Ringtones for contacts
Please help me - I am not able to find a way to assign different ringtones to certain contacts.
Go to your contact.
Then Edit.
Scroll down to "Additional Info" and click the arrow to the right.
Scroll down farther until you get to "call handling".
(taken from Jaimie here)
For text messages, you can download the app called Ringo Lite. You can assign text messages a ringtone

How to set songs from music as ringtones for contacts
How do I set songs from my music that is on the phone as ringtones for different contacts?
Songs and ringtones have different formats. They are not interchangeable. You would have to convert a song into a ringtone.
If you have a Mac, you could use the GarageBand app to do that. If you have a PC, there are apps to do the conversion, but I cannot name one. -

IPhone 4: Setting different ringtones for contacts not working.
I can't add personal ringtones for each contact. I have followed all contact editing info to the letter, yet I still only get the same one ringtone for each contact (the default ringtone I set for the phone). Setting different ringtones for text messages works fine, but not for telephone contacts. Is this feature broken? Is anyone else having this issue? Thanks.
It happened to me also when I first added specific ringtones to contacts, but just turning the phone off/on fixed it for me. You can try a reset also if that doesn't work (hold down the home and sleep/wake buttons at the same time until the Apple logo comes up)

What's the process for assigning a specific ringtone to a contact? Cant figure it out with the Droid3
Hi GoatGirl3!
You sure can assign a specific ringtone for a contact. You would simply press the Contacts icon, find the person you want to assign it to, then under "Ringtone" you will be able to choose one for that person.
I hope this helps!

What happened to individual ringtones for contacts?
Lost mine in one of the recent upgrades. Is there a way to get them back?
My phone continiously loses the ringtones that I set for some of my contacts. It goes to default ringtone from these in the phone. I change it back to my ringtone melody for this contact, but it does not save it. Please propose some solutions, because it is really annoying. Thank you

Trying to change ringtones for contacts but still goes to default ringtone
Hello,
I have been trying for a frustrated 6 hours to try and get this to work.
I am trying to change a contact ringtone to something other than the default tone. I have gone into the contact and changed it manually from there and still no luck. It shows that it is changed but when I get a call from that contact it plays the default phone ringtone. I have tried everything from a soft reset, to a hard boot to even restoring all my default settings and still no change!
If anyone can help me out it would very much appreciated.
Thanks!
AmyMake sure you do not have duplicate entries in multiple groups. Changing the entry in one group does not change it in the other groups. I had duplicate entries in my Google Contacts group & the 'All on My iPhone' group. I would change the entry in the Google Contacts group and not the 'All on My iPhone' group & when the call came in, the setting in the 'All...' group was used, even tho' I didn't have it selected to be displayed. I ended up deleting the 'All..' entries and also deselecting the Sync Contacts setting in iTunes under the Info tab.

Mute and special ringtones for contact
Just switched from years of using a BBerry to the new I phone 4S. One feature i cannot duplicate, is when i go to sleep and put my phone on silent, it silences all the special contact ringtones which i use to identify my family calling. Withh BB even on silent, the special ringtones will override the silent mode and the phone rings. How do you do this on the i phone? Thank you.

You can't, such is not a feature of the iPhone. Suggest such to apple here:

Can I use my music in iTunes as ringtones for certain contacts?
I have the iphone5 and I can't see where I can use my iTunes music as ringtones for contacts. Is this possible or do I need to get an app to do that? Also does anyone know of a good ringtone app that you can use your music from iTunes? I already downloaded a ringtone maker but I have the new iTunes and I could not get it to work!! Thanks...
1. In your Music library, select a song you want to convert to ringtone
2. Right-click on the song and select “Get Info” to view the song properties.
3. Select “Options” tab. Fill in the “Start time” and “Stop time” to extract the portion of song you want to create as ringtone. From what I know, the length of custom ringtone should not be longer than 40 seconds. Otherwise, iTunes will not recognize it as a ringtone. When you are ready, click “OK” to confirm.
4.Next, right-click on the song and select “Create ACC Version”.
5. iTunes then automatically extracts the portion of song you have instructed in the previous step. The new song file is just 40-sec in length. This is the song file you’ll work on from step 6 and onwards.
6. Next, right-click on the song and select “Show in Finder”. This opens up Finder and locate the song file you just created.
Note: For Windows user, you should choose “Show in Windows Explorer” instead.
7. As you can reveal from Finder, the song file is in .m4a extension and we’ll change it to “.m4r”, which is the file extension for tones. Rename the file extension from “.m4a” to “.m4r”. For Mac users, select “Use .m4r” when prompted.
8. Go back to iTunes. Right-click on the song you have created (i.e. the 40 sec version) and select “Delete” to delete the song.Click “Delete Song” to confirm the deletion and then click “Keep File” when you?re prompted. This tells iTunes to delete the song (the 40 sec version) from music library and keep the actual file.
9.
Go back to Finder and double-click on the ringtone file (.m4r) you have just renamed.
11. The ringtone will automatically add it to the “Tones” library in iTunes. You can now sync it to iPhone as a ringtone or text tone. Enjoy! -
Can't change ringtone for a specific caller.
What happened is that I was able to do this some days ago, BEFORE I transfered more or less 1000songs to my N95. SO now when I chose to change a ringtone for a specific person I just get 2 options " download ringtone and default ". I can't even see the standard Nokia ringtones.
What bothers me is that it seems that the problem is that I have so many songs on my phone that it can not show a list of all of them, so it choses not to.
I can't even change a ringtone for a Profile by using the profile options, I need to go to the songfile itself and chose " set as ringtone ".
Anyone else have this problem.
I will have to add that I didn't transfer the songs to the normal " sounds - digital sounds " fodler but a custom one called "mp3", but that shouldn't b a problem since the phone finds the songs when I play them...!!
IF this is a problem with the SW, how can I send a bug report to the nokia SW programmers so they can fix this?!I take it you have the latest firmware (v20.0.015). It could be the large number of songs is causing the problem. I have exactly 51 songs and it lets me define separate ringtones for contacts.
As a last resort, maybe you should reinstall your firmware. But only if you really, really want this separate ringtone thing, otherwise it's a waste of time.
