temporary new user account. Restart & log into that account instead of your normal one. If the problem disappears, then the incompatible item is somewhere in your home folder.
