Ring control with keyboard shortcut

Hi all,
Is there a way to assign shortcut keys to each items in a ring control? The ring control that I have currently has 40 items. My intention is to have it as follows:
[1] Item1
[2] Item2
[3] Item3, etc...
So, once the ring control is active, user can type in "20" to select item #20.
I tried EVENT_KEYPRESS, but as soon as the ring control pop-ups, I can no longer trap any key press events.

Popping up the menu isn't the same as the control having focus for keyboard entry. They are mutually exclusive. One way to do what you want is to basically have to make sure the ring has KeyFocus so you can use the Input Device Control VIs to read the keyboard. You can, for example, set the KeyFocus on a MouseDown event, and unset it for a MouseUp. Then, in the Timeout case for the event structure you can be monitoring the keyboard to see what keys are pressed and act if the ring has KeyFocus. See attached (LV 8.2) as a starting point.

For the love of god it is 2013 and I still can't control the keyboard shortcut commands in After Effects. Why is the command to duplicate different in photoshop and after effects? Doesn't adobes project managers work with each other? Or do the sections close their doors and do their own thing? The 3d space is different in every application they own. Keynote problems with keyboard shortcuts

Is anyone having problems with keyboard shortcuts not working with Keynote? Had this problem (and a host of others) since the upgrade to Mavericks and the latest Keynote.

I can replicate all by problem number 1. Once the PDF loads, I can use the arrow keys to scroll up/down. All of the other problems you mentioned haven't been implemented.

I am trying to switch from Windows to OSX but must first find Mac equivalent solutions for daily tasks performed in Windows.
1. I am looking for an app to quickly resize photos using keyboard shortcuts, i.e. Control + R, just like I can do with Irfanview in Windows.
2. I am looking for an app which will quickly resize multiple photos like I can do with Irfanview.
3. I am looking for another (or the same) light weight app to quickly convert and combine one or more jpgs to PDF. The windows app I am currently using is called JPEGtoPDF from www.compulsivecode.com.

Delete files with keyboard-shortcuts

just wanted to know a few tricks or keyboard shortcuts.
on a pc, when i deleted some files, i always pressed the del-button and then the right-arrow to select 'yes'
on the mac it doesn't work the same. you press the cmd+backspace but when i press de right-arrow to select 'yes', it doesn't work.
it means i have to grab the mouse again. is there some shortcut or key to completely perform this operation with the keyboard.

Sure there is. Select full keyboard access in System Preferences/Keyboard. You will then be able to move around all dialogue boxes (and other controls) via TAB. In addition to ENTER which selects the glowing button, SPACE selects the blue surrounded button.
You can also disable Finder’s "Do you reall want to delete" dialogue in its preferences.

Mission control preferences & keyboard shortcuts

I have three Macs, and would like them all to have the same settings for Mission Control, and the same keyboard shortcuts. Can anyone tell me which files control these aspects of the OS (guessing in $HOME/Library somewhere..?)?

We determined that the problem is limited to your account. To test if it's related to your current library or your account Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. If the command key combinations don't work in the new library then it's an account issue.
Since deleting the iPhoto preference earlier file didn't do the job it could be another preference file. Here's how to test that possiblitiy:
Trouble Shooting Preferences
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
1 - close all applications.
2 - open your Home/Library folder and Option-drag (copy) the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
3 - select the contents of your Home/Library/Preferences folder and drag them into the Trash bin in the Dock. You will be asked to provide your Admin password.
4 - reboot.
5 - run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed
6 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
B - Open the Preferences folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace or Skip button.
D - reboot.
7 - If the problem is NOT fixed, drag the contents of the Preference folder on the Desktop into the Home/Library/Preference folder and replace the entire contents that were created by clicking on Replace.
8 - reboot.
If the command key combinations worked in the new library post back and I'll post the fixes to try.

Insert in timeline with keyboard shortcut

I am looking for the keyboard shotcut to get a clip in the timeline. I can drag it with the mouse, but there must be a way to do it through a keyboard shortcut...

The F9 works but it makes the FCP timeline active, so if i want to keep adding edits from the same clip i have to click the viewer window before continuing, which is really lame because when you drag, you can continue to do so without activating the timeline window

Insert variable with keyboard shortcut

The only keyboard shortcut I can find to insert a variable is CTRL-0. This colors the left side
of the status bar and gives you the entire list of user variables with -- with "Not Applicable" as the
highlighted choice. It appears that you have to traverse the list with the mouse pointer and
click on the desired variable.
This is just as cumbersome as calling up the variables pod and double clicking on the
variable you want.
Is there a way to define a keyboard shortcut to insert a particular variable?

I just updated to 10.0.2 and the behavior is the same.
I can't tell you the version number I had been running because I couldn't find an "About" button.
I thought that FM checked for updates when I installed it from a 10.0 CD. Applications typically check
for available updates when you install and register and let you choose whether to update.
So Adobe doesn't inform you of new FM updates either?
I really appreciate the help I get from this forum. Even though the update installation didn't
say I had to reboot, I'll try that and let you know whether that changes the behavior.
I'd reboot and check right now except that I have a gazillion things open while I work on
the client's document.
But it's not a life-or-death situation. I may even retain my sanity while trying to figure this out...

Safari iOS 8 freezes with keyboard shortcuts on iPad

Safari with iOS 8.0.2 installed freezes if I have one keyboard shortcut with two letters and another with the same two letters followed by a third, e.g., xx and xxz. If I want the text corresponding to the latter, as soon as I try to type the z, the z on the keyboard turns gray and Safari freezes. This was not a problem with iOS 7. Has anyone else experienced this?

My iPad is 3 years old. Prior to installing iOS8, it had never seized up, no matter how many tabs I'd had open. Since installing iOS8, Safari frequently freezes, no matter how many tabs I have open. In an effort to remedy this situation, I've reset my iPad several times from within Settings; I've reset my iPad several times by holding both the on/off & wake/sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple icon appears, thereby allowing the system to reboot; I've deleted numerous cookies from my iPad's memory ... and Safari continues to seize, usually while I'm in the middle of a wikia edit, though also in a Facebook post, and even in a prior Apple inquiry. Just what can I do to cease this vicious cycle? What is the solution to this iOS8 debacle?

Toggle Play and Resume System Variables with Keyboard Shortcut

Hey Folks,
In many popular video applications (YouTube, Vimeo, Hulu, etc), the Spacebar is used to Play (and then) Pause the movie and I want my project to stay consistent with this.
I'd like to have a single keyboard shortcut (maybe to a hidden button on a Master Slide) that,Plays or Pauses (depending on what is happening) a slide video (or the entire project really), and I want that shortcut to be the Spacebar.
I will be having slide videos (user clicks an Image to go to a slide video, not event video). Playbar will be visible during this time.
In trying to accomplish this, I see that cpCmndPause is an available System Variable. I would assume cpCmndResume is the counterpart to that, or is cpCmndPause=0 the counterpart?
Anyone have an idea how to accomplish this?

Spacebar cannot be assigned as a shortcut key. probably because it will be reclaimed by browser. The toggle part is easier.

Turning on/off airport with keyboard shortcuts

i read about a method, in a book, to toggle airport on and off by inventing a shortcut for it. i think it was something like system preferences>keyboard and mouse>keyboard shortcuts>+. the book said type the command exactly as it appears in the menu bar, so in this case, Turn AirPort On, and then you designate the shortcut, by pressing the desired keys. ive done that and they show up in the top right drop down menu, but when i press the keys the shortcut doesnt work. can anybody think what i am doing wrong?

hi guys, sorry for the late reply. i was looking for the page reference to the book i found the shortcut instructions in. im fairly sure it was from the rough guide to osx, which i bought at an applestore in london about two weeks ago; it is the only osx book i have. it was either from there or from some random website. i guess ill just forget it, i wanted it for battery management, so you can turn the airport on and off to save the battery, and its kind of annoying to keep using the dropdown menu for that.
anyway, thanks alot for taking the time to reply. do you think if anybody wrote to apple about the fact that it might be a bug, they would take any notice?

How to relate ring control with multiple codes

Hello everyone,
I've been searching everywhere without finding answer, please apologize if its already in a post. What I am trying to do is to gather different codes and put them together. These pieces of codes control certain devices and currently I am using different interfaces for each device, so I want to control them in the same interface. I am using a ring recessed menu ring in order to select the appropriate device for the desired application. So, if someone could possibly tell me how to put the ring control to work I would appreciate.

Let me start by ensuring my understanding of your question. You have multiple devices, each which require different code to operate them. You are currently using different programs to control each instrument and would like to combine into one. You want to allow the user to select from a Ring Control which device to use then execute the correct code. Is this correct?
Assuming it is, this is fairly straightforward. Add the labels and values to your Ring Control as well as a GO button to your UIR. Add a callback function to the GO button. In the callback function, add conditional code that executes a different block depending on the selected value of the Ring Control. Let me know if you have questions on this process.
