Ringtone Assignment

Hi, I am trying to assign a song as my ringtone. In the process, using I-tunes, I need to right-click the song, click Get Info>Options and then tick the Start and Stop boxes to set the timing of the ringtone. I can't tick these boxes, nor can I tick any box past the Get Info. Can anyone help me please? Thx

    Hi leerod,
I like to assign contact-specific ringtones as well, so I know who's calling. I would like to ask if you have all the numbers listed for each contact listed in the same spot? For example, are all the numbers for each person listed in their contact (home, work, etc.)? Are there any "1's" included in the listing of their contact? If so, please remove the "1."
I would also like to ask when this started? Is it a new issue?
Here's a link to the Pantech Breakout's manual and simulator, for you and other owners of this device. http://bit.ly/J1ypDC
Please post back with your results. Thanks!

Your only chance is setting it up as new device without using the latest backup afterwards, which you already did.
If this does not work, you should get it serviced:

  • 3GS Only plays Ringtone Assigned in General Settings

Wife and I both have the new 3GS. Hers works perfectly, playing whatever ringtone is assigned to a contact. Mine only plays the ringtone assigned under 'General Settings', no matter what tone is assigned to a contact. I've tried 'Reset All Settings' and the reboot (holding power key and main button together) as suggested in the forums. Any other ideas? I have not downloaded any custom ringtones. We're just using the one's provided in the phone. Thanks.

I'd go thru every setup screen of the phones and compare them.
If no differences, do a Restore of the one giving you trouble.

  • Ringtone Assignment with Purchased Song

How do I assign a ringtone to a person in my contact list with a recently purchased song?

you'll need to convert the song into a ringtone first take a look at the link
    http://www.ehow.com/how_2160460_custom-iphone-ringtones-free.html
once the tone is on your phone, then go to the contact click edit then scroll to ringtone then add desired tone.

  • I assigned specific custom ringtones to specific contacts on my iPhone 4. When I sync my new iPhone 5, will those contacts automatically still have those ringtones assigned to them, or will I have to go into each contact and manually reassign them again?

Just wondering if it's possible to sync iPhone 5 in a way that automatically keeps my contacts from my iPhone 4 with the same custom ringtones. Or will I have to re-assign them all manually?

You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup.  If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup.  You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone.  However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.

  • Ringtone Assigning

I have had issues with my phone D2G assigning ringtones. I mean I can assign ringtones, but it plays them at random. So if my wife calls my daughters ringtone plays, my dad calls and my wife’s ringtone plays. I have heard that it is a known problem with the D2G.
Is that true or am I doing something wrong?

Fad3C, thanks for your inquiry. I know that can be an irritating issue for the wrong ringtones to play for your contacts. I checked and I am not showing this as a known issue for this device. One thing I would suggest if you haven't already, is to change the ringtones to the default ringtone and then back to your custom ringtone. Then reboot the phone. Another thing you can try is to clear cache/data from the Contacts application. This will not erase the contacts as they are backed up to either Google or Backup Assistant and you are not erasing the Contact Storage.
Let us know if you need further assistance.

  • Assigned ringtones with image doesnt work together...

hello, could someone help on my new nokia 5800, while using the image (stored n tranferred frm pc by reducing the required size) I cant hear the spl ringtone assigned to the same contact. Though if i use nokia inbuilt images (came with the set) or dont use any image, I can hear the spl ringtone assigned to the contact as well as the image.
    cheers!!

Problem solved. I got my 5800xm six days ago and just figured the problem with my ring tones. Its very easy just go to your contacts and set the numbers as they appear when someone calls you I am from Trinidad but in my contacts I had the numbers starting with *31# and then the persons number because in Trinidad with bmobile if you block your phone's number  from the settings you can just use *31# in front the persons number & it will show. My wife just called me and the ringtone played so I wondered how come so I checked the number & notice it was the same work # she called me from yesterday and I saved it not having time to put *31# in front of it .In my contacts I had the number but with *31# in front of it for eg I had in my contacts *31#7566766 the # I save was the same but it appeared on my phone as 8687566766 and thats how I solved the problem It's just your Country code in front the numbers in the contacts so now I put *31#8687566766 and it works with no problems (In Trinidad our country code is 868). Or if not just put the numbers you see when someone calls you its that easy.

  • Why wont assigned ringtones work after downloading the newest OS on iPhone 4

I have had ringtones assigned to my contacts and they no longer work after I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 5. It plays the default ringtone Marimba rather than playing the ringtone file assigned. I've tried reassigning them and it doesn't work.

Deselect in iTunes, sync. When finished, select tones and sync again.

  • Search for assigned ringtones in phone content (co...

    Hi,
It is common knowledge that if the same ringtone is assigned to more than one contact, then none of them play the assigned ringtone - rather fall back to a default tone.
I have N97 and like everyone I assign different ringtones to diff contacts - occasionally changing them when one tone gets boring from prolonged use.
With many contacts and many ringtones sometimes it becomes difficult to remember which ringtone has been assigned to whom - duplicates occur and become difficult to trace.
In my previous N73 M(s60v3) I had a app called "mobilesearch" which among other functions, could search the phone content and find ringtones assigned to contacts - the search result would display the contact name and the ringtone assigned to it - but the built in search app in N97 is unable to do this.
I have to open each contact individually > go to details > scroll down to ringtone details - to locate the ringtone assigned.
Can anyone suggest me to do this in a more easy & efficient way - or can tell me if there is any application available for s60v5 touch phone - like the "mobilesearch" I had mentioned.
    Please!

