  • How can I hear the unique text tones assigned to my contacts in iMessage?

I have unique text and ring tones assigned to my contacts in iOS. I've begun to use Yosemite for texting and calling and would like to have the same tones for my contacts alert me from my Macbook Pro.

    Hi,
iChat (the app before it became Messages) and Messages used to do this up until Mavericks and the "real" Messages 8.
Messages 8 in Mavericks did away with the ability to change or set individual Sounds as the Alerts Pane in the preferences went west (was removed).
It was replaced by a setting in the General Section that can only change the Messages Received sound.
There are now Alert and Ringtones stored in a ToneLibrary.framework in the /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
These are also caf files as opposed to the Aiff files that were used before.
there is no linking for the System Sounds (Alerts in System Preferences > Sound > Sound effects tab) or the User's own ~/Library/Sounds.
This and the loss of the Format Menu and the Messages Pane in the Preferences to set Font and Styles and colours for Non iMessages accounts is sorely missed by many people.
Edit to remove a double ss  at the  word as  ( at ... as opposed to...)

  • Can you assign a default ring tone to a single Group (in 1 hit)?

Anyone know if you can assign the same ring tone to all members of a group WITHOUT having to go into each member of the group & do it 1 at a time? Thus you can have different ring tones for each group. You can do this on most other phones out there.

The error is in this line:
    } else if (box 2 > box 1) {
The names of the variables are box2 and box1, without spaces.

  • I just got my iphone 6 today; upgrading from 5s - none of my personalized ring tones are available to assign to contacts as they were before

I upgraded to an iphone 6 today. I had all my contacts attached to a particular ring tone on my 5s; they are all gone. How do I find the ringtones I created from real music over the past few years and re-load and assign them to my contacts?

Unfortunately you have to convert Mp3 to M4r to work now.  Spent 2 hours to figure this out.
    See below !!!
Apple® iTunes® can also be used to convert an MP3 to M4R but the process is a little involved and the directions might be slightly different depending on the version. In general, the imported MP3 must be first converted to the AAC format (which is essentially the same as M4P), then manually renamed from an MP4 to an M4R file.
To use iTunes® to convert an MP3 files to M4R, add the MP3 file to your iTunes® Library.  Right-click on the file once more, and choose "Create ACC version" from the popup menu. (This will only appear if you select under iTunes Preferences > General > Import Settings > Import Using AAC Encoder
    on a MAC:
Now navigate to the folder where iTunes® has saved this file (or Right Click and Show in Finder ).  It should have created 3-4 different versions there.. Mp3, m4a and M4r.  Select the M4r version and drag over to TONES in iTunes...now sync your phone with iTunes
    On a PC
Now navigate to the folder where iTunes® has saved this file (or Right Click and Show in Finder ).  Use the computer’s Search feature to find the file name, or look in the default Music folder, then inside the iTunes® folder. Scroll down until you find the saved file, which will be an M4A file.
Drag the file to the Desktop (a copy will be generated), then go into iTunes® and delete the original file. The Desktop copy will remain.
Return to the Desktop and rename the ringtone file with an M4R extension. If you cannot see file extensions, go to Folder Options (via Control Panel) and under the View tab, uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" and try again. Once the file has been successfully renamed, click on it and iTunes® will import it into the Ringtones folder. Synch your iPhone® to upload the ringer.

    I've had a look @ the 6131's manual here :
    http://nds1.nokia.com/phones/files/guides/Nokia_6131_UG_en.pdf
and it doesn't specifically say that you can choose customised rings tones for specific people (as you can with some phones), but you CAN assign it for groups as shown on page 59.
If the option to assign tones to individual people IS available and is undocumented then you'll find it in one of two places :
    1) As an attribute of a contact - so that's to say if you edit a contact's detail, and the option to assign a custom ringtone is present, then you can add a detail which will be the ringtone which you want to assign.
    2) This is how a N95 works - although your phone will be different - If you select (as in go into not just highlight) a particular contact, press Options, one of the items in the list will be "Ringing Tone" - you can assign it from there (if available)
Hope this helps (and makes sense !)Message Edited by edwardquan on 05-Jul-200709:23 PM

  • How to assign a ring tone to a n97 mini on your co...

    dear everyone
i am having problems assigning a ring tone to my wifes contact can anyone help?

    Hi clarkpostie,
if you select your wife's contact, select options and edit.  scroll down and you should see a detail named 'ringing tone'.  Select this and it should then display the folders you have music in.  From here pick the folder and tune you would like to associate with your wife and select 'done'.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can I assign specific ring tones to certain contacts?

I would like to be able to assign specific ring tones to certain contacts; how do I do this (assuming it can be done)?

My phone has not arrived yet, but I would think you could solve this by doing these things.
Now lets just assume that you have ringtones A - Z
Set the phone to ring all the time with ring A
Then go into your contacts and set each person you know with ringtone B - Z (but you have to do this for each contact IN your phone) and you can't use A because you only want it to ring with that tone when someone you don't know is calling, right?
Then, when your phone rings with a private caller or from some # that is NOT in your contact list, it will ring A because you have assigned all other contacts either B - Z. The only difference would be that if "Joe" was calling from his office and the line out was different than the # you have in his contact, it would also ring tone A.
Of course, if you could download tones, it would be easier, but for now you can't. So, this is the only thing that would possibly work for now.
Did any of that make sense?

  • Every time I sync my iphone 4 with itunes my ring custom ring tones change.  I have 7 custom ring tones in itunes.  One time it will load 1 custom ring tone the next it may be 3 then the next it is one again.  The last time it gave me 4 of the 7.

Every time I sync my iPhone 4 with iTunes the number of my custom ring tones change.  I have 7 custom ring tones listed.   The first time it will load 1 of the ring tones and the next time it will load 3,  The next time it will be back to 1.  If I have assigned one of the custom ring tones and it does not get loaded it goes back to the ring tone that came with the phone.  The last time itunes gave me 4 of the 7 so I have not tried to sync it again.  I am using iTunes 10 (10.4.10), and windows 7.
Has anyone else had this problem??
Any ideas to what I need to do??

Have you ever had all 7 of them synced before? Are these ringtones you made yourself? Is there a chance they could exceed 30 seconds in length? Is there a chance you have moved the original file location on the computer? May need the answers to a couple more questions to try and determine an answer.

  • No new ring tones after updating software on 3gs

I downloaded the 4.2 software for my 3GS. In the software package it's supposed to come with more ring tone options for text messages and the ability to assign personal ringtones to contacts. I can assign personal ringtones but I don't have the new extra ones. I sync both my phone and my boyfriends 3GS from my Mac book pro and neither of our phones have the extra tones. Any suggestions??

    Hi,
Unfortunately us 3GS people don't get the new Text msg tones…
They are only for the iPhone 4

  • How do I use a voice memo as a ring tone or an alert tone?

How do I use a voice memo as a ring tone or an alert tone?

Record your voice using iPhone (for ringtone only 35 secs or under are valid), sync iPhone with iTunes.
In iTunes the recorded voice is listed under Music as some_numbers.m4a.
Right click on the item and choose Create AAC version.
Drag the converted voice onto the desktop.
Delete the voice copy in iTunes. (important step)
On desktop, rename the some_number.m4a to something_more_intelligent.m4r
Drag it back to iTunes and you will find it under Tones.
Now select it (for sync) and connect your iPhone, do a sync.
If everything works out, it will be in Settings > Sounds > Ringtone.
Now choose a contact you want to assign this ringtone, tap Edit and add the ringtone.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi Edy44,
