Ringer volume on screen always

My ringer volume display won't disappear from the screen

Hi @mentonebob,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you would like to turn the ringer on your HP Photosmart Premium Fax - C309a printer off. I am happy to help you with this issue!
To turn the ringer off, on the printer's control panel, touch the wrench button for Setup, then look for Basic Fax Setup, then look until you see Fax Sound Volume, then select Off.
Hope this is what you are looking for and have a wonderful day!

  • IPhone 4s iOS 6 intermittent screen dims and Ringer volume notification

Seem I am getting intermittent problems which look to be increasing in frequency.
One problem is the screen dimming as though I have turned the screen brightness down to minimum, with no apparent reason.
I've checked the brightness setting and it is set to my usual screen brightness, auto brightness is always off. Touching the screen or home button does nothing and switching apps has no effect either. No particular app is being used at the time so can't pin it down to a buggy app causing it.  The only way to restore the brightness is to switch off the phone via the power button.
A similar problem is the dark grey square containing the ringer volume setting, set to the minimum one square appearing without touching the volume buttons. This stays on screen in a similar way to the screen dimming in that. Nothing apart from powering the phone off will remove it.
Also having problems with reduce volume button, could this be the cause of all these problems? This problem is when I'm reducing the volume it actually increases it to the maximum first before reducing it. Again it is intermittent.
Any one with same or similar issues?

    Sorry for delay in reply.
I've done the above but to no effect this is still happening.
    It is intermittent.

  • IPhone ringer volume always displayed?

My iPhone 4S has been constantly displaying the ringer volume since this morning. I have tried turning off my phone and turning it back on, resetting my phone, syncing it to iTunes, and pretty much everything else. Everything is functioning correctly, and I'm able to navigate my phone normally, but it's an inconvenience to have to try to look at the things on my screen through the ringer volume notification. Help?

Clean the headphone jack port at top of iPhone. Carefully blow it out, insert headphones few times, clean it carefully.

  • PSA: in iOS 7.1.1, alert sounds are tied to your media/game volume and not to your ringer volume

I was befuddled by this for a long time.
Alert sounds would just stop making noise.  This includes dings from txt messages and new mail.
If I went to Settings>Sounds>Text Tone and select several options, all I would get were vibrations.
I rebooted the phone and toggled the silence switch on and off.
I finally figured out that if I started a game and turned the volume up, the noises would come back.
I think it is reasonable for a user to wish to play a game on mute but still hear alert messages.
I think if we can only have two separate systems for audio control, the alert sounds should be tied to the ringer, not to the media/game sounds.
When I spoke to an apple support person over online chat, they seemed to agree that this sounds like a bug.
I have seen many confused posts in these forums regarding alert sounds suddenly disappearing.
Below is the text that I submitted at http://www.apple.com/feedback/
If you share this problem, I suggest you do the same.
    My case number is 606343836
    Begin message:
I've had a 5S since a few weeks after launch and this problem has only come about in the last few weeks, so I suspect it has to do with a recent OS patch.
Sometimes my alert messages just stop working.  They seem to work one minute, then they stop.  Alert messages would include email notifications and txt message pings.  When they are not working, I can go into Settings>Sounds>Text Tone, and all of the options will simply result in a vibration and no sound.
Rebooting the phone does not fix the problem.
What I have found to fix the problem is to open a game and raise the volume of the game.  Then when I exit the game, alert messages start again.
This seems reversible, if I go back in and mute a game, my alert messages go away as well.
If this is by design, I do not think it should be, as I think it is reasonable for a user to want to control the "media" part of the volume separately from the "ringer" and "alerts" part of the volume. It makes sense to want play a game or video on mute but still get alert messages. If anything, I think the alerts volume should be tied to the ringer volume, I think that would make sense.

Additional info, which makes me think this is a bug rather than a feature.  If you go into Settings > Sounds and turn off the "Change with Buttons" option, then the ringer should always ring at the volume of the slider on the screen.
The volume buttons now appear to only affect the media/games volume, and it works as expected EXCEPT:
if you are in a game and you mute the volume in the game, then exit the game, all alert sounds are muted and you can't turn them back up by raising the volume with the volume buttons.
If you go back into the game and raise the volume within the game, then exit the game, then alert sounds do turn back on.
I have tested this with two games from two developers.

