RIM Servers

Hello,
Does anybody know where RIM host their services which power BBM and internet browsing servers in the UK?
Thanks.

Well, frankly, if RIM is smart (please, let's not now start a debate about that!), their servers are in a cloud with full fail over plus traffic redirection during congestion. Which would mean that a tracert at one moment could be different the next. But, that also would fall into the "proprietary information" bucket of knowledge, I'd think.
Cheers!

  • Uncaught error java nullpoint exception, email icons disappeared, application loader unable to back up data, desktop manager unable to connect

    Model:  Curve 8900
    Provider: At&t
    Platform: 4.2.0.108
I'm ready to throw this phone in the blender.... if I could only back up my data first. A couple of months ago the What's App application required an update. I updated it and ever since my phone has steadily had more and more issues. First, I kept getting this uncaught error message, shortly thereafter the 2 email accounts (both gmail) that I have linked to the account disappeared. The message icon shows that I have messages, but icons not there (I have tried the show all option). At one point the message icon started exponentially adding the number of messages until it got up to over 86,000. When I reboot the phone it goes back down and then steadily increases again... usually though it's more to 400 - 500 rather then tens of thousands. I have been trying to install updates and do a wipe of the BB so that I can start from scratch, unfortunately the application loader is unable to back up data. The desktop manager is unable to connect to the blackberry and indicates that an upgrade is required. I have tried doing the upgrade both directly from the phone and connected to the desktop manager, but nothing seems to work. If I try to upgrade the software directly from the BB, I get to the start download button and when I click, nothing happens. I have removed all applications except bberry app world and one game that I play, Pixelated Plus. Still nothing. Any ideas?

Do you want to save the messages?
If not (and I think they are the problem) open the Desktop Software > Device > Delete Data and click the "select Data" option. Select the Messages to remove. Complete the prompts and finish.
Then, return to backup the entire device, and see if that is possible to complete this time with no messages.
Now, once the back up is done and you have your data, you can disconnect the device.
Now, use BBSAK to wipe the device and subsequently load the new operating system.
**If you cannot complete the backup again above, you might have to do without it, OR you can use the Desktop Software to sync your Address book, calendar, memos and tasks to Outlook. OR, you can easily install and use BlackBerry Protect to backup your device over the air to RIM servers, then once wiped and the new OS reloaded, you can use Protect to restore the data back to the 8900. << This you should do regardless.
Good luck, post back here as you have questions.

    Hi, Dave.
If you're using the BlackBerry browser, you can't configure anything to bypass the RIM servers.  I believe you may do so by using the Opera browser, but I haven't tried it myself so cannot comment with authority.
I hope that clears up the issue for you.

  • IP related to Nigeria?

    Hi,
in February 2014 I noticed in the recent account activities details of my gmail account that my email account was obviously accessed via moble device from IPs related to Nigeria (93.186.31.82 ; 93.186.23.81; 93.186.23.82 and 93.186.31.99). After a first shock I did some research on the website http://ip-lookup.net/index.php and found out that every sinle IP mentioned above are related to RIM servers located in the UK.
I changed my account's password and logged into gmail from my blackberry curve 9300 and then again checked the recent acount access activities on gmail-site. I had to notice that the apparent access from Nigeria was in fact myself accessing my gmail account from my blackberry though I was in... Germany (but it showed it as Nigeria).
I then changed my Curve 9300 device for a Q5 and since then the IPs shown in recent activities (gmail) are always from Deutsche Telekom (my mobile provider). Thats hw it should be and is quite reassuring.
    So my questions are:
    1) Is the connection via RIM Servers only used for specific blackberry models (i.e. Curve) and not for more recent models like the Q5? and if so, why is that? different browsers? OS?
    2) Why is Gmail showing the country "Nigeria" for IPs of RIM located in UK?
    3) RIM, can you confirm that the IP adresses mentioned above are all owned and run by RIM and not by some Nigerian scamers/hackers?
    thank you.

What you refer to, for the legacy device, is BIS -- BlackBerry Internet Service. This is infrastructure, hosted by the carriers and BB, which enables the BB proprietary services (email, browser, etc.) on legacy devices. BIS is not used on BB10, only on legacy devices.
    bb2014 wrote:

Being the Internet, anything can be hosted anywhere. It is entirely possible that BIS services can shift from location to location as needs arise (e,g., server failures, server overloads, etc.). Unfortunately, here in this user-to-user community, there is no way for anyone here to know for sure...all we can do is theorize.

Being a user-to-user community, this question cannot be answered here. If you desire formal support on the issue, you will need to use your formal support channel -- which starts with your mobile service provider.
    Good luck!

