Right-to-left text direction missing in Indesign CC 9.2

I'm trying to localize an English file to Arabic. According to some of Adobe help files there should be text direction in the Paragraph menu but I don't see them. The "Reverse Layout" option that is available in InDesign CS5 ME is not available in InDesign CC. How can I reverse the layout in InDesign CC and how can add the text direction buttons. I'm sure they are not there so do I need to download something additional.
Please help!

You need to download and install the English-Hebrew or English-Arabic version. In the CC Desktop App you can click the gear icon and change the language to access them.

  • Right to Left text

Hey, does anyone know why I can't see a right-to-left text direction button on my InDesign CC?
I'm using the Adobe World-Ready Paragrah Composer.
    Thanks!

Well, if you are using Windows, its the CC app in your notification area in the lower-right-hand corner of your screen. You click on that, then on the gear icon in its upper-right-hand corner, then click on Preferences. Then you choose Apps, then there's an Apps Language dropdown.
Sorry, I assume you can log into creative.adobe.com and do it there as well, but I have no idea what the step-by-step instructions are for doing it that way.

  • [JS] [CS4] Right to left text when Placing

    Hey.
In CS4 - If I want text to flow right-to-left for an entire story when doing a text file 'Place' what attributes do I need to set?
    Thanks for your help.

I'm pretty sure that you need the style to be set to
the World Ready Composer to get right-to-left text to import correctly.
Other than that, you might want to set the story direction (for multi-
column frames), and paragraph direction as well as an apropriate font,
    etc...

  • How to use math symbols in a right to left text properly?

    Hey there
When I write a simple mathematical equation or a number(which has sign) in the middle of a right to left text in a text box(I simply set keyboard language to EN for typing expressions & numbers) it's like mathematical symbols are somehow not considered math symbols and that's weird since in word it's not that way, take the following sentence for example that means result of the 0-127 expression is -127:
حاصل عبارت 127-0 برابر 127- است.
In word I can type it just fine(for typing expressions and numbers I set keyboard language to EN) but when I type it the same way in adobe acrobat I get this:
حاصل عبارت 0-127 برابر -127 است.
copy & paste from word also doesn't do any help, so If I want to get it right I should type math expressions from right to left meaning as instance to type 0-127 I should first type 127 then - and finally 0 also should type digits of a number before typing its sign as example for typing -127 I should first type 127 then - ,now I wonder is it the way acrobat works or I'm doing something wrong.
By the way OMG o_O even when I did copy & paste my messasge from word to the text box of forum for posting, it ended up treating math parts in upper right to left paragraph the same way as acrobat  I just had to write them from right to left!
    Anyone has any idea?

In a word document I wrote:
حاصل عبارت 127-0 برابر 127- اسـت
Then tried printing it using "Adobe PDF" printer, in output pdf that sentence was written in right order and interestingly it was broken into three text boxes   thanks for reply.

  • How can I edit an InDesign file that contains right-to-left text (arabic, hebrew...) with InDesign CC?

With previous CS versions, there was a special ME (middle east) version of InDesign that had all the necessary right-to-left functions. Is there a CC ME version, or is there another solution?

So this comes at no extra cost to the CC subscription?
    Yes
And can it open older files that were created with Indesign CS5 ME for example?
    Yes
Add to that you can also download and install indesign cs6 version

  • Vertical text, right to left text, Japanese documents...

I downloaded the iWork '09 demo and immediately checked to see if I could finally type a Japanese document in the traditional way (lines vertical top to bottom, read right to left).
Am I correct in thinking this is still not possible?
This is the forth version of Pages and it's still impossible to write a document correctly in Japanese. On the Japanese iWork page all the screen shots show English language documents. This alone really says a lot about the quality of this product for non-English documents.

You are correct. Apple even says that this is the case when it lists the system requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/iwork/systemrequirements.html
I think the only apps that can do vertical text in OS X are MS Word, NeoOffice/OpenOffice, iTextPro/LightwayText, plus Japanese InDesign or QuarkExpress 8.