  • 1020 There is no lock for ringer volume level, but...

Earlier today I posted in this Community regarding the Subject issue. Received good reply and marked it as a Solution. Had additional thoughts so I'm doing this new Post. Same Subject as before. I had asked if it's possible to LOCK the ring volume, at 10 for example, it's loudest, so I can hear it ring no matter what. I've been unpleasently surprised several times when my ringer rings BUT the volume is much much lower, way too low (2 or 3 maybe), way lower from where I had set it, up at (10). So then, I immediately adjust the volume back to 10, where I want it to stay, always. The volume up and down rocker button works fine. Problem is, the unexpexted, surprising and unwanted way very low ringer volume that causes me to MISS SOME CALLS. I have four kids. As a parent, missing calls can be a SERIOUS matter. If I could LOCK my ringer volume at 10 then I'll be happier. For me, thr parent, this tricky too low ringer volume problem is more than an annoying tech glich. What causes this problem, you may ask? The volume goes down without wanting it to do that because that while the phone is unlocked and in any kind of use or even while it is in screen lock mode, the very handling of the phone will sometimes unintendedly, unknowingly, without noticing it, press the down volume part of the volume rocker buttom. After all, the down volume part of the rocker button is the located at the lower end of that rocker and is closer to the center of the phone and close to the power button. That's right where anybody normally holds and works the phone, right there. AND worse yet, it takes only a little bit of pressure to accidently push the down volume rocker button. No wonder the down volume button unwillingly gets pressed alot. Also, unwanted down volume change, by pressing of the volume button, can happen in many ways such as in a pocket, carrying it in your hand, passing the phone around, lots of ways. This unwanted down volume change can and does happen on the 1020 while calling, texting, using apps and even during the screen lock mode, and that is with or without the pass code feature enabled. Only time this can't happen is when the phone is completely off and dark. I've searched the posts and don't find anyone else saying this. That doesn't mean it's not a real problem, like for us parents and others. But I know that what I say is correct, to my knowledge, because today an MS WP Community Moderator and also a Lumina Community contributor agreed with what I'm experiencing. This problem has always happened with my 1020 and my previous 920 always did exactly the same type of low volume TRICK. No updates are causing this problem along the way. It's just now that I got fed up enough to confirm within the Communities that there is NO WAY TO LOCK THE RINGER VOLUME on the 1020. I'm ranting about it to you fellow Lumina users. If you experience this, if it bugs you, if you agree that it's more than a mere tech glich nuisance, that it's causing missed calls for family and business, then please post in on this Lumina Community and demand a fix for it. I'm not a phone software expert but I'll bet that a minor software tweek followed by an update, is easily possible. This fix SHOULD be good for existing Lumina models, not just for future ones. I'm gonna work this. It can happen more surely and quickly if those Lumina users who share my concern will post about it. This post is not a critique nor does it infer defects in software or phones. I just want to peel a layer off this onion.

As far as the phone is locked, the volume key will not function .. so this should not affect the volume level.

  • [iOS 7] Alerts and typing played in earphones at ringer volume

Hello all, ever since upgrading to iOS 7 yesterday I've noticed an annoying ear-drum bursting audio bug; now whenever a video or music is not playing on your iPhone alerts and typing (the tap-tap noise) come through my earbuds at ringer volume, which I usually set much higher than volume/headset volume so I can hear my phone in noisy situations. I usually set my headphone volume low to preserve my hearing, but now I can hear typing with my earbuds sitting on my desk.
The clincher is that this still happens even when I turn my earbuds all the way down; even when my earbuds are muted I can still hear typing and alerts at whatever volume the ringer is set to. This happens without earbuds too; muting the iPhone's internal speaker will not mute typing. (Alerts I would expect to play at full volume without earbuds connected, and they seem to do so.)
If anybody has a work-around for this that would be incredibly nice, it would be nice to be able to have my earbuds in to listen to stuff other than music. I'm fairly sure that iOS 6 did not have the same behavior. (e.g. typing is a sound effect and not an alert, and headphones use the same volume for alerts, music and effects.)

Additional info, which makes me think this is a bug rather than a feature.  If you go into Settings > Sounds and turn off the "Change with Buttons" option, then the ringer should always ring at the volume of the slider on the screen.