I know more about portal search than about content server, but I believe CS indexes items only when they are published to a portlet. I'm not sure if there is any way to change this behavior. Perhaps you could publish the items to a portlet that isn't displayed?

  • Default Nokia ringtone instead of assigned one

    Hi,
I am getting this more and more often. I have a ringtone assignes for alla calls and users. But often it uses the default Nokia ringtone, leaving me confused and not knpwing that it is actually my phone tha is ringing
Any ideas og solutions about this?
    Cheers...

Many users have reported having this problem.  It's nothing to do with selecting alternative (non Nokia-supplied) tracks or having them stored on mass storage.  It happened to me a couple times and I am using one of the Nokia supplied tunes that are stored in the phone memory.

  • Dumb question:  How do I assign a ringtone?

I've chosen one main ringtone, and before I updated and restored my phone I had another ringtone assigned to my boyfriend, but I don't remember how I did that. How's it done?

Got it. I was choosing his name from favorites, when I needed to choose it from "contacts." Nevermind.

  • Short ringtones only ring twice when assigned to contact.

This is my third iPhone 3GS. When I assign a short ringtone to a contact such as Robot, Old Car Horn etc, the phone whether it is in standby or not will only ring twice then continue to vibrate for the remainder of the call. Phone works perfectly with longer ringtones assigned. This happens the majority of the time 80%.. So if your trying this at home dont try once or twice.
I have spoken to Apple and have done the following to resolve the issue.
    Reset
Restored with and without sim inserted.
    Changed Sim
I was using Vista 64bit thinking this could be the problem as my girlfriend has the same problem but now on XP Pro 32bit and restored with no luck.
    Talk to me lol

You can try a quick fix. Open up Garageband and lengthen your ringtones to 30 seconds and then try again. This should solve your problem. It solved mine!

  • Ringtones on 4S keep changing

New Verizon iPhone 4S user here. Like the phone so far but with a few minor changes it would be perfect.
If I assign a ringtone to my wife and then resync the phone to add new contacts, calendar events, etc., the ringtone assignment gets switched back to the default. I do not want to set up the ringtones on my phone only to have them lost the next time I sync.
I have reviewed many of the posts here but most of them seem to be before OS5 was released. Many mentioned the Ringtone Designed app but I already have my ringtone created and on the phone--I just want to "set it and forget it."
Is this too much to ask? Has someone figured out a way to fix this problem?

You have to do it through iTunes (sync the ringtones) because in order for the iPhone to recognize it as a ringtone versus just a music file it has to be properly converted. If you use a ringtone app to make your tone it has to be synced to iTunes so that it is converted to the correct format (.m4r). Then it gets synced back to your iPhone and is placed in the sounds category (and in iTunes on your computer it will show in the ringtones folder versus in the music). The method may seem daunting but it is not difficult and it does not take long. I know many have become accustomed to the "I want it now and I want it without any extra steps" way of doing things...nothing wrong with that at all, but it really wasn't that long ago that the concept of making your own ringtones for free was impossible or it required a whole lot of difficult actions to make it work. Unfortunately (or fortunately for those that don't mind it), if you want to own an iPhone you're forced to follow a pre-defined method to do some of the things you may want. I'm not saying that it's the way that it should or shouldn't be...but until further notice it is the way that it is. But honestly, either method that you use (making your own solely using iTunes to do it or using a ringtone app to help you out) will get you the results that you want...a free ringtone from any song of your choosing. Unless you make and want to add ringtones on a  daily basis then chances are you won't have to actually do this act on a time consuming basis. You can make a ton of apps at one time and sync them...and later if you decide you want to update your ringtone options you can do so relatively quickly. Either way, I hope the link helped you out...if you still can't get it to work then maybe someone else can offer suggestions.

  • Custom Ringtones

I'm having an issue with my custom ringtones assigned to my contacts.  The custom ringtone does not work when the contact that I have assigned the custom ringtone calls.  I get the general ringtone that I use for all other calls.  I have tried deleting the contact and reentering it and assigning the custom ringtone again but still nothing.  I have even tried pulling the battery out after entering in the contact and custom ringtone but still nothing.  I don't have caller ID from my wireless carrier, Rogers, but I was told I don't need it to make the custom ringtones work.  I even called Rogers but they were no help.  Can someone pleas give me some advice on how to fix this issue?
    Thanks

You may have an issue with your Sounds/Profiles database. Try clearing it and setting up all notifications again manually then testing the custom ringtones again. http://bbry.lv/lsuQXK

  • How to use songs for ringtones like prior to ios7?

Prior to the iOS7 upgrade, I had 'custom' ringtones assigned to my contacts.  The custom tones were ringtones that I created.  When I upgraded, those were all removed from my contacts.  I can't figure out how to get them back.  I have verified that my ringtone files are still on my iphone..but I just can't figure out how to access them.  The only option is to use the apple provided ringtones or buy them via the store.
    Any ideas?

    Hello gawoodruffs
I would recommend re-syncing your iPhone with iTunes. Ensure that they are on there. Then they should all be grouped towards the top by the Buy Ringtones and Default ringtone area.