  • PDF Maker problem in outlook using right to left text

    Hello,
I am using the PDF Maker application in outlook (acrobat 7.0.5 and outlook 2002)  which allows the user to convert an email message (or folder with messages)  in the outlook to a PDF document.
    My question is :
When the document contains languages from right to left (Hebrew), the converting PDF Maker process changes the letters order in the "from", "to" and the "subject" fields to be from left to right . The text in the message itself is in the right direction (right to left).
How can I overcome this issue ?
    Thanks
    Naomi

My acrobat version 7.0.5 does support ME languages

  • Vertical Right-to-Left Text?

How can I enter vertical text that reads right-to-left in Pages? This is the traditional way of writing for some languages such as Japanese. This is trivial to do in Microsoft Word. There must be a way to do this in Pages. Can anyone help?

Yes, that is more or less my list as well. Last time I went to Japan, I tried to get hold of a copy of the discontinued Japanese word processor Egword, but failed. I asked one of the shopkeepers in Akihabara if there were no commonly used alternatives to MS Word 2008 for the Mac, and got the unusually clear answer "No".
The Japanese version of MS Word has the advantage over Western versions that it automatically proposes the hiragana when you add ruby text. I do not think that works in any of the Western versions, even if Japanese features are switched on.
In addition the Japanese version contains all (?) the Western dictionaries and proofing tools, like "French Grammar", "Nynorsk Hyphenation" and "German Thesaurus" and all that.
Provided you are able to read the Japanese text in the menus and dialogues, the Japanese version of MS Word is a fairly good investment.
By the way, last time I checked, only the English and Japanese versions of MS Word did vertical text and ruby. The French and German and the other ones do not. I think.

  • Image text is missing in InDesign CS4

    Hi everybody,
I am using InDesign CS4 with MAC OS X 10.5.8. I encountered a problem that the Text is missing in the eps image, when imported on InDesign document. Refer below screenshot.
I have used “Times New Roman” Type1 font in InDesign document. And for images I have used the same “Times New Roman” as OTF font. Refer below screenshots.
Type 1 fonts used in InDesign:
Open Type Font used in Images:
Here, I caught one more finding. If I save the image as Adobe Postscript as “Language Level 2”, I don’t have any text missing issue in InDesign document. But, if I save the image as “Language Level 3”, I found this missing text issue in the document. Refer below screenshots.
Could anyone hlep me what the exact issue. Any help is much appreciated!!

Yes Bob. This new thread was raised by me to explain the issue in detail.
Further to my analysis, I found that when I load the job fonts in “Applications/Adobe InDesign CS5/Fonts”, we got this text missing issue. And the same job fonts, when I load in “Users/<user_name>/Library/Fonts”, it showing correct.
    Any thoughts?

  • How do you change the text direction in Adobe InDesign CS6?

My version is the middle eastern version and i don't want my punctuations to go to the start of the sentence. Also, i went to preferences>type and i can't find the text engine option so i'm lost right now.

Try Mail Preferences/Junk tab and under " When Junk Mail Arrives" click Performe Custom Action then advanced
you will see the option for colors.
    Hope this helps

  • Converting pdf to word messes up right-to-left text

    Windows 7 Ultimate
    Office 2007
    Acrobat 9 Pro
    Adobe Reader X
I'm not sure if this problem is with Adobe or Word (or maybe the problem is just more than the sum of its parts!).
I've exported a pdf leaflet in Arabic  (text over background graphics), to word 2007 but the Arabic text seems to have been messed up in the process. There are a few bits of English text but they're fine. The (health related info, in case anyone's concerned) leaflet needs to be converted to word to be sent to a translator for editing.
I think this leaflet might have been originally created on InDesign....relevant?
I have  installed the latest Arabic language pack to Windows.
Any ideas about what's going on & what I can do about it welcomed!

It was set as ‘Retain Flowing Text’ by default, so I tried it again as ‘Retain Page Layout’ & it seemed to convert the Arabic text as images (like a screenshot?), which defeats the object of it being editable in word. It also lost one section.
I tried again with each of above, but ‘Include Images’ deselected.........
Retain flowing text, include images deselected – “Save As failed to process this doc. No file created”
Retain page layout, include images deselected –                              ditto
Would it help if I attached the original pdf? Actually, I can't see how to do that here, so if you think it would be useful could you explain how?
    Thanks!