Does nokia has quality assurance guys???
    Firmware: 20.149.051.1
    Nokia n78, n79

Hi there, thankyou for your report on the bugs, here is my response (I too have updated to the latest v20.149 firmware):
    1.  this streaming internet radio feature has been removed since firmware 12.046 and has not appeared since. i believe, along with many other users here, that this is due to copyright issues, so by deactivating streaming of internet radio they are complying with appropriate copyright controls. it would be nice to stream internet radio through the FM transmitter but this probably will not come back
    2.  I found the same thing, i really do wish that it would stream all sounds from the phone, especially from the Maps application because the speaker is tinny. so maybe they can do something about this in subsequent firmware updates.
    3.  I find that the FM transmission power is variable, and not has increased/decreased with firmware updates. this is due to many factors, for example, it is summer here in Australia, and i have found that on really hot & hot and humid days that the FM transmitter struggles to send an adequate signal. hgowever, on cooler days the signal is strong and works well. I have tried this on both my car and standalone stereo in my home.
I hope these help you shed  a bit more light on the issues, but I am as always holding out for the v30 firmware very soon

Can anyone shed some light as to why it's not possible to adjust the ringer volume at the lock screen? Even though it's possible to adjust the volume during music playback and responses from Siri, etc.
Cannot answer that question. That is a decision made by Apple.

If there was a profile app available in the app store that allowed me to automatically set different volume levels at different times of the day it would be great - particularly if the app didn't require me to jailbreak the phone.
There would not be an app like that, as they would not have access to the API. You can provide feedback to Apple if you would like to see this enhancement at http://www.apple.com/feedback and click on the appropriate link.

  • Is there a way to adjust your ringer volume while the iphone is locked? [iOS 7] - as you could in iOS 6?

In iOS 6, when the phone was locked, the user could slide to the emergency call screen then adjust the phone's ringer volume (up or down) by pressing the side volume buttons. I tried to perform the same action in iOS 7 with my 4S and have not been able to figure it out.. has anyone played around with it enough to find the solution? Is there one?

It doens't. Music volume on Full, headphone volume on full, ringer volume on full, speaker volume on really really quiet.

  • Can the ring volume be set without the system volume

I hope this isn't too daft but is it possible to set the ring volume separately from the system volume? I need to run my iPhone very quietly but do not want to miss incoming calls!
    Cheers

Your volume switches work differently depending on what you are doing. You may get a readout above the "speaker" symbol that appears on the screen telling you what volume is being adjusted.
If you are not using anything, the volume switches adjust the ringer volume.
If you are playing music or video, they adjust the music/video volume.
If your headphones are plugged in, they adjust the headset volume.
If you are actually on a call, they adjust the earpiece volume or speakerphone volume, whichever you are using (without a readout).
If you are on a phone call using bluetooth, they adjust the bluetooth volume.

  • Seperate music and ringer volume please!!!

Seriously, I don't want the volume high when listening to music, want to preserve my ear drums, you know?!
But then, I keep missing calls because the phone rings so silently...because I have volume set to low when I was listening to music!
The two seriously have to be seperated, sort it out Apple!

They are separate. Your volume switches work differently depending on what you are doing. You may get a readout above the "speaker" symbol that appears on the screen telling you what volume is being adjusted.
If you are not using anything, the volume switches adjust the ringer volume.
If you are playing music or video, they adjust the music/video volume.

  • 6230i ringing volume, display blinking

I have a 6230i what was updated from 3.30 to 3.40, but I still have the problems.
First, my phone changes the ringing volume spontaneously. It's very disappointing because sometimes I can't hear when somebody call me.
I always use the Outdoor profile where ringing volume is set to level 4.
Second, the display spontaneously starts to light.
Is there a newer software release which can solve this problem or do you have any idea?

It sounds like the ridiculous feature that Nokia have introduced that makes the phone volume ascend instead of just being loud! Even though there is an option for it, it does it anyway. I have written to complain about the 'feature'Message Edited by karim on 21-Feb-2006

  • Speaker phone volume vs Ring volume

The ring volume is always able to go very loud..why can't the speaker phone volume do that same?

Its a function of the size of the speaker - turn it up much higher and the cone will break. The speaker is about 1mm across - its not a ghettoblaster and in a quiet room, its very audible.
