Ringer rings through speaker when on silent with headset plugged in?

I was in physics today listening to music on my phone and it was on silent and I had my headset plugged in. I use the Apple earphones that came with the phone, I heard it ringing through my earphones, but the. I heard my teacher ask who's phone was ringing, so I took my ear phones out and it was mine ringing. It was honestly really embarrassing. Why did it ring through the speakers when it was on silent with the ear phones plugged in?

No one huh?

Plugging in a headset disables the speaker...nothing you can do to work around that.

  • Ringer going off when in Silent Mode

My ringer is going off at the same volume as my headphones when I am listening to music. I would assume it is supposed to ring in your earphones and not the phone itself. Am I missing something

If the switch is not set to silent, it should ring both on the phone and in the earphones. This is so you won't miss a call if you have a headset plugged into the phone but don't have it in you ears.

  • Iphone rings through speakers when using headphones iOS 7

Merrily sitting on the train checking out the new ringtones etc with headphones on and ringer switch set to silent (iphone 5). Was politely informed by a fellow passenger that he could hear everything!
Pretty sure this didn't happen before the iOS update.

    Try This...
Close All Open Apps...  Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

  • New message sound going through speaker when I con...

I use the latest version of Skype for Mac, and after connecting my bluetooth headset the notification sound still goes through my speakers. Sign in sound and calls instead go through the headset. Is there any hidden setting I need to change? My sound output is set as "Same as System", and the Sound in Preferences is set to go through speakers.

I was about to try your suggestion, but after sending a few more test emails, I discovered that it does in fact play the sound sometimes.  I sent about 20 test emails, and they were all received using the "idle" command, with about 75% of them playing the sound.  There was a 5-10 second delay between the messages being received and the sound playing that I don't remember from Snow Leopard, but I'm not positive about that.
It shouldn't be the actual sound that is the issue, being that it is played sometimes, but I still don't know why it's not playing every time.  I tried receiving messages with the app running in the background, with it minimized, and with it as the active window, but I couldn't find any specific instance that caused it to not play the sound.
I wasn't having this issue in Mail 4.  It didn't start until I installed Lion, which I did a clean install of, if it matters.
I'm still open to thoughts on this, and thank you for your help.

  • Sound only with headset plugged in

Need help. The sound on my computer only works if the headset is plugged in. I have been thru ALL the microphones, none are muted, the device manager, all are working properly. Downloaded the updates, etc. Hopefully, there is just a check mark somewhere that activates the desktop speakers.
Under speakers, when there is music playing you can see the green bars go up and down, but you do not hear anything.

    Hi rar,
Be sure to plug your speakers into the green port on the back of your PC. It's marked #9 in the below image.
Now unplug your headset and see if you have sound.
Be sure that the Realtek HD Sound Manager has detected your speaker connection.  Look at the port indicated by the red arrow. It should be a bright green.
Are you trying to use the speakers in your monitor or are they separate speakers?

  • When bluetooth headset is connected to iphone,I can't hear iphone ringing aloud when I have a call or a text. Do i really have to wear the bluetooth headset all the time in my ear to know when I have a call or a message? Why it doesnt ring through iphone?

when bluetooth headset is connected to iphone,I can't hear iphone ringing aloud when I have a call or a text. Do i really have to wear the bluetooth headset all the time in my ear to know when I have a call or a message? Why it doesnt ring through iphone but it rings through the bluetooth headsets?
In other phones, you can hear the phone ringing and if it was connected to bluetooth, you could pick up the call from the bluetooth headset.
Here with iphone, if its connected to bluetooth headset, it only rings through the headset, which means that if you dont have the headset in the ear all the time, you cannot know that you have an incoming call or message.
Any ideas - solutions - comments please?