  • Avaya One-X Mobile for Backberry

    Dear Sir,
I'm sending you this message trying to get your assistance & help in one problem that I'm facing & that can be described as following:
After istalling a specific application on my device (Blackberry Bold 9700) which is Avaya One-X Mobile 5.2 that can be found on this site: http:\\app.avaya.com, I tried to configure it to connect to its related server pulished on the Internet. And as recommended from Avaya technical support, the Blackberry has a 3G connection and a BIS subscription.
With all these settings, I'm always receiving error message when trying to login telling me to check the server URL or IP being unreachable, while it's working properly on iphone
Contacting the 3G provider as the Avaya support, they suggested to contact your support forum checking if there is any blocked port (80 - 443) on your RIM servers providing this service in our country Lebanon - Middle East.
    Waiting your precious answer,
    Best regards,
    Chady Nasr.

  • DATA Services in EUROPE (Ukraine/Poland)

    Hello,
I am a Canadian with a BB Bold 9900. I have unlocked the phone.
This June I am travelling to Europe for the soccer tourney.
I don't think Ukraine has Rim servers/data... what is my best option to have data working? What can I expect?
If I buy a SIM card in France, or Ukraine... can I get data service? Will email and BBM work?
I know when I have WIFI only, bbm and email still work... is data from a different wireless provider any different? Please advise!

    Hi puresoundz,
Yes you can buy sim in other countries. You can ask their service/data plan to work your BBM or emails. Make sure your phone is not locked from your carrier.

  • Suspended. Reason: 116 - Invalid Identifier

    Hello Everybody,
I hope someone here can help me.
My Blackberry Curve stopped receiving or sending data comunications last night.  My service provider(Rogers) troubleshot the issue down to the RIM servers.  Rogers stated that they could not access the RIM envirnoment to resolve this and I was given a phone number.  1 800 327-9085
It looks like I need to pay for a support call in order to have my Blackberry reinstated. This is of course ridiculous...since it was through no fault of mine that this issue has occured.
The error message: Suspended. Reason: 116 - Invalid Identifier
How can I resolve this ?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Call Rogers back and ask (demand politely ) that  your issue be escalated to the RIM tech support level, for free. They will do that. There is no reason for you to pay for per incident support.
Rogers would not give you any reason for the Suspension?
What was suspended, your Rogers account, your PIN, your what?

  • How often does my Curve 9300 check for new email messages?

    Hello everyone,
I hope that you are all well.
I use a Curve 9300 (3G) and assumed that it checked for and retrieved new emails all of the time. However, it seems that it only retreives new messages from my email account every so often. Could someone please let me know how often it checks for new emails?
Also, when I run a Diagnostic Test in the Mobile Network Options menu the result says NO when it tests to see if it is connected to my email account. When I ran tests a while ago the result was YES. Could someone please let me know if this is anything to worry about?
    Many thanks.

First, you have a misunderstanding that the handheld device "checks" for messages. They don't.
RIM's technology on which the company and popularity was built is that RIM servers go out to your email server and checks for new mail and "pushes" those messages to your handheld BlackBerry.
On a normal POP3 email server, that occurs every 15 minutes and if new messages are found they are pushed and the RIM server checks again in 2 minutes for a few cycles, and after 3-4 cycles of two minute checks, if no new messages are found, it reverts to 15 minutes.
On an IMAP email server, the push is instant. An example of this might gmail accounts, yahoo mail, and private domains hosted by GoDaddy.

  • General Email questions

I've been using my phone for email for over a year... but I still am confused on some things.
I expect to add to this list, too
    1) What does it mean to 'reconcile' the email? Does that mean that messages read on BB will register as read in all other sources (web, Outlook, etc)?
    2) I can save messages. Then, when I want to delete, it asks if I want to delete the saved messages. Does this mean that I have to allow the messages that are saved to appear in my inbox in order to maintain them?
    3) The saved messages: Is there a way to save them to my computer? Some sort of transfer?
    4) How does saving differ from filing? I can file the messages, but it doesn't ask about them when I want to delete messages.
    5) I can hide saved messages. Would that take care of my saved messages issue?
    6) I can make PIN Messages level 1. What is a PIN message? Are these messages the same as long as they are between BBs?
    7) I often get a bunch of messages at once (for example: when I get a replacement device and reconfigure my emails). I spend a lot of time looking for messages that weren't opened yet. I don't always see the 'Open next unopened message'. I'm not sure the circumstances when it does appear. What can I do to get the prompt for the next unread message?
    8) What exactly does it mean when it says 'On conflicts Mailbox wins'?
    Pax,
    GFApryl
    Detroit

    1. "Reconcile" means little on a POP email account, more on an IMAP email server account, and lots on a corporate BES account. BIS accounts do not reconcile to Outlook.
Reconcile means to "make equal, or even the messages on the device and email server", basically in the simple terms in which I can put it. To "sync" means to move messages from the handheld to the server and vice versa.
According to the type email server you have (IMAP, POP), your messages "might" reconcile their "read" status and deletions made on one source might delete to the other. So for instance, if you have Gmail and you delete a message on your BlackBerry, it should reconcile that delete to your Gmail web portal. And, if you send a message from your Gmail web portal, now that sent message will reconcile to your handheld as a sent message. Most all IMAP type accounts will do this, most all POP type accounts will not.
But regardless, Outlook really doesn't enter in to the equation until you're on an Exchange server and BES.
Does that help, with me not knowing your email server type?
    2. When you save a message, it sort of moves that message to a "saved" folder on the device. You can delete the message from the main messages and still have the saved message.
    3. Desktop Manager > Backup will create a backup of your entire device, including messages. Done at least weekly, you will always have them if you need, by using Desktop Manager > Restore.
But, there is really not a good way to view your "saved" messages to your PC. There are third party applications which can extract and read the IPD file created from the backup, should you need, like ABC Amber IPC Extractor software, for the PC.
    4. Saving a message saves the message ON your device, only. It will remain saved, forever. Filing just puts that message into a different folder.
    5. What IS your saved message issue?
    6. PIN messages are messages made between two BlackBerrys using the PIN of your device as the address of the recipient, or you as the sender. Every BlackBerry has a unique PIN number (yours is located at Options > Status). PIN message flows ONLY over the RIM networks, and is super secure and never enters other servers across the world.
    7. While in your messages listing, press the U key to go to the next Unread message.
    8. IF the BIS servers were to find a conflict in your commands (deleting a message, etc.) you can set which you prefer to be the "master" decider on conflicts. "Mailbox wins" means your server is the "master" if there is ever a conflict on RIM servers deciding what to do. Sorta like a husband knowing that if there is a ever a conflict between Mom and Child, Mom always wins. Right?
    Hope that helps some.

  • Microsoft Mobile Services Protocol

Hi, Im wondering if RIM removed the msnmsp from live accounts.
I was with BELL and was able to change the protocol for my hotmail account from a POP to an MSNMSP. I liked the Microsoft Mobile Services Protocol because messages were delivered to my device promptly, now I have to wait about 15 mins top get email all my other email like yahoo, AOL and even my GoDaddy email comes in promptly.
Now i am with Telus and they fricken refuse to properly transfer me to RIM and they even lie to me saying that they dont have tier 2 support which I know they have because I looked into it and also found out that they can.

Ok, Problem resolved, but not with out LOTS of time, work and aggravation.
I started on the phone with AT&T, and they gave up after 30 minutes (though they were extremely polite...).  AT&T then transferred me to RIM, and I ended up with a nice tech in Canada.  Tech #1 went through all kinds of tests and could not fix the issue. AND - I did have to give him my password so he could try to setup my email account himself.  He then transferred me to Tech#2, who was very knowledgeable, and fully understood my problem though he did not known how to fix it.  We managed to get my MSN email address working as POP, but I told him that before I switched to MMSP, my MSN account was not POP, in so much as email to that address did arrive in realtime.  He understood me, and we both keep trying and finally, he gave up, and said it would have to go to the main techs, who essentially work on the BB/RIM servers/backend.  He promised me it would be setup in 48 hrs.  So after nothing happened with in 48 hrs, I tried re-setting up my msn email myself, and it fully and completely works.
AND - as an added bonus, RIM must have slightly updated BIS, becuase now the Hotmail Contacts Sync actually works.  YES, on my BB 9780, I am 100% syncing my MSN (Hotmail) contacts wirelessly.
So, to make a long story short, DONT SELECT "Switch to Microsoft Mobile Services Protocol"!!! If you do, and you email no longer works, you are going to have to speak with RIM, although you will need to call your carrier first and have them transfer you to RIM, so that way RIM will have your BB's PIN and can see exactly whats going on with your phone.

  • "Microsoft Mobile Services Protocol" Problem

Hello everyone.  4 days ago, I checked my email accounts on my 9780 under Email Setup.  On my primary email address, a  "@msn.com"  address, I noticed a new feature I had never seen or heard of before, called "Switch to Microsoft Mobile Services Protocol".  I did a few minutes of research on what it was (it was suppose to convert my msn email from POP to IMAP, which would have been excellent...)  and I then activated in from my phone.  A few hours later and I realize that email address is not receiving new email, so I do the logical thing, and I delete the email address from Email Setup.  Then, I try to create a new email account using the same @msn.com email address, and the system wont let me.  Every time I do it from the phone, it gives me a error message saying "Update Failed".  I have also tried to create the new email address from BIS online, and it also will not allow me to create a new email account for that specific email address.
I have verified that I can create  new email accounts with other addresses, including other @msn.com addresses, but I just can not create one using my old (and most important) address that I had switched to Microsoft Mobile Services Protocol, and then deleted.
Does anyone know how I go about fixing this problem?
    Many Thanks.
