Rights management for digital artwork to PDF sent to online printers

I posted last year about this and learnt about LC management which is helpful,
its just the cost.
I`m a designer/illustrator and looking to print my digital artworks with online giclee printers to canvas who are in the U.S and U.K but I am in Australia.
I wanted to use livecycle rights management to give them access to printing my artwork yet keep it limited in being able to pass the file around to other printers..
However the cost for a single person is prohibitive,
I`m hoping adobe can set up something for digital artists to create confidence in sending out artwork as PDF to printers, like an online subscription plan for livecycle rights management, or pay per use or annual fee, something like this where adobe manage the servers..
I am using the creative suite lease version online for monthly rental of $130 and really enjoy the system of the 12 month contract available in Australia. I`m hoping to access something like this for live cycle management that is affordable for someone looking at getting high quality printers to print their designs.
$1000 to $2000 per year as a usage fee would be something I could entertain.
Communication with the print industry would be needed prior as they may have issues with having to access online files for high end printing.

A subscription service is being developed (see http://dc.adobe.com ) but  it can't be used to secure PDFs sent for service digital printing, as  the print shop will need the ability to alter the document (for example  to impose pages into the media sizes they print to, add crop marks,  color-match plates, etc). Digital printers therefore invariably demand  that the PDFs they are sent have no security applied at all.
They  also tend to use different software (Illustrator, etc) or old versions  of Acrobat, which won't support DRM. If your PDF is completely ready to  print without changes, most printers send the file to a standalone RIP -  and they don't open secured files at all.
Trusting the printer  with your files is part of the deal when you print using a service  bureau. If you don't, don't. There's no way round it.

  • A new Book: Color Management for Digital Photographers

Ted Padova and Don Mason have published a new book: Color Management for Digital Photographers for Dummies (ISBN 978-0-470-04892-4).
As the back cover of the manual states "This book is packed with examples to guide you through understanding color basics, correcting brightness and contrast, getting the exact tone and hue, and creating perfect prints - in full color, of course!" (with the tools available in PSE 4 and 5).
I had the luck to benefit from the excellent experience and the gracious help of Don Mason for a color/brightness adjustment problem in a Dafodill photo that I did not know how to solve on my own. I look forward to learn much more from this book.
Probably other PSE users could also be interested in this book.

Yes, I've tried all of the options: Printer manages color, PSE manages color. All are the same dark prints.
On another conversation on this forum, I read the following. Very discouraging to think that Adobe knows of this problem but won't give me any tech support because too much time has lapsed.
I don't know what "plugs" are--sounds like this user figured out a way around it.
    Any advice?
    Thanks!

Re: Color mismatch EpsonR800 and Elements 6
Adobe has admitted that there is a color management issue with PSE 6 for Mac. I have an Epson R1900 and I am now getting acceptable color-managed prints by allowing the Epson Printer driver to manage color management (ie; color management in PSE 6 turned off). The Epson Photoshop Plug In also works well with PSE6 and ICC profiles; however, I have yet to solve 2 problems with this particular plug in: (1) How to get the program to capture 3rd party ICC profiles and (2) how to print borderless prints. If anyone has seen a user guide for this particular plug in, I would be grateful to know how to download it.

  • Digital Rights Management for EBooks

    Hi All,
I need to know the API which supports "Digital Rights Management". I want to develop an application for secure download of E-Books.
Please let me know the API used to implement the secure download of E-Books by encrypting the ebook and generating a "key" to safeguard the ebook.
    Thanks in advance.

Um, I don't know that there's any. I mean, there could be, but as far as I know, the rights management has to do with the file and the reader, not the download server. If you want to prevent downloads by unregistered users, there's plenty of info out there on securing your web site. But once the file is downloaded, it can be given to anyone, and your web server has nothing to do with that. That's where the DRM stuff comes into play.

  • Digital Signature and Rights Management

    Hello all,
I'm following the document below and have a couple of questions on how to achieve that objective, that is how to provide a persistent document security.
    http://www.adobe.com/security/pdfs/acrobat_livecycle_security_wp.pdf
I understand that I need to protect the PDF first using the Rights Management, then digitally sign it afterwards. This is pretty straight forward when using LC Digital Signatures, just build a process in LC Workbench, unlock the PDF temporary, send to Digital Signature operation, get it back and return the RM.
But when I use a third part digital signature solution? Is it possible to use another digital signature solution to get this - by defining a call to a webservice in workbench to sign the PDF.
For information: this digital signature solution complies with digital signatures in PDF.
    Thanks in advance!
    Diego

    Hi Lee,
It's some module within IBM Lotus Notes. I'm trying to do the following in the Workbench:
With a RM document, Unlock it then invoke this 3rd part webservice in order to sign it. It's not working so far.
But if I follow your suggestion, when I re-RM the PDF wouldn't this invalidate the Digital Signature?
    Thanks for the quick reply!

  • Artwork files (PDF) - colour replacement

artwork files (PDF) sent from pc or housed on server - when viewed on mac - certain colours replaced with black - primarily RED and Yellow - why would this happen?