I'm having the same problem. I had a plantronics 975 (which I lost, sadly). When connected, the ringer would always be routed through the bluetooth and the iPhone's external speaker. When in silent mode, the iPhone would only vibrate, but I could still hear the ringer in the bluetooth.
I just bought a new Plantronics Voyager+. Now when it's connected, all sounds are routed to the earpiece - including the taps, etc. The iPhone's speaker doesn't ring at all, unless the bluetooth is disconnected or powered off. I'd really like to be able to hear both, like I was before. This is an iPhone 3G running iOS 4 (latest version, not sure what it is exactly). Haven't updated software/firmware in between bluetooths, just changed the earpiece.

  • Help! Why is the Pre's speaker ringing an incoming call when I have a headset on?

    Hi all,
I just had the most embarrassing thing happen to me today.
I was listening to some music on my Pre with the headset (that came with the Pre), and I received an incoming call.
I heard it ring and answered the call, no problem what I thought!
When I got off the phone, my co-worker complained that I had the volume on the Pre too loud. I looked at her and said WTF, I said you heard the phone ring. She said yes!
I then did a test, I exited the music playing, and opened the phone app and make a phone call out. So I made sure that the icon in the phone app showed that I was using the headset.
Then I ended that call, and used a land line and call myself on the Pre.
The Pre rang both in the headset and also the speaker the Pre?
Why is the Pre using the speaker when the phone rings if I'm using a headset?
Isn't the purpose of the headset to provide privacy and keep my neighbors from being disturbed?
I read about the switch turning off the ring but not the music, but this wasn't a case where I needed to use the switch, I had the headphones on.
Why is this happening, is this a bug ... or is there some sort of setting that I don't know about?
    Thanks!
    Rob

  • Can you set ear buds to ring through when you are on a call?

Can you set ear buds to ring through while you are on a call using Iphone 4?

planb77, thanks for your reply. Unfortunately it doesn't really answer my question since my mail is not on a POP server. It's imap, so it's synced with my iPod. I just wondered if there was a way, while preserving the syncing, to opt out of syncing when I delete.
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks again.

  • When I call I can't hear the ringing sound or the other person talking to me unless I have the headset plugged in or when I have it on speaker. Help please !

When I call I can't hear the ringing sound or the other person talking to me unless I have the headset plugged in or when I have it on speaker. Help please !

Mine does this intermittently. Occasionally after dialing the number, I can’t hear anything. I routinely have re-dial and sometimes this does not work either. Sometimes if I close all applications, including the dialer, then restart the dialer, it will work again. Sometimes I have to close all programs and restart the phone. It’s definitely frustrating.

  • Cant hear Siri or any music or typing through speaker but can hear ringer

Cant hear Siri or any music or typing through speaker but can hear ringer

There might be something in the headphone jack, maybe lint, dirt, or something else in there. Try disconnecting the headphones and then adjusting the volume, does it say headphones?
You might be able to get it out by connecting the headphones 5-10x or spraying compressed air into the jack.
If that doesn't do it, try resetting or restoring the iPhone.

  • Can you make a 5s ring over speakers with headphones plugged in?

    Hi,
Does anyone know how you can make an iPhone 5s (on iOS7.0.4) ring over the external speakers when you have the headphones plugged in?  Can't find any options to make the phone that.
Reason being, I leave my headphone plugged in most of the day since do a lot of calls but if the headphones stay plugged (and they are not always in myear)  then I miss calls and SMSs cause it doesn't ring.
    Any thoughts?
    Bob

    Hi,
I assume you are talking about the side switch, which is not set to silent.   And the "Vibrate on Ring"  is off too, under Settings | Sound.  Unless thee is another silent setting I am overlooking. It has never rang through the speaker... just rings in the headphone.

  • IPhone 5s incoming call rings on both headsets and speaker while headsets plugged in

Why my iphone 5s rings on both speaker and headsets in incoming call, while the headsets plugged in the phone?

    Hi Lucasethio,
That is expected behavior on a non-muted iPhone. If you mute/silence the ringer with the side switch, you should still hear the ringer through any plugged in headsets as well. You may also find the following article helpful:
