Rip a single angle from dual-angle DVD

I am trying to rip a single angle from a dual angle DVD we have produced. I don't want to transcode the footage, but rather just demux it to the two original elementary streams. I have tried using MPEGStreamclip, but it seems to interleave the two angles in the resulting MPEG. Anyone have any tricks to demuxing just a certain angle?

Hi
+1) I will get the most compression (lowest quality) if I burn it on a single layer DVD because there is less space available.+
Not surely so. iDVD doesn't care about GBs at all - only movie duration time
(including time for iDVD menues)
iDVD 8 and 9 has three levels of qualities iDVD 6 has the two last ones
for Single layer DVDs (DL - about double the time)
• Professional Quality (movies up to 120 min.) - BEST
• Best Performances (movies less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
• High Quality (in iDVD08) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
So If Your movie is less than 120 minutes and You use a very simple menu eg "Brushed
Metal" no animation or audio.
Then I doubt that You'll get any better quality with DL-DVDs
+2) If i use a dual layer DVD, the compression should be better because of the additional space.+
Not if Your movie is less than 120 minutes. iDVD doesn't optimize after space.
(Roxio Toast™ can do this as I understands it)
+3) If i use a blu ray DVD and burner, I can create the least compression, possibly none (if I can reduce movie to 40gb from 41), therefore best quality (yes, I know it will only play on blu ray players).+
No version of iDVD can address any Blue-Ray DVD burner AT ALL.
(Roxio Toast™ can do this)
Hopefully being of any help Yours Bengt W

  • Single Layer or Dual Layer DVD?

    Hi,
I just made a DVD for a client who now wants to make a small number of copies using a third party software.
They've asked me if they should order single layer or dual layer DVDs? I think the answer is single layer, but I want to make sure.
When I made the DVD, I set the size at 4.7 GB, although I only used up 3.21 GB.
That means I should tell them to order single layer, right?
    Thanks
    Carolyn

I would also urge them to order Falcon Pro, Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden blank media.
    Good luck,

  • How to generate multiple records on a single sql from dual table

I wanted to generate ten sequence nos in a single sql statement from dual table.
Is there any way to use that.
I think somebody can help me on this by using level clause

I'm not 100% sure if I understand your requirement: Do you really want to use an Oracle Sequence, as Alex already demonstrated?
    Or just a 'one-time-bunch-of-sequential-numbers'.
In the latter case you can just select level:
    SQL> select level
      2  from   dual
      3  connect by level <= 10;
         LEVEL
             1
             2

  • Is it possible to install a single component from the install dvd?

My install went very well, however the only problem is that the colorsync utility will  not launch. I would rather not do a complete reinstall of the entire system... ( particularly because of my shrinking HD). Can I do this?
    Thanks in advance, Carl

Carl, you could try a couple things that may solve your problem.
    1) Run "Repair Disk Permissions" using Disk Utility which is found in your UTILITIES folder inside your Application folder.
    2) Startup your computer holding down the SHIFT key. Wait for the computer to startup completely, then restart again.
    3) Find your ColorSync preferences and trash them. Perhaps a corrupt preference file is not allowing you to launch the app.
    Good luck!

  • "illegal angle situation" on single angle project

i'm trying to build and burn a DVD made from a TV broadcast, which only has a single angle. when i view it in the inspector i get the warning "illegal angle situation", and when i try to build i get a "track 1: missing marker for angle situation" error.
unless i have done something by accident there should only be one angle. i have only one track, though the track is made up of two mpeg files, one immediately after the other (different tv programmes).
please could someone let me know how i can fix this problem ? i'm resisting starting over again because i spent a couple of hours inserting chapter markers. (as far as i know there is no way to export these markers from Studio Pro ...)
any help or advice much appreciated. thanks !

    alex
thanks very much for your response - after magnifying the timeline i discovered a short clip on the V2 track at the same point i joined two assets on V1 - it must have gotten there by accident and i couldn't see it on the normal view of the track editor. now it's been deleted all seems well.
    many thanks,

  • Problem creating mixed angle DVD

When importing the 2nd angle track I get the message :
The Video Asset angle.m2v is only usable up to 00:00:1;00. Use the first part of the asset anyway
I have the DVD SP training book and I know what the message means. However in comprossor I can clearly see I have no markers set and I am using the same closed GOP settings for both angles. Any thoughts besides going to CBR? I have a 2 hour movie that I just want to add some short angle segments for and I don't want to do CBR on the long movie. Thanks.

    Hi Craig
    Welcome to the forum.
I had a similar problem with a mixed angle DVD and it turned out to be a corrupted chapter marker in the track. I basically had to find it by trial and error, deleting half the markers and trying a build, if it worked I'd go back to the other half and delete half again, etc until I found it. In the end, after deleting the marker and replacing it I found that the build would always fail if the marker was placed at that particular GOP boundary - one boundary either side was fine but I'd get the muxer error every time if I tried to put it at that specific point.
If that doesn't work for you another thing I would suggest is to re-encode your footage from self contained movies of your tracks and don't use compression markers. Edit points out of FCP and compression markers force I-frames in the mpeg to give you a better quality cut in the mpeg. If the I-frames from one stream don't match up properly with the I-frames of another (you can have i-frames within a GOP but only I-frames can form the GOP boundaries) you could be getting GOP boundary mismatch error which isn't being picked up before the build - Internal Muxer Error covers a wide range of problems and isn't particularly descriptive.
    Hope some of this helps.
    Good luck

  • Extracting a single image from a DVD

I would like to know if Final Cut Pro or any of iMac programs have the factility to extract a single image (frame) from a playing DVD. If yes, once the image is captured into a Jpeg or Tiff, what is the best way to increase it's resolution good enough for lay into a book for printing. Or perhaps you know of any professional and high resolution programs that capture still images (frames) from a DVD. Thanks

Seems a bit of a waste to have to capture a movie clip in order to get a still picture.
This page has some suggestions: http://www.tuaw.com/2007/04/16/take-full-screen-dvd-snapshots/

  • Changing from Dual Core to Single core

If you ever need to change from dual to single core you just have to call Apple Technical Support to learn how to do it. Some third party software vendors software dos not support multi-threading. So it sometimes causes a kernel panic which unexpectedly quits the program.

    ComputerGenius,
the easiest way: download and install the developer tools. These contain a preference pain called "Processors". With that one you can deactivate processors/cores individually.

  • Multi-angle dvd just not working out... do you have any tips?

I am making a multi angle dvd with DVDSP and compressor. I have 2 video streams that are encoded at 4.0Mbps and with AC3 audio encoded at 192Kbps. The video looks 'ok' and I want to be able to switch between these 'angles' during the movie.
The video is broken up into 5 parts of 6min each. Which are all assembled in the Track1 consecutively with the AC3 audio, then the 2nd angle video (which is also in 5 parts) is added as the angle 2 sub-track.
There is a Track2 with the exact same video, but without the switchable angles and encoded higher at 6.8Mbps (preset 60min HQ) on this same disc.
With menus, the entire size of the disc is 4.1Gb
Everytime I build this dvd, it errors out with the "Video Bitrate Too High" problem. I have dropped the AC3 audio down quite a bit as well.
I can encode everything all over again using a higher compression, but there is tons of movement in my video, and it is already starting to get blocky at 4.0Mbps.
Is there another way? Am I missing something here in making a multi angle disc? I've rented videos where there are 2-3 angles that are switchable, and they look awesome. Surely, some one can share tips in making great multi-angle discs. TIA.

    Hi There
I have created a mixed angle DVD that went to replication successfully but getting the mpegs right was very difficult. In the end I had to re-install DVDSP3 onto my system for two reasons 1) The only way my mpegs would work was if they were created thru Quicktime Mpeg Exporter which DVDSP4 removes, and 2) after I got it all working in DVDSP3 then tried to rebuild it in 4 it would not recognise my V2 or V3 angles - I didn't get any errors and it muxed ver quickly but only V1 was present. I have not been able to create a multi angle disc in DVDSP4 SD, even with mpegs that build successfully in 3.
The problem with all of Apple's encoders except QT Mpeg Exporter is that they create the occassional bitrate spike in both CBR and VBR, which will blow your encoding everytime in a mixed/multi angle project.
That said - here's how I exported my mpegs.
I made a QT movie of the complete V1 track (no cuts as Hal warned you about, they act as compression markers and force a GOP boundary) and placed it in a FCP timeline. Then added my chapter markers to the FCP timeline. Next, in a new vision track I added my mixed angle footage in the exact places where it is meant to come in and out, using the chapter markers.
Then I turned off the mixed angle footage and exported the mpeg of the entire V1 track using CBR 7Mbps closed GOP (Mpeg exporter is automatically closed GOP) and making sure that 'recognise chapters' box was ticked (can't remember exactly what its called). Once done I turned off V1 and turned on V2 then set my in and out points to the exact in and outs of each of my mixed angle tracks respectively, and exported these using the same settings.
When I dragged the mpegs into DVDSP and placed my V2 vision in I occassionally got a warning of GOP problems after a certain timecode, if this happened I only lost the last few frames of the clip which wasn't a problem in my project. Then tested and built and all was good - I then had to repeat the whole proccess again for an NTSC version which also worked.
So, there's my long winded way of solving the problem. Unfortunately if there's a better way I haven't found it and haven't read of an alternative on this forum of the Cow that has worked.
Good luck and let us know how you go.
    Cheers

  • Random Single Frame Jump On Burned DVD From Encore??

Problem with a single frame, split second jump on some DVDs output from Encore.  The jump is a single frame from a previous part of the timeline.  It is hardly noticeable, but annoying.  Plus, it doesn't happen with every disc because I retranscoded the same footage using both automatic and manually chosen presets.  Sometimes I get a perfectly fine disc.  It seems like this problem is random, hit or miss with the transcoding.  Has anyone had this?  Suggestions?  Thanks.

  • Configuration from Single Controller to Dual in SE 3510

    Hi,
I have one Sun StorEdge 3510 with single controller. I am not trying to configure the controller with dual controller card. As soon as I insert second controller card I am not able to see the LUN from Solaris 10. Please advice what all changes I require to do while configuring from Single Controller to dual controller.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Best Regards,
    Bikash

I dont think there is any difference in Callmanager software for a dual processor versus single processor server. For 7845 (dual processor) the hardware detection disks may be different from the one for single processor (7825, 7835)
Migrating from one to another is as easy as taking a BARS backup from one server, build the other server to the same version and restore it. (Make sure server name and ip are the same for both servers)

  • My PowerMac G5 will not read my Leopard disc, dual layer dvd, how do I force boot from UBS DVD drive to install?? Or is there another way. It just keeps spitting out the disc!!

I have a power mac G5. Ir originally had Tiger on it. When I reinstalled for some odd reason the disc decided to install Panther, no clue why!! Either way I got a hold of a Leopard disc for this computer. It is apple certified and bought from Amazon and works for this computer.
Hoever, for some odd reason it keeps spitting it out. Discs under 4.7 GB is reads fine but the bigger discs it wont seem to read. What I need is to know how to get, or force, it to boot from an extrenal dvd drive. Or any other methods to get it to install.

I do not believe you can "Upgrade" directly from the "Panther" installed on your computer to "Leopard".  You have to have at least "Tiger" installed already Before you can install Leopard.  Thus your Mac is not recognizing the Leopard Install disk.

  • Best compression setting 90min movie on Dual Layer DVD

Okay, I admit, I am a total n00b at this...so sorry if you have to break things down into the most basic terms...
I am trying to get the BEST quality I can for my adobe Encore project (for ease of calculation, 90min movie and added features).  I was previously getting "exceeds dvd capacity" error in Encore.
I have decided to recompress and see what I can do to make it all fit, but first I want to re-evaluate my whole process...
the ultimate issue comes down to three things (i think)...
    1. CBR v VBR??  what is better and why?
    2. What Data Bit Rate to compress at and why?
    3. Single layer DVD vs Dual Layer DVD?  Which is better and why?
to begin the discussion, I'll tell you what I "know" and what I think.
It seems DVD players can only handle a max bit rate of 8mbps so I don't want to go over that and using a Dual layer disc I risk that it may not work on older players....also, the dual layer costs twice as much to duplicate (this sucks but money is not an issue at this point, quality is more important).  From what I have read, constant Bit Rate @ 8mbps will give me the Best possible image... 8 is the max and so to encode at 8 the entire time should be the best..  will i have any issues with this?  This is not an amateur home movie but rather an indie feature film so I want to get the best possible viewable product out to people.  I will have blu-ray questions to come later (thats what we are going to send to festivals).
any help would be greatly appreciated
    thanks so much...
    chris

    Okay, thanks for everyone's thoughts.
    Question....
I totally understand not wanting to waste space on a dvd IF there was extra room.... HOWEVER, a movie at 90min with menus, etc. BARELY fits on a dvd at a 6.8mbps VBR compression rate....
therefore....why not just fork out the extra couple bucks and just compress the whole thing at 8.0mbps 2pass CBR, slap it on a dual layer and even though there will be parts of the movie that will be higher than necessary, and there will be leftover space on the dual layer dvd.... you will be guaranteed to have the highest quality right?  heavy motion areas and more static areas will all be encoded at 8 and thus, the best....
am i wrong in thinking this?
and after some extensive reading and research....Although is says a dvd player can handle 9.8mbps..... it doesnt' seem safe to encode that high because a lot of players can't handle it.... what is everyone else's thoughts?
    I found this:
    Data rate
DVD-Video discs have a raw bitrate of 11.08 Mbit/s, with a 1.0 Mbit/s overhead, leaving a payload bitrate of 10.08 Mbit/s. Of this, up to 3.36 Mbit/s can be used for subtitles and a maximum of 9.80 Mbit/s can be split amongst audio and video. In the case of multiple angles the data is stored interleaved, and so there's a bitrate penalty leading to a max bitrate of 8 Mbit/s per angle to compensate for additional seek time. This limit is not cumulative, so each additional angle can still have up to 8 Mbit/s of bitrate available.
Professionally encoded videos average a bitrate of 4-5 Mbit/s with a maximum of 7–8 Mbit/s in high-action scenes. This is typically done to allow greater compatibility amongst players, and to help prevent buffer underruns in the case of dirty or scratched discs.

  • Sense Error Message when trying to burn Dual-Layer DVDs?

    Hey all,
I am trying to burn a dual-layer DVD disc with the internal drive in my MacBook Pro.
I am getting the same error message from Toast each time I try to burn a disc. I get no response from Disk Utility (it just says "waiting for the disc drive") and Finder doesn't recognize the dual-layer disc when I try to burn in Finder.
I've heard that it may be a media issue, so I've tried with every single brand of DVDs that I can get my hands on. So far, I've tried Verbatim, Sony, and Memorex. I can't find any other brands of media, even at Best Buy?
I've heard that it may be a security update that might have caused this issue. System Profiler says that my machine can burn both DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL.
    What is going on?!??

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The two most common suggestions are (a) try other media, which you've done (and Verbatim normally work) and (b) run a DVD Lens Cleaner disc through it to see if some dirt or dust on the lens it causing the problem. If this doesn't fix it then it sounds like a hardware fault and best to let Apple check it out.