Best, perhaps, to ask in the Adobe Acrobat Users Forum. What are you using to view the files? Preview, Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader? I've never seen what you describe, but someone had to create the pdf file somehow and I would guess that they are using Acrobat.

  • PC Suite and Windows rights management

I have trouble connecting my N80 to get sync'ed properly and have been browsing this discussion. It seems like many of the issues are linked to the same: rights management for Windows users. Maybe Nokia developers are a bit unfamiliar too this? If you test the sw on a single station with no networking and policy, you will not get a result reflecing the world of the user.
At least suply an .exe package for installation enabling us to "run as" under Windows for installing for users WITHOUT local admin rights (common corporate practise).
Furtermore I wonder where the "clean-up" application went? Uninstalling PC Suite leaves a lot residue in registry.

seraphim. You have missed the point.
As a general policy, windows users should not run their machine logged on as a user with administration rights. This is good security practice and this policy will be enforced in Vista.
The Nokia PC Suite can only be installed by an administrative user, it writes to the registry for that user and that user only. If the same person (ie:me) then logs back in in normal (user) mode, the software won't work.
Normally there is a workaround. You log in as a normal user with user rights. Choose the installation executable and select (by right-clicking) 'run as ..' This allows the package to be run with administrative privileges - the username and password for an administrator is required before the action completes - but in the *context* of the normal user account, so the registry changes apply to the normal account.
Because PC Suite is distributed as an .msi file, this workaround is not available.
The proposal to use active directory to distribute software which will only be of relevance to people with a particular gadget is unrealistic. This is precisely the case where standalone installs by trusted administrators should be used.
The real problem is that PC Suite does not install properly and is confused by a change of user identity. This just needs fixing. A workaround using 'run as ..' would be useful however.
No one is proposing that the software should be installed by just anyone. 'run as ..' prevents this by requiring administrative credentials. At present even a fully qualified network administrator with full local rights *cannot* install PC Suite for a normal user.
This is not right. Being rude to prolie_no will not make it so.
You might also like to take some time to make sure that your links work.

This is something you will need to talk to the publisher of the document. They might have to do something to allow you to open the file. (If you changed Adobe ID since buying the file, for instance, they might have to allow for that).

  • Lifecycle Rights Management ES for CATIA

    Hello,
I would just like to confirm a few points considering CATIA and Microsoft Office documents.
Digital rights of native CATIA files cannot be controlled directly . They must be converted to pdf in order apply rights management. Thus, file distribution will only be done by pdf files.
Contrary to CATIA files, native Microsoft Word documents CAN be controlled from Office Applications (for example, the save command of Word can be restricted). This is functionally equivalent to Microsoft's Rights Management Service.
This may be already stated in the documents.
    Thanks in advance.

I think LiveCycle does support Catia file. Client (Catia) has to have extension for LiveCycle though.
I found this from my Google search:

  • PDF support for Album Artwork??

The time of digitally distributed music has come; by necessity or force, it's here. Apple is one of the leaders with iTunes, and have brought some of the most artistic people together as employees and consumers under the Apple Inc. community...
HOWEVER: Is there not a more dynamic way of dealing with Album Artwork in iTunes yet?
Why has Apple not made it a point to really pioneer the visual-artistry that has accompanied albums for decades in the new digital realm? Album artwork is ALMOST as important as the music itself, yet apple has not made some sort of dynamic, perhaps PDF style support for album "booklets" for non-iTunes store music. Coverflow introduces it, yet leaves much to be desired, and the way one goes about editing album art for multiple covers per song is underdeveloped. You have to drag one item in at a time and it's clunky.
Too often a musical group will allow their album to be downloaded from their website after purchasing the hardcopy, being sure to include a PDF of their cover and booklet, only be ultimately put in the trash by me, the consumer, because there is no real way to view it, or even store it in iTunes.
It would be wonderful to see this relatively simple but incredibly important aspect of music culture taken into more consideration, and become a strong component of iTunes in the near future. With the amount of development time put into iTunes I'm sure this issue could easily be solved with creativity and speed. The ability to drag a PDF right into the album artwork box on the bottom left of iTunes would be awesome and convenient. (I'd love to even see some kind of visual art, or "album art" Podcasts, downloadable artistic portfolios, or artbooks).
Thank you Apple for all you do.
    Max
p.s. If I am in fact way off in my observations in regards to the lack of album artwork support, please, by all means tell me. I would love to be incredibly wrong and have there be a solution already built into iTunes. I know there are booklets included with some of the albums purchased in iTunes, but we still can't just drag a PDF into iTunes and have it stick to a song.

So no real answers here yet. I too would like to know the resolution at which the album artwork is displayed on my iPod photo in order to optimise my music library.
If either of you find the answer please let me know - benedict dot mortimer at gmail dot com. I'm going to pose this question in a new feed now...
    Thanks.
ps - I see Google image search as the best way to find album artwork.
